“It is important that Israel should have been very mindful of civilian casualties and that it has an obligation to observe international humanitarian law,” the EAM said.

The number of Palestinians killed during the war in Gaza has surpassed 28,000 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.

Speaking of the hostages, Jaishankar said their release was important to secure a peace deal.

“The return of hostages is today imperative,” he said while sharing the stage with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

Jaishankar further talked about the need to establish a humanitarian, sustainable corridor in Gaza to provide relief material to the Gazan population.

“There is a need for a humanitarian corridor, a sustainable corridor to provide relief,” he said.

Jaishankar also talked about the need to have a long-term solution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. He said India’s commitment towards a two-state solution has been unwavering and it was more urgent than ever to secure a solution.

“Eventually, there has to be a permanent fix, a long term fix, otherwise you’re going to see reoccurrence. India has certainly believed in a two-state solution, we maintain that position from many decades,” Jaishankar said. “And today many more countries in the world feel not just the two-state solution is necessary but it is more urgent than it was before,” he added.

We try to explain what are the different pulls and pressures that countries have. it's very hard to have that unidimensional relationship," Jaishankar said.

UN officials on Friday (Feb 16) said thousands of Palestinians are fleeing the southern Gazan city of Rafah as intense Israeli bombardment continues. The statement from the UN came as airstrikes on Rafah killed at least 13 people overnight, according to hospital officials.

It is speculated that 1.4 million people have made their way to Rafah after being displaced from other territories. Hundreds of thousands are living in sprawling tent camps.

Speaking to reporters, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said people were moving in large numbers towards Deir al-Balah, which is roughly 16 kilometres (10 miles) north of Rafah.

“In Rafah, humanitarian conditions have become increasingly severe, with continued reports of people stopping aid trucks to take food,” he said.

2023 deadliest year for journalists: 99 killed, 77 in Israel-Hamas War alone

The Israeli military on Thursday (Feb 15) claimed that it had killed a Hezbollah commander, his deputy and another fighter in an air strike in Lebanese territory. In a statement, the military said that Ali al-Debs and the other two fighters were killed Wednesday night.&nbsp;

As per the Israeli military, the fighters allegedly died "in a precise air strike carried out by an IDF (Israeli Army) aircraft on a Hezbollah military structure in Nabatiyeh".&nbsp;

In response to the Israeli strikes, Hezbollah said&nbsp;it had fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel on Thursday.

An investigation has been launched by the United States government into Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip which killed civilians and the alleged use of white phosphorus in Lebanon in October, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.&nbsp;

The officials told the US-based media outlet that the State Department has aimed to find out whether or not Israel misused its bombs and missiles.&nbsp;

The air strikes in the Gaza Strip reportedly killed civilians, including children. In particular, the department is investigating an airstrike on October 31 in the Jabalia refugee camp, which according to local health officials killed more than 125 victims.&nbsp;

“The current military-security situation heralds what is likely to be a more dangerous decade, characterised by the brazen application by some of military power to pursue claims – evoking a ‘might is right’ approach – as well as the desire among like-minded democracies for stronger bilateral and multilateral defence ties in response,’’ the report said.

In 2023, global defence spending rose nine per cent to $2.2 trillion, according to the report, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine entering its third year and amid concerns that China and other militarily powerful states may try to impose their will on neighbouring countries.&nbsp;

The expenditure is expected to rise in 2024, said the IISS, amid international uncertainty as the situation in the Middle East deteriorates in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.&nbsp;

The conflict seems to be spreading as Iranian-backed militant groups including Yemen-based Houthis and Lebanon-based Hezbollah have entered the fray and the United States launching retaliatory attacks against the forces in the region.&nbsp;

UN chief slams record spending on arms over climate; report suggests world faces a ‘dangerous decade’

The US ratings agency&nbsp;Moody's downgraded Israel's credit rating Friday due to the impact of its ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, lowering it by one notch from A1 to A2.

In a statement,&nbsp;Moody's said it had done so after assessing that "the ongoing military conflict with Hamas, its aftermath and wider consequences materially raise political risk for Israel as well as weaken its executive and legislative institutions and its fiscal strength, for the foreseeable future."

It was the first time Israel has been downgraded, Bloomberg reported.&nbsp;

Moody's also lowered its outlook for Israel's debt to "negative" due to "the risk of an escalation" with the far more powerful Lebanese militant group Hezbollah that operates along its northern border.&nbsp;

Hamas's unprecedented October 7 attack resulted in the deaths of about 1,160 people in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

In response, Israel launched air strikes and a ground offensive that have killed at least 27,947 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

Following the attack, S&amp;P Global Ratings lowered Israel's credit outlook from stable to negative on risks that the Israel-Hamas conflict could broaden.

Fitch -- which is the last of the big three US ratings agencies -- placed Israel on negative watch over risks from the conflict.

