Virat Kohli says he has "never felt so calm" going into an Indian Premier League season as the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper chases an elusive title in the Twenty20 tournament.

But the world's leading ODI batsman expects a turnaround from a team containing big names such as South Africa's explosive AB de Villiers and Australia's big-hitting white ball skipper Aaron Finch.

"I (have) never felt so calm going into a season before," Kohli said during an interview posted on his side's YouTube channel on Monday ahead of the tournament beginning September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

"He (de Villiers) is coming from a very different space and he is enjoying his life and is very relaxed and fit as ever. I feel I am in a much better space, much more balanced, when it comes to environment of (the) IPL.

"Aaron Finch is someone who has experience of playing international cricket."

Kohli has captained Bangalore since 2013 and said the tournament being played outside India because of coronavirus meant his side would be "disconnecting with things that have happened in the past and not taking that baggage, as we have done that way too many times.

"Just because we have a bunch of players that are so skilled... people have had so much expectation," he admitted.

Bangalore's other imported talent includes South African pace bowler Chris Morris and little known Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe.

"Morris brings in a lot of balance," said Kohli. "Some of the youngsters we have picked this time are quite exciting too like Josh Philippe, a very exciting player."

The IPL will be played across three venues within relatively close proximity -- Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi -- and Kohli feels that will lead to consistent playing conditions across the tournament.

"It (the usual home and away system in India) gets hectic, conditions change... This time, it's more of a level playing field and everything would now boil down to skill level rather than home advantage," he said.

"We have unpacked all bags and stacked clothes in the wardrobe. We go, practise, live in our own bio-bubble… It's a more settled and calm feeling."

Does he feel to be a victim of public perception so prevalent in the Indian cricket eco-system?

"I would say yes, it's a perception being tagged as a Test player and I can't do much about it," said the man who set up India's 2-1 series win in Australia with more than 500 runs in the 2018-19 away series.

"I have always said that I should get opportunities and once I get opportunities, then only I can prove myself as white ball cricketer. I have performed well in List A cricket (average of 54), also in domestic T20s (century in Mushtaq Ali Trophy). I have done well in List A games in England.

"Performance is something which I can control and I will do that. Only thing I can do is wait for my opportunity. I am more than happy to play all formats. As long as I playing the game, I will remain a student of the game as there is no end to what you can learn. Other years during IPL, Pujara is in England playing county cricket either for Derbyshire, Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire which wasn't possible due to COVID-19 pandemic.

"Disappointed 'Yes' but frustrating 'No'. I haven't been able to go to UK not because I didn't want to play or they didn't want me but because of the situation which is same for all cricketers.

"I have to understand these are tough times. It is more important to be with family and stay safe and not worry too much about not getting too much match practice. There are people, who have endured way more difficulties," he said.

Contentment is key to leading a good life and the 32-year-old with 77 Test matches and nearly 6000 runs (5840 with 18 hundreds) understands that.

"I wouldn't say that I feel like I don't have this or I don't have that. I am happy with what I have got," he said.

However, it has now emerged that the team management was not particularly happy with the 32-year-old's "conduct" during the quarantine time, something which infuriated CSK owner and former BCCI president N Srinivasan.

"In CSK, the norm is that the coach, captain and the manager get suites. However, Raina also gets a suite in any hotel that the franchise stays. It's just that his room didn't have a balcony," an IPL source told PTI.

"It was an issue but I don't think big enough to warrant a comeback (to India). There could be something more than just the scare of rising COVID-caseload in Chennai," the source added, alluding to a speculated breach of the bio-bubble by Raina.

He said given the situation, Raina could well be gone for good now not only this season but also the next IPL scheduled in April, 2021. Chennai's favourite 'Chinna Thala' may not wear the Canary yellow again.

On the speculated bio-bubble breach, the source said an apology from Raina will have little impact given that the team is looking ahead.

"I don't know about the apology part but CSK will now be eyeing to prepare Ruturaj looking at the future and Dhoni and Fleming will rejig their strategy accordingly," the source added.

End of road for Suresh Raina in CSK?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that as many as 13 personnel involed in the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a> have been tested positive for COVID-19 including two players. Earlier, there were reports that around 10 personnel have tested positive only from the Chennai Super Kings camp but there have been no sorts of confirmation regarding that.

