This movie came about three months after my dad passed, so I got this opportunity, I feel like it was sent by my dad, and to tell a movie about an extraordinary human being and family…. I think it would have been my dad's favourite movie of mine," the actress said on the Today show.

In a touching Instagram post in December 2021, Swank reflected on her father's passing, noting that it had helped her understand the circle of life and connect with her true self. "In this physical loss, as devastating as it is, I was awakened to the truest sense of living again. It helped me better understand the circle of life and where we come from and where we go back to, which has connected me back to my truest self. It helped me forgive, to move past the things that hold me back, in whatever form that takes each day. As well as being deeply connected to the Ultimate Source and therefore, my Dad, always," her caption read.

Hilary Swank dazzled at the premiere of Ordinary Angels on Monday, turning heads in a Vivienne Westwood gown. The Oscar winner, 49, looked radiant in a crimson red crepe satin dress from the designer's Made-to-Order collection. Swank's elegant ensemble included a draped corset bodice and an off-the-shoulder neckline, complemented by soft makeup and side-swept hair. She accessorised with Kwiat diamond stud earrings and a Fred Leighton ruby and diamond ring. Ordinary Angels, set to release later this year, features Swank as Sharon, a hairdresser who finds purpose in helping a family facing a medical crisis. The film's trailer, released in May 2023, offers a glimpse into the heartwarming story of faith and resilience. During an appearance on the Today show, Swank shared that the film's theme of organ donation resonates deeply with her, following her father's lung transplant and subsequent passing in October 2021. Swank took a break from acting from 2014 to 2017 to care for her father during his transplant and recovery. Twins! Actress Hilary Swank gives birth at 48; says, 'It wasn't easy, but worth it'

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler recently revealed on an episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show' that he "almost killed" Hilary Swank on the set of 'PS I Love You'.

He shared that he still feels guilty over the hilarious yet dangerous incident that resulted in his co-star going to the hospital for quick treatment.

Sharing the incident with Drew Barrymore, the actor referred to the scene where he had to dance wearing nothing but a pair of suspenders and said, "I literally shot that scene for a day and a half and I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders."

"At one point, the clip, which was a crocodile clip, got stuck in the television as I'm crawling towards her and she's right in front of me and she's laughing hysterically," he added.

The clip was "so dangerous" that the camera crew devised plastic covers as protection.

"I had to ping it, and it would go past my face. And this time I'm crawling towards the bed. It gets stuck," he revealed. "It releases, flies over my head, hits her in the head, slashes her head. I cut her open."

Swank was then rushed to the hospital. "Imagine a studio, and in three seconds, everybody's gone, and I'm just sitting there in my boxer shorts and my boots and a pair of socks and I just started crying," he said.

"'I just scared Hilary Swank!' I almost took her eye out and I just made a fool of myself for two days and this is what I have to show for it. She's off to the hospital," he stated.

Gerard Butler recollects almost killing Hilary Swank on 'PS I Love You' sets

SAG AFTRA Health Plan trustees and Hilary Swank have decided to resolve issues listed in the lawsuit by the actress in which she asked a judge to resume coverage of her treatment for recurrent malignant ovarian cysts. She has been suffering from it for 12 years now.

In the lawsuit, Hilary Swank claims that the SAG AFTRA Health Plan would cover the treatment of ovarian cysts but the trustees later denied and then retracted in favour of the actress. This happened in 2009. In 2015, “the Trustees reversed course and stopped allowing Swank’s claims for treatment of ovarian cysts. It also just so happened that around the same time as when the Trustees no longer agreed to allow Swank’s claims, Swank was undergoing procedures to preserve her ability to conceive in the future. Seizing upon Swank’s choice to keep her options open, the Trustees pointed to an exclusion in the Plan for ‘infertility treatment,’ relying on the notion that the only purpose of preserving the health of an ovary is to procreate.”

The suit adds: “This matter addresses the shockingly antiquated question of whether the sole purpose of a woman, and specifically her ovaries, is to procreate. When faced with a claim for insurance benefits for the medically necessary treatment of ovarian cysts and endometriosis, the Trustees answered ‘yes,’ determining that there could be no possible reason to treat those conditions other than for the purpose of trying to conceive.”

