David Warner signed off from the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League with a phenomenal performance with the bat as Hyderabad defeated Punjab by 45 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Monday.

Warner, who opens for Hyderabad, scored 81 off 56 balls to take the side's total to mammoth 212 for 6 in their 20 overs against Punjab.

The hosts produced a clinical performance with the ball to restrict to 167 for 8 to consolidate their fourth on the points table.

It was Warner's last game as the batsman will now head back home to Australia to start his preparations for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales which starts from May 30.

Warner's wife Candice, who stood by her husband through the tough times when he faced one-year ban for his alleged role in ball-tampering, wrote an emotional message on Twitter after her husband played yet another and last match-winning knock for Hyderabad this year.

"Outstanding finish to your ipl season @davidwarner31. The girls and I are forever proud of you. Your work ethic and your never give up attitude is inspirational. We love you," Candice wrote on Twitter.

Punjab opener KL Rahul defended his strategy of playing slow initially while chasing a mammoth 213 against Hyderabad in the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl-2019">Indian Premier League (IPL)</a>, saying one between him and Chris Gayle was supposed to go all out upfront while the other tried to take the game deep.

Chasing a huge total, Rahul (79 off 56; 4x4, 5x6) made a valiant effort with the bat but lacked support from the other end as <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-brilliant-david-warner-hands-hyderabad-45-run-win-over-punjab-214615">Punjab were restricted to 167 for eight in their 20 overs.&nbsp;</a>

"That's been the team plan. One of me or Chris Gayle look to bat 15-16 overs as deep as possible so the others can play around," said Rahul at the post-match press conference.

"That doesn't mean that you don't play your shots. I tried my shots a few times, it didn't come off, few went for boundaries, few hit the fielders."

Rahul though finished with a strike-rate of 141.07 but at one stage he had just made 39 off 36 deliveries when the required rate was well above 15 runs per over.

The 27-year-old explained that he knew he could make up for it in the back end had he stayed on the crease in the middle overs.

"Not always as a batsman you will get off to an amazing start, you don't get a 20-ball 50 each time. Sometimes when you get off to a start like that you have got to make it count but sometimes when you are not finding your touch you have to hang in there. I know that if I am set I can make up for it," said Rahul.

He ruled that the lack of partnerships hampered his team.

"We couldn't get enough batting partnerships. We were batting well, unfortunate that each time we tried to take a chance we found a fielder."

Rahul also backed Mujeeb ur Rahman, who conceded 66 runs in his four overs, highest in this year's IPL.

"Obviously, anybody who goes for that many runs will be disappointed. Sometimes it is not your day. In T20 cricket that happens. Everyday one of the bowlers will get targeted and go for runs.

"He is a young guy, he has a lot of skill. This is the first time he has gone for so many runs. Before this he has done really really well for Kings XI and yeah one-off game this happens to every bowler. The best of bowlers will get hit for 50-60 runs, you just have to look to bounce back," said Rahul.

Punjab used only five bowlers despite going for runs and Rahul said that injuries to a lot of their key players prevented them from going for the sixth bowling option.

"It is not an excuse but there are a few injuries in the team which doesn't allow us to go with a sixth bowling option or play an all-rounder," Rahul clarified.

"When you are going in with five bowlers, all of them have to bowl four overs each. There is not really a choice. When you have gone with five full-time bowlers, you have to trust them. You expect them to deliver most times but some times it does not happen," he added.

IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma fined 15 per cent match fees for code of conduct breach

Embattled skipper Dinesh Karthik says he is "aware of bickering and back-biting", his comments coming in the backdrop of speculations around leadership and batting order in Kolkata.

Kolkata&nbsp;snapped a six-match losing streak with a 34-run win over Mumbai at the Eden Gardens Sunday, days after questions were raised about Andre Russell's batting position, with the West Indian power-hitter himself expressing a desire to bat higher at No. 4.

"It's a high-pressure sport, a high octane tournament, you've got to make sure everybody's in a great space, give them the best chance to do well and stay healthy," Karthik said at the post-match presentation.&nbsp;

"A lot of bickering and back-biting can go on in these sorts of situations. I'm very aware of it and (I) make sure nothing like that happens.

