The Israeli military, on Saturday (Oct 14), released a statement saying that they had found the bodies of some of the hostages abducted by the Hamas militant group during their operations inside Gaza this week.

"We have found and located some bodies of Israelis who were abducted in the perimeter in the Gaza Strip," a military spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, told a briefing.

Israel claimed that at least 120 people were taken hostage when Hamas launched unprecedented attacks against Israel last week on Oct 7 that claimed the lives of at least 1,300.

The Israeli military has since orchestrated "localised" raids inside Gaza to support an air offensive on the territory that the Hamas government says has killed at least 2,215.

Lerner said the bodies of hostages were found on these "small, close-perimeter raids into the Gaza Strip".

The Israeli military has carried out air raids on thousands of Hamas targets in Gaza, said the spokesman.

"They include quality targets such as drone facilities, they include naval facilities, they include command and control facilities, they include all of the rocket facilities," Lerner said.

"Our assessment suggests that at this time Hamas are in a state of disarray, they have no idea what the situation is above ground, they have escaped into the tunnels."

Lerner did not say there is a deadline to leave north Gaza but told the briefing: "We have extended once again because we realised that there is a huge amount of people that need to get out. We are continuing to encourage the population in the north of the Gaza Strip and Gaza City to go south and get out of harm's way."

Foreign ministry spokesman Lior Haiat told the briefing that Israel is not demanding that Palestinians leave Gaza but just to get out of the north.

"We gave them (civilians) the time to do so and we will continue to give civilians time to leave the places that we think Hamas is using for its terrorist infrastructure," Haiat said.

One Israeli man was said to be seriously injured and his two daughters were reported lightly hurt after a shooting attack in the occupied West Bank on Sunday (July 16) morning, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli emergency services. The latest incident is a&nbsp;rare occurrence in the Israel-occupied southern West Bank which is much calmer than the north. &nbsp;

<h2>What do we know about the incident?</h2>

According to the Israeli military, the trio, which also included two girls, aged 9 and 14, was injured after being shot at by a moving vehicle at the Tekoa Junction, south of Bethlehem, which is some 16 kilometres away from south of Jerusalem.&nbsp;

The 35-year-old man was taken to the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, said Magen David Adom Israeli ambulance service, adding that he is in serious but stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, the girls were reported mildly injured. All three have been taken to the hospital in Jerusalem.&nbsp;

The victims were later identified as Elroi Kapach and his two daughters, Rachel and Avigayil, according to Israeli media reports. The trio reportedly live in the settlement of Nokdim.&nbsp;

In a statement obtained by The Jerusalem Post, the local mayor Shlomo Ne’eman, said “We’re talking about an area where there hasn’t been a serious terrorist attack for years.”&nbsp;

He added, “We all wish a speedy recovery to the person wounded, and embrace the security forces who will soon catch the despicable terrorists, and settle the score with them. We will not give in to the terrorists who seek to spill Jewish blood and throw us out of our country.”&nbsp;

<h2>Gunman arrested</h2>

According to the IDF, the Palestinian gunman, or gunmen, opened fire from a passing vehicle at the victims’ car. The&nbsp;Palestinian gunman who had fled the scene was&nbsp;captured hours later by the Israeli forces. 
 
This arrest took place&nbsp;after the Israeli military&nbsp;raided Bethlehem&nbsp;and detained&nbsp;the suspected gunman as well as&nbsp;his car&nbsp;which contained an M16 assault rifle. Additionally,&nbsp;two other suspects were also apprehended.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to local media reports, at least 15&nbsp;Palestinians were injured in the raid but reportedly sustained&nbsp;minor injuries.&nbsp;

Palestinian who opened fire, threw grenade at Israeli forces, shot dead

At least five&nbsp;Palestinians have been killed and 91&nbsp;others&nbsp;wounded after an Israeli military raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank, said the Palestinian Ministry of Health, on Monday (June 19). This comes as the Israeli forces conducted an early morning raid involving an Apache helicopter for the first time in the West Bank in some two decades.&nbsp;

<h2>What has Israel said about the raid in the West Bank?</h2>

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Border Police said that their personnel entered the northern West Bank city in the early morning hours to detain two Palestinians. “During the activity, a massive exchange of fire took place between the forces and armed gunmen in the area,” said the Israeli forces, in a joint statement.&nbsp;

It added, “Large numbers of explosive devices were hurled at the forces. The forces responded with live fire.” The IDF also said that several suspects were hit during the raid and “as the security forces exited the city, a military vehicle was hit by an explosive device, damaging the vehicle".

