On the photo, several netizens wrote that they didn’t like the idea of a white guy being painted black to play a black character. One user wrote, “Da***… another white guy they made into a black guy. Why couldn’t they just leave him white or I dont know…pick a different minority? How about Asian or gasp! A Latino? (how many Latinos and Asians in MCU? Like total of 5??) Or make him an Indian or something… because they don’t and won’t, that makes them ‘woke.'”

The user continued, “Next time, a major character (hero/villain)will be a trans or homosexual or non-binary (when in comics they are not). Sad and pathetic. They’re picking based on race and what's PC and not on acting and what’s established.”

On the comment, James Gunn replied, “I chose the best actor, period, and the best person for the role. I don’t give a sh**&nbsp;what ethnicity @chukwudi_iwuji is, so stop with your racist presumptions on WHY he was chosen. (And, by the way, he’s playing a guy who’s almost always purple in the colour.)”

James Gunn has previously worked with Iwuji in Peacemaker, a HBO series.

Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks the final installment of the franchise and James Gunn’s final project at Marvel. He is now heading DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. The film hits theatres May 5.

Oh, he also spearheaded the negotiations to acquire 20th Century Fox. Under his leadership, the company became a behemoth. In 2019, the heydays, the studio released an incredible seven movies that surpassed the $1 billion dollar mark. This was domination on an unprecedented scale.

In comparison, it had taken more than a decade for Netflix to lose subscribers (in April last year), and not gain. The company had also lost a large chunk of revenue from parks and experiences.

Analysts say that was due to too much expansion done too quickly. In 2021, Disney+ released five TV shows set in the MCU. The following year, three. Oh, and four MCU movies also saw the light of day in 2021, and three in 2022. This bombardment of content was clearly not appreciated by the fans, many of whom, this scribe included, thought the world of entertainment was saturated too much by Marvel and less by... everything else.&nbsp;

Earlier, the interconnectedness of MCU movies used to be a fun thing. Now, it had become annoying whenever a character in a project referenced another movie or show in MCU. It was now artificial and tacky. And there's been little innovation, and almost none of the projects were worthwhile. Due to the abundance of content now, Kevin Feige, the overlord of MCU, could not have quality control over everything. And thus, MCU was suffering.

But now even Feige admits it's too much and plans to slow down a bit, at least with the shows. He told Entertainment Weekly, "I do think one of the powerful aspects of being at Marvel Studios is having these films and shows hit the zeitgeist. It is harder to hit the zeitgeist when there’s so much product out there — and so much “content,” as they say, which is a word that I hate. [Laughs] But we want Marvel Studios and the MCU projects to really stand out and stand above. So, people will see that as we get further into Phases 5 and 6. The pace at which we’re putting out the Disney+ shows will change so they can each get a chance to shine."

<h2>What's next for Disney and Iger?</h2>

Ever since he joined, Iger has been proactive in cutting down costs and overhauling strategies. He plans to achieve profitability in streaming by 2024. In terms of IPs, the MCU juggernaut will not stop until it is profitable for the company. And judging purely by the box office numbers, the movies in the cinematic universe remain moneymaking and this may be just a brief lull after the mega extravaganzas that were the last two Avengers movies. On the Star Wars front, several movies and TV shows are in&nbsp;development. With the Fox&nbsp;acquisition, Disney now owns James Cameron's Avatar franchise. The second film, which was released in December last year, has become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, so we can expect Cameron will get to make as many sequels as he wants. For now, the future of the company's film business looks solid. Though one fallout of the recent losses is that the company will rely on already-popular franchises. The company recently announced Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and Zootopia 2. With big studios already apprehensive about financing films based on original ideas, it looks like another blow to those who watch more than just tentpole films.

Shoppers weathered the strain put on their household budgets by higher costs of everything from food to rent and continued to spend big heading into the holidays, lured by steep discounts for everything from toys to electronic gadgets.

Products such as strollers, speakers and outdoor grills flew off the shelves, the report said, with more shoppers taking to placing orders through their smartphones. Mobile shopping drove 55% of online Thanksgiving sales.

Black Friday is expected to bring in $9 billion from online sales, a modest increase of 1% from last year, with shoppers now flocking to brick-and-mortar stores after a pandemic-led pause over the last two years.

He said, “Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is…you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times…but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.”

The director explained that now Captain America is the star and not Chris Evans. “I’m not even putting them down frankly, to tell you the truth. But that is one of the — the legacy of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood movies.”

Disney and Marvel's highly anticipated 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'&nbsp;had a huge opening this weekend, taking in an estimated $180 million in North American theaters, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday.

That domestic opening -- the 13th highest all-time, according to BoxOfficePro.com -- came as the film was raking in an impressive $330 million worldwide, a major boost for Hollywood after a lackluster October.