"At the end of the day, it's a game. You play the best that you can. You need to keep a smile. You need to be nice to others. Everybody's trying hard."

Regarding Russell, who has made incredible hitting his favourite pastime, the keeper-batsman was impressed with his maturity.

"Russell is a great player, he's a special player and it's good to see him grow as a player. The maturity he's showing is great to see.

"I was just talking about the same to him. These balls cost a lot and we need to ask him to keep calm. We live another day, that's important and the crowd has been fantastic," Karthik said.

Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma said he was not too worried about how his bowlers will come back from the onslaught at the hands of Russell and Shubman Gill.

"This is a learning for us. We will find some answers going forward. Today (Sunday) was a testing time for us, but I am not really worried how the bowling unit will come back from this," Rohit said after his team conceded 232 runs at the Eden Gardens.

"We have to regroup quickly now, we are playing two home games and know the conditions well.&nbsp;

Embattled skipper Dinesh Karthik says he is "aware of bickering and back-biting", his comments coming in the backdrop of speculations around leadership and batting order in Kolkata. Kolkata snapped a six-match losing streak with a 34-run win over Mumbai at the Eden Gardens Sunday, days after questions were raised about Andre Russell's batting position, with the West Indian power-hitter himself expressing a desire to bat higher at No. 4. "It's a high-pressure sport, a high octane tournament, you've got to make sure everybody's in a great space, give them the best chance to do well and stay healthy," Karthik said at the post-match presentation. "A lot of bickering and back-biting can go on in these sorts of situations. I'm very aware of it and (I) make sure nothing like that happens. "At the end of the day, it's a game. You play the best that you can. You need to keep a smile. You need to be nice to others. Everybody's trying hard." Regarding Russell, who has made incredible hitting his favourite pastime, the keeper-batsman was impressed with his maturity. "We have to regroup quickly now, we are playing two home games and know the conditions well. As a team, we have done some right things and we have to believe in our abilities. You got to stay positive and look forward to the next game," the India player said. He praised Hardik Pandya for his blazing 91 off 34 balls, which nearly pulled off a win for Mumbai.

Andre Russell, aka 'Dre Russ', said that he like being hailed as a superhero by the fans. Russell has been magnificent in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League, amassing 486 runs playing at a strike rate of 207.69, what makes his form extraordinary is the number of sixes he hit, which is 50.&nbsp;

He became only the second player to hit 50 sixes in an IPL season, matching the achievement of compatriot Chris Gayle.&nbsp;

Gayle smashed 59 sixes in the 2012 season before hitting 51 the following year while playing for Bangalore and Russell listed the attributes that have left him with a chance of bettering those figures.&nbsp;

With his match-winning and entertaining knocks, Russell has become a cricket sensation among Indian fans and Twitter users have compared him with several Bollywood's reel icons, like 'Baahubali'.&nbsp;

IPL 2019: Eying playoff berth, Hyderabad to take on Punjab

Rajasthan skipper Steve Smith wants to end his Indian Premier League 2019 campaign on a winning note against&nbsp;Bangalore on April 30 before leaving for home ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-rajasthan-beat-hyderabad-by-7-wickets-to-keep-playoff-hopes-alive-214016">Rajasthan Saturday defeated Hyderabad by seven wickets</a> to end their home campaign on a winning note and theoretically keep alive their playoff chances in the ongoing IPL.&nbsp;

To stay in contention for a playoff berth, Rajasthan first must win their remaining two away games against Bangalore and Delhi&nbsp;on May 4 and then hope for favourable results from other matches.&nbsp;

"For us it's just about going on winning and then we'll see what happens. I've got one more match in Bangalore, so it'll be nice to finish off on a winning note, and hopefully the boys can win in Delhi too," Smith said at the post-match presentation ceremony.&nbsp;

"But it was a good end to our home season. The boys pulled it back nicely in the middle overs. We used the change of pace well. We were able to restrict them to 160 which I thought was about par."

