What does a captivity of eight years in a windowless cellar do to a person? A documentary has been created on the actual circumstances of Natascha Kampusch's kidnapping in 1998 when she was 10 years old. She was abducted in broad daylight. For 3096 days, Wolfgang Priklopil held her captive in a cellar. When she eventually escaped the cellar in 2006, a lot of rumours about her life began to circulate. Where is Natascha Kampusch now? Is Wolfgang Priklopil alive? Why was she kidnapped at all? What all Natascha Kampusch went through during her eight years in hell?

Natascha Kampusch kidnapping

Natascha Kampusch was kidnapped from the street in Vienna on March 2, 1998, by Wolfgang Priklopil as she made her way to school. Natascha was just 10 years old when she was abducted. It led to one of the biggest missing person searches in Austria but there were no leads. The hunt for Natascha's whereabouts changed after reports that she had been seen being carried into a white minivan by two guys.

What happened with Natascha Kampusch in captivity?

In a hidden, windowless cellar of Priklopil's home in Strasshof, a small town northeast of Vienna, Natascha was held captive. Here, she suffered sexual and physical torture and was first forbidden from leaving the cellar under any circumstances. She was compelled to cook and clean for Priklopil as access to additional rooms of the house was gradually granted to her. He made books and radio available to her and had no problem with her finishing her education on her own.

Eventually, Priklopil agreed to let Natascha join him for holidays, despite her claims that he constantly monitored her and provided no escape routes. On 23 August, 2006, Natascha, who was 18 at the time, was given permission to vacuum his car in the Priklopil family's driveway. He briefly disappeared from view and went away from the vacuum's roar when he got a call. Natascha utilised this window of opportunity to flee, dashing to a neighbour's home and introducing herself. Natascha was reunited with her family when the police were contacted.

Natascha Kampusch Stockholm Syndrome Theory

Natascha Kampusch allegedly made comments suggesting she felt sorry for her captor, it was assumed that she had Stockholm Syndrome. Natascha, however, believes that this phrase is "disrespectful" to her.

Priklopil wanted Natascha Kampusch to feel like Nazi

As per reports, one of Priklopil motives for her kidnap was due to his admiration of Hitler. Priklopil wanted her to feel like she was victim of the Nazis. Natascha after her escape said "He gave me little to eat, little clothes, humiliated me, let me do heavy work and shaved my head. He admired Adolf Hitler and wanted me to feel like the Nazi victims."

Where is Natascha Kampusch now?

Currently, Natascha Kampusch works as an author, television host, and activist. She eventually authored two books on her time in captivity despite first being reluctant to talk about her experience. In September 2010, she published her debut book, 3096 Tage (3096 Days), which was adapted into a movie the following year. Her second book, 10 Years of Freedom, was published in August 2016 to coincide with the tenth anniversary of her escape. She was granted Priklopil's house, and although though she doesn't live there, she continues to pay the house's expenses and maintenance.

Is Priklopil alive now?

The day Natascha Kampusch made her escape, Wolfgang Priklopil passed away. He threw himself under a train in fear of the consequences of her escape.

Actor Colin Farrell said that playing 'The Penguin' in Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' was just the "tip of the iceberg" in his exploration of the character, which will continue with its upcoming eponymous HBO Max spinoff series.

At the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala on Thursday night, Farrell opened up to Variety's Marc Malkin about how 'The Penguin' series came together, saying that he had no idea when he started filming 'The Batman' that his character would get its own show, reports Variety.

"The only thing I had an idea was that I wasn't nearly getting to explore the character as much as I wanted to," Farrell said on the red carpet.

"Because there was all this extraordinary work done by [makeup artists] Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team, and I just thought it was the tip of the iceberg, pardon the pun, that we were getting to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the film. I was grateful for them, but I wanted more."

Farrell said that he then "had a bit of a thought about it" and talked to producer Dylan Clark, who was also keen on the idea. But what really made him want to do 'The Penguin' spinoff was the work of make-up artists Marino and Fontaine, who were responsible for Farrell's shocking transformation into the supervillain.

Colin Farrell teases 'The Penguin' series, says 'The Batman' was just 'tip of the iceberg'

Anita Pointer, one of the four sibling singers who earned pop success as The Pointer Sisters, died Saturday at the age of 74, her publicist announced. She died while battling cancer. Anita was visiting family members at the time of her death, publicist Roger Neal said in a statement. Anita, Ruth, Bonnie and June Pointer, born the daughters of a pastor, grew up singing in their father’s church in Oakland, California.

Anita Pointer, one of the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters, had several pop, country, and R&B songs in the 1970s and 1980s, including "I'm So Excited," "Jump (For My Love)," and "Fire." According to publicist Roger Neal, Pointer passed away at home in Beverly Hills while surrounded by her family. Anita was the second eldest of four sisters. She joined the group as a trio after quitting her work as a secretary, June and Bonnie, a couple, in 1969.

