While Delhi's Prithvi Shaw (55-ball 99) almost took the team home against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rahul (57-ball 71) finished the job for Punjab against Mumbai.

Playing on home turf, Rahul, who had failed in his first two matches, played a controlled innings while Gayle (40) and Mayank Agarwal (43) also chipped in with crucial runs to help Punjab comfortably chase down the 177-run target, set by Mumbai.

Gayle was his usual self and batted in the manner only he can as 36 of his 40-run knock came in boundaries and sixes.

Rahul has the ability to steady the innings and play sheet anchor's role and Gayle can puncture opposition camp's plans to control the run flow, something that Delhi would be worried about.

IPL 2019: Ashwin-led Punjab all set to face Rabada's yorkers on home turf

Rajasthan and Bangalore will lock horns on Tuesday. Both the teams are yet to win a single match in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.

As the Royals will host Bangalore, both the teams will be desperate to register their first win of the season and get off the mark.

Both the teams have played three matches so far and have lost all the games. Rajasthan, who have come close to victory on all three occasions, have failed to tighten the screws when it mattered most. In all three matches, they were in a good position but could not grab the moments, losing to Punjab, Hyderabad and Chennai respectively.

Rajasthan boast of star players such as Steve Smith, Joss Buttler and Ben Stokes but still have failed to live up to the expectations.

The likes of Sanju Samson, who had hit a first ton of this IPL and Rahane have been good.

Rahul Tripathi also looked impressive during his 39 against Chennai but Smith and Stokes are yet to set the tournament on fire.

Bangalore, on the other hand, have had a disastrous start to the season. Against Chennai, they faltered with the bat while against Hyderabad the bowlers looked hapless.

What also stands out is the manner in which the Bangalore have been beaten- 7 wickets against Chennai and 118 runs against Hydebarad. Virat Kohli had conceded that the defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon was one of their worst losses.

Another area of concern for Bangalore is Virat Kohli’s record against Rajasthan. Kohli’s batting average against the Royals is 21.27, his lowest against all IPL teams.

Delhi won a spectacular super over to beat Kolkata at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Saturday. But fans went crazy when they found something suspicious during the game.

According to several Twitter users, the game was fixed as Delhi batsman Rishabh Pant had announced the result of the ball in advance. Even in the videos posted on social, Pant can be heard informing the bowler that this particular ball will go for a four.

After the ball was delivered it actually went for a four, hit by Robin Uthappa. The incident happened in the third over when Kolkata were playing at 16 for the loss of one wicket.

That particular game also saw Punjab's opener Chris Gayle in prime form as he blasted 79 off just 47 balls while Sarfaraz Khan remained unbeaten on 46 off 29, giving the Ashwin-led side a boost in the batting department.

Andre Russell's sensational 17-ball 48 and Robin Uthappa's 67 not out and Nitish Rana's 63 left Punjab bowlers in a daze. Even the likes of Ashwin and speedster Mohammed Shami did not have an answer to Kolkata's blitzkrieg.

For Punjab, opener Lokesh Rahul is yet to hit his top form, managing just five runs from previous two outings, and he will be hoping to get back to his best in Mohali.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have come into this match, having notched up a 6-run win over Bangalore, with India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah stamping his class.

For Mumbai, Rohit Sharma (48 of 33) and Hardik Pandya's 14-ball 32 stood out as they set up a target of 188 for Bangalore to chase.

Mumbai were almost blown away by AB de Villiers' 41-ball 70 not out, but the Rohit Sharma-led side won the match under controversial circumstances with the umpires failing to call Lasith Malinga final delivery a no-ball which left India and Bangalore captain Virat Kohli seething in anger.

Bumrah impressed in the game against Bangalore, returning with figures of 4-0-20-3, something most bowlers will envy in this format of the game.

Yuvraj Singh, who started the season on a classy note by hitting a sublime half-century against Delhi Capitals and managing 23 against RCB, will be eager to make a mark in Mohali, which happens to be his 'home ground'.

