Bollywood actor Govinda on Thursday (March 28) joined&nbsp;Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and called it a blessing of God.

"I was not going to enter politics again but here I' am," the actor said after joining the Shiv Sena party.

"The clean aura of Shiv Sena&nbsp;inspired me. I have always said that PM Modi is a very hard working person. We have seen the same level of progress here in Maharashtra&nbsp;in the last 2 years, as we have seen in the country in the last 10 years. We will focus on the beautification of the state and the growth of art and culture," further added the veteran actor.

Govinda is most likely to be fielded from Mumbai North West as he makes a comeback to politics after a long haitus.

Earlier in 2004, Govinda&nbsp;contested from Mumbai North Lok Sabha on a Congress ticket and defeated the senior BJP leader Ram Naik.

Later, he resigned from the party and took a break from politics.

However, Govinda later parted ways with the Congress party and politics, deciding not to contest elections in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

<h2>Pranam Pilibhit: Varun Gandhi's heartfelt letter</h2>

Varun Gandhi posted the letter on the social media platform X with the caption 'Pranam Pilibhit' or salutations, Pilibhit.

He wrote, “As I write this letter today, countless memories fill me with emotions. I remember the three-year-old boy who came to Pilibhit for the first time in 1983, holding his mother's hand. Who knew that one day this land would become his workplace, and the people here would become his family?"

"The ideals, simplicity, and kindness that I received from Pilibhit have contributed greatly to my upbringing and development, not only as an MP but also as a person. Being your representative has been the greatest honor of my life, and I have always backed your interests to the best of my ability," wrote Gandhi, who won the seat in 2009 and 2019 as a BJP candidate.

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday (March 27), issued show cause notices to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their remarks directed at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and BJP's Lok Sabha candidate Kangana Ranaut, respectively.

The Election Commission deemed Ghosh's comments against CM Mamata Banerjee and Shrinate's remarks against Kangana Ranaut as 'undignified and in bad taste'. They have been instructed to respond to the commission by Friday, (March 29)&nbsp;5 pm.

In both notices, the EC stated that the comments made by the leaders are prima facie violative of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to clause (2) of Part I 'General Conduct' of the Model Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates, criticism of other political parties should be limited to their policies, programs, record, and work.

Parties and candidates are urged to refrain from criticising aspects of private life not connected with the public activities of other party leaders or workers. Criticism based on unverified allegations or distortion of facts should also be avoided.

Supriya Shrinate vs Kangana Ranaut:

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate stirred controversy when an objectionable post appeared on her Instagram handle, demeaning Kangana Ranaut, BJP's candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency.

The post, now deleted, queried the current market rate alongside a picture of Ranaut.

Shrinate later clarified that 'many people' have access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts, disassociating herself from the 'extremely inappropriate' post.

The BJP criticised the Congress for such comments, accusing Shrinate of intending to tarnish Ranaut's character. They asserted that the Congress's derogatory remarks reflect a lack of respect for the law.

Ranaut responded by emphasising every woman's right to dignity, highlighting her diverse roles as an actress.

The BJP filed a complaint with the state's chief electoral officer, seeking legal action against Shrinate for misusing social media to denigrate their Lok Sabha candidate. They deemed Shrinate's remarks derogatory and sexually oriented, violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Dilip Ghosh vs Mamata Banerjee:

Meanwhile, BJP MP from Medinipur, Dilip Ghosh, triggered controversy with objectionable comments against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Ghosh, BJP's vice-president fielded from the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, mocked TMC's slogan of "Bangla Nijer Meye ke chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)".

His remarks drew criticism, with TMC filing a complaint against him for violating the MCC.

The BJP demanded an explanation from Ghosh, asserting that his comment was unparliamentary and against the party's culture. The party leadership clarified that such remarks against women, especially a chief minister, were not endorsed by the party.

Ghosh later apologised for his remarks, maintaining that his choice of words was criticised by his party and others. He clarified that he holds no personal enmity against the chief minister and that controversies often arise over his straightforward comments.

The differences among the opposition parties of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra were out in the open on Wednesday after Congress leaders attacked the Shiv Sena (UBT) for unilaterally announcing its Lok Sabha candidates&nbsp;for four seats in Mumbai.

Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Nirupam targeted Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray for fielding a 'khichdi chor' from the seat where he was presenting a strong candidature. He was referring to the alleged scam in Khichdi distribution to the poor during Covid pandemic.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates' announcement, Nirupam said the announcement of Amol Kirtikar's candidacy for Mumbai North-West seat was a violation of alliance dharma.

"The candidate that Shiv Sena has fielded from northwest Mumbai - where I was presenting a strong candidature - took bribes from the contractor in COVID Khichdi scam, ED is probing it. Shiv Sena is intentionally fielding such a 'Khichdi chor'. This has hurt Congress cadres. I am upset too. I am sad that our negotiators didn't present Congress party's stand strongly...Shiv Sena (UBT) has attempted to suppress Congress," news agency ANI quoted Nirupam as saying.

"The manner in which Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced candidates on 4 out of the 6 Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai has upset the Congress cadres. Mumbai Congress leadership is very upset. Voters of Congress will also be upset due to the same. I would like to demand from our top leadership that they should take a stand against this decision of the Shiv Sena," Nirupam added.

