US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the NATO Force Model was not directly discussed during recent NATO talks, even as allies continue to focus on burden-sharing, troop readiness, and collective defence strategies. His remarks come amid ongoing debates within the alliance over military commitments, force deployment structures, and long-term security planning in Europe.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has declared that Cuba poses an ongoing national security threat to the United States and suggested that there are few chances of a peaceful agreement. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday (May 21) slammed NATO for not supporting the US military campaign against Iran, accusing several member nations of benefiting from the alliance while failing to back the United States during a major conflict. However, he expressed frustration that most countries stopped short of supporting US military action.“There are many countries in NATO that agree with us that Iran can't have a nuclear weapon, that Iran is a threat to the world,” Rubio told reporters.President Donald Trump “said, fine, I’m going to do something about it,” he said. “He’s not asking them to commit troops. Marco Rubio to visit India from May 23-26; Quad meeting, trade and defence talks on agenda

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparked buzz on social media after he was reportedly spotted wearing a Nike Tech tracksuit while travelling to China with Donald Trump. His outfit has evoked memories of ousted Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, who was photographed blindfolded in the same attire earlier this year after he was flown to America following his capture. In a post on social media platform X, White House communications director Steven Cheung wrote, “Secretary Rubio rocking the Nike Tech ‘Venezuela’ on Air Force One!” Eric Daugherty wrote on X, “LMFAO! Sec. Marco Rubio was just spotted wearing the Nicolas Maduro "Nike Tech" aboard Air Force One, en route to China with President Trump. Just like Maduro wore when 47 captured him. We love Marco”. The White House also shared the photos, writing, “Full circle moment”. The photo of Marco Rubio followed earlier images shared by President Donald Trump that showed Nicolás Maduro handcuffed and blindfolded in a grey Nike Tech tracksuit after a weekend raid in which the ousted Venezuelan leader and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by US forces and flown to the United States in early January. Reports and images circulating online showed Maduro wearing the grey tracksuit at the time of his detention. Shortly after the arrest, Trump shared a photograph of Maduro in the outfit, prompting social media speculation that the tracksuit had sold out following the viral attention. Posts also claimed Maduro wore size 3XL. Other accessories he was reportedly seen wearing, including a low-cost sleep mask and noise-cancelling ear protectors, also drew online attention. As the image spread widely across social media, reactions were divided, with some users joking that the outfit could become a popular Halloween costume, while others pointed to a spike in online searches for Nike Tech fleece apparel.

Marco Rubio sparked social media buzz by wearing a Nike Tech tracksuit on Air Force One, mimicking the attire worn by captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. While supporters praised the "full circle" moment, critics labelled the stunt unprofessional or a larping of Trump’s style.

Tensions in the Gulf region have escalated sharply after the United States launched fresh military strikes on Iranian targets following attacks on American destroyers near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks, while President Donald Trump warned of a “much harder” response if Tehran fails to agree to a peace deal.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio says the Iranian response on the 14-point proposal by U.S. is expected today.

Marco Rubio Gifts Crystal Football To Pope Leo XIV Amid Effort To Reset Ties

The US State Department reaffirmed its ‘strong relationship’ with the Vatican following talks between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pope Leo XIV on Thursday (May 7), despite recent tensions between the pontiff and President Donald Trump. “The conversations today were friendly and constructive,” a State Department official told AFP after Rubio’s private audience at the Vatican. Rubio’s visit followed Trump’s criticism of the first American pope, accusing Leo of being “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy” after the pontiff voiced concerns over the Middle East conflict. After the meeting, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said Pope Leo and Rubio discussed the Middle East and shared priorities in the Western Hemisphere, referring largely to Latin America. “The meeting underscored the strong relationship between the United States and the Holy See and their shared commitment to promoting peace and human dignity,” Pigott said. Rubio also met Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin to discuss religious freedom and other international concerns. The Vatican described the talks as “cordial,” saying discussions focused on global conflicts, humanitarian issues, and “as well as the need to work tirelessly for peace”. The Holy See added that both sides expressed a “shared commitment to cultivate good bilateral relations”. Marco Rubio says Israel-Lebanon peace is possible but hinges on Lebanon’s ability to confront Hezbollah and sustain a lasting ceasefire

Israel-Lebanon peace 'achievable', but not easy. What’s really blocking it? Rubio answers