For Punjab, Chris Gayle, who is in prime form as he blasted 79 off just 47 balls in their campaign first match, is the key man in the batting department. While other batsmen Sarfaraz Khan, Mayank Aggarwal and David Miller impressed with their batting. But the opener KL Rahul needs to focus on his form and his batting was poor in both the previous matches. The two rival sides boast of some star players in their line-up and each team will hope to its best when it matters.
Opting to bat, Rajasthan posted a mammoth total of 198 runs with the help of Sanju Samson's second IPL century but his ton went in vain, as chasing a mammoth 199-run target, Warner set up the platform for Hyderabad with a breezy 69 off 37 balls and together with Jonny Bairstow (45 off 28) added a century stand for the opening wicket to spoil Rajasthan's day.

Apart from Warner, skipper Kane Williamson (14) and Vijay Shankar (35 off 15) played aggressively to bring down the equation within reach but three quick wickets, that too in consecutive balls of Shreyas Gopal (3/27) in the 16th over, changed the complexion of the game.

Chris Gayle becomes first batsman to hit 300 IPL sixes

The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir hailed Sanju Samson, who struck his second Indian Premier League ton against Hyderabad on Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, for his brilliant innings.

Though his century went in vain, as Hyderabad chased down a mammoth 199-run target and defeated Rajasthan by five wickets.

Minutes after the match was concluded, Gambhir tweeted, "I normally don't like to talk about individuals in cricket. But seeing his skills I am glad to note that Sanju Samson is currently the best Wicketkeeper batsman in India."

Gambhir also said that Samson should be in India's England bound plane for the upcoming World Cup and he "should be batting number four" in the World Cup.

Samson didn't spare a single Hyderabad's bowler and remained unbeaten on 102 that came off just 55 balls with the help of 10 fours and four sixes. It was Samson's second IPL ton. His first century came in 2017.

The 24-year-old Samsom, who hails from Trivandrum, Kerala made his Twenty20 International debut for India against Zimbabwe in 2015.

While Gambhir's comments for Samson have upset MS Dhoni's fans as according to the spectators, Dhoni remains the trusted and efficient wicketkeeper for India.

It is believed that he will keep the stumps in the upcoming cricket World Cup in England and Wales for India. .

IPL 2019, Punjab vs Mumbai: Key players to watch out for

Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli Thursday slammed the on-field umpires for ignoring the no-ball Mumbai pacer Lasith Malinga had bowled on the last ball of the match.

If it is a game of margins, I don't know what is happening. They should have been more sharp and careful out there. When they were 145 for 7, we should have done better," Kohli said.

'We playing at IPL level, not club cricket,' Virat Kohli to on-field umpires for missing a no-ball

An umpiring howler off the last deliver cost Bangalore dearly as Mumbai pipped the hosts by six runs largely due to Jasprit Bumrah's brilliant spell at the death in an IPL encounter on Thursday.

Needing six to take the game into Super Over, Lasith Malinga's final delivery to Shivam Dube was a no-ball that was missed by the on-field umpires as Bangalore managed 181 for 5 in reply to 187 for 8 by Mumbai Indians.

What hurt them more was AB de Villiers, who nearly took his team to victory with an unbeaten 70 off 41 balls would have faced the free-hit. Both umpires C Nandan and ICC Elite Panel's S Ravi bungled completely leaving Virat Kohli seething in anger.

But nothing can be taken away from fit-again Bumrah's mastery at the death as he singlehandedly won it for Mumbai with superb 17th and 19th overs.

During chase, Kohli signalled his intentions at the beginning itself hitting Jasprit Bumrah for three consecutive boundaries in one over. Hardik Pandya was slashed through the point and cover driven for successive boundaries.

Mayank Markande, who dismissed Parthiv Patel (31 off 22 balls) with a googly was hit for a straight boundary by Kohli. On the day, Kohli became the second man after Suresh Raina to complete 5000 runs in Indian Premier League.

De Villiers, who got a reprieve when Yuvraj Singh failed to anticipate a sharp chance in the slip cordon, got his act together and dispatched Markande into the stands. De Villiers then got his second six off Lasith Malinga to finally get into the groove.