Smith praised Liam Livingstone (44) and Sanju Samson (48 not out) for their efforts with the bat, but lamented his side's inability to win a close game at the initial end of the tournament.&nbsp;

"Liam Livingstone opening for the first time in IPL hit the ball cleanly and Sanju finished it off well. We're playing together as a group and won those key moments.&nbsp; &nbsp;

"At the start we weren't doing it. We've had a lot of close games and fortunately last few we've been able to get over the line," he said.
Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson said Rajasthan outplayed them despite putting up a competitive total on the board.&nbsp;

"Potentially a competitive total. But they did it a little bit better than we did. They kept wickets in hand and we weren't able to get the breakthroughs we usually get," he said.&nbsp;

"Manish Pandey is playing with some nice freedom. Couple of great performances. A little bit disappointing today, but very fine lines in this game."&nbsp;

Earlier, Manish Pandey hit a quick half-century before Hyderabad witnessed a middle-order collapse to be restricted to 160 for eight. &nbsp;

Sent into bat, Hyderabad got off to a good start even after the early dismissal of skipper Kane Williamson (13) with Warner and Manish Pandey sharing 75 runs off just 50 balls for the second wicket before losing the plot after the halfway stage.&nbsp;

Nicely placed 103 for one after 12 overs, Hyderabad lost their next seven wickets for just 44 runs before Rashid (17 not out off 8) played a short cameo towards the end to take the visitors to the 160-run mark.&nbsp;

Hyderabad lost Williamson early, cleaned up by Shreyas Gopal (2/30) with a googly in the fourth over. &nbsp;

Warner and Pandey then joined hands and played aggressively to stabilise the Hyderabad innings.&nbsp;

While Pandey was the aggressor of the two, Warner played the second fiddle.&nbsp;

Pandey reached his fifty in 27 balls with the help of eight fours but just when the partnership was looking threatening, a brilliant catch by Smith sent Warner packing. &nbsp;

Warner backed away a long way and tried to slap an Oshane Thomas (2/28) short delivery over extra cover but didn't time the shot perfectly and Smith ran back and dived full length to his right to hold on to a beautiful catch.&nbsp;

Warner's innings was a struggle as he scored 37 off 32 balls but failed to hit a single boundary.&nbsp;

Pandey continued his aggressive instinct and lofted Gopal over extra cover for an exquisite boundary. But the leg-spinner hand the last laugh as he dismissed Pandey in the very next ball, brilliantly caught by Samson as Hyderabad slumped to 121 for three after 15 overs.&nbsp;

Pandey made a fine 61 off 36 balls with the help of nine boundaries.
Vijay Shankar (8) too perished cheaply, caught by Jaydev Unadkat off Varun Aaron (2/36) in the next over as the batsman went for a big shot. &nbsp;

Wickets kept on tumbling for Hyderabad after a fine first wicket stand between Warner and Pandey. The next to depart was Deepak Hooda for a duck caught one-handed off his own bowling by Unadkat (2/26) in the next over.&nbsp;

But Rashid took the onus on himself and garnered 18 runs off Aaron's final over to take Hyderabad to a respectable total.

Dhawan scored his fifth half-century and with this Dhawan surpassed Sunrisers Hyderabad`s batsman Jonny Bairstow run tally of 445 runs to become the second highest run-getter in this season of IPL with 451 runs. Iyer too scored a half-century. However, Dhawan (50) and Iyer (52) both were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession. Shortly after that, Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram too lost their wickets. Sherfane Rutherford and Axar Patel then came out to bat and both formed a crucial partnership of 46 runs which helped their side post a target of 188 for the visitors. Delhi will now visit Chennai to compete with Chennai on May 1 while Bangalore will host Rajasthan on April 30.

