India's High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma has asked Canada for evidence that would support allegations made against India that it is involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In an interview with&nbsp;Canadian platform The Globe and Mail on Friday (Nov 3), Verma said, "There is no specific or relevant information provided in this case for us to assist them in the investigation."

"Where is the evidence? Where is the conclusion of the investigation? I would go a step further and say now the investigation has already been tainted. A direction has come from someone at a high level to say India or Indian agents are behind it," the envoy added.&nbsp;

The Indian envoy's call for evidence comes in response to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations leveled against India in September where he said that agents of the Indian government are involved in Nijjar's killing.

The envoy also noted that India has made 26 extradition requests to Ottawa over the past five or six years and is awaiting action.

India has already dismissed the allegations in Nijjar's killing and termed them "absurd and motivated." The country also retaliated by expelling a Canadian diplomat when Ottawa removed a top Indian diplomat - Senior Punjab cadre IPS officer Pavan Kumar Rai, the head of Indian intelligence in Canada.&nbsp;

In response to New Delhi's concerns over diplomatic parity, Canada was forced to withdraw 41 diplomats from India. Amid the diplomatic standoff, Ottawa also suspended visa and consular services in Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Bengaluru consulates.

Speaking about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) security provided to him, the envoy said, "I feel that is hate speech and an incitement to violence."

Speaking to WION’s diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, the high commissioner said, "So the govt of India has been talking with the govt of Guyana, we are to work on govt-to-govt biases. We have decided technical teams from both countries will sit down and discuss ways of collaboration."

India took two loads last year, one was a consortium of HPCL, later by an Indian Oil Corporation.

He also spoke about India's ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative that "really helped" New Delhi and "its India's image, that we will help others no matter what".

India under the Vaccine Maitri exported Covid vaccines to almost 100 countries including Guyana. He also spoke on the diaspora connection, the visit of the President of Guyana's India visit, Guyana's economy among other things. Here are some key excerpts.&nbsp;

"Guyana has 39% diaspora of Indian origin and the connect has been for last 183 years,” he said.

"Indo-Guyanese have retained Indian roots, even though it has been 183 years. They celebrate all the Indian festivals. The cuisines, the religion, the traditions. If you go to a mandir in Guyana, it seems you have entered a time capsule because of the bhajans from eastern UP, Western Bihar. Traditions have remained, old Bhojpuri songs."

"Whenever I talk to Indo-Guyanese, they talk eloquently about the links they have with India.I remember I went to a remote village a few months into covid, we were to help them with gift hampers, and giving them food. An old gentleman came, and when he knew who I was, he held my hand and became emotional. This was because I was the first Bharatiya, Indian he had seen in many decades. That is the emotion they have, this cultural connection will remain."

"Guyana has been a long-standing partner for India through thick and thin. In fact, even though Guyana is a member of OIC, it has never associated itself with those resolutions."

<h2>Energy exports to India</h2>

Guyana started pumping out crude oil only in December 2020, and they are expected to pump 1.7 million barrels by 2035. At the same time, it will become the world's richest country per capita. They call it the “Dubai of the Caribbean".

“The cricket stadium in Guyana was built by India for the world cup. We have given them pumps to deal with floods. Traffic lights in George town were installed by India. We have given them the Centre of excellence in IT. Currently infrastructure projects worth about $105 million, one is the ferry. We have roads, and hospitals that are being constructed"

India, Guyana technical teams to discuss oil trade, says Indian envoy K J Srinivasa 

At the United Nations Security Council meeting on the Ukraine crisis, India reiterated that the “wellbeing” of its citizens is a priority for New Delhi when it comes to the precarious situation.

India has around 20,000 nationals in the country, most of them are students perusing medical education.

Speaking at the security council meeting under Russia’s presidency, Indian envoy to United Nations TS Tirumurti called for “immediate de-escalation of tensions” asking the member countries to take into “account the legitimate security interests of all countries and aimed towards securing long-term peace and stability in the region and beyond.”

This is the second meeting that was called in to discuss the Ukraine issue. It is taking place in the backdrop of the Minsk agreement.

At the meeting, India backed the implementation of the Minsk pact and talks under the Normandy Format.

The Indian envoy said, "We believe that the Minsk Agreements provide a basis for a negotiated and peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine. All parties should continue to engage through all possible diplomatic channels and keep working towards the full implementation of the agreements.”

The Minsk Protocol is an agreement that came into being in 2014-15 in an attempt to defuse the war in eastern Ukraine regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

The agreement seeks to halt the conflict that began when Russia-backed separatists seized swaths of territory following Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimean.

Russia, Ukraine, and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe are part of the agreement.

The Normandy Format is an extension of the Minsk pact which focuses on implementing the agreements,

Germany, France and members of the Minsk pact are part of the Normandy format talks.

Calling for the early implementat9ion of the Minsk pact, Tirumurti said, “We believe that meetings under the Normandy Format will further facilitate the implementation of the provisions of the Minsk Agreements, including its key security and political aspects.”

He also welcomed the recent meetings of the Political Advisers of Normandy Format countries in Paris and Berlin.

In a rare development, the Indian envoy to Saudi Arabia Dr&nbsp;Ausaf Sayeed and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Dr&nbsp;Yousef Al-Othaimeen held a meeting on Monday.

India will brief foreign envoys and diplomats based in the Indian capital city New Delhi next week in a mega exercise on its COVID action plan. The briefing will take place on November 06 and will be done by India's foreign secretary Harsh Shringla.

China wanted to get unilateral advantage on ground, says Indian envoy to Russia
