<p>Per the latest report in Cricbuzz, the number of security personnel, police and paramedics present at the newly-built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York was enough to match the number of spectators who came to watch the game.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also said that a helicopter hovered over the ground constantly while the Indian Team was placed under a high-security cordon. Moreover, the Indian Team bus was driven via an alternative route and not through the usual thoroughfares of New York’s Long Island. The new (25-minute long) route, crossing the golf course, was known to a handful of security personnel and was used before and after the game.</p>

While access to the hotel is exclusive to the staff and the hotel guests, those attempting to enter it without authorisation shall be removed swiftly, with police taking command of the situation if necessary.</p>

<h2>Trouble for all</h2>

<p>Following the threat, all concerned parties and stakeholders took the matter into their hands and upped the security in and around the venue, with multiple police forces, including the New York Police Department (NYPD), New York State Police, and Nassau County Police taking charge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although the extensive security cover has troubled the spectators, media personnel and even players trying to enter the stadium, the ICC is working on providing a secure and enjoyable space for everyone attending the matches.</p>

<p>"Security measures are stringent but necessary. We don't want it either eased or tightened! The discussion with the police will be to improve the process to get all the attendees. This is what needs to be communicated to the police," an ICC official said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.</p>

<p>Virat Kohli hit the winning six as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to get the fourth consecutive win in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 19 in Pune. With the six, Kohli also completed his 48th ODI ton - one short of former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's world record of 49 ODI tons. Kohli, however, wasn't too sure about getting 100 and not taking singles to win the match as India needed just two runs with him batting on 97.</p>

<p>Kohli's partner in the middle, KL Rahul, however, persuaded him to to go for the century. "He [Kohli] was confused, he said it will not look too nice, not to take the single, it's still a World Cup, and it's still a big stage. <p>Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram has played down the controversy surrounding the wide ball that was not declared by umpire Richard Kettleborough during the World Cup match between India and Bangladesh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akram called the controversy a needless one as it was a genuine mistake, with people having 'nothing to do' making a big fuss out of it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Looks like one of those genuine mistakes [by the umpire]. It was a wide ball for sure. [On the controversy] This is for people who have nothing to do, who live off this cr*p and then they can go nuts with it," said Akram during a discussion on A Sports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the closing stages of the match, Indian no. 3 Virat Kohli was gunning for his 48th ODI century. With two runs required, Kohli was on 97 and required a boundary to get to the milestone. However, left-arm off-spinner Nasum Ahmed, bowling the 42nd over, darted one down the leg, which, in most cases, would have been declared a wide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kohli, who anticipated a wide, gave a disgusted look to the bowler but umpire Richard Kettleborough remained unmoved. The English umpire suggested that since Kohli had moved slightly inside the stumps, the ball wasn't eligible to be called wide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to an amendment in MCC Law 22.1 in 2022, a wide should be evaluated on the basis of the position of the batter, the location of the striker at any point since the bowler started their run-up, and whether the ball would have passed wide of the striker in a typical batting stance.</p>

<p>However, controversy soon erupted on social media, where netizens believed that Kettleborough didn't give the wide to curtail the rather 'unsportsmanlike' habit of cricketers to dart wides at the end of innings to stop batters from reaching milestones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Quizzed after the match, Bangladesh stand-in skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto clarified that there was no intentional attempt to bowl a wide ball.</p>

<p>“No, no. It was unintentional. We didn’t plan that. Bowlers didn’t mean to bowl a wide ball. We aimed to play a good game. Also, Tamim batted well. <p>India will take on New Zealand on Sunday in Dharamshala where the two unbeaten sides in the tournament will collide to decide the outright league table leader. New Zealand has so far beaten England, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan while India have got the better of Pakistan and Australia in addition.</p>

<p>India famously lost to New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal while the same result followed in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2021. India have not won an ICC trophy since 2013 when they tasted victory in the Champions Trophy.</p>

<p>On the first ball of the 24th over, an away going delivery from Mohammed Siraj saw Hasan flick the ball towards the fine leg. However, the ball did not travel much and went fine in the direction of the wicketkeeper Rahul. The stumper had pulled off a stunner with a low left-hand catch, as he dived to his left. He caught the ball single-handedly to produce a catch of the tournament moment. Hasan would be dismissed for 3 off 13 while Siraj enjoyed his first wicket of the day.</p>

He had an awkward fall that resulted in him damaging his ankle and was unable to complete his over. As a consequence, former India skipper Virat Kohli had to be called in to complete the over. This reminded me of the 2003 World Cup when Ashish Nehra got injured while bowling against Namibia.</p>

<p>Pandya was later taken for scans and did not participate in the rest of the Bangladesh batting innings. At the time of writing Bangladesh were 170/4 in 36 overs. Towhid Hridoy (12) and Mushfiqur Rahim (26) were in the middle for Bangladesh as they tried to steady the innings after quick-fire wickets.