Rajasthan's bowler Jaydev Unadkat said that he had a tough time regaining his form which was needed to boost his confidence in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League.&nbsp;

Unadkat took two wickets giving 26 runs besides latching on to three fine catches against Hyderabad on Saturday that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-rajasthan-beat-hyderabad-by-7-wickets-to-keep-playoff-hopes-alive-214016">Rajasthan won by seven wickets</a>.&nbsp;

"I have had a tough time and I needed this to boost my own confidence," said Unadkat during the post-match presentation.&nbsp;

He also said that the management supported him during the tough times.&nbsp;"The management and Smudge (Smith) have been backing me. I needed them in such tough moments, really glad," added Unadkat.&nbsp;

Opting to bowl in a must-win match, Rajasthan first restricted Hyderabad to 160 for eight and then chased down the target in 19.1 overs.&nbsp;

By virtue of this win, Rajasthan have now moved to the sixth position in the eight-team standings with 10 points from 12 games. &nbsp;

During the post-match conference, Unadkat said, "I can't really express how much I needed this performance for my own confidence. Times have been tough but I have grown strong from this and have become better as a player. I think that's how it is."&nbsp;

"In T20 you can't always expect that as a bowler you are going to win matches for your team in every single game. As long as you are contributing in every game and you are trying to be there by reading what the batsmen wants do and not allowing him to do, that's what is important.&nbsp;

"To be honest this season I have been trying whatever I have and I am happy with the way things have gone but the figures don't suggest that," added Unadkat, who was adjudged player-of-the-match on Saturday.&nbsp;

Mahendra Singh Dhoni Friday didn't turn up for Chennai due to fever and Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma said the veteran stumper's absence came as a "massive boost" for his side en route to their <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-rohit-sharma-led-mumbai-beat-chennai-by-46-runs-213798">46-run win in an IPL match</a> on Friday.&nbsp;

Sans Dhoni, Chennai failed to chase down a 156-run target set by Mumbai, bundling out for 109, their lowest total at home.&nbsp;

"It was a massive boost that MSD (Dhoni) wasn't around. Because his presence does a lot for their team. When you don't have Dhoni when they're chasing the score, then it becomes difficult for them," Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony. &nbsp;

"I'm sure his presence was missed by CSK. But he was sick, it's not in his control either," added the right-handed batsman, who struck 67, his first fifty of the season. &nbsp;

Rohit said it was a blessing in disguise for him to lose the toss as they too would wanted to chase on what eventually turned out to be another slow Chepauk surface. "I thought it was better to lose the toss since we wanted to chase as well. But we knew whether we bat first or bowl first, we'll still have to play good cricket. We spoke about that at the start of the game, but it was a great effort by the boys since it's not easy to come here and play," he said. &nbsp;

Rohit too was mighty relived to have scored his first half-century of the season Friday.&nbsp;

"It was a satisfying innings. I was getting 30s and 40s but not getting half-centuries. At no point was I worried about my form because I was hitting the ball well. I knew the day will come, and I guess today was the day," he said.&nbsp;

Chennai stand-in skipper Suresh Raina blamed the team's batting department for the loss. &nbsp;

"We didn't bat well. We kept losing wickets every 2-3 overs, so our batsmen need to take more responsibility. Our bowling has always been good this season. We thought 155 was chaseable. But we lost too many wickets in the powerplay and middle overs," he said. &nbsp;

"We didn't rotate the strike well either. It is important to go out there and see a few balls out, and then decide which bowler you want to go after. We need to sit as a batting unit and see where we're doing wrong. We have power hitters, we have experienced batsmen, we just need to relax as a batting unit."&nbsp;

Ending the frustration of Mumbai to wrap up Chennai, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a slower ball to Vijay (38), who steered a cut-shot straight to Suryakumar Yadav at the point. Chennai known for its never-give-up attitude tried to recover as Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Santner combined 33 runs before Lasith Malinga delivered a slow ball to dismiss Bravo (20) on a return catch and Chennai folded for 109.&nbsp;

Earlier, Raina stood in for Dhoni, who missed his second match of the season this time due to fever and sent Mumbai in to bat.&nbsp;

Mumbai faced an early hiccup as Deepak Chahar got Quinton de Kock caught behind for 15. The visitors recovered well in terms of wickets in hand but the scoring remained slow. Captain Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis added 75 runs for the second wicket.&nbsp;