With the partnership one short of 50-run mark, Bumrah came back for his second spell and bowled a sharp bouncer and the Bangalore skipper couldn't maintain his balance trying to execute a pull-shot as Hardik Pandya completed the formalities.

However, De Villiers, who was set by then was in a mood to take Malinga to the cleaners. A shadow of his old self, Malinga was missing length most of the times and two huge sixes in the 16th over of the Lankan slinger saw De Villiers get the equation down to 41 off 24 balls.

But Bumrah kept Mumbai in the match giving away only one run in the 17th over as 40 was required off the last three overs.

Put into bat, Hardik muscled a couple into the stands and one out of sight to help Mumbai Indians recover from a middle-order collapse and post a decent 187 for 8.

Pandya hit three sixes and two fours in his unbeaten 32 off 14 balls after Yuzvendra Chahal (4/38 in 4 overs) reduced Mumbai from a comfortable 124 for 2 to 147 for 7. MI lost five wickets in a space of 3.3 overs for only 23 runs.

This was after a vintage Yuvraj Singh was raising visions of a six sixes over with three maximums in Chahal's 14th over. However, he wasn't fourth time lucky as Chahal's courage to maintain flighting the ball yielded results.

Chahal then removed Suryakumar Yadav (38 off 24 balls) and Kieron Pollard in quick succession to bring RCB right back in the match.

It was then left to Hardik Pandya to score the bulk of the 30 runs in the final two overs to take MI to a fighting total on a placid batting track.

In fact, Hardik's third and final six went out of the stadium as he gestured to the dressing rooms pointing his bulging biceps.

However, at the beginning it looked like Mumbai would cross the 200-run mark as Rohit Sharma (48 off 33 balls) and Quinton de Kock (23 off 20) added 54 for the opening stand but it was foiled by Chahal's lion-hearted bowling.

However, at the beginning it looked like Mumbai would cross the 200-run mark as Rohit Sharma (48 off 33 balls) and Quinton de Kock (23 off 20) added 54 for the opening stand but it was foiled by Chahal's lion-hearted bowling.

Andre Russell's second consecutive blistering knock made all the difference as Kolkata beat Punjab by 28 runs in their IPL match here on Wednesday.

Russell, who hit a sensational 19-ball 49 against Hyderabad in Kolkata's previous match, bludgeoned his way to a 17-ball 48 to propel the home side to a massive 218 for 4 after being sent into bat. He later took two wickets for 21 runs to help Kolkata restrict Punjab to 190 for 4 and emerge as the undisputed star of the match.

When on three, Russell was yorked by Mohammed Shami off the last delivery of the 17th over but to the horror of Punjab, the umpire signalled a no-ball as the visiting team was found to have one fielder short of the mandatory four inside the 30-yard circle.

The 30-year-old Russell made full use of the reprieve as he hammered five sixes and three fours from the next 11 balls he faced to send the Eden Gardens crowd berserk. He was dismissed in the final over.

Kolkata made 56 runs in 19 balls after the no-ball incident to score their highest IPL total at Eden Gardens. The Kolkata innings was lashed with 17 sixes.

Russell though was not the top-scorer for Kolkata. Robin Uthappa took that honour, remaining not out on 67 off 50 balls while Nitish Rana was the one who set the Eden Gardens on fire before Russell came out with a 34-ball 63.

The much-anticipated contest between two big-hitting Jamaicans from the rival teams, however, ended in a damp squib with Russell winning hands down against his much senior compatriot Chris Gayle.

It was left to Mayank Agarwal and David Miller to bring back Punjab into the game. The duo did well, raising 50 runs in 4.9 overs and stealing 19 runs from the 12th over bowled by Sunil Narine.

There was also some drama in store in the sixth over when the game was halted for a while with Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik and Robin Uthappa engaging in an animated discussion with the umpires after Punjab were awarded five runs from an overthrow.

