<p>He claimed that continuous pressure and harassment from his community in Agra led him to commit the murder. He further alleged that his father, Badar, assisted him in the heinous act.&nbsp;</p>

Addressing art infrastructure gap The festival emerged as a response to India's limited platforms for its more than 200,000 artists. Its innovative dual-pattern exhibition model, launched in Mumbai, creates space for both galleries and independent artists, making art presentations accessible, easier, and communicable, both for creators and art collectors. Art themes The 2024 lineup maintained various styles and themes, such as landscapes as seen in the works of Bela Kumari, Rahul Naskar, and Varun Singh; abstract art pieces by Alka Pandey, Anindita Kishore, and Cheena Madan; human relationships explored by Amita Singhal, Anjali Prabhakar, and Jasmine Rizvi. Besides, a variety of spiritual art themes are portrayed by Abhishek Aacharya, Pratima Abhange, and Arshhia Chawla. There were paintings that followed the theme of realism, like the ones featured by Shyam Verma, Pankan Bawdekar, Om Thadkar, and others. The gallery also had sculptures by artists like Akshay Jadhav and Debjyoti Purakayastha. What stood out? Exploring various themes, realist paintings seemed a world apart from the rest. They had an old-school touch, simple yet powerful, as seen in Shyam Verma’s paintings. All his paintings depicted happiness where even the most ordinary person looked powerful, central to the art and their gaze held a certain intensity. On being asked, what is the central idea of his paintings, he said, “Not everything needs to show sadness. Painting is an expression, and one must always find positivity towards things.” He added, “When this piece (pointing out to one of his paintings) hangs in someone’s living room, it should create a positive environment”. As an amateur art admirer, I noticed the subjects in all his paintings had a bold look in their eyes. Talking about their gaze, he revealed, “The eyes alone capture the most expressions.” He said even if something may not be seen on a person’s face, it is in their eyes. So, eyes are a very important feature of any painting, especially if it is realist. Shree Shyam Verma from Lucknow is a self-taught painter who loves working on portraits. He wishes to revive the culture and heritage of the city through his paintings. Verma has painted exclusive portraits of the late Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his mother, and the King of Dubai, amongst many other known personalities. Participating galleries The festival featured two distinct sections: Gallery Section: This section featured prominent galleries from across India, such as: Delhi and NCR: Gallery Pioneer, OPS Art Gallery, Eminent Art Gallery, Stage Aura Planet Shree Yash Gallery. ‘It is in their eyes’: Realist painter Shyam Verma’s paintings speak volumes through their gaze

These kids recreated a bridal campaign inspired by the iconic designs of renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>'Digital arrest' case: What happened?</strong></h2>

<p>Dr Ruchika Tandon, an associate professor at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), was defrauded in a sophisticated scam involving individuals impersonating officials from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).</p>

<p>According to Dr Tandon, the ordeal began when she received a call from a man claiming to be a TRAI officer. The caller informed her that her mobile number was at risk of being deactivated due to 22 complaints alleging that she had sent harassing messages to various people.</p>

<p>The situation escalated when the caller informed Dr Tandon that a complaint had been filed against her and that she would soon receive a link to connect with a CBI officer to discuss the matter. Believing the caller, Dr Tandon followed the instructions and connected through the provided link, where she spoke with a man identifying himself as Rahul Gupta, a fake CBI officer.</p>

<p>Gupta then delivered alarming news, claiming that Dr Tandon's name had surfaced in a money laundering case and in a separate investigation involving the trafficking of women and children. He warned her that she faced imminent arrest.</p>

<p>In a further twist, the fraudsters offered a supposed way to avoid arrest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They proposed that Dr Tandon be placed under "digital arrest" through a video call, during which she would be instructed not to contact anyone. They assured her that her accounts would be examined during this period and that she would be released afterwards.</p>

<p>Under the pretence of this "digital arrest," the scammers managed to extract sensitive information about five of Dr Tandon's bank accounts. Exploiting this information, they transferred approximately ₹2.81 crore from her accounts to theirs.</p>

<p>Heavy rains&nbsp;in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday led to severe waterlogging on the streets, and soon water entered homes and buildings. After the downpour, water also entered the Legislative Assembly complex in&nbsp;Lucknow, from where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had to be escorted through a different route.</p>

<p>A viral video on social media shows the waterlogged UP assembly complex on Wednesday from where CM Yogi was evacuated from an alternative gate. In the video, workers can also be seen collecting water inside the building in&nbsp;buckets and throwing it outside.</p>

<p>Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has called for more budget allocation for the UP Assembly, emphasising that if such heavy rains can affect the government buildings this much, then other areas&nbsp;might also be vulnerable to similar incidents.</p>

<p>"The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly needs the budget the most. If this is the condition after a torrential rain, then the rest of the state is at the mercy of God," Yadav wrote in a post on X, along with the video.</p>

