India and Russia are yet to make final headway to clear outstanding rouble payments for New Delhi's defence purchases from Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and the US-led economic sanctions against Russia. As the current financial year ends in the absence of a solution to this problem, New Delhi has kicked off a local buying spree for its defence needs, The Indian Express newspaper reported. This is because a significant chunk of unspent defence funds consist of the rouble payments worth ₹28,000 crore ($3.39 billion) for weapons India procured from Russia, the report concluded. This financial headroom is being utilised for local defence purchases by New Delhi. For the Indian Army, this includes the Electronic Warfare system for mountains, and a dedicated communication satellite among others. Indian Navy plans to deploy indigenous 'firefighting bots' on its largest warships

It is a landmark event for India as India’s indigenous fighter aircraft landed on India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier.

Historical milestone for Indian Navy

<p>In a statement, the Indian Ministry of Defence, on Tuesday (January 10) said they have approved three capital acquisition proposals amounting to nearly $526 million (Rs. 4,300 crores) for the Indian Army and Navy. This comes after the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting chaired by the country’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who accorded the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) of two proposals by the Indian Army and one by the Navy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In line with the Indian government's push for Make in India initiative, the three proposals are under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category which refers to a category of acquisition of products from an Indian vendor that has been indigenously designed, developed and manufactured with a minimum of 50 per cent Indigenous Content (IC).&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The DAC accorded AoN for procurement of HELINA Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, launchers and associated support equipment which will be integrated to the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH),” said the defence ministry, in the statement.&nbsp;</p>

Additionally, they also said how the procurement of anti-tank guided missiles is an essential part of weaponising ALHs in “countering enemy threats”. Notably, HELINA is said to be one of the most advanced anti-tank weapons in the world and the defence ministry said that its integration&nbsp;will boost the Indian Army’s offensive capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

Elected representatives from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu have expressed sorrow over an incident involving the Indian Navy and an Indian fishing boat, near the India-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary.

Elected representatives from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu have expressed sorrow over an incident involving the Indian Navy and an Indian fishing boat, near the India-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary. According to the Navy, the Naval vessel had fired warning shots (as per standard operation procedures) with the intention of stopping it, as a suspicious boat near the Palk Bay area, didn't stop despite warnings. It is notable that the Palk Bay region is a porous strip of sea that is widely used for trafficking and the illegal influx of refugees. Anitha Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister said that it was a "sorrowful incident", where the Indian Navy had fired upon Indian fishermen (from Tamil Nadu), who were out fishing at sea. He added that the victim of the firing sustained pellet wounds in the abdomen and thigh. "The victim(fisherman) is undergoing treatment at the Madurai Government hospital, and he is conscious, will be given full medical treatment". Also read | UK Politics LIVE: Johnson, Sunak and Mordaunt lead race for new PM The Minister added that the said fishing boat had set sail on October 15th from the Karaikal port in Tamil Nadu, with 10 crew onboard. When queried about the boat not having stopped despite warnings to do so, he said that he would have to get the complete details on the same. "Had the Sri Lankan Navy fired (at our fishermen), we would've taken this up with the Indian Government. The Indian Navy has shot its own country's fishermen!" (in Tamil) tweeted Venkatesan, a member of India's Lower House of Parliament, elected from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He added that this incident was condemnable and demanded action against those responsible for it. The injured person was administered first aid by the ship and evacuated by an Indian Navy Chetak helicopter to INS Parundu (Naval base)." It was also added that the injured person had been shifted to the Government hospital in Tamil Nadu for further medical management and his condition is stable. An inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident, said the Navy.

<p>With improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir Valley, the Indian Navy has revived the Naval training for National Cadets Corps (NCC) after a gap of 33 years. Over 100 cadets of the NCC attended the training on the Manasbal Lake in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The first training activity has been organised for 100 senior NCC cadets, boys and girls, from all districts of the Union territory. The camp will be running till September 26 and prepare the cadets for the forthcoming national level NCC camp at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh commencing on October 2.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''I think it's a momentous occasion that after a gap of 33 years, the NCC cadets of Kashmir region are fortunate to be part of this camp which has started, and will help them train in the naval training activities very close to their homes. Before this, they had to go to Jammu. In the late 1980s, security situation turned grim and we had to shift our training areas. Now&nbsp; with restarting of this exercise at Manasbal, I am sure the NCC training in the valley will get a great fillip,'' said Brigadier K S Kalsi, group commander, NCC cadets.</p>

<p>"The Naval training camps have a number of activities, but this one is specially preparing cadets of J&amp;K and Ladakh for the upcoming national level NCC camp at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh commencing on October 2. These cadets are being trained in boat pulling, sailing, ship modelling and signalling. All of them are very important naval training activities. I have no doubt that all the youth who are going to see these events upfront, or through the media in Kashmir will get motivated,'' added Brigadier Kalsi.</p>

<p>Kashmir is gifted with numerous water bodies and with Manasbal training facility, the NCC cadets of Kashmir will not require to travel to Jammu for training and this will be a big motivation for students to volunteer for NCC. The cadets were extremely happy that the camp is being organised in the valley after decades.</p>

<p>''This training camp has been organised in the valley after a long time, a lot of children from various colleges have come from various parts of the Union territory. I would want other children to come and be a part of these camps. We are being trained in boat pulling, swimming, sailing, and drills. With improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir Valley, the Indian Navy has revived the Naval training for National Cadets Corps (NCC) after a gap of 33 years.

With improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir Valley, the Indian Navy has revived the Naval training for National Cadets Corps (NCC) after a gap of 33 years. Over 100 cadets of the NCC attended the training on the Manasbal Lake in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. The first training activity has been organised for 100 senior NCC cadets, boys and girls, from all districts of the Union territory. The camp will be running till September 26 and prepare the cadets for the forthcoming national level NCC camp at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh commencing on October 2. ''I think it's a momentous occasion that after a gap of 33 years, the NCC cadets of Kashmir region are fortunate to be part of this camp which has started, and will help them train in the naval training activities very close to their homes. Before this, they had to go to Jammu. In the late 1980s, security situation turned grim and we had to shift our training areas. Now with restarting of this exercise at Manasbal, I am sure the NCC training in the valley will get a great fillip,'' said Brigadier K S Kalsi, group commander, NCC cadets.
