According to Rabbi Dov Greenberg, director of the Chabad Stanford Jewish Center, who spoke to three of the 18 students present, the lecturer directed these students to stand apart and purportedly made the statement, "This is what Israel does to Palestinians," as relayed by students to Greenberg.

The situation further escalated when the instructor asked about the Holocaust's death toll.

When a student replied, "six million," the lecturer allegedly responded, "Yes. Only six million," and went on to assert, "Colonisers killed more than six million. Israel is a coloniser."

Leaders of Stanford's Israeli Student Association spoke with students who were in the classroom and collected additional details regarding the incident.

According to their accounts, the lecturer began by attributing blame for the conflict to Zionists and attempting to justify Hamas'&nbsp;actions as part of a legitimate resistance movement.

The lecturer downplayed the tragic loss of Jewish lives during the Holocaust by claiming that colonisation had caused more casualties than the Shoah&nbsp;(a Hebrew word that is often used to refer to the Holocaust).

Furthermore, it was reported that the instructor asked students to disclose their ancestral origins and labelled them as "colonisers" or "colonised" based on their responses.

A video of ultra-orthodox Jews spitting towards Christian worshippers in the Old City of Jerusalem has surfaced online, causing uproar in Israel amidst concerns over the rise in motivated attacks.

The video shared on X purportedly showed a group of foreign pilgrims exiting a church with a giant red wooden cross as they began their procession through the limestone labyrinth of the Old City, home to the holiest ground in Judaism, the third-holiest shrine in Islam and major Christian sites.

According to the Times of Israel newspaper, the incident occurred on Monday during the Sukkot holiday.

As they walked on the Old City route, which they believe Jesus Christ took before his crucifixion, at least seven Jews in dark suits can be seen spitting on the ground beside the Christian tour group.

But what made matters worse was when an ultranationalist settler leader and former adviser to a lawmaker in PM Netanyahu’s governing coalition, Elisha Yered, defended the spitters, arguing that spitting at Christian clergy and at churches was an “ancient Jewish custom”.

“Perhaps under the influence of Western culture we have somewhat forgotten what Christianity is,” he wrote on X.

“I think millions of Jews who suffered in exile from the Crusades … will never forget.”

Yered, who remains under house arrest, is suspected of involvement in the killing of a 19-year-old Palestinian.

<h2>PM, other ministers condemn incident</h2>

However, several ruling ministers and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu distanced themselves from the comments of Yered and condemned the incident.

“Israel is totally committed to safeguard&nbsp;the sacred right of worship and pilgrimage to the holy sites of all faiths. I strongly condemn any attempt to intimidate worshippers, and I am committed to taking immediate and decisive action against it,” Netanyahu posted on X.

“Derogatory conduct towards worshipers is sacrilege and is simply unacceptable. Any form of hostility towards individuals engaged in worship will not be tolerated,” he added.

Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi David Lau spoke out against the incident, saying “such phenomena are unwarranted and certainly should not be attributed to Jewish law.”

There are roughly 15,000 Christians in Jerusalem today, according to &nbsp;AP news agency, with the majority of them Palestinians who consider themselves living under occupation.

Koenig's letter, written in German, reported that the Nazis were killing up to 6,000 Jews and Poles daily in Rava Ruska, a town in pre-war Poland (now in Ukraine), and transporting them to the Belzec death camp.

Coco told Corriere that the letter is important because it places the correspondence within the same timeframe when Pope Pius XII was receiving diplomatic notes from British and Polish envoys to the Vatican, reporting that as many as 1 million Jews had been killed in Poland.

Newly unearthed letter reveals Pope Pius XII knew of Nazi killings of 6,000 Jews and Poles

A Polish couple and their seven children, who were killed by Nazis during Second World War for hiding Jews in order to save them, were beatified on Sunday. This marked the first time an entire family was given Catholicism's highest honours.

The ceremony took place in Markowa, the family's hometown in south-west Poland. It was led by Papal envoy Cardinal Marcello Semeraro and was attended by thousands, including the president and prime minister, bishops, priests, the country's chief rabbi and an Israeli delegation.

Pope Francis himself commended the family and prayed for them.

