MAMI Select has expanded its reach in this edition, opening a nationwide call for applications to discover four emerging filmmakers from diverse Indian regions. This initiative will showcase the richness of regional cinema through four short films, each between 20 and 40 minutes long and presented in four languages: Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, and Tamil.&nbsp;
The final selection of four filmmakers will be mentored by an illustrious panel, including multiple National Award-winning actor and director Konkona Sen Sharma, highly acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery, eminent director and producer Vikramaditya Motwane and renowned Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran. These mentors will guide these filmmakers from pre-production to post-production, and help push the boundaries of storytelling using cutting-edge technology.

As India continues to deal with the coronavirus outbreak, The Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) organisers behind India’s biggest international film festival have postponed the 22nd edition to 2021.&nbsp;

This decision has come about in the light of "devastating pain and suffering across the country and uncertainty over the reopening of cinemas in Mumbai."&nbsp;

“It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to postpone the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2020 to next year," said Isha Ambani, a member of MAMI's Board of Trustees in a statement. "It is our responsibility to do everything we can to keep our communities safe during this crisis. We are humbled and grateful for the special place that the festival has carved for itself in Mumbai’s cultural landscape. We promise that the festival will come back with fullness in spirit and enthusiasm for our beloved city of Mumbai.”&nbsp;

“The world is grappling with a global calamity. 2020 is about survival, introspection and humility. We have decided to prioritise healing this year and hold the festival in its full splendour next year," said festival director Anupama Chopra.&nbsp;

The dates for 2021 will be announced soon.&nbsp;

"We are so honoured to join festivals around the world to launch We Are One: A Global Film Festival in support of helping those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Filmmaker Shazia Iqbal's 'Bebaak'&nbsp;and Atul Mongia's 'Awake', which were dropped by the 20th edition of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, saw a huge gathering for their first ever public screening Tuesday night. 
 
In the wake of the allegations of inaction by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane in the sexual harassment case involving their former partner Vikas Bahl, MAMI dropped 'Bebaak'&nbsp;and 'Awake', independently produced by Kashyap and Motwane respectively.&nbsp;

The short films were screened together for three consecutive packed shows, attended by film enthusiasts and industry friends, including Kashyap and Motwane. 
 
"It's very satisfying. It's a film that I had loved at the script stage itself. I wanted to produce the film at the script level itself before even my wife was cast. The journey has taken its own time," Motwane said at the screening.&nbsp; 
 
The 'Lootera'&nbsp;director, who was amazed&nbsp;by the turnout, said he wasn't expecting the films to be dropped from the festival.&nbsp; 
 
"We both had told Atul and Shazia that if need be, we would drop our names. Of course, we don't endorse it but when you have to do it, you have to do it. But when they got dropped... I don't know... It's disappointing not for me but for the cast and the crew, which put in so much hard work," he added.&nbsp; 
 
'Bebaak'&nbsp;director Shazia in an open letter had questioned MAMI's decision to drop the films and had called it a "knee-jerk" reaction as the film was independently backed by Kashyap and not Phantom Films, which now stands dissolved.&nbsp; 
 
"I just wanted the film to be seen by people and it's overwhelming to see such a huge turnout. I was not expecting it," Shazia said.&nbsp; 
 
The filmmaker added that though the anger hasn't settled, she doesn't regret whatever transpired.&nbsp; 
 
"I don't want to say that I am still pissed about it but I don't regret it. It's fine. Whatever had to happen, happened. It's in the past. I wanted people to see the film and that has happened. To physically get people to watch the film, that effort has paid off," she said

"I read an article about Dr Suniti and I turned around to Ann and said, 'Don't you think it'll make a great movie?' She had spent time in India studying and travelling and I'm an Indian American who grew up in California and spent all my summers in Bangalore.&nbsp; 
 
"We both had an understanding of this place. We thought let's go to India and connect with the doctor. The worst thing that can happen is we will get a fun trip out of it, the best thing is we can find a great story," Priya said after the premiere.&nbsp; 
 
The duo began filming in 2008 and finished the film in 2013, a post which it took them nearly four years to edit nearly 250 hours of footage. 
 
"We travelled to all over India to find such couples. We went to Gujarat, rural parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We talked to a dozen of HIV+ people and we found some stories which were part of the earlier cut," the duo said. 
 
The film shows Dr. Solomon and two of her patients? Manu and Karthik ? as they fight secrecy and stigma while searching for love. 
 
