<p>PM Albanese was responding to a question on whether PM Modi would still come to Sydney after Albanese cancelled the Quad meeting.</p>

<h2><strong>Why was Quad meeting cancelled?</strong></h2>

<p>Quad meeting was cancelled as US President Joe Biden postponed his visit to Australia because of crucial debt-ceiling talks back home that are going on to prevent a catastrophic federal default.</p>

<p>Albanese, Modi, Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida were to attend the Quad Leaders' Summit.</p>

<p>Albanese added that PM Modi will also have business meeting and will hold a public event at Homebush at the Olympic site in Sydney.</p>

<p>"He will also be engaging with Australian-India business relations. I look forward to welcoming him to Sydney," Albanese said.</p>

<p>But he indicated Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida would cancel his visit in the wake of Biden's announcement.</p>

<p>"Prime Minister Kishida was just coming for the Quad meeting. There wasn't a separate bilateral programme," Albanese said.<br />
Earlier in the day, Albanese said that Prime Minister Modi would certainly be a very welcome guest in Australia next week despite the cancellation of the Quad meeting.</p>

<p>The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad is a grouping of the US, India, Japan and Australia. It is a strategic security dialogue between the four nations.</p>

<p>The dialogue was initiated in 2007 by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with support from then Indian PM Manmohan Singh, former Austalian PM John Howard and former US vice president Dick Cheney.</p>

<p>The Quad does not have a formal military aspect till now but is widely seen to be as a grouping formed to counter China's rising influence in Indo-Pacific.</p>

<p>China has been making forays and trying to pull island nations in the Pacific into its own orbit. This part of the world is often perceived to be the backyard of Australia. Though there hasn't been a military incident, Chinese ships have been seen making forays into southern Indian and Pacific oceans.</p>

<p>China has openly decried formation of the Quad for more than a decade now. Quad countries on their part maintain that the grouping is not targetted against any particular country.</p>

<p>India's law enforcement agency Enforcement Directorate in April registered a case against BBC's India news broadcaster in connection to the foreign exchange violations allegations. The case was filed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in a release noted that BBC group entities' income and profits which were disclosed are "not commensurate" with respect to its operations' scale.&nbsp;"The survey operations also revealed that services of seconded employees have been utilised for which reimbursement has been made by the Indian entity to the foreign entity concerned," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Tax raids in Delhi, Mumbai BBC offices</strong></h2>

<p>India's Income Tax Department carried out tax surveys at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai in the month of February. The IT department had reportedly "gathered several evidence" which suggest that "tax has not been paid on certain remittances" which have not been disclosed as income in India by the foreign entities of the group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The BBC raids came after the UK broadcaster on 17 January released a documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots under the title ‘India: The Modi Question’. The release of the documentary drew sharp reaction from the Indian government who opposed it and ordered curbs on its release on various social media platforms.&nbsp;</p>

Biden and Albanese told the Indian PM that they were facing multiple requests from prominent citizens to attend events where the Indian PM would be speaking.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During Saturday's meeting, Biden came up to Modi and told him he had been facing a challenge with a deluge of requests from prominent citizens to attend his (Modi's) programmes during his visit to Washington DC next month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“You are causing me a real problem. Next month we have a dinner for you in Washington. Everyone in the whole country wants to come. I have run out of tickets. You think I am kidding? Ask my team. I am getting phone calls from people I have never heard of before. Everyone from movie actors to relatives. You are too popular,” Biden told Modi.</p>

<p>"You are demonstrating that democracies matter," Biden added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>I should take your autograph: Biden tells Modi</strong></h2>

<p>Echoing the US president's views, Australian Prime Minister Albanese said he too was finding it difficult to accommodate all the requests he had been getting for a community event in Sydney on Tuesday that Modi would be addressing. Albanese pointed out that the Sydney venue has a capacity of 20,000, and he was still unable to accommodate the requests he was getting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Australian prime minister also&nbsp;remembered how at the Narendra Modi stadium,&nbsp;more than 90,000 people welcomed him during the victory lap.&nbsp;To this, Biden told Modi in a lighter vein that he should take his autograph.<br />

In a statement after the meeting, the PNG PM said that his country is "ready to host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from May 21-22".</p>

