The state tourism department says that the industry contributes 16 per cent of the state's total GDP. &nbsp;The United States, the UK, and Australia have already updated their travel advisories for the Kashmir valley, keeping the foreign tourist away too.&nbsp;

"We are fighting the perception that is being created about Kashmir which is that this place isn't safe. We have to fight this and this is our big challenge right now. I want to tell every tourist, come and see our hospitality," says Asif Burza, a reputed hotelier of Kashmir valley.

The hotels are empty which has led to a crisis of sorts, as some staff has been laid off and some tourism players looking for alternative opportunities. The all-important sector of the state is now struggling and fighting to revive itself.&nbsp;

"People who come here are our best ambassadors, they should tell others about their experience in the valley," says Asif, adding that GST has also kept tourists away as prices have also gone up.&nbsp;

The state's tourism department is trying to reach out to people in different states of India by organising road shows and pumping money into advertising -- all in the hope that people from these states would head to Kashmir.

"After the Pulwama incident, the inflow of tourists has been affected. Then, airfields were closed, which gave a wrong signal to the tourists, otherwise we had houseboats booked till June this year," says Nasir Wani, the director tourism Kashmir.&nbsp;

Now, people associated with the industry have pinned their hope in the coming month for their better future.&nbsp;

Batting strongly for delimitation of assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan (DSS) Thursday demanded grant of eight seats to Jammu region, including six seats for Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) refugees.

Former minister and DSS chairman Choudhary Lal Singh said seats under this process should be granted to Jammu through an administrative order by the governor as has been done in the past.

Ministry of Home Affairs denies discussing delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir: Sources

Amit Shah seems to have hit the ground running in the very first week of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/amit-shah-takes-charge-as-union-home-minister-223339">taking over as India’s Home Minister</a>. He has held a slew of review meetings, mostly on internal security and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the latest review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday - his second in as many days - Shah reportedly discussed redrawing the long pending delimitation of constituencies in the state. However, there has been no confirmation from the Ministry of Home Affairs on whether the delimitation matter was discussed at the meeting today.&nbsp;

As of now, four MLAs are elected from the Ladakh region, 46 MLAs come from Kashmir and 37 from the Jammu region.&nbsp;

In case delimitation is implemented in J&amp;K, it will lead to an increase in number of seats from the Jammu region, thereby opening the door for a Hindu Chief Minister. Till now, the state has always seen a Muslim chief minister. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was the first Muslim chief minister from the Jammu region. Rest of the chief ministers have come from the Kashmir region.

Traditionally, the position of deputy chief minister has always been accorded a Hindu from the state no matter which government came in power.

The Constitution of India provides for delimitation to be carried out every 10 years. Going by this logic, the next delimitation would have taken place in 2005 but in 2002 Farooq Abdullah chose to freeze delimitation exercise in the state until 2026 by amending the Jammu and Kashmir Representation Act and Section 47(3) of the state’s constitution. It put the contentious matter in abeyance.

This is where the Governor comes in. He is competent to amend Section 47 of the J&amp;K constitution because, during the President’s Rule, the legislative authority is vested in the Governor. During the last delimitation exercise, the state was divided into 87 Assembly constituencies.

Rejecting the OIC Communiqué, the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said, "The OIC has no locus standi in matters relating to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. It is reiterated that OIC should refrain from making such unwarranted references”.

The OIC in its Communiqué mentioned Kashmir six times and said, it "reaffirmed its principled support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the realization of their legitimate right to self-determination".

It is not for the first time when the OIC has made references on Kashmir. India has slammed the group, which comprises 57 Muslim countries, every time.

Since the early 1990s, communiqués and resolutions have been issued at the OIC summits and ministerial meetings which have included one-sided criticism of India. Pakistan has been behind such anti-India references in the OIC communiqués/resolutions.

Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was invited for the 46th OIC foreign ministers meet at Abu Dhabi on March 1. She was in attendance as the Guest of Honour. The invite was extended by foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of Abu Dhabi foreign ministers meet, where India was invited on March 1, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan said, "OIC has sent a very clear and a positive sign to India, to the people of India, that the OIC appreciates the relationship with India".

Adding, that the organisation, "looks forward to strengthening such a relationship with India to the point where we can embrace India one day in the OIC".

Pakistan boycotted the plenary session at the OIC foreign minister's meet due to India's presence. Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had written to OIC secretary-general Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al Othaimeen asking the UAE to rescind the invite to India. The plea did not receive any response.

Earlier this year, Syrian envoy to India Dr Riad Abbas, told WION, "India has full right to be a permanent member of the OIC and we would like to be a full member of the OIC."

In 1969, the Indian delegation led by Congress leader Fakrudin Ali Ahmed, who later became the President of India, was not allowed to attend the final session of the OIC in Rabat, Morocco at the behest of Pakistan's then-president, Yahya Khan.

During the search operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire at the joint forces of the Indian army, J&amp;K police and CRPF, triggering an encounter.

In the exchange of fire, two Hizbul-Mujahideen terrorists including a top commander Abid Manzoor alias Sajju Tiger were killed.

Police said both terrorists were involved in several attacks on security establishment and were wanted in different cases.