However, BCCI has now confirmed, without naming any player or franchise, that total of 13 personnel have returned positive after the RT-PCR COVID-19 tests.

BCCI confirmed that total of 1,988 tests were carried out between August 20 and 28 out of which 13 have tested positive while adding all the affected people as well as their close contacts are asymptomatic and have been isolated from their team members. They are being monitored by IPL Medical Team.

Earlier, in what came as a massive blow, Chennai Super Kings stalwart Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 due to personel reason. And it remains to be seen if CSK opt for a replacement for 'Chinna Thala'. The exact reason for Raina pulling out of IPL 2020 is not yet known.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put in place stringent health and safety protocols for the Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 Season, which is scheduled to start from September 19th in the UAE.

Accordingly, upon landing in the UAE, all the participants have followed a mandatory testing and quarantine programme. Total of 1,988 RT-PCR COVID tests were carried out between August 20th – 28th across all participant groups in the UAE. These groups include Players, Support Staff, Team Management, BCCI Staff, IPL Operational team, Hotel and ground transport Staff.

13 personnel have tested positive of which 2 are players. All the affected personnel as well as their close contacts are asymptomatic and have been isolated from other team members. They are being monitored by the IPL Medical Team.

As per the IPL 2020 Health and Safety Protocols testing on all participants will be conducted regularly throughout the IPL 2020 Season.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that as many as 13 personnel involed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 have been tested positive for COVID-19 including two players. Earlier, there were reports that around 10 personnel have tested positive only from the Chennai Super Kings camp but there have been no sorts of confirmation regarding that. However, BCCI has now confirmed, without naming any player or franchise, that total of 13 personnel have returned positive after the RT-PCR COVID-19 tests. BCCI confirmed that total of 1,988 tests were carried out between August 20 and 28 out of which 13 have tested positive while adding all the affected people as well as their close contacts are asymptomatic and have been isolated from their team members. They are being monitored by IPL Medical Team. Earlier, in what came as a massive blow, Chennai Super Kings stalwart Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 due to personel reason. And it remains to be seen if CSK opt for a replacement for 'Chinna Thala'. The exact reason for Raina pulling out of IPL 2020 is not yet known. Accordingly, upon landing in the UAE, all the participants have followed a mandatory testing and quarantine programme. Total of 1,988 RT-PCR COVID tests were carried out between August 20th – 28th across all participant groups in the UAE. These groups include Players, Support Staff, Team Management, BCCI Staff, IPL Operational team, Hotel and ground transport Staff. 13 personnel have tested positive of which 2 are players. All the affected personnel as well as their close contacts are asymptomatic and have been isolated from other team members. They are being monitored by the IPL Medical Team. When a Future Group official was contacted, he refused comment but industry insiders confirmed that the pullout was on cards because of the financial health of the company.

"Future Group has been in bad shape since the start of COVID-19. It was bound to happen that they wouldn't have been able to spend Rs 40 crore to be a part of BCCI's central sponsorship pool. Hence, the pull-out is not a surprise," the source said.

"Right now, the Future Group is going through a restructuring phase and there are talks with multi-national conglomerates about its potential takeover in the next few weeks. So sponsoring sporting events at the moment wasn't top priority for Future Group," he added.

It is learnt that education-technology company Unacademy, which lost the IPL title sponsorship bid to fantasy gaming firm Dream11, is in line to become one of the official sponsors along with credit card payment app Cred. As of now, the IPL website shows only four sponsors.

They are Dream11 as title sponsors along with Tata Motors (Altroz), PayTM and Ceat tyres.

The BCCI normally shares half of its central sponsorship kitty with the franchises.

However, with the title sponsorship amount reduced to nearly half (from Rs 440 crore from Vivo to Rs 222 crore of Dream11) and the subsequent pull-outs, the teams are set to get lesser than what they were earning earlier.

"We know it's not an ideal situation but you can't blame BCCI for this. There is a financial crisis. If franchises have earned and made gains during good times, they understand and stand by BCCI during troubled times," a senior official of a franchise said.

COVID-19 Impact: Future Group no longer part of IPL's central pool of sponsorship

The new IPL title sponsor to replace Chinese mobile phone company Vivo will hold the rights for only a four-and-a-half-month period and the highest bid may not necessarily end up being the winning one, the BCCI stated on Monday.