The suit said that “the purpose of treating and monitoring Swank’s sole remaining ovary was unrelated to any ‘infertility treatment.’ Rather, Swank’s doctors were focused on saving her ovary to prevent the risk of debilitating medical conditions, including cancer, loss of estrogen production, premature menopause, osteoporosis, depression, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol in the blood), coronary artery disease, arthritis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic pain, fatigue, chest pain, heart palpitations, muscle spasms, insomnia, recurrent urinary tract and yeast infections, and even early death.”

According to the new order, the presiding judge wrote, “In light of the parties’ Notice of Settlement, the Court orders that the action is dismissed without prejudice. The Court retains jurisdiction to vacate this Order and to reopen the action within 45 days from the date of this Order; provided, however, any request by any party(ies) that the Court do so, shall make a showing of good cause as to why the settlement has not been completed within the 45-day period, what further settlement processes are necessary, and when the party(ies) making such a request reasonably expect the process to be concluded.”

Scene: Commander Emma Green (Hilary Swank) looks towards planet Earth from distant space contemplating how far away she is, from not only her home planet but also human civilization, society, and most importantly her family. This opening sequence is a perfect launching point for the sci-fi series 'Away', which unlike shows/movies in this genre, not only focuses on the "space" aspect but also dwells deeper into the raw human emotions, sacrifices and the mental and physical turmoil of those who take such space journies.

The story is about the first global effort to send humans to Mars on the spacecraft Atlas. It revolves around the five astronauts from different nations, working together to achieve this monumental feat. However, 'Away' is so much more - their struggles, sacrifices, relations with each other as they work together and ofcourse their ties with loved ones back on Earth.

The crew is an eclectic mix. Commander Emma Green (Hilary Swank) from NASA leads the space mission to Mars, leaves behind her husband and daughter back home. She tries to do her best for the other astronauts and her family, while keeping her own mind sane. Ram (Ray Panthaki) from India's very own ISRO is her second in command and the medical officer. Russian cosmonaut Misha Popov is the most experienced among the crew and is the go-to engineer among the group. Dr. Kwesi Weisberg (Ato Essandoh) is a leading botanist from UK who is tasked to grow flora on Mars. And lastly, Lu Wang (Vivian Wu) from China's CNSA is a leading chemist who displays fierce discipline, order, and honor.

Each astronaut brings in their own special flavor and personality to the 3-year long journey. From Commander Emma Green who is always trying to keep the crew united, to Misha who is always using his experience to help out others,to Dr. Kwesi setting up his much-loved space garden, to Ram's selfless love for mission and others to Lu's quick thinking, every character has been neatly sketched out by the makers.

This show highlights how even a small problem in space can be a life-threatening one. When Ram falls ill to when the water system gets damaged, each roadblock faced by these crew members seems like the end.
Two-time Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank fits perfectly in the role of commander Emma Green. A person who has worked hard to reach where she is and someone who wants to be the best at everything she does. Leaving home and embarking on a 3-year long journey to Mars wasn't easy, especially because of her husband and former astronaut's medical condition and a teenage daughter who is in her formative years in school. Matters get worse during her space journey with her husband's stroke and daughter's accident. There are times when she brakes down during the mission but is always able to rise above the crisis, ready to take responsibility for the lives of her fellow astronauts. Credit also goes to her husband who is always supportive and encourages Emma to do her job no matter what happenes back home

The show has a very good balance between the journey of the five astronauts to Mars, and their individual stories in the present and past. A connection that is developed between the two by the makers in each episode never lets the narrative of the show become too linear. The brilliant acting and dialogue delivery make their stories emotionally powerful and we end up rooting for them the whole time.

'Away' has a total of 10 episodes that are roughly 50 minutes long. It might not be the best idea to binge-watch this series because honestly, it does get a bit heavy at times. But, other than that, each episode of the show is beautifully made and has something different to offer to the audiences. The VFX used is also impressive. For instance, visuals of the launch, scenes showing the ground at the Moon and also a space-walk done by the astronauts. A special mention to the music of the show, which adds to the occasional tense or relaxing environment of the scenes without ever becoming too overpowering.

Netflix's show 'Away' is a must-watch for the thrilling space journey to Mars and the raw human emotions we get to see of the crew members.