The Pointer Sisters later became a quartet for a while with Ruth, the only one of the original singing sisters still alive, though Bonnie left the group in the late 1970s and they became a trio once again. Bonnie Pointer left the group in 1977, signing a solo deal with Motown Records but enjoying only modest success. “We were devastated,” Anita Pointer said of the departure in 1990. “We did a show the night she left, but after that, we just stopped. We thought it wasn’t going to work without Bonnie.”

The Pointer Sisters then went back to being a trio after Bonnie quit the group in the late 1970s. Later, Ruth, the last surviving original vocal sister, joined the group as a quartet. In 1977, Bonnie Pointer broke away from the trio and began a solo career with Motown Records, although she had only minor success. Anita Pointer remarked on the departure in 1990, “We did a show the night she left, but after that, we just stopped. We thought it wasn’t going to work without Bonnie.” Moreover, at the age of 52, June Pointer passed away from cancer in 2006. The Pointer sisters also have two surviving brothers, Fritz and Aaron.

Prior to Roxie McKain Pointer, Anita had a daughter named Jada who passed away in 2003, leaving Anita to care for Roxie. "While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June and Bonnie and at peace. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us," the family said in a statement.

Their debut album in 1973 produced their first hit single 'Yes We Can Can'. Among their bigger hits were 'Fire' in 1978, 'He's So Shy' in 1980, 'Slow Hand' in 1981, and 'Neutron Dance', 'Automatic' and 'Jump' in 1983. 'I'm So Excited' from 1982 remains a standard. In recent years, the group continued performing with Ruth singing along with her daughter Issa and granddaughter Sadako.

Hollywood's famous mountain lion P-22 euthanised due to severe health issues

California's famous mountain lion P-22, often referred to as 'Brad Pitt' due to his good looks and easygoing attitude, has been captured to and tranquilised weeks after it attacked and killed a leashed chihuahua dog in Hollywood hills.

About four weeks back a video of the violent incident had gone viral on social video. As per KTLA, the tiny dog named Piper along with another canine was out on a leashed walk with its owner when the mountain lion attacked it. Piper was grievously injured and did not survive the attack.

The wild cat P22 is reportedly around 12 years old and is famous for roaming through residential areas. The male feline has been captured on CCTV frequently but his recent "agitated" behaviour is new and had alarmed the authorities.

"P-22 is a remarkably old cat in the wild and, after being deemed responsible for killing a leashed pet last month, may be exhibiting signs of distress," said the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The average lifespan of these large felines in the wild is around 10 years.

On Monday, Fish and Wildlife Department officers rang the bell at Sarah Picchi, a Los Feliz resident's house, and informed her "You have a lion in your back yard".

Talking to Los Angeles Times, Pichi revealed that the lion was tranquilised on Monday morning.

Officials said that the ageing mountain lion is in stable condition after being sedated. A celebrity in his own right, P-22 as per BBC is the oldest Southern California cougar to be studied.

P-22's future remains unknown, the Fish and Wildlife Department has said that it would "determine the best next steps for the animal while also prioritising the safety of surrounding communities".

Director James Cameron has made a shocking revelation in connection to the budget of his upcoming sequel of "Avatar" -- "Avatar: The Way of Water." There have been many reports that has talked about the budget of the movie and gave out wild predictions however now the director himself has dropped a bomb in his recent interview. “Avatar: The Way of Water” is set to open in theaters on December 16.

Variety said that earlier reports claimed that the production budget alone was in the $250 million range. However, now the director has risen the curtain from over the clouds and made an astonishing submission over the budget of his latest movie sequel. Though the director refrained from revealing any numbers to the public but his response in queries has made clear that the movie production cost is TOO MUCH. While speaking with GQ magazine about sequel's budget, the director said “Very f***** [expensive].”

Moreover, the director Cameron in a conversation told Disney and 20th Century Studios executives that his sequel budget was so high that it represented “the worst business case in movie history.” Over the budget he said that the movie has to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history to earn any profits. "That’s your threshold. That’s your break even,” he said, as per Variety.

According to the current chart of highest-grossing movies worldwide, Cameron’s original 2009 “Avatar” ranks at the top with $2.9 billion. Furthermore, Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” stands at second position with $2.7 million. Cameron’s “Titanic” has grabbed the third rank with $2.1 billion. Cameron in a groundbreaking confession said if “Avatar: The Way of Water” wants to break even the movie will have to overtake either “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($2.07 billion) or “Avengers: Infinity War” ($2.05 billion) in the fourth or fifth slots, respectively, reported Variety.

