<p>Earlier in March this year, Meta experienced a technical issue that resulted in login disruptions for a significant number of Facebook and Instagram users.</p>

<p>According to the Downdetector data, there were over 18,000 reports of users facing problems with accessing the Instagram application.</p>

<p>The website collates status reports from several sources, including users.</p>

<p>The internet monitoring group NetBlocks also shared a post on X informing that the two social media websites were currently experiencing ‘international outages’.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Several sources showed 70 per cent of login issues, 19 per cent facing issues with the app and 11 per cent of users facing server connection issues.</p>

Instagram down! Popular Meta platform suffers outage again, third within a month

Speaking to the news agency Reuters on Sunday (May 21), a spokesperson from Meta Platforms Inc said, "Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted."</p>

<p>On Twitter, several users complained about Instagram not working and later Instagram's PR team tweeted, " Instagram is back! Sorry for the trouble - we had a brief outage earlier and resolved the issue that caused it.</p>

<p>Meta did not disclose how many people were affected by the outage. But outage tracking website Downdetector showed over 100,000 incidents in the United States, over 56,000 in Britain, and 24,000 incidents in Canada.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the peak of the outage, over 180,000 users reported issues with accessing Instagram.&nbsp;</p>

Citing sources, the news agency Bloomberg reported on Friday that Meta was testing the project with celebrities and influencers. According to one of the sources, the app was secretly available to select creators for months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lia Haberman, who teaches social and influencer marketing at UCLA, published a screenshot of an early app description. Haberman said the text-based app would be separate from Instagram but would allow people to connect accounts, and might debut as soon as June.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It may eventually be compatible with other Twitter competitor apps, including Mastodon, according to Haberman’s screenshot.</p>

Instagram back online for most users after it suffers global outage

<p>Thousands of users of Meta-owned Instagram faced difficulty accessing their accounts late Wednesday as the platform suffered a worldwide outage, according to Downdetector.com, a website that tracks service outages.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Over 27,000 incidents of users facing issues with the social media platform were reported. Over 50 per cent of complaints were regarding server connection outages while 20 per cent were about login issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some 2,000 users were affected in the UK and more than 1,000 reported facing the issue in India and Australia. The outage lasted for hours before the issue was sorted. It is still unclear if the incident was caused by any technical issue or any other factor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Netizens quickly took to Twitter to report the outage with one noting, "I think Instagram is down. All my other apps are working fine but Insta is saying it "can't refresh my feed" and "something went wrong please try again" but all my apps and shit are working."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, another said, "I got like a decade worth of posts on the gram. Slight fear thinking I got banned somehow."</p>

<p>The new round of firings was foreshadowed by Meta CEO Mark&nbsp;Zuckerberg himself, who hinted that more such layoffs were in the offing, as the company attempted to make itself leaner at the base level.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I obviously can’t sit here and promise you that nothing will happen in the future because it’s a very volatile environment,” said Zuckerberg before adding, “But what I can say is that for where we are right now, that’s what I foresee.”</p>

Over 50 per cent of complaints were regarding server connection outages while 20 per cent were about login issues. Some 2,000 users were affected in the UK and more than 1,000 reported facing the issue in India and Australia. The outage lasted for hours before the issue was sorted. It is still unclear if the incident was caused by any technical issue or any other factor. Netizens quickly took to Twitter to report the outage with one noting, "I think Instagram is down. All my other apps are working fine but Insta is saying it "can't refresh my feed" and "something went wrong please try again" but all my apps and shit are working."