Nirupam further urged the Congress party to break the ties and contest the polls on the disputed seats in a friendly manner. "There are only two options - First, break off the alliance. Second, have a friendly fight. Congress should field candidates for the seats on which we have a dispute and have not reached a solution..." he added

Nirupam's remarks came hours after Shiv Sena (UBT), a constituent of the opposition MVA, released its first list of 17 candidates in Maharashtra and said it would contest 22 of the 48 seats in the state.

PM Modi speaks to Sandeshkhali survivor fielded by BJP in polls, calls her ‘Shakti Swaroopa’

All six of the Congress MLAs who were disqualified by their party have been fielded for the Himachal Pradesh assembly bypolls by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) they recently joined.

On Saturday (March 23), in New Delhi, the disqualified Congress MPs joined the BJP along with three Independents who resigned from their seats.

The disqualified MLAs – Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Rajinder Rana, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Chetanya Sharma and Devinder Kumar Bhutto – joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur, former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, its national general secretary Arun Singh and state unit president Rajeev Bindal.

The BJP has fielded Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul and Spiti, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, Chaitanya Sharma from Gagret and Devinder Kumar Bhutto from Kutlehar.

The bypolls for these six seats will be held on June 1, on the same day four Lok Sabha constituencies of the hill states are going to vote in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The six MLAs were disqualified on February 29 for defying the Congress party's whip on being&nbsp;present in the House and voting in favour of the state government on&nbsp;a cut motion and budget.&nbsp;

It may be noted here, last month, the Congress government faced a political crisis after the BJP won the Rajya Sabha election for the state’s lone seat due to the support of the nine MLAs.

Following the disqualification of six Congress MLAs, the ruling party's representation in the 62-member assembly diminished from 39 to 33, compared to its initial count of 68. The BJP holds 25 seats. Affiliated with the Congress, the Speaker retains voting authority solely in the event of a tied floor test.

The bypolls for these six seats will be held on June 1, on the same day four Lok Sabha constituencies of the hill states are going to vote in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The six MLAs were disqualified on February 29 for defying the Congress party's whip on being present in the House and voting in favour of the state government on a cut motion and budget. (With inputs from agencies)

UPSC Civil Service Prelims Exam 2024 postponed due to Lok Sabha elections, to be held in June

Pashupati Kumar Paras, leader of the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP), resigned from the Union Cabinet on Tuesday (Mar 19) after his party didn't get any seats in the NDA poll alliance in Bihar.

Announcing his resignation, the brother of late Ram Vilas Paswan, said, "Yesterday, the NDA alliance announced the list of 40 candidates for Bihar Lok Sabha... Our party had five MPs &amp; I worked with utmost sincerity... Injustice has been done with us and our party. Therefore, I resign from the post of Union Minister."

<h2>NDA's seat distribution in Bihar</h2>

NDA announced seat sharing for Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with BJP and JD(U) scheduled to contest 17 and 16 seats respectively out of the total 40.&nbsp;Chirag Paswan's LJP got five seats in the allocation, while his uncle&nbsp;Paras'&nbsp;RLJP was left empty-handed.

Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Hindustani Awam Morcha, two National Democratic Alliance allies, will also contest one seat each. This is the first time the BJP is contesting more seats than JD(U) in Bihar.

<h2>Pashupati Kumar Paras vs. Chirag Paswan: Whose legacy is Hajipur?</h2>

Paras, who was Food Processing Industries Minister, aimed to contest the SC reserved, Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency, but his nephew, Ram Vilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan, also wanted to do the same.

Hajipur, the largest city of the Vaishali district, is an important seat for both Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag Paswan. It used to be Ram Vilas Paswan's bastion as he won the seat 8 times from 1977 to 2019. In 2019, Pashupati Kumar Paras won from this constituency with 5,41,310 votes. This time BJP gave the ticket to Chirag Paswan while Paras also reaffirmed his intent to contest from Hajipur.

<h2>Paras's next move</h2>

Paras kept his future plans under wraps, amidst rumours of discussions with RJD leaders. “I’ll chalk out my next political move after discussing with party leaders and workers,” he said.

With elections slated from April 19 to June 1, the BJP, JD(U), and LJP are in full preparation mode to take on each other in Bihar. The results anticipated on June 4 will shape Bihar's political landscape.

In a pointed remark directed at Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP), former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah declared on Friday (March 8) that he would never have joined the INDIA alliance if he had known it would require compromising his party's strength for another member of the alliance, especially one that secured the third position in the last election.

Abdullah emphasised that a party standing at number 3 has no legitimate claim to demand a seat, questioning the basis for PDP's requests.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the ongoing seat-sharing talks within the alliance, Abdullah stated that had he been informed about the necessity of weakening his own party for another alliance member, he would have refrained from joining the INDIA alliance.

This recent revelation adds to the growing discord within the alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah had announced the party's decision to go solo in the elections, although Omar Abdullah had initially clarified the party's commitment to the INDIA bloc without any apparent cracks.

However, the current rift between the National Conference and the PDP suggests significant challenges in achieving a unified front.

Referring to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP secured victories in Ladakh, Udhampur Jammu, and the National Conference claimed victories in Baramulla, Srinagar and Anantnag, Omar Abdullah highlighted the PDP's third-place finish with less than four percent of the vote share.

He emphasised his reluctance to compromise the Anantnag seat for the PDP and specified that his party would consider relinquishing the seat only if contested by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, or Priyanka Gandhi—not for Mehbooba Mufti's party.&nbsp;

The unfolding dynamics within the INDIA alliance underscore the challenges and differences among its members, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