"May this Polish family, who represented a ray of light in the darkness of the Second World War, be for us all a model to imitate in the impulse of goodness, in the service of those in need," Pope Francis said on Sunday. &nbsp;

On March 24, 1944, the German police shot dead Jozef Ulma and his wife Wiktoria, who was seven months pregnant and even partially gave birth during execution.

Their children, Stanislawa, Barbara, Wladyslav, Franciszek, Antoni and Maria, aged between two and eight, were killed too, along with the eight Jews the family had been hiding in the attic.&nbsp;

The eight -- Shaul Goldmann and his five children, including his daughter Lea Didner and her five-year-old daughter, and Golda Gruenfeld -- were also shot, before the family farmhouse was looted and set on fire.&nbsp;

Vatican News said that the police fired into the attic from below "and the blood of the victims began to drip from the ceiling... onto a photograph of two Jewish woman lying on a table below"

That photograph "has been preserved as a 'relic'", it said.&nbsp;

Italian journalist Manuela Tulli told AFP that the massacre followed "a story of love and friendship".&nbsp;

"When the Jews asked for help, they opened their doors. They lived together for a year and a half, cooking and eating together,"&nbsp;Tulli told AFP.&nbsp;

Jozef Ulma was a farmer but also a keen photographer.

The Ulma family are the first ever to be beatified, a key step on a possible path to sainthood in the Catholic Church. &nbsp;

And in a rare move, the Ulmas' newborn seventh child also earned the title of "blessed".&nbsp;

The child was eligible for beatification through the concept of "baptism of blood", having been born "at the time of the mother's martyrdom", according to the Vatican's department for saints.&nbsp;

A racist video depicting girls in Ashkenazi (Jewish people whose ancestors were in France and Central and Eastern Europe) and Mizrahi (descendants of Middle Eastern and North African Jews) representations was posted to the school's Youtube account.

The now-deleted video was published on social media under the title "If the School Was Mizrahi" and was part of the Purim skit. Purim is a joyous Jewish festival commemorating the survival of the Jews in the ancient Persian empire.&nbsp;

The schoolgirls in the video can be seen going in a line through a door with black blotches covering their faces.&nbsp;In the video, comparisons are made with regards to behaviour and choices in general.&nbsp;It goes to the extent where Ashkenazi are depicted as women&nbsp;who are serene, creative, and spiritual. On the other hand,&nbsp;Mizrahi girls are depicted as wild, boisterous, and improper.

It was seen in the video that each girl's name lights on the screen as she passes by. Her last name is scratched out and Mizrahi names are placed there.&nbsp;

The students in the video are 12th graders. There is also a staff member seen in the video who made an appearance at one point.

The video soon gained traction and received widespread condemnation with people terming its content as racist. When the opposing voices grew stronger, the school decided to take down the video from social media platform.

"This is a video that never should have been made, and it was an accident that happened under our watch," the school's management said in a statement.

"The school apologises and is sorry for the content even though it was made by the students as satire and a parody as part of Purim events. Anyone who was exposed to the school's activity throughout the years knows that this doesn't reflect the schools at all."

The students defended themselves saying that it was only recorded in good faith and meant no harm.&nbsp;

"In light of the outrage that the video we uploaded during Adar caused, we the 12th graders want to clear up a few things," they said in a statement. "The video was produced in a purely humorous way and refers to the school's inside jokes."

Education Minister Yoav Kisch also condemned the video. "I watched the video made by the school's students in shock."

"I'm even more surprised and horrified that no one in the system vetoed it. The matter is being investigated in the Education Ministry, and our message is clear: There is zero tolerance for racism."

A court found former Israeli headmistress Malka Leifer guilty of sexually assaulting her former students in Australia's ultra-Orthodox Jewish girls school.&nbsp;

On Monday, the jury concluded that Malka Leifer was guilty of raping and indecently assaulting sisters Dassi Erlich and Elly Sapper between 2003 and 2007.

However, the jury did not find her guilty of sexually abusing a third sister, Nicole Meyer.

Leifer, aged 56, pleaded not guilty to more than two dozen charges against her and spent years battling extradition from Israel.