"This is a sensational opening," said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. "Reviews and audience scores are excellent -- Wakanda should dominate moviegoing... into December."&nbsp;

The film pays heartfelt tribute to the star of the original 'Black Panther,'&nbsp;Chadwick Boseman, who died from cancer in 2020 at age 43. He makes several flashback appearances as the fictional Wakanda fights against an underwater kingdom after the death of Boseman's character, King T'Challa.&nbsp;

Letitia Wright, as T'Challa's sister Shuri, and Angela Bassett, as Queen Ramonda, struggle to fill the king's shoes. Also starring are Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and Winston Duke.

Far, far behind in second place this weekend was Warner Bros.' 'Black Adam," at $8.6 million -- not even one-twentieth the 'Wakanda'&nbsp;total. The Dwayne Johnson vehicle, a spinoff from 2019's "Shazam!," has now taken in $141.1 million domestically.

Universal's rom-com 'Ticket to Paradise,'&nbsp;powered by mega-stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney, managed to defy the superhero trend to place third, taking in $6.1 million in its fourth week out.

A family-friendly film, Sony's live-action/computer animated musical comedy 'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,'&nbsp;placed fourth at $3.2 million.&nbsp;

And Paramount's horror movie 'Smile'&nbsp;continued to find viewers in its seventh week out, coming in fifth. With an estimated take of $2.3 million for the Friday-through-Sunday period, its domestic total bumped up to $102 million.

During Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy ceremony, Chadwick Boseman was honoured with a posthumous award for his role as Star-Lord T’Challa in Marvel’s 'What If…?' series. The late star won the Emmy in the outstanding character voice-over performance category.&nbsp;The award marks both Boseman’s first win and first nomination at the Emmys.

Other nominees of the category were Jessica Walter (Archer),&nbsp; F. Murray Abraham (Moon Knight), Julie Andrews (Bridgerton), Maya Rudolph (Big Mouth), Stanley Tucci (Central Park), and Jeffrey Wright (What If…?).&nbsp;

Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award on his behalf at downtown Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. While receiving the honour, she said, "When I learned that Chad was nominated for this award, I started thinking about everything that was going on when he was recording — everything that was going on in the world and in our world and just being in such awe of his commitment and his dedication."

Walt Disney Company on Wednesday released its third-quarter results which showed that its&nbsp;Disney+ streaming platform&nbsp;had added a whopping 14.4 million customers in the fiscal quarter, taking the total tally to 152.1 million.

Add the numbers from Hulu and ESPN+ and Disney appears to have overtaken&nbsp;Netflix, whose subscribers count stood at 220.7 million, as of July.&nbsp;

Disney CEO Bob Chapek in his&nbsp;presentation to investors stated, "We had an excellent quarter, with our world-class creative and business teams powering outstanding performance at our domestic theme parks, big increases in live-sports viewership, and significant subscriber growth at our streaming services."

The Disney boss further added, "With 14.4 million Disney+ subscribers added in the fiscal third quarter, we now have 221 million total subscriptions across our streaming offerings."

It is pertinent to note that during this quarter, Walt Disney took an ambitious gamble and launched the streaming platform in&nbsp;40 countries across Europe, Africa and Western Asia.

The numbers defy the analyst forecasts

The announcement beat several forecasts as it was predicted that Dinsey+ might lose out on paying customers due to losing out on the streaming rights of lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) to Viacom 18, earlier this year.&nbsp;

Disney+ goes by the name of Dinsey+ Hotstar in India and several other Asian markets and according to data released on Wednesday, the total number of subscribers from the region stood at 58.4 million, comfortably greater than the combined 44.5 million subscribers in US and Canada.&nbsp;

Moreover, Dinsey's revenue stood at&nbsp;$21.5 billion at the end of Q3, greater than most estimates which pegged the earnings to be around $20.68 billion.&nbsp;

Disney recently announced its slate of Marvel movies and TV series to be released in Phase 5. Additionally, shows such as&nbsp;The Mandalorian, Loki,&nbsp;Obi-Wan Kenobi, Moon Knight etc. have helped the platform to add new subscribers.&nbsp;

Speaking about bringing new storylines, Bob signed off by saying,&nbsp;“We continue to transform entertainment as we near our second century, with compelling new storytelling across our many platforms and unique immersive physical experiences that exceed guest expectations, all of which are reflected in our strong operating results this quarter.”