Rohit formed a brief partnership with Hardik, adding 21 for the fourth wicket before Santner got rid of Mumbai captain (67), who was caught by Vijay at long-on. IPL 2019: Match preview of Delhi vs Bangalore and Kolkata vs Mumbai

Star Kolkata all-rounder <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=andre+russell">Andre Russell</a> lamented the "bad decisions" taken by his team in a disappointing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl-2019">Indian Premier League</a> campaign which has seen the side lose six games in a row.&nbsp;

Russell has been the biggest impact player for Kolkata with three man-of-the-match performances from their four wins but his team has let him down.

"We have a good team but if you make bad decisions then you will always lose games and that's what we've been doing. If we had enough time, I could pinpoint a few games where if we just looked to bowl tighter in areas or bring in right bowlers at the right time, we could have won," Russell said.

"As a professional cricketer, to be in this position is not the most healthiest position. In terms of decision, we have been bowling wrongly at the wrong time, that's what been causing for us to keep losing in simple ways," Russell said on the eve of the game against Mumbai.

The Jamaican who has amassed 406 runs from 10 innings at an outrageous strike rate of 209.27 was particularly pained at Kolkata's failure to defend 176 against a "weak" Rajasthan.

"I'm disappointed that we get defeated by a team Rajasthan with the weak batting order. If we can't restrict a team for under 170 with our bowling attack then we will need miracles against a strong team like Mumbai.

"They said we have been struggling in batting. But the batting has not been struggling really. We are getting the totals that we should have defended.&nbsp;

"But when you bowl as bad as our bowlers, you don't really take catches -- we have been the worst fielding team so far."

Russell said the atmosphere in the team is not healthy as he likes to keep himself confined to his room.

"We have to make sure that we have a good practice session, do whatever it takes, put our body on the line and make sure that we take Kolkata over the line for next three games.&nbsp;

"I find myself just been in my room for the last couple of days losing games after games. I'm not the type of guy to do the walking around... It's hard to do the walk around losing six games in a row.&nbsp;

"It's not healthy, to be honest. I'm feeling down at the moment but tomorrow when we cross the rope my energy level will be 150. As cricketers, we have to have the passion inside, and not just to show it on the TV," he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Seventeen-year-old Riyan Parag overshadowed Dinesh Karthik's heroics to guide Rajasthan to a three-wicket win over Kolkata here at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.

With the win, Rajasthan has pushed Bangalore to the bottom place in the point table, taking the seventh position. Kolkata, on the other hand, is in the sixth position.

Chasing 176, Rajasthan got off to a brilliant start as Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson added 53 runs for the opening wicket.&nbsp;

Sunil Narine struck Rahane leg-before for 34 to get a vital breakthrough.&nbsp;In the next over, Piyush Chawla got rid Samson (22) to unsettle Rajasthan.&nbsp;

With captain Steve Smith, Rajasthan was still in a position to turn the tables.&nbsp;However, Narine returned and dismissed Smith cheaply for two.

Riyan Parag formed brief stands with Ben Stokes (11), Stuart Binny (11) and Shreyas Gopal (18) to shrug off the pressure before finding support in Jofar Archer.

Riyan and Archer punished Kolkata bowlers in the death overs to inch closer towards the victory.&nbsp;

With 18 required from 12 balls, Riyan (47) whacked a six to Russell before his bat hit the top of the stumps, forcing him to leave Archer in the middle.&nbsp;

Having needed nine from the final over, Archer smashed a four and a six to Prasidh Krishna, taking Rajasthan over the line with four balls to spare.

Earlier, captain Dinesh Karthik's monumental effort powered Kolkata to 175 for the loss of six after sent in to bat.