CM Yogi escorted out of UP assembly as complex in Lucknow gets waterlogged after heavy rain

<p>A youth in Lucknow died on saturday (June 22), as a consequence of a bet on a tractor stunt. The police claim that 22-year-old Neeraj Maurya, who passed away, wagered Rs 15,000 with a Himmatnagar Atria man named Joginder Yadav.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As part of the bet, Maurya and Yadav had to drive their tractor in the opposite direction. The video shows one of the tractors standing straight before colliding with the driver, resulting in his death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both the youngsters hailed from the same village. Local bystanders were present at the incident when the bet took place. The incident happened near the Himmatnagar Atria area of Itaunja police station.</p>

Tragic bet turns deadly: Lucknow youth killed in viral tractor stunt challenge

<p>A hospital in Uttar Pradesh's (UP) Lucknow hosted weddings in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a patient's two daughters, according to media reports on Sunday (June 16). Lucknow resident Mohammed Iqbal, 51, was admitted to the Era Medical College and Hospital just days before his daughters'&nbsp;wedding.</p>

<p>A report by India Today said that Iqbal was admitted to the ICU&nbsp;and with support from doctors from the hospital, his daughters' Nikah was conducted within the ICU premises. Iqbal was hospitalised with a severe chest infection and the 51-year-old was advised against discharge to attend the weddings this month.</p>

<p>Indian defence ministry on Saturday (May 18) described as "completely misleading" some reports in a section of <a href="https://www.abplive.com/states/up-uk/lucknow-drdo-model-helicopter-stolen-questions-raised-on-the-municipal-corporation-ann-2692267">media </a>claiming that&nbsp;a&nbsp;dummy model of the Chinook helicopter prepared by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had been stolen.</p>

<p>Earlier reports said that the model was made to&nbsp;display&nbsp;it at the 2020 Defence Expo but later it went missing.</p>

<p>Indian defence ministry said no such replica was installed at the defence expo by the DRDO and the news articles claiming otherwise are misleading.</p>

<p>"News circulating about a&nbsp;DRDO-installed Chinook Helicopter Model &nbsp;at Lucknow during DefExpo 2020 missing, is misleading. Chinook is made by Boeing and&nbsp;DRDO has never installed any Helicopter Model at Lucknow anytime," the defence ministry said in a statement on X.</p>

Later, Lucknow Municipal Corporation claimed&nbsp;the replica had been sent&nbsp;for repairs to their "Rubbish and Removable" workshop in Gomti Nagar.</p>

<p>Local reports have mentioned that the incident on April 7 took place when the victim was on the way to catch a train to Bengaluru, where she had a private job. She had reached Lucknow on April 3.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The accused Vivek Maurya, 28, of Barabanki has been arrested. He was staying at Mahanagar and was friends with the victim," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (Vibhuti Khand) Anindya Vikram Singh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To get help, the man contacted the emergency control room. The girl was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She was declared dead after doctors conducted an ECG. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination.&nbsp;</p>

These students are also increasing their caffeine intake through tea or coffee. This unhealthy lifestyle is negatively impacting their health, raising questions about the legality of these drugs.</p>

<p>In the recent case, the girl, identified as Prajakta, collapsed one evening after studying all night. While studying, her mother was providing her with coffee to stay awake. Following her collapse, she was hospitalised and diagnosed with a brain clot. It was then that her parents discovered a bottle of anti-sleep pills in her drawer, which she had been taking.</p>

<h2><strong>The danger of these pills</strong></h2>

<p>In a conversation with the news agency, Dr Sharad Srivastava, a neurosurgeon, highlighted the dangerous trend of students using these pills to stay awake during exams. These drugs, sold over the counter under names like 'chuniya' and 'meethi,' are being smuggled from "countries like Bangkok", he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Shocking though it may sound, an increasing number of students today, are taking these anti-sleep pills that help them stay awake during examinations."</p>

<p>"These drugs can have dangerous side effects, especially if taken with an overdose of caffeine — too many cups of coffee — as it happened in Prajakta's case," said Dr Srivastava.</p>

<p>These pills are variants of Modafinil, sold as Provigil, known to improve memory, mood, alertness, and cognitive abilities, said another medical practitioner speaking under the condition of anonymity. It is primarily used to treat disorders like narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These allow users to stay awake for "40 hours or more at a stretch", with a smoother effect than amphetamines. However, once the drug wears off, users must catch up on sleep to mitigate its adverse effects.</p>

<p>A psychiatrist, Dr R K Saxena, told the news agency that the pressure on students to achieve high percentages is leading them to use these pills.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The children are berated if they get even half a per cent less than their friends. The pressure to score 98 and 99 per cent in board examinations is slowly killing them. Parents should accept the fact that such high percentages can be unrealistic and not every child can score these marks," said Dr Saxena.</p>

<p>Prajakta's parents have reportedly acknowledged that they did not realise the extent of pressure their daughter was under.</p>