After Disney acquired 20th&nbsp;Century Fox in March 2019, properties like X-Men and Fantastic Four also came under the MCU umbrella. It is only a matter of time before characters like Wolverine (probably not Hugh Jackman’s as it’s a reboot) and Deadpool rub shoulders with Spider-Man and Captain Marvel and the Fantastic Four team up with the Avengers to take on Galactus — or something. We know a movie on mutants (better known as X-Men) is in development, but that is all we know. The Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali will make his MCU debut as half-human and half-vampire Eric Brooks, better known as Blade in an untitled upcoming movie being directed by Bassam Tariq. Technically, Ali already played the character, but only through his voice, in one of the post-credit scenes in ‘Eternals’. Feige should provide more details about the movie during the panel.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise will end with Vol 3, the third film in the series. The director has confirmed this. The film was supposed to come much earlier (in 2020) as Gunn had finished the script but then he was fired by Disney for his old Twitter jokes about paedophilia and rape. He went on to do a DC movie, ‘The Suicide Squad’, but was rehired. Now his conclusion to the current lineup Guardians comes out next year, so expect some promotional material to release during the panel.

Marvel's latest offering to the big screen 'Thor: Love and Thunder' has not had the perfect dream run at the box office as was expected. The film, directed by Taika Waititi, received mix reviews from critics and fans alike. But one thing that took everyone by surprise was actor Brett Goldstein's inclusion in the post-credit scene as Hercules.&nbsp; 
 
Fans were in for a surprise when in the first post-credit scene showed Goldstein as Marvel's Olympian god Hercules. The scenes had Hercules assuring his father, Zeus played by Russell Crowe that he would take revenge on&nbsp;Thor and Asgardians. The scene, naturally, led to fans speculating if the 'Ted Lasso' star would be seen in a Marvel film in the near future.&nbsp; 
 
The actor, speaking to ET, did not divulge many details of his future in MCU but mentioned how he had kept his casting a secret from everyone, including his family members. "I didn't tell anyone. I didn't tell my family. They put a chip in me that would explode if I f---ing spoke about it. It was terrifying." The actor is best known for playing Roy Kent on Apple TV's hit series. 
 
The actor though admitted that he was surprised to see such a positive response to his small cameo but remains mum on when and where Hercules may return in future MCU projects. Since the MCU is so dominant, it is easy to forget that these movies are riddled with errors, plot holes, and logical leaps. Here we list 6 of those. Make no mistake, I believe MCU is awesome. Such an intricately plotted and written cinematic universe with dozens of superheroes, supervillains, and several thousand supporting characters who inhabit a world that feels lived-in is in itself an achievement. But due to the scale, there are bound to be issues and inaccuracies.

Poor Spider-Man was left to fend for himself in 'No Way Home' and only Doctor Strange came to his rescue. Where were the others? &nbsp;When Strange had to face Wanda and the fate of the entire MULTIVERSE, not just one universe, was at stake, where were the others? Why were Eternals the only ones fighting the Deviants as the latter attacked global cities? Where were others to help them?&nbsp;

We know the real-world reason for this: the actors demand salary to act, and a standalone movie's budget cannot go beyond the mandated mark. So if team-ups were to happen in every single film, Marvel Studios would go bankrupt. But there must be an in-universe explanation for other heroes not coming to assist their friends in need. The problem is only going to be bigger as MCU also becomes bigger.

2. Why do characters without superpowers land on their knee and just walk it off?

Same for Steve Rogers or Captain America, who was fortified by a special serum and Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma waves that turned into the Green Goliath called Hulk. But what about Natasha Romanoff, better known as Black Widow? We have been looking at her landing casually in a way (see the image) that would shatter the knee caps of every flesh-and-blood human, no matter how well-developed their muscles are.&nbsp;

3. Superheroes feel like different people in different films

It is a huge challenge for Feige and others pulling the strings to keep MCU tonally balanced and events should matter and character should not feel different from movies to movies in the hands of different filmmakers. And they do not always succeed For instance, Thor in the movies preceding 'Thor: Ragnarok' did not have much in terms of sense of humour. In 'Thor', 'The Avengers', and 'Thor: Dark World' he was funny so far as his Asgardian ways felt funny to other characters. But in 'Ragnarok' he turned into a jokester, becoming almost like an alternate universe version of Thor. Yes, we loved the film, but tonally that Thor does not fit well with the superhero we knew from before.

Also, Odin told Thor in 'Ragnarok' that his power is innate and that he does not need any magical hammer (Mjolnir) to use his powers "Are you a god of hammers?," smirks Odin as he dies. And sure enough, Thor made quick work of warriors resurrected by Hela and even challenged Hela for a while. But in the next film, 'Avengers: Infinity War' he went on to forge another weapon for himself, the Stormbreaker? Why? Was Odin wrong? Thor cannot manifest his powers without Mjolnir? Or what we saw in 'Ragnarok' is not canon?

4. Depiction of marginalised communities in MCU

MCU has been dominated by white males for the most part. Each member of the OG Avengers was white, and only one was female. Sure enough, there has been a course correction. We now have female-centric movies, a movie on an African superhero, and a show on a South Asian Muslim superhero. While many decry this as political correctness, other are pointing out that the parent company of Marvel Studios, does not itself advance the cause of progressivism as its projects do. The media giant has been in hot water over its ambiguous approach to LGBTQ issues.