"The weakened security environment implies higher social risk and indicates weaker executive and legislative institutions than&nbsp;Moody's previously assessed," the ratings agency said Friday in the statement explaining its decision.&nbsp;

"At the same time, Israel's public finances are deteriorating and the previously projected downward trend in the public debt ratio has now reversed," it continued. &nbsp;

"Moody's expects that Israel's debt burden will be materially higher than projected before the conflict," it added.

"Moody's expects that Israel's debt burden will be materially higher than projected before the conflict," it added.

However, lawyer Mark Summers KC for Alhayek and Ankunda, argued that the police were “mistaken” about what they saw that day and termed them images of cartoon parachutes which are a “well-known nationalist symbol of peace”.

The idea that the image was of a paraglider started with “an internet group with an agenda,” said KC.&nbsp;

“Seven days earlier, Hamas went into Israel with what was described by the media as paragliders. A reasonable person would have seen and read that,” said the district court judge.&nbsp;

He added, “I want to be clear, there’s no evidence that any of these defendants are supporters of Hamas, or were seeking to show support for them.”

The judge said he had “decided not to punish” the defendants while handing them the 12-month conditional discharge.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Glorification of the actions’ of Hamas</h2>

In response to the verdict, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said that displaying the images amounted to the “glorification of the actions” of the Palestinian militant group.&nbsp;

“All three women knowingly displayed the images of paragliders in central London and therefore showed their support for Hamas – a proscribed terrorist organisation,” said Nick Price of CPS&nbsp;in a statement.

He added, “The fact that these images were being displayed in the context of a protest opposing the Israeli response to the Hamas attacks demonstrates a glorification of the actions taken by the group.”

"This would be in serious and irreparable breach both of the Genocide Convention and of the Court's Order of Jan. 26."

The Hague-based ICJ declined to comment on whether it had received the request.

In the room, as per Israeli media reports, soldiers found a safe with millions of shekels and dollars in cash. The tunnel in question was in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, according to the IDF.&nbsp;

Hagari said that the video, obtained from a surveillance camera, was filmed on October 10 and shows that Sinwar “escaped with his family underground to one of the safe accommodation complexes he had built in advance".

The clip shows a man, Sinwar’s brother Ibrahim, leading the Hamas chief, along with his wife and children, through the tunnel, reported Times of Israel.

IDF releases video of Hamas leader Sinwar in Gaza tunnel with family days after October 7 attack

Iran on Tuesday (Feb 13) said that it has launched long-range ballistic missiles from a warship for the first time.&nbsp;The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that the launch was from the Shahid Mahdavi, which is Iran's multi-purpose heavy warship.&nbsp;This will anger the Western nations which have repeatedly raised concerns over Iran's missile programme.&nbsp;

It said that the launch during naval manoeuvres involved firing two ballistic missiles capable of striking targets up to 1,700 kilometres (1,050 miles) away.&nbsp;

According to the report, the US president no longer views the Israeli PM as a ‘productive partner’ who can be ‘influenced even in private’.&nbsp;

Therefore, ‘mounting frustration’ with Netanyahu has prompted some of Biden’s aides to urge him to be more publicly critical of the Israeli PM, reported the WaPo, citing six people familiar with the conversations&nbsp;who spoke on&nbsp;condition of anonymity.&nbsp;

Just last week, on Wednesday (Feb 7), Netanyahu rejected Hamas’ latest offer for a ceasefire and insisted that the country’s total victory in Gaza is within reach, a move that reportedly angered US officials.&nbsp;

The rejection also came after the Israeli PM held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken who was in the midst of his 5th visit to the region to negotiate the&nbsp;new peace agreement which was turned down by Netanyahu.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the social media giant has told some civil society groups that 'Zionist' at times is being used as a hurtful substitute for 'Jews' or 'Israelis'.

In a statement Meta spokeswoman Erin McPike said that the company doesn't allow&nbsp;people to attack others on the basis of religion or nationality.

However, not everyone is okay with the move. It has triggered an alarm among digital rights activists and pro-Palestinians who have alleged that the group would stifle legitimate political critiques of the Israeli government, its armed forces and Zionism, during the ongoing war.

Nadim Nashif, co-founder of the pro-Palestinian digital rights group 7amleh said that "Zionism is an ideology. It's not a race."

"As I told them, in my opinion, this is a slippery slope. From there, you can remove a lot of content that is criticizing Israel and Zionism that is part of legitimate political discussion."

Spain and Germany also warned of a "humanitarian catastrophe" if the plan went ahead.

"We call for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, respect for international humanitarian law and the entry of aid," Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares posted on X.

As attacks disrupt Red Sea shipping, Houthi leader claims 'real victory'

News agency AFP quoted a source within Lebanese security apparatus to say that the official was "seriously wounded and a companion was also injured" in the strike in the city of Nabatiyeh, some way from the border region that has seen almost daily exchanges of fire since the Israel-Hamas war broke out last October."

National News Agency, the state-run news outlet in Lebanon said that a vehicle caught fire after being hit by a missile fired from Israeli drone. The drone reportedly entered Nabatiyeh at around 4:15 pm (1415 GMT).

AFP reported that Israel military was "examining reports" of the strike.