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described recent US military actions involving Iran as defensive, as tensions continue around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.Speaking from the White House, Rubio said the US response has been measured amid ongoing maritime threats. “This is not an offensive operation. This is a defensive operation. What that means is very simple: There’s no shooting unless we’re shot at first,” Rubio said from the White House briefing room. “You’re not going to let some fast boat come up on the ship and shoot it up. We’re going to respond to it. And we’ve been successful,” Rubio added. Rubio outlined “Project Freedom,” an initiative designed to escort merchant ships safely through the Strait, calling it a crucial step toward restoring normal operations. “This is the first step towards reopening the strait and bringing this regime’s last-ditch, active economic arson, bringing that to a close,” he said. The briefing marked Rubio’s first at the podium, as press secretary Karoline Leavitt is currently on maternity leave. He also defended US sanctions and maritime enforcement, framing them as necessary to protect global trade and civilian lives. “Nations from around the world, the overwhelming majority of whom are not even engaged in any military hostilities, are now at risk, not just of losing their cargo, but the lives of their own citizens because of this blockade,” Rubio said. Rubio warned that ships stranded in the region are facing worsening humanitarian conditions. “These ships, you know, you don’t leave a ship out there for this long. You start running out of food. You start running out of potable water, essential supplies, and they’re at the mercy of this piracy,” he added. Also Read: Iran denies attack claims on UAE; Israel 'prepared to respond with force' amid rising tensions According to Rubio, multiple countries have urged the United States to step in and restore safe passage through the waterway. “So already, many nations, privately and some publicly, have asked the United States to help free their ships and to restore freedom of navigation in the straits of Hormuz and this critical artery of global trade,” he said. Reiterating the US stance, Rubio emphasized that control of the waterway should not fall under Iranian influence. “The Iranian regime cannot be allowed to dictate who uses this vital waterway,” he added. He further criticized Iran’s actions, warning against setting a dangerous precedent. “They’re trying to make this some new normal,” Rubio said at the White House. “Under no circumstances can we ever allow them to normalize the fact that they get to blow up commercial ships and put mines in the water.” “Our preference is for these straits to be opened to the way they’re supposed to be opened, back to the way it was,” Rubio said. https://www.wionews.com/videos/tvk-s-seenivasa-sethupathy-r-defeats-dmk-s-k-r-periyakaruppan-by-1-vote-1777997272944/embed Rubio also raised concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, warning of broader global risks. “They would do exactly to the world with a nuclear weapon what they’re doing now with the [Strait of Hormuz],” Rubio told reporters Tuesday. He added that Donald Trump sees the situation as a major global threat. “They would hold the world hostage… someone has to do something about it.” Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, the US, Gulf nations, and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. America Abandons Regime Change in Iran

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Strait of Hormuz could act as an “economic nuclear weapon” in Iran’s hands, stressing that any regime change should come from within. It is pertinent to note that his remarks stand in contrast to those of US President Donald Trump, who has suggested that a shift in Iran’s leadership has already taken place as the conflict enters its second month.

Trump will discuss a possible NATO exit with Rutte after the Iran ceasefire, accusing allies of abandoning US interests and deepening alliance tensions

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said there is potential for a direct meeting between the United States and Iran at some point, even as indirect communications continue during the ongoing conflict. His remarks come amid escalating tensions in the US-Iran war and growing diplomatic efforts to explore possible negotiations alongside military developments across the region.

US-Iran War | Rubio: Potential for Direct Meeting with Iran at Some Point

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday (Mar 30) raised questions about the new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei yet again and also contradicted US President Donald Trump's ‘regime change’ remark. Highlighting that US demands in the peace plan, he said that it is identical to what the Trump administration demanded before the war. He also said that Iran’s demand for sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable, while claiming that “it’s not quite clear how decisions are being made inside of Iran.” In an interview with Al Jazeera, Rubio said, “No one has seen him [Mojtaba Khamenei]. No one has heard from him. It’s very opaque right now. It’s not quite clear how decisions are being made inside of Iran.” He added, “From the very beginning, had nothing to do with the leadership.” The Secretary of State also said that there are “messages and some direct talks going on between some inside of Iran and the United States, primarily through intermediaries, but there’s been some conversation.” Rubio outlined, “The Iranian regime can never have nuclear weapons, and they need to stop sponsoring terrorism, and they need to stop building weapons that can threaten their neighbours.” ”Tehran must take demonstrable steps towards ending any ambition of having nuclear weapons,” he added. Also Read: ‘Iran has undergone regime change’: Trump's BIG statement after a month of war
Contradictions about Iran war
Trump administration has seemingly changed its stance a number of times regarding the Iran war. Firstly, Rubio claimed that the US pre-emptively attacked Iran after knowing Israel's plans. But, contradicting his claims, Trump said that America might have dragged Israel to the war. Then, there were conflicting statements regarding the regime change. While it was initially stated that America wants a regime change, later, after the killing of Khamenei, Rubio said that objective was not to change the leadership. Also Read: Iran allows India, 4 other nations to use Strait of Hormuz amid energy crisis
What Trump said about Mojtaba and regime change?
Trump on Sunday (Mar 29) spoke to press abroad Air Force One and said that Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is severely wounded as he is no where to be seen. “Nobody's heard about him. He may be alive, but he's obviously in trouble. He's seriously wounded.” He also claimed about a regime change that he claimed has already taken place in Iran and ruled out need for a ground offensive. On Mar 14, Trump had said that he doesn't know if Mojtaba is “even alive.” "I’m hearing he’s not alive, and if he is, he should do something very smart for his country, and that’s surrender.” However, within minutes the US president described reports of his death as “a rumour.” On regime change, Trump said, “The one regime was decimated, destroyed, they're all dead. The next regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we're dealing with different people than anybody's dealt with before. It's a whole different group of people. So I would consider that regime change.”
What Iran said?
Iran has repeatedly said that its new Supreme Leader is fine. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Mar 14 said that there was "no problem" with the Islamic Republic's new Supreme Leader, silencing all buzz around his whereabouts. "There is no problem with the new supreme leader. He sent his message yesterday, and he will perform his duties," Araghchi told MSNBC. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised doubts about Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, calling decision-making opaque. The US demands Iran halt nuclear ambitions, stop terrorism, and rejects sovereignty claims over the Strait of Hormuz.

So I would consider that regime change.” What Iran said? Iran has repeatedly said that its new Supreme Leader is fine. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Mar 14 said that there was "no problem" with the Islamic Republic's new Supreme Leader, silencing all buzz around his whereabouts. "There is no problem with the new supreme leader. He sent his message yesterday, and he will perform his duties," Araghchi told MSNBC. The poll is a bellwether – albeit, not necessarily an accurate one – for who might ultimately become the Republican nominee for the next presidential race.