It is pertinent to note that only five movies that have ever gotten out of the $2 billion mark across the globe and pulled off a stunning success. COVID pandemic has slowed down the pace of cinema but the mood is now again uplifted as the world continues to open up. However, despite the COVID restrictions and lockdowns, the pandemic saw some movies thriving. Movies like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” earned $1.9 billion and “Top Gun: Maverick” made $1.4 billion and registered huge profits.

The original “Avatar” grossed $785 million domestically. The movies holds number four slot on the all-time US box office chart. The fifth slot is with “Top Gun: Maverick” with $716 million domestic.

During Oscar award-winning director Paul Haggis' rape trial, on Thursday, a former freelance television producer testified that the 69-year-old assaulted and attempted to rape her at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

According to a report by Variety, the woman claimed that Haggis sexually pursued her before she fled into her apartment building following the TIFF event.

"It made me feel like he was somebody not only to be emotionally feared, he was somebody to be physically feared," she shared in her testimony. "My personal well-being was in jeopardy. It was a terrifying feeling."

She was allegedly introduced to Haggis by her boss at a gathering for the non-profit Artists for Peace and Justice during TIFF. The accuser, who was 26 at the time the alleged assault took place, described her initial encounters with the filmmaker as professional. However, as the night progressed, she felt a dynamic shift in his behaviour, becoming convinced he was deliberately following her in a manner that seemed odd.

The next day, Haggis emailed her asking to get coffee in the morning, and she agreed as a professional courtesy. "I was going to be working in this industry for a long time," she said. "I didn’t want to create an enemy if I didn’t have to."

During her second meeting, she recalled feeling discomfort as Haggis was making "very degrading" comments about his ex-partner. "He used the term ‘bitch.’ He used the term ‘crazy actress,’" she said. "He’s talking about her pleasuring him and how she was the best at doing it. At that point, I started to tune into where this person’s head was at."

Jane Doe No. 4 further stated that it wasn’t until that night that Haggis began to actively pursue her. At the premiere of 'Spotlight', Haggis allegedly made some phone calls to ensure his proximity with the accuser in the theatre. "We were not seated close to the people I knew," she said. "It felt very manipulated."

During the film’s afterparty, the woman said she started getting squeamish because Haggis kept handing her drinks and following her around. "He put his hand on the small of my back and began introducing me to people," she said.

The woman eventually managed to escape to the bathroom, where she recalled amping herself up to confront the director for his inappropriate behaviour.

According to reports, jurors in a lower Manhattan courtroom saw a video deposition of the woman from 2019, who recalled feeling emotionally and physically threatened at the time of their encounter.

Haggis is currently fighting a civil rape lawsuit from former film publicist Haleigh Breest, who accused the filmmaker of forcing her to perform oral sex on him and then raping her in his apartment in 2013 after a movie premiere.

Comic actor Leslie Jordan, a prime-time Emmy winner for his role on the hit sitcom "Will & Grace" and a social media sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic, died on Monday in a car crash while driving to work in Hollywood, a spokesperson said. He was 67.

Jordan apparently suffered an unspecified "medical issue" at the wheel of his car, and the vehicle struck the side of a building on his way to the Warner Bros studio set of the Fox television series "Call Me Kat," according to his agent, Don LeClair. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The diminutive actor - he stood just 4 feet, 11 inches (1.5 meters) tall - co-starred on the show as a newly single gay man working as the head baker at the Louisville, Kentucky, cafe of the lead character, Kat, played by Mayim Bialik.

The show, in production for its third season, is largely based on the British sitcom "Miranda."

Jordan, a Tennessee native, was best known to U.S. television audiences for his recurring role on the NBC comedy "Will & Grace" as Beverly Leslie, the comically conniving foil of the Karen character played by Megan Mullally. The role earned him an Emmy for best guest actor in a comedy series in 2006.

He became famous to a younger generation of fans with a series of humorous video Instagram posts about daily life in quarantine that went viral during the pandemic.

Widely recognized for his short stature and Southern accent, his television credits also included guest appearances on "Murphy Brown" "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "Star Trek: Voyager," "Boston Public" and "American Horror Story."

"The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan," his agent said in a statement. "Not only was he a mega talent and joy to work with, but he provided an emotional sanctuary to the nation at one of its most difficult times. What he lacked in height he made up for in generosity and greatness as a son, brother, artist, comedian, partner and human being."

A New York court dismissed a $40 million sexual misconduct claim against Kevin Spacey on Thursday. The actor who made the claim claimed the Hollywood star targeted him when he was 14 years old.

A jury determined that Anthony Rapp had not proven that the two-time Oscar winner had "touched a sexual or intimate body part," which prompted Judge Lewis Kaplan to dismiss the civil case. Rapp was suing for compensation for "emotional anguish."

According to the US district court for the Southern District of New York, after roughly an hour of deliberation, "the jury held the defendant not responsible."

After the verdict was announced, the 63-year-old "Usual Suspects" and "House of Cards" star was seen leaving court without speaking to media.

