A young woman from Karachi, Pakistan, and her family were given a new life through an Indian heart, following a transplant procedure at Chennai's MGM Healthcare.

A young woman from Karachi, Pakistan, and her family were given a new life through an Indian heart, following a transplant procedure at Chennai's MGM Healthcare. The doctors and hospital did the treatment for free, thanks to the city-based Aishwaryan Trust, news channel NDTV reported. Ayesha Rashan, the transplant recipient, is 19 years old and was admitted with severe heart dysfunction. Her family stated that they could not have funded the procedure without the trust's and Chennai physicians' assistance. "I feel good after the transplant," Rashan told NDTV. The recipient's mother expressed gratitude to the doctors, hospital, and medical trust. Rashan's condition is stable, and she can go back to Pakistan. She experienced heart failure and was placed on ECMO, a type of life support for persons suffering from a life-threatening disease or accident that impairs the function of their heart or lungs. But that did not help because her heart pump developed a leak in a valve, needing a complete heart transplant. Also read: Are men weaker than women according to medical science? Experts break it down The cost of a heart transplant can go over ₹3.5 million, which would have been hard for her family to cover but Rashan's fee was covered by both doctors and the trust. Dr KR Balakrishnan, Director (Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant), and Dr Suresh Rao, Co-Director (Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant) told NDTV that Rashan received the heart swiftly because there were no competing claims; otherwise, a foreigner cannot obtain an organ. Currently, Tamil Nadu is the leading state in India in terms of organ donation and transplantation, due to proactive steps implemented decades ago. Additionally, the physicians appealed to the government for a better policy, citing reports from other states that multiple viable donated organs were being discarded due to the excessive cost of the transplant. The Institute of Business Administration better know as IBA Karachi saw unprecedented scenes on Wednesday (March 27) when students walked out on their potential recruiter, a global brand name and multinational company.

Students say that they sent in emails to their administration, against hosting a recruitment drive by the company, on grounds of the brand's image of being complicit to the ongoing situation in Gaza; a matter which remains part of a wider boycott movement.

Since this is an annual event, where representatives from Coca-Cola Pakistan come in and do their pitch and scout out who they believe are the most suitable fresh graduates for their business, the event went ahead as was planned.

After the introduction at the main auditorium of the IBA by representatives, where the event recruiters did ask for a minute long silence in respect of the lives lost in Gaza, what followed was beyond expectations. It is informed more than 90 per cent of the students present in the auditorium, got up and left, after showing banners against war in Gaza, leaving the recruiters rather embarrassed, to say the least.

The video of the students leaving and boycotting the drive has been widely shared on social networking platforms with alumni from the institute being all at praise.

Apart from inflationary economic pressures, the opportunity to start their practical lives at an established multinational would have been a feather in their cap, a matter their socio-economic circle would enquire on their future.

Terror outfit Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the twin blasts that shook Pakistan on Wednesday (February 7) just a day before the South Asian country is to hold national elections.

The group took to Telegram to claim that IS fighters detonated the explosives "in the middle of an election gathering...in the Killa Saifullah area in Balochistan" province, not long before claiming authority for a similar attack in the Pishin district of the province.

The fact that a million security officers were deployed across the nation did not stop perpetrators from carrying out the blasts.

"The aim of today's blasts was to sabotage the election," said Jan Achakzai, caretaker information minister for Balochistan province, where the blasts happened.

"Despite today's blasts, the election will take place tomorrow. People of Balochistan will come out tomorrow without any fear."

The first blast involved an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that killed 16 people in the Pishin district of Balochistan. Those killed were standing outside the office of an independent candidate. The location is 50 kilometres from Quetta, the largest city in Balochistan province.

The second blast took place in the city of Killa Saifullah which is about 120 kilometres east. This blast killed 12 people near the office of a candidate from the Islamist Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) party.

AFP reported that the candidate's office is located in the main bazaar of the city.

A total of 34 people were injured in both attacks, according to Achakzai.

This is not the first attack against the (JUI-F) party. Last year in July, a suicide bomber attack at the party's rally claimed 44 lives. The rally was held in northwestern Pakistan.