<p>Modi will receive a red-carpet welcome with a 19-gun salute upon his arrival on May 21.</p>

<p>On May 22, he will meet Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae and hold talks with PM James Marape. After that, he will be participating in the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit.&nbsp;He will also meet with members of the Indian community during his visit.</p>

<p>During the visit, India and PNG are expected to sign multiple agreements and exchange proposals aimed at enhancing cooperation in various fields. The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Micro Small to Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will strengthen economic ties between the two countries. Reciprocal visa-on-arrival arrangements and visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders will ease travel restrictions and promote people-to-people contacts. The cultural exchange programs, MOUs between election commissions and broadcasters, and ICT cooperation agreements will further deepen bilateral relations.</p>

<p>"Cabinet has directed the Department of Foreign Affairs to liaise with relevant sectoral agencies and departments to ensure the above deliverables are ready on time to be announced during my meeting with Prime Minister Modi," PM Marape said.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the visit will coincide with US President Biden's presentation of the country and meeting with leaders of the Pacific. India has been proactive in building ties with countries in the region, and this visit is expected to further enhance India's engagement with the Pacific Island countries.</p>

<h2><strong>What is the controversy around <em>The Kerala Story</em>?</strong></h2>

<p>Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film's trailer came under fire for claiming that 32,000 women from Kerala had gone missing and joined the terrorist group, Islamic State. However, the makers later withdrew the contentious figure in the trailer.</p>

<p>The description of it was later changed to a story of three women from Kerala.</p>

<p>The plot of the<i> </i>film, which the makers claim is based on true events, centres around alleged religious indoctrination in the Indian state and how Hindu and Christian women are being targeted by radical Islamic clerics.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Petition filed against the release of film</strong></h2>

<p>Various groups in Kerala staged demonstrations and demanded a stay on the release of the film.</p>

<p>A division bench of the Kerala High Court, however, refused to put a ban&nbsp;and rejected a petition against its release.</p>

<p>After watching the trailer of the movie, the&nbsp;division bench of Justices N Nagaresh and Sophy Thomas said that it does not contain anything against Islam or Muslims as a whole and was about ISIS.</p>

<p>“What is against Islam? There is no allegation against the religion. The allegation is against ISIS,” the bench remarked.</p>

<p>“Going through the trailers of the movie, we find it does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole. None of the petitioners has watched the movie,” the Court noted in its order, said a Bar and Bench report.</p>

<p>"There are umpteen movies where Hindu sanyasis are depicted as smugglers or rapists. Nothing happens, and no one protests. Many such Hindi and Malayalam films are there," said Justice Nagaresh.</p>

<p>"As provided by guidelines, the board has considered and examined the movie. From the statement of the Deputy Solicitor General, the producers have published a disclaimer that the film is fictionalised and dramatised. We are not inclined to pass an interim order restraining exhibition of film," the court said.</p>

<p>The High Court asked petitioners how the movie, which it observed is fiction and not history, would create sectarianism and conflict in society, claiming that secular Kerala will accept the film for what it is.</p>

<p>"Nothing will happen just because the film is screened. The teaser of the film was released in November. What was offensive in the film? What is wrong in saying that Allah is the only God? The country gives the citizen the right to believe in their religion and God and spread it. What was offensive in the trailer?", the court observed.</p>

<h2><strong>Supreme Court agrees to hear plea against Kerala High Court order on <em>The Kerala Story</em>&nbsp;release</strong></h2>

<p>On Tuesday, the Supreme Court agreed to list on May 15 an appeal against the interim order of the Kerala High Court which refused to stay the release of the film.</p>

<h2><strong>Major political leaders react to the controversy</strong></h2>

<p><em>The&nbsp;Kerala Story</em>&nbsp;also triggered a massive political row with major political leaders reacting to the controversy.</p>

<p>The country's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda hailed the film by saying that it exposes a new, poisonous form of terrorism in which ammunition is not used.</p>

<p>"There's a new type of terrorism which is without ammunition, <em>The Kerala Story</em>&nbsp;exposes that poisonous terrorism. We have heard of terrorism that involves guns, weapons, and ammunition. But this is a dangerous kind of terrorism. This kind of terrorism isn't related to any state or religion," he said.</p>

<p>"The movie shows how youths are being influenced and made to follow wrong paths," the BJP chief added.</p>