Varun Aaron got a major breakthrough for Rajasthan as he got rid of Chris Lynn for a three-ball golden duck in the opening over and returned to dismiss Shubman Gill for 14.&nbsp;

Soon after, Aaron sent just-settled Nitish Rana (21) as he caught the left-hander at cover off Gopal. Karthik and Narine stitched 38-runs together to recover sinking Kolkata at 42/3 under nine overs.&nbsp;

On a Jofar Archer's delivery, a poor running between Kolkata batsmen resulted in the dismissal of Narine (11).&nbsp;

Karthik played to deep square leg and ran for double but Narine was very slow and was well out of the crease at the non-striker's end when Aaron threw the ball and Rahane whipped the bails off.

Karthik built brief partnerships with big-hitter Andre Russell (14) and Carlos Brathwaite (5). Both West Indies batsmen tried to display their attacking form but Rajasthan denied them from going big.

Kolkata captain and Rinku Singh added 44 runs for the seventh wicket in the death overs. Karthik finished 97 unbeaten, his highest ever score in the history of IPL to post a decent but below-par total.

Powerful all-rounder Shane Watson retired from Australia's Twenty20 Big Bash League Friday, but will continue playing select overseas tournaments.

The 37-year-old, who quit international cricket in 2016, stood down as Sydney Thunder's captain and all-time top run-scorer to spend more time with his family.

"I have so many amazing memories that I will savour forever with the one standout being our (tournament) win in 2016," he said.

"To my teammates, I have played with so many great people and cricketers at the club and I sincerely wish everyone the absolute best for the upcoming seasons."

Despite his age, Watson remains a force to be reckoned with.&nbsp;

He smacked a century from just 62 balls for the Thunder against the Brisbane Heat last season and hit 96 off 53 balls for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League this week.

Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts congratulated him on a "dynamic career".

"Shane Watson was one of the most exciting short-form players ever to grace a cricket field," he said.

"In a career which spanned almost two decades Shane made a major contribution to Australian cricket firstly at international level and then in domestic cricket as a significant contributor to the Big Bash.

"Talented, skillful and powerful, Shane was a devastating batsman at his best."

Watson played more than 700 international and domestic matches in total, scoring over 25,000 runs and claiming in excess of 600 wickets.

He is the only Sydney Thunder batsman to score more than a 1,000 runs and head coach Shane Bond called him "the ultimate professional".&nbsp;

"He cared about the team and the players and was hugely respected in the dressing room. We're really going to miss what he brings to the team and he will be a big loss." he said.

Chennai's regular skipper&nbsp;Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ruled out of an <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl-2019">Indian Premier League</a> game against Mumbai on Friday due to fever. In his absence, Suresh Raina will lead the team at the Chidambaram Stadium.&nbsp;

"MS and Jaddu are not well, they have fever and they will miss today's game," said Raina during the toss.&nbsp;

This is the second time Dhoni has missed a Chennai&nbsp;game this season -- the first being against Hyderabad because of back spasms. Chennai had lost&nbsp;that match.&nbsp;

AB de Villiers helped Bangalore to defeat Punjab by 17 runs here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. Chasing 203, Punjab got off to a superb start with Chris Gayle and KL Rahul replying with back-to-back boundaries.&nbsp;

AB de Villiers became the game changer as he stopped Gayle (23) at long-on off Umesh Yadav.

Mayank Agarwal and Rahul recovered Punjab with their 59-run stand for the second wicket.&nbsp;

Bangalore applied brakes on the scoring as Marcus Stoinis dismissed Mayank (35), who was caught by a tumbling Yuzvendra Chahal at midwicket.&nbsp;

In the next over, Moeen Ali got rid off Rahul (42) to put Punjab under pressure.

Nicholas Pooran and David Miller build a strong 68-run partnership to take Punjab home but de Villiers denied the visitors. Navdeep Saini dismissed Miller (24), who was caught by de Villiers at long-on.

The final over consumed Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardus Viljoen, which helped Umesh Yadav pick three wickets and Punjab ended for 185/7.

Earlier, asked to bat, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis powered Bangalore, especially in the death&nbsp;overs to post a daunting total of 202 for the loss of four.&nbsp;

At one stage even 160 seemed difficult as the host were 84/4 under 11 overs.&nbsp;

But an unbeaten 121-run partnership between de Villiers and Stoinis gave Bangalore bowlers something to defend.