IPL 2019: Mumbai induct West Indies' Alzarri Joseph in place of injured Adam Milne

Hours before Bangalore host Mumbai at M Chinnaswamy stadium for the seventh game of the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), a bowler from the 'red brigade' was spotted having a similar action as of World no 1 ODI bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

For the uninitiated, Bumrah is the leading bowler of Mumbai and will take on Virat Kohli-led IPL team, later in the evening.

From his unique action to his accurate bowling, Bumrah has created a name for himself with many young bowlers trying to adapt his style of bowling.

In a video posted by the 'Paltan' where they have the video of Bumrah and the Bangalore bowler side by side, the similarity between their actions is evident.

The run-up of the two bowlers is exactly the same and while Bumrah's hands are closer to his body while running down to bowl, the Bangalore bowler's hands are a bit stretched.

While it is still unclear who the bowler in the Bangalore nets is, it will be interesting to see if the Virat Kohli inducts him in the team in the future and unleash the mystery.

Bumrah, who was Mumbai find, debuted for them back in 2013 and six years down the line, he is leading the bowling attack for India.

Both Bangalore and Mumbai would be eager to register their first win as the two were thrashed by Chennai and Delhi respectively in their campaign openers.

Mumbai vs Bangalore: From Malinga's arrival to Chahal's form, key players to watch out for

Shane Watson and Suresh Raina made batting look easy on a lifeless track as Chennai coasted to a six-wicket victory over Delhi in an Indian Premier League encounter on Tuesday.

Shikhar Dhawan's painstaking half-century was the only silver lining in Delhi's sub-par total of 147 for six which the defending champions overtook with two balls to spare.

The scoreline might suggest that it was a close game but Chennai were always in control of the chase despite a lot of balls being wasted by Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the back end of the innings.

When Delhi batted first, run-scoring looked an arduous job with a middle-order collapse dashing hopes of a big total.

When Chennai started their chase, it was expected that the slowness will be a factor but it seemed Watson (44 off 26 balls) and Suresh Raina (30 off 16 balls) were batting on a different track. They showed positive intent which was singularly lacking in Dhawan and Co.

They hit eight fours and four sixes between them to add 52 runs in only four overs and there was no recovery from that onslaught.

Ishant Sharma (0/28 in 3 overs) bowled too many length balls which were driven with disdain and short ones were cut ferociously. Five boundaries off Ishant's in three overs was just the start that Chennai needed.

Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra got a couple of wickets but mostly bowled hittable length with three maximums coming in his spell, including the decisive six from Dhoni (32 no off 35 balls).

Kagiso Rabada, who was impressive in the first match, was erratic on the day and an altercation with Watson only disturbed his concentration.
By the time Watson was out, it was a formality for the CSK to record their second victory but Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav (27) made an easy chase look difficult.

Earlier, Dhawan played the role of sheet anchor in his 51 off 47 balls that had seven boundaries but unfortunately failed to accelerate during the final overs. This left the home team at least 30 runs short of a fighting score which proved to be decisive in the end.

From a comfortable 120 for 2 with the dangerous Rishabh Pant at the crease, CSK seized the momentum, effecting a middle-order collapse. Capitals lost four wickets for seven runs in just 1.5 overs. From 118 for 2 after 15 overs, the last five overs yielded only 29 runs.

With the ball stopping and coming, Capitals batsmen found Dwayne Bravo's (3/33 in 4 overs) variations difficult to handle. Ravindra Jadeja (1/23 in 4 overs) also made life difficult in the middle overs and Harbhajan Singh (0/30 in 4 overs) also bowled as many as 10 dot balls.

Dhawan, however, continued to hold one end up and hit the occasional boundary in between, even as stroke making became increasingly difficult.
Pant (25 off 12 balls), during his 41-run stand with Dhawan, tried to negate the pitch factor but did not last till the death overs.

He did reach out to a short ball from Harbhajan, dispatching it over long off for a six. In the next over, his short arm pull off Dwayne Bravo was taken by Shardul Thakur at deep square leg boundary.

With Colin Ingram (2) and Keemo Paul (0) also being dismissed cheaply, followed by Dhawan, the expectations of a 175-plus total withered away.