His lawyer said in a statement that "Mr. Spacey is grateful to live in a country where the citizens have a right to trial by impartial jurors who make their decision based on evidence and not rumor or social media."

"Their verdict was swift and decisive."

Spacey, one of the first celebrities to be implicated in the global #MeToo movement, has separately entered a not guilty plea to allegations of sexually assaulting three men in Britain between March 2005 and April 2013.

Charges of indecent assault and sexual assault against the actor were dismissed in Massachusetts in 2019.

Rapp, a "Star Trek: Discovery" actor, said that Spacey raped him in 1986 at a party in Manhattan when he was 14 and Spacey was 26.

The 50-year-old actor claimed in his lawsuit that Spacey entered his bedroom as he was watching television, picked him up, lifted him into a bed, and momentarily lay down next to him.

A court document states that Rapp asserted Spacey's hand "grazed" his buttocks while doing this.

Rapp said how he "felt frozen" during the two-week trial before he was able to "wiggle his way" out.

Rapp concurred, but insisted that throughout the encounter, which lasted no longer than two minutes, "no kissing, no undressing, no reaching under clothes, and no sexualized statements or innuendo" had taken place.

Angela Lansbury, the British-born actress whose career spanned eight decades and produced indelible portraits of a wide range of characters from villainesses to sleuths and light comic roles in movies, on stage and on television, died at age 96, her family said on Tuesday in a statement.

Lansbury, who played a crime-solving mystery writer in the long-running US television series "Murder, She Wrote," "died peacefully in her sleep" at home in Los Angeles, according to a statement from her children. The actress was just five days shy of her 97th birthday, the statement said.

In movies, Lansbury turned in riveting supporting performances, including her film debut as a teenager playing the conniving Cockney maid in "Gaslight" in 1944, as the doomed Sibyl in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" in 1945 and as Laurence Harvey's evil, manipulative mother in "The Manchurian Candidate" in 1962. All three roles earned her Academy Award nominations.

Nearly seven decades after her first film, she was awarded an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement at age 88 in November 2013.

Academy Award winners Geoffrey Rush and Emma Thompson offered a tribute to Lansbury at the ceremony. Rush lauded her as the "living definition of range," while Thompson recalled tossing a pie at Lansbury during the filming of the 2005 comedy "Nanny McPhee."

Marsha Hunt, one of the last surviving actors from Hollywood's so-called Golden Age of the 1930s and 1940s, has passed away. During her career, which was briefly interrupted by the McCarthy era blacklist, Hunt worked with actors such as Laurence Olivier and Andy Griffith. Her age was 104.

According to Roger Memos, the writer-director of the 2015 documentary "Marsha Hunt's Sweet Adversity," Hunt, who had roles in more than 100 films and television programmes, passed away on Wednesday at her Sherman Oaks, California, home.

She was born in Chicago and moved to Hollywood in 1935. Over the next 15 years, she acted in scores of movies, including "Easy Living," a comedy directed by Preston Sturges, and the Olivier and Greer Garson-starring rendition of "Pride and Prejudice."

When MGM dubbed her "Hollywood's Youngest Character Actress," she was much under 40. She was also sufficiently well-known by the early 1950s to grace the cover of Life magazine and seemed poised to succeed in the brand-new medium of television when all of a sudden, as she recounted in 1996, "the work dried up."

She discovered the explanation from her agent: it had been disclosed that she attended a peace conference in Stockholm and other allegedly dubious events by the communist-hunting Red Channels journal. Hunt travelled to Washington in 1947 to oppose the House Un-American Activities Committee, which was conducting a witch hunt for communists in the film business, alongside Hollywood luminaries Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, and Danny Kaye.

Marsha Hunt: A 1940s actress and blacklist victim passes away at 104

The highest court in New York state let Harvey Weinstein to appeal his charges of rape and sexual assault on Wednesday (August 24), giving Weinstein a slim chance of receiving a new trial. According to a letter dated Monday and submitted to Weinstein's attorneys, Chief Judge Janet DiFiore "approved leave to appeal" on August 19.

The letter made no mention of the possible justifications for the decision, and it has no influence on the upcoming rape allegations against him in California.

The court can uphold Weinstein's conviction or mandate a new trial after considering the arguments made by his attorneys and the prosecution. A lower appeals court confirmed the verdict last June, rejecting claims that the Manhattan trial judge committed multiple mistakes that compromised the proceedings.

The threshold for granting a new trial is high, but after speaking with his client in prison, Weinstein was "relieved by this decision," according to one of his attorneys, Arthur Aidala.

A judge gave him a 23-year prison term.

After being extradited to California this year, Weinstein is currently incarcerated there as he awaits his trial on 11 allegations of misbehaviour toward five women between 2004 and 2013. In Los Angeles, Weinstein has entered a not-guilty plea to allegations of rape and sexual abuse.