De Villiers punished Mohammed Shami for 21 runs, including two sixes, and slapped another six to Hardus Viljoen in the final over before Stoinis whacked two sixes and as many sixes to steal 27 runs from the last over.&nbsp;

De Villiers and Stoinis finished unbeaten on 82 and 46, respectively.

Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel displayed their attacking form but the attempt short lived.&nbsp;

Kohli played a drive into the covers off Shami but Mandeep Singh caught him for 13, leaving a full house in silence.

Patel, too, faced a similar fate. Murugan Ashwin got a vital breakthrough as he dismissed Patel (43), who was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin at covers.&nbsp;

Big hitter Moeen Ali (4) and Akshdeep Nath (3) returned to the dugout in quick succession without troubling the scoreboard much.

Bangalore will next play against Delhi on April 28, whereas Punjab will take on Hyderabad on April 29.

IPL 2019: Bangalore beat Punjab by 17 runs to register 4th win of the season

Virat Kohli was all charged up during Bangalore's game against Punjab at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bangalore not only defeated Punjab by 17 runs but also registered their third win on the trot.&nbsp;

But how can a game in IPL be complete without some aggression on the field. During the clash, the fans got to witness two send-off from both team's skipper.&nbsp;

First, it was Ashwin, who celebrated Virat Kohli's wicket with a lot of aggression, later Kohli returned the favour with an abusive send-off. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Chasing 203 to win, Punjab needed 27 runs off the final over.&nbsp;

Captain Ravichandran Ashwin came to the crease and hit Umesh Yadav's first delivery for a six.&nbsp;Ashwin hoped for the same result on the next delivery too but he mistimed his shot and the ball went straight to Kohli.&nbsp;

After safely completing the catch, Kohli made some gestures it seemed he even abused his Indian teammate.&nbsp;

Chennai's skipper MS Dhoni, who was critical of his side's top-batting order after losing the previous game to Bangalore, looked satisfied after Shane Watson guided <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-shane-watsons-96-gets-chennai-back-on-winning-track-213086">Chennai defeat Hyderabad by six wickets</a> on Tuesday.

On Chidambaram Stadium track, Watson roared back to form with a 96 off 53 balls splendid knock.&nbsp;

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni hailed Watson as a "matchwinner". He said, "Watson has been a matchwinner for us. He has been batting well in the nets."

He added, "Although he (Watson) did struggle a bit. This is the time when you need to back them."&nbsp;

With the win, Chennai have returned on top in the point table with eight wins from 11 games, whereas Hyderabad remained at fourth with five wins from 10 games.&nbsp;

On being asked about Chennai mantra of success, Dhoni said that "it's a secret" and he won't reveal it before retirement.&nbsp;

With a witty smile on his face, he added, "If I tell everyone what it is, then they won't buy me at the auctions." &nbsp;

Dhoni further added, "The crowd support and franchise's support are key of course. Huge credit has to also go to the support staff who play a huge role in keeping the team atmosphere good for the team and other individuals."

"Other than this, I can't reveal anything till I retire."&nbsp;

'They won't buy me at the auctions', says MS Dhoni on revealing Chennai's 'secret' success mantra

Shane Watson brought back memories of last year's IPL final with a blazing knock that has now almost ensured a playoff berth for Chennai as they <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-ipl-2019-match-41-chennai-super-kings-vs-sunrisers-hyderabad-at-chidambaram-stadium-212979">beat Hyderabad by six wickets</a> on Tuesday.

On a vastly improved Chepauk track, Watson roared back to form with an 96 off 53 balls as Chennai stuttered a bit in end before winning in 19.5 overs.&nbsp;

Watson's innings studded with nine fours and half a dozen of sixes ensured that Chennai have reached the cut-off limit of 16 points needed for the play-off even though they would like to finish in the top two.

Watson's innings would also be a relief for skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had urged the top order to finish matches.