However, in 2021, her extradition to Australia was ordered by an Israeli judge.&nbsp;

Victoria's County Court, during the six-week trial, heard evidence that Leifer was among the revered figures at Adass Israel School in Melbourne, where the three sisters were studying.

They stated that the sisters were abused by the former headmistress in the school's locked classrooms, in school camps, and at the home of the head teacher.

The jury said that the sexual abuse continued after the sisters graduated and came back to the school as student teachers.&nbsp;

"When we look back at the journey that it took, everything that happened in Israel, it was so unbelievable that we get to this time and we have: she's guilty, she's guilty; that can't be taken away, she is guilty," Erlich said while speaking to the reporters outside a Melbourne court, flanked by her sisters.

Prosecutor Justin Lewis argued that Malka Leifer had shown "a tendency to have a sexual interest in girls". He said that she misused her position and also that the sisters' "vulnerability (and) their ignorance in sexual matters".

Defence barrister Ian Hill said that the allegations against Leifer were false and questioned the witnesses' reliability.&nbsp;

The racism incident occurred last Monday. A religious high school in Netivot in southern Israel had sent their teachers and students on a three-day trip.&nbsp;Girls seated behind one of the teachers saw the group chat messages. It had included insulting remarks directed against the Ethiopian-Israeli students.

Without the teacher's knowledge, the girl recorded&nbsp;the texts over a teacher's shoulder and later uploaded it on social media in a message that included images of the offending statements.

They called the teachers "a disgrace".&nbsp;

"Good morning to all the 'educators' of this school," the girl wrote while sharing the images she clicked.

"It saddens me as a member of the [Ethiopian] community to see the level you sank to today. Instead of being our teachers and setting an example and making us feel like we're in our safest place, you did the exact opposite."

"Opening a group called 'Black School Trip' without even realising that there were students behind you and mocking your students? I see the photos, and I just don't believe that they come from our teachers. You are a disgrace, I'm ashamed that you're our teachers and that you're teaching the future generation."

The school's headmaster termed the incident a "shock and devastation to miserable and extremely offensive comments from teachers about Ethiopian students who study in the school". "The school management looks at these comments severely. There is no place for racist comments, and we won't allow them in our school."

Actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has issued an impassioned speech on Youtube addressing the rising tide of anti-semitism. &nbsp;The actor spoke directly with people who indulged in hate in the 12-minute-long video which was similar to his viral message last year when he addressed the people of Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp; 
 
“Despite all the things we might disagree about, my friends might say, ‘Arnold, don’t talk to those people, it’s not worth it,'” the actor can be heard saying in the video. “I don’t care what they say. I care about you. I think you’re worth it. I know that nobody’s perfect. I understand how people can fall into the trap of prejudice and hate.” 
 
In the video, Schwarzenegger began his speech by vividly describing a tour he took of Auschwitz, where approximately 1.1 million Jews were killed by the German SS during World War II. He also mentioned his father, who was a member of the Nazi party. 
 
“They fell for a horrible, loser ideology,” Schwarzenegger said. “They were lied to and misled into a path that ended in misery … they bought into the idea that the only way to make their lives better was to make other lives worse …. It breaks you … it is the path of the weak … there has never been a successful movement based on hate.” 
The actor then addressed those who have embraced a hateful worldview, either due to their upbringing or due to being drawn into extremist online rabbit holes. Schwarzenegger encouraged them to improve themselves and their own lives rather than blame others and used one his favourite metaphors – struggling in the gym.

Anti-Muslims accounted for 9.5 per cent of religion-based hate crimes. Anti-Catholic incidents accounted for 6.1 per cent and anti-Eastern Orthodox (Russian, Greek, Other) for 6.5 per cent.

Overall, law enforcement agencies reported 7,262 total incidents and 9,024 victims, demonstrating that hate crimes remain a concern for communities across the country, the FBI said.

The overall number of agencies reporting decreased to 11,834, from 15,138 in 2021, so data cannot reliably be compared across years, it said.

Chairman of Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Dani Dayan, welcomed the move and said that it will help in broadening Germany’s remembrance culture.

“The Holocaust was an onslaught against humanity: LGBTQ individuals, Roma and Sinti, mentally disabled persons, but especially against the Jewish people,” he told AFP on a visit to Berlin this week.