"But in our edit when we took advice from people we realised the story was about Dr Suniti, Karthik and Manu. But we spent a lot of time traveling and trying to find these stories," Ann said.&nbsp;

'Lovesick' a documentary on HIV+ features in MAMI

Lauding several women for having the courage to share their sexual harassment stories, filmmaker Shonali Bose says the #MeToo movement should not be reduced to male bashing.&nbsp; 
 
"This movement should at no point become male bashing. It is not about men and women, it is about the patriarchy embedded in our society. I was in a prominent college in Delhi, I was sexually harassed in auditorium and went up to the stage and said we were shutting down the festival as many faced it,'' Shonali said. 
 
"The principal said I was going to be expelled from the college. It is about the ideology, like women being shamed as to how you project yourself, what you wear... It is not coming from men alone but women as well," Shonali said on Friday at #MeToo panel discussion at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film festival here.&nbsp; 
 
Shonali said the incident only made her realise, how women are judged for what they wear and how they appear.&nbsp; 
 
The 53-year-old director believes cinema is the best way where one can break boundaries and smash stereotypes. 
 
Actor Renuka Shahane, who was also a part of the session, said she has worked with people whom she had admired.&nbsp; 
 
"Most people can't separate art from the person. When I was a newbie I had to be alert always or build walls. I feel anybody who goes to a work situation there has to be mutual respect. When you are not shooting, you can't be judged and pounced on, '' said Renuka. 
 
&nbsp;She further said,''I have experienced all of that in the film industry. We just try to sweep that under the carpet. This whole 'adjust' thing is like big conspiracy of silence." 
 
For Renuka, the whole movement is about creating a safe environment for women and be respected in the workplace. 
 
"It is unfortunate that these things happen. I have seen both the sides. Like there are women who are entering the industry with the thought that they are willing to do anything to get in here,'' said the actress. 
 
"The fact that there are women who don't want to do anything, they should be allowed to work in an environment that satisfies them as an actor," said the actor. 
 
She gave the example of 'intimacy coordinators' being hired in Hollywood to ensure standards and prevent abuse during all sexual scenes on sets and said the same should be there in India as well. 
 
The actress said, "My husband (Ashutosh Rana) has done a lot of that in the film industry and he has always been careful and sensitive in such scenes. It is a tricky scene to perform as you have to be in the scene and make sure your female co-star is not suffering from any kind of harassment. Good actors have managed to do it in an aesthetic way." 
 
She said due to the movement there might be a discussion on the sets regarding the details of the scenes where nudity, intimacy is concerned.&nbsp; 
 
"Everybody has the right to work in a comfortable situation," said the actress.

The 20th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Festival has added southern star Rana Daggubati and filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar to its board of trustees. 
 
Their induction comes days after filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who has been accused of shielding director Vikas Bahl in an alleged sexual harassment case, stepped down as the board member. 
 
Rana said his aim will be to bridge the gap between the national and regional language cinema. He said, "Be it Malayalam cinema, Telugu cinema or Tamil cinema, some of the best independent films are made in these languages and it will be my focus to make such work be noticed on a national platform." 
 
Nambiar will curate the best of South Indian Cinema for the MAMI Year-Round Programme.

This year the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will be commemorating the life and incredible career of actor Sridevi, who died in February this year. 
 
The festival will honour her with the MAMI Tribute for her exceptional contribution to Indian cinema. 
 
The festival will also be honouring the renowned legacy and work of iconic Swedish auteur Ingmar Bergman. 
 
The Excellence In Cinema Award will be bestowed to filmmaker Shyam Bengal for his contribution to Indian cinema. 
 
The opening film of this year's edition will be Vasan Bala's "Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota", which bagged People's Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section at Toronto International Film Festival. 
 
The film chronicles the story of a young man born without pain receptors who longs to defeat 100 opponents in a kumite tournament. 
 
Oscar-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen's latest feature 'Widows', will bring the curtains down on the festival.&nbsp; 
 
The Dimensions Mumbai jury will be headed by Rajkumar Hirani. The members include Nambiar, Renuka Shahane, Parvathy.

Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamaba- the founders of AIB, stepped down from their posts on Monday after allegations surfaced accusing Bhat of hiring a serial sexual offender like Utsav Chakraborty.

Khamba was accused by a woman of sexual misconduct which the comedian has denied.

Rajat Kapoor was also accused of the same by three women in three varied incidents.&nbsp;

In order to support the ongoing #MeToo movement, the two movies-'Chintu ka Birthday ' by AIB and 'Kadak' by Rajat Kapoor, have been banned from film festival by MAMI.

After journalist Sandhya Menon posted screenshots of the conversations with women accusing Kapoor of misconduct, the filmmaker-actor issued an apology on Twitter saying,''All my life I have tried to be a decent man, to do the right thing. If however, I have slipped and through my actions or words caused pain or hurt or trauma to absolutely anybody, please accept my apology."