Vivo, which had a Rs 440 crore per year deal for five seasons, has suspended its partnership with the Board due to the Sino-India border stand-off. BCCI floated the tender invite for a new sponsor on Monday

Secretary Jay Shah announced a 13-point clause for submission of the bids from interested "third parties" and the winner will be announced on August 18. The last date for submission of bids is August 14.

"The Rights are available for the period from August 18, 2020 to December 31, 2020," the BCCI press release stated.

"Details regarding the Rights and product categories in which the Rights are available will be provided only to parties who submit the EOI and are found eligible," it stated.

The BCCI also stated that bidding the highest amount may not fetch the rights for a company if the board is not satisfied with its plans on commercialising its most precious property.

"...It is clarified that BCCI shall not be obliged to award the Rights to the third party which indicates willingness to pay the highest fees in the course of discussions/ negotiations with BCCI after submitting an EOI," the BCCI stated.

"BCCI's decision in this regard will also depend on a number of other relevant factors, including but not limited to, the manner in which the third party intends to exploit the Rights and the potential impact of the same on brand IPL...," the BCCI release stated.

"...(it) will be examined/evaluated by BCCI in the course of discussions/negotiations with interested third parties who submit an EOI," it added.

It can now be safely assumed that BCCI will get a lesser valuation for a four-month period compared to Vivo which had the rights for a bigger duration.

According to the BCCI's norms for accepting the 'Expression of Interest" (EOI), "...Turnover of the interested third party must be over Rs 300 Crore (Indian Rupees Three Hundred Crores only) as per the last audited accounts."

The audited accounts need to be submitted with the bid.

The BCCI also made it clear that middle-men or agents cannot enter the bidding process and "any such bids will be cancelled."

"It is clarified that marketing agency/agents are not eligible to bid and any bid submitted by a marketing agency/agent shall be rejected at the outset."

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Group is among those who have expressed interest in bidding for the rights.

“The break from playing has been refreshing to be honest. We have come back strong and are well into pre-season training with our states. As a bowler our loads are not at their peak but we are working towards getting ready for a tour of the UK in a few weeks. We will have some time in the UK before matches start. We have done a lot of work in pre-season, we will be ready,” Kane Richardson told WION in an exclusive interview.&nbsp;

England’s white-ball side has already played a three-match ODI series against Ireland and are scheduled to play a T20I series against Pakistan before the world champions take on their fiercest rivals in the limited-overs series in September. But Kane is of the view that Australia will be fresh and ready to go against the Eoin Morgan-led side.&nbsp;

“Everybody is in the same situation globally. England have had longer together but we will be fresh and ready to go.” 
After the series against England, Kane will be joining Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2020 in the United Arab Emirates. The 29-year-old is super excited to join the Virat Kohli-led franchise as he said IPL is a great opportunity to play and learn against the best players in the world.&nbsp;

Patel confirmed that the BCCI sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the board will work together to stage the tournament successfully.

"Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament," Khaleej Times quoted Patel as saying.

As per the report, ECB had sent the proposal to the Indian board in April about hosting IPL 2020, which was originally scheduled to commence on March 29 in India. However, the cash-rich tournament was postponed indefinitely amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patel said that the training camps will be held in the UAE in a bio-secure environment with “the teams needing at least three to four weeks to prepare for the tournament.”&nbsp;

Earlier on Friday, Patel confirmed that the 2020 edition of IPL will commence on September 19 in the UAE and continue till November 8.

ICC Meeting: Exploration of contingency plan for T20 World Cup to continue until next month

Robin Uthappa emerged as one promising batsman in Indian cricket. “On days, I would just be sitting there and would think to myself on the count of three, I’m going to run and jump off of the balcony but something kind of just held me back,” he recalled.

“...for some reason there, no matter what I did or how hard I worked in the nets, I was just not able to score a run off my bat. I would spend hours in the nets to get it right but that would just not happen,” he said.

“Some part of me was actually not willing to accept that I had a problem with myself...I think sometimes we don’t accept the wrong and are unwilling to do so and it is really important to have the acknowledgement.”

"I lived in the US for several years and became an American football fan. Home games and away games are big events there because the crowd becomes your twelfth man. So what visiting teams used to do when they practised was blast the crowd noise on the speakers, just to get used it. The noise can be deafening in matches," he said.