“We respect and we honour all the victims.”

Concurring with his views, the head of Germany’s Central Council of Jews, Josef Schuster, said that while the main group of Holocaust victims were Jews, “they weren’t the only ones.”

Fast food giant KFC has apologised after it asked its customers in Germany to 'commemorate Kristallnacht,' a Nazi atrocity that is seen as the beginning of systematic Nazi attempts to annihilate Jewish population. KFC on Wednesday (October 9) asked customers to commemorate the atrocity by ordering Chicken and Cheese from the fast food chain. It was a push notification sent by KFC on customers' mobile phones.

“Commemorate Kristallnacht – treat yourself to more soft cheese and crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!” said the notification.

KFC appeared to be in damage control mode as it sent another notification just an hour later and apologised for the previous one. KFC said that the previous notification was sent due to “a fault in our system”

84 years ago, 'Kristallnacht' or 'night of the broken glass' saw Nazi-led gangs vandalising and even setting on fire, shops and businesses owned by Jews in Germany. Even Synagogues were not spared.

A wristwatch once worn by Adolf Hitler was sold for USD 1.1 million at an auction in the US. The Huber timepiece, which bears a hakenkreuz symbol and has the initials ‘AH’ engraved on it, was sold to an anonymous bidder.

The auction house— Alexander Historical Auctions —that put the watch for bidding had estimated it to fetch anywhere between $2m and $4m, Deutsche Welle reported. It was described as a "World War II relic of historic proportions."

According to the auction house, a French soldier part of a unit of 30 soldiers had taken possession of the watch.&nbsp;The timepiece was then reportedly resold and passed down through several generations until now, BBC quoted the assessment by the auction house.

Apart from the watch, some other articles that once belonged to Hitler were also&nbsp;sold in the auction. During the holocaust, the Jewish people were forced by the Nazis to wear the yellow identifiers as armbands or badges, with the intention to isolate and harass them.

However, Jewish leaders condemned the auction that took place this week in Maryland saying that it had little to no historical value.

In an open letter signed by 34 Jewish leaders, the auction was termed "abhorrent". They also demanded that other Nazi items to be taken down from the auction.

“Whilst it is obvious that the lessons of history need to be learned — and legitimate Nazi artefacts do belong in museums or places of higher learning — the items that you are selling clearly do not," said Rabbi Menachem Margolin, chairman of the European Jewish Association wrote, according to BBC.

However, auction house's president&nbsp;Bill Panagopulos&nbsp;defended the auction saying that the buyer is a European Jew.

"Whether good or bad history, it must be preserved. If you destroy history, there is no proof that it happened,” Senior Vice President Mindy Greenstein told Deutsche Welle.

More than 100 Hasidic passengers were removed from a connecting flight from New York to Budapest on May 4 because some of them had not worn masks and engaged in other flight infractions, such as congregating in the aisles, according to a letter from Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Ritter also stated that the airline had formed an internal task force to investigate the incident.

Jews in America and Europe were incensed by the episode, and some of them claimed that the crew had discriminated against all visibly Jewish passengers, even those who had followed the regulations.

More than 100 Hasidic passengers were removed from a connecting flight from New York to Budapest on May 4 because some of them had not worn masks and engaged in other flight infractions, such as congregating in the aisles, according to a letter from Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Release of the report has coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day which begins on Wednesday night. The day, known as Yom HaShoah in Israel remembers six million Jews killed by Nazi Germany during Second World War.

The report has been made by Center for the study of Contemporary European Jewry at Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Humanities. The report has been made by analysing dozens of studies carried across the world. It says that there has been "a significant increase in various types of anti-Semitic incidents in most countries with large Jewish populations".

The United States has largest Jewish population outside of Israel. The report said that anti-Jewish hate crimes in New York and Los Angeles were twice those that took place in the previous year.

As per the report, France recorded 75 per cent rise in anti-Semitic incidents compared with 2020.

In the UK, there was 78 per cent increase in number of physical assaults against Jews.

A leading Jewish group in Canada recorded 40-year high in physical assaults against Jews in the month of August.