It had removed a gay kiss scene in the Pixar movie 'Lightyear' until there were protests and walkouts by employees. It has also removed black actors from the posters in China to satiate that country's alleged preference for white colours. For instance, it made the face of British actor John Boyega less prominent on the posters of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. Perhaps fans would take Disney more seriously if it practiced what it preaches.&nbsp;

5. Why always the United States, and why nearly always New York?

It appears all the extraterrestrial beings, monsters,&nbsp;warlords, and entities from another universe have a beef with the Big Apple. Whenever an alien power attacks earth, they mostly choose New York for some reason. And unfortunate residents of the US financial capital either have to die or flee their homes. More often than not the city is turned into a big pile of rubble, renewing the traumatic, deeply buried memories of those MCU fans who lived through 9/11.

Granted, this is not an issue for just MCU, but it does look like NYC, in movies at least, is the first and often the only target of everything hostile outside our solar system. And if it is New York, then it is somewhere in the US. The rest of the world, it appears, is invisible to alien eyes.&nbsp;

6. Thanos' insane plan

Now we come to the biggest logical leap MCU has ever taken and isn't that saying something. Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, was the Big Bad of the MCU until 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' which ended the so-called Infinity Saga. His ultimate plan was to acquire the Infinity Stones, the most powerful objects in the universe, and place them in his Infinity Gauntlet, which would then allow him to snap his fingers and do whatever he wish. He could shape reality in any way. But he chose to end half of all living beings in the universe? Why? Because he was on a Malthusian quest to reduce the load on the universe -- so that the rest half of the living beings will be prosperous.

But the more you think about it, the less that plan makes sense. And yes, the writers do want you to sympathise, at least a little, with Thanos. He is painted as a fairly reasonable character who does not kill indiscriminately. He is precise with his words. Now, what are those 'resources' the Mad Titan was talking about? Aren't plants and animals also resources for humans and other people inhabiting the universe? Won't they die as well? Also, suppose an aeroplane pilot is snapped out of existence, the rest of the travellers will die as well in that aircraft. What about them? Over the centuries, research has proven that it is not the population that is the problem, but resource distribution. Some have everything, and some have nothing. If only Thanos had solved the hunger problem, we would not be in this mess.&nbsp;

Each member of the OG Avengers was white, and only one was female. Sure enough, there has been a course correction. We now have female-centric movies, a movie on an African superhero, and a show on a South Asian Muslim superhero. While many decry this as political correctness, other are pointing out that the parent company of Marvel Studios, does not itself advance the cause of progressivism as its projects do. It appears all the extraterrestrial beings, monsters, warlords, and entities from another universe have a beef with the Big Apple. Whenever an alien power attacks earth, they mostly choose New York for some reason. And unfortunate residents of the US financial capital either have to die or flee their homes. More often than not the city is turned into a big pile of rubble, renewing the traumatic, deeply buried memories of those MCU fans who lived through 9/11. Granted, this is not an issue for just MCU, but it does look like NYC, in movies at least, is the first and often the only target of everything hostile outside our solar system. And if it is New York, then it is somewhere in the US. The rest of the world, it appears, is invisible to alien eyes. 6. Thanos' insane plan Now we come to the biggest logical leap MCU has ever taken and isn't that saying something. Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, was the Big Bad of the MCU until 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' which ended the so-called Infinity Saga. His ultimate plan was to acquire the Infinity Stones, the most powerful objects in the universe, and place them in his Infinity Gauntlet, which would then allow him to snap his fingers and do whatever he wish. He could shape reality in any way. But he chose to end half of all living beings in the universe? Why? Because he was on a Malthusian quest to reduce the load on the universe -- so that the rest half of the living beings will be prosperous. But the more you think about it, the less that plan makes sense. And yes, the writers do want you to sympathise, at least a little, with Thanos. He is painted as a fairly reasonable character who does not kill indiscriminately. He is precise with his words. Now, what are those 'resources' the Mad Titan was talking about? Aren't plants and animals also resources for humans and other people inhabiting the universe? Won't they die as well? Also, suppose an aeroplane pilot is snapped out of existence, the rest of the travellers will die as well in that aircraft. What about them? Over the centuries, research has proven that it is not the population that is the problem, but resource distribution. Some have everything, and some have nothing. If only Thanos had solved the hunger problem, we would not be in this mess.

But the stars of Marvel Cinematic Universe has not anywhere bright since then. We do not know how the new narrative is shaping up, and beyond a few vague hints, we do not know who will be the next Big Bad. But there are several upcoming MCU projects that should give more evidence so we can at least theorise. Even speculation is impossible without at least a little information.