At least seven Israeli troops and border police personnel were injured in the roadside blast and gunfire said the IDF and police. In a separate joint statement, Israeli forces said two IDF soldiers were moderately injured and five Border Police officers were moderate to lightly wounded and have been airlifted to hospitals in Israel for treatment.&nbsp;

An Apache helicopter was then deployed to launch missiles after gunmen were identified, said the IDF, to allow safe evacuation of the wounded soldiers and drive back gunmen. The Syrian ministry of defence has said that Israeli surface-to-surface missiles killed three people near Damascus.

Syria's official news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying, "The Israeli enemy carried out an aggression... that led to the death of three martyrs and some material losses."

The missiles, that were intercepted by the Syrian air defences, had come from the Israeli-occupied Golan heights.

Other than the three people who were killed in the attack, four members of the air defence crew were wounded according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor.

The Israeli military said on Thursday it was investigating the fatal shooting of a Palestinian civilian in the occupied West Bank, who residents said was killed by soldiers while returning from work in Israel.

In a statement, the military said troops operating on Wednesday near a highway where Israeli vehicles had come under fire-bomb attack earlier in the week, had fired at a "suspect, who fled the area".

Some 90 minutes later, "a civilian with a gunshot wound" arrived at an Israeli military checkpoint in critical condition and was treated by medical personnel, but died, the statement said.

Palestinian residents identified the deceased as a 39-year-old man who lives near the scene of the shooting. They said he could work legally in Israel and was on his way home when he was shot.

"The incident is under review, and is simultaneously being investigated by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division," the military said. "The findings will be transferred to the Military Advocate General's Corps for examination."

Israel’s top general said on Tuesday that its military was refreshing its operational plans against Iran and that any US&nbsp;return to a 2015 nuclear accord with Tehran would be “wrong.”

The comments by Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi came as Israel and Iran both seek to put pressure on President Joe Biden ahead of his expected announcement on his approach for dealing with the Iranian nuclear programme. In Iran, leaders said they would not wait indefinitely for Biden to act.

Such comments by Israel’s military chief of staff on US&nbsp;policymaking are rare and likely would have been pre-approved by the Israeli government.

“A return to the 2015 nuclear agreement, or even if it is a similar accord with several improvements, is bad and wrong from an operational and strategic point of view,” Lieutenant-General Aviv Kohavi said in an address to Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies.

Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, abandoned the nuclear agreement in 2018, a move that was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who criticised the sanctions relief it offered and warned of the likelihood of Iranian nuclear arms development after its expiration.

Biden has said he will seek to revive the deal, with some changes.

The 2015 deal put curbs on Iran's nuclear programme in exchange for the easing of crippling economic sanctions. Israel strongly opposed the deal, saying it did not include sufficient safeguards to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Antony Blinken confirmed on Tuesday as Biden’s secretary of state, said last week the United States was “a long way” from deciding whether to rejoin the deal and it would need to see what Iran actually did to resume complying with the pact.

Since Washington pulled out of the deal, Iran has gradually breached its key limits, building up its stockpile of low enriched uranium, enriching uranium to higher levels of purity, and installing centrifuges in ways barred by the accord.

Kohavi said those actions by Iran, which denies it is seeking atomic arms, showed it could ultimately decide to push forward rapidly towards building a nuclear weapon.

“In light of this fundamental analysis, I have instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to those already in place,” Kohavi said.

“It will be up to the political leadership, of course, to decide on implementation, but these plans need to be on the table.”

Netanyahu had threatened possible Israeli strikes against Iran in the run-up to the accord. But a senior Israeli officer, who spoke to reporters in 2015 on condition of anonymity, underscored differences in Israel over the issue by saying a deal had potential security benefits.

Tensions around Iran have steadily increased. The Indian Army has banned 89 applications and asked all its officers and soldiers to uninstall them by July 15, reports said on Wednesday.

These include Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Tinder, OkCupid, UC Browser, Bumble, ShareIt, Xender, Helo, CamScanner, Club Factory and&nbsp;others.

The decision&nbsp;comes&nbsp;around 10 days after the Indian government&nbsp;prohibited 59 Chinese mobile applications, including the famous video-sharing app TikTok, offering a harsh expression on India's stand against Chinese aggression.

The Israeli government does not comment on individual arms contracts, but Monday's statement said radar and early warning systems accounted for 17 percent of sales, with missiles, rockets and air defence systems bringing in 15 percent.