A 77-run stand between Watson and Suresh Raina (38) created the platform and the former Australia all-rounder singlehandedly decimated the Hyderabad&nbsp;attack.&nbsp;

What made it more difficult for the Hyderabad was the fact that their strike bowler Rashid Khan was pulverised by Watson, who took him to the cleaners with 44 coming off his spell.

Sandeep Sharma was another bowler, who was handed severe punishment as he went for 54 in 3.5 overs. Sandeep repeatedly bowled short and Watson would gleefully pull him. Skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/18 in 4 overs) had no option but to bowl the 19th over and left Sandeep with nine runs to defend.

However, Kedar Jadhav literally finished the match with a six off the second ball that sealed the deal.

Earlier, the immensely talented Manish Pandey was back in his element as his unbeaten 83 off 49 balls powered Hyderabad to a fighting 175 for 3 after being put into bat.

Pandey and league's current leading run-scorer David Warner (57 off 45 balls) added 115 runs for the second wicket to lay the foundation for a decent score on what was the best batting track on offer at the Chepauk.&nbsp;

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh struck an early blow, having the in-form Jony Bairstow caught behind in the second over for a duck.

He was the most successful bowler with figures of 2 for 39 in four overs while Deepak Chahar picked up the wicket of Vijay Shankar (26 off 20 balls).&nbsp;

Despite the early dismissal of Bairstow, the visiting team didn't get tied down as the irrepressible Warner and Manish Pandey kept hitting those boundaries and sixes. They brought up the team's 50 in the sixth over.

Pandey who has not been in the best form, hit his straps, scoring freely and was not afraid to go over the top. Dhoni's shuffling of the bowlers didn't make much of an impact as Warner and Pandey kept attacking.&nbsp;

Pandey was the first to reach 50 in 25 balls, pulling one from Dwayne Bravo for a boundary.

Warner was a touch slower in comparison to Pandey, but didn't miss out when the opportunity presented itself and hit a couple of big sixes.

The pugnacious Warner fell against the run of play, victim of Dhoni's trademark lightning-quick stumping off a Harbhajan delivery. The Australian, who is leading the run charts this season, fell for 57 (45 balls, 3x4, 2X6) after adding 115 runs for the second wicket with Pandey.

Dhoni's shuffling of the bowlers didn't make much of an impact as Warner and Pandey kept attacking.

IPL 2019: Struggling Kolkata seek turnaround against Smith's Rajasthan

Ignored for the World Cup, Rishabh Pant Monday said the "selection thought was running" in his mind.

Pant made a statement with a blistering 78 off 36 balls and powered <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/rishabh-pant-steals-ajinkya-rahanes-limelight-as-delhi-beat-rajasthan-to-top-ipl-table-212713">Delhi to a six-wicket win over Rajasthan in the Indian Premier League</a> here.&nbsp;

"I am feeling lovely. To make your team win in an important match is a good feeling. I won't lie, the selection thought was running in my mind," Pant said at the post-match press conference.

The young keeper-batsman added, "I focussed on my process and it worked for me. The wicket was playing good, and I just took advantage of that, I guess. Most important thing for our team is that everyone knows our role, and the support staff tells us, 'this is your role, and this is what is going to happen to you'."

Pant, who was left out of India's squad at the expense of Dinesh Karthik, smashed six fours and four sixes during his stay in the middle.

DC skipper Shreyas Iyer was happy with the way the pitch played, and so was his counterpart Steve Smith.

"When we play away from home, the wickets are so good. We enjoy playing on the rise, and the wickets are perfectly made for them," Iyer said.

"It was important to get a good start in the Powerplay, and Shikhar has been doing that well. The way we've been playing away games and coming back to our home games, we are unaware of how our pitch plays itself."

DC fought back after Rajasthan looked to cross 200 at one stage.

"We knew they were going to go all out, especially the way Ajinkya was batting. This is a big ground, and the pitch was a belter. The way they started, we were expecting 200, but the bowlers did well to restrict them to 190," Iyer said.&nbsp;

The win lifted Delhi to the top of the table with 11 victories and four defeats from 11 outings.&nbsp;
