<p>"Cuba has been an advocate of fairer global governance. And to this day,&nbsp;it is the victim of an illegal economic embargo," Lula said in a speech opening the G77 Summit of developing nations in the capital, Havana.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Brazil is against any unilateral coercive measure. We reject Cuba's inclusion in the list of states sponsoring terrorism," he added.</p>

<p>Former US President Donald Trump had put Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Biden administration has reversed most of the sanctions put on Cuba by the Trump regime but has not removed Cuba from the notorious list.</p>

<p>Now, Lula has vowed to restore Brazil’s traditional policy and to vote in favour of the UNGA proposal urging to remove all sanctions from the communist-ruled country.</p>

<p>Brazil and Cuba have a long-standing history of cultural ties, with Brazilian soap operas and vibrant musical traditions being widely embraced in Cuba. Additionally, Lula shares a well-documented friendship with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.</p>

<p>During Lula's presidency, which spanned from 2003 to 2016, the ties between Brazil and Cuba strengthened significantly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Wednesday (September 13), the first four accused went on trial before the Supreme Court in the capital city of Brasilia. The SC building was ransacked on January 8 by&nbsp;thousands of Bolsonaro supporters who allegedly attempted to overturn the election -&nbsp;drawing&nbsp;eerie similarities to the January 6 insurrection attempt by former US president Donald Trump&nbsp;supporters in 2021 at the US Capitol Hill.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Judge Alexandre de Moraes presiding over the case in his opening remarks said the&nbsp;insurrectionists had rampaged through the heart of Brazilian democracy, “showing utter contempt for the republic and imbued with the audacity of ignorance”.</p>

<p>“But let me be clear: they did not destroy the spirit of democracy. The enemies of freedom should know that, in the hallowed ground of this court, the permanently cultivated democratic system remains unshaken," added the judge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In his opening remarks at a business forum ahead of the BRICS summit being held in South Africa’s Johannesburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the bloc was on the course to meet the aspirations of most of the world community.</p>

<p>In a virtual address delivered on Tuesday (August 22), Putin told the forum, “We cooperate on the principles of equality, partnership support, respect for each other’s interests, and this is the essence of the future-oriented strategic course of our association, a course that meets the aspirations of the main part of the world community, the so-called global majority."</p>

<p>It must be noted that Putin is not attending the summit in-person as he is sought by the West-backed International Criminal Court (ICC) over allegations that he deported Ukrainian children.</p>

<p>Justice Alexandre de Moraes accepted the request from the&nbsp;Attorney General's Office to include Bolsonaro who has been strongly linked to orchestrating the events in the capital city of Brasilia last Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The prosecutor's office presented a video posted by Bolsonaro on Facebook, two days after the riot where it was claimed that&nbsp;Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva wasn't voted to power, albeit he was chosen by the Supreme Court and Brazil's top electoral body.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After analysing the video, Judge de Moraes directed Meta, the parent company of Facebook to preserve the video, and its metadata to better access the authorship.</p>

<p>The court also directed that the&nbsp;information about the video's reach (number of views, number of shares and number of comments) should be shared before being deleted.</p>

<p>The apex court added that&nbsp;since Bolsonaro was not in Brazilian territory, the request to interrogate the far-right leader will be considered later.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Faced with the news that the former president is not in Brazilian territory, the request for the interrogation of the person represented, Jair Bolsonaro, will be considered later, in due time."</p>
