AFP cited a source connected with Hamas to report that talks were going on to secure the release of about a dozen hostages currently in Hamas custody for a temporary truce.

"I'd like to put to rest all kinds of false rumours we're hearing from all kinds of directions, and reiterate one clear thing: there will be no ceasefire without the release of our hostages," Netanyahu said.

Hamas has reportedly said that the discussion over a temporary pause in fighting was "to enable Egypt an extended (period of time) to deliver humanitarian aid" and for the release of 12 hostages.

In the attack, the child's 32-year-old mother also suffered several stabbing wounds and had to be hospitalised.

Similarly, there have been reports of several disturbing spillovers and prejudices against Muslims and Jews. This includes reports of university students beating up their classmates, tearing down posters of Israeli children taken hostage, and more.

US President Joe Biden has nudged Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a 3-day pause in fighting and has said that such a pause may help in securing the release of hostages currently in Hamas custody, Axios reported on Tuesday (November 7) citing US and Israeli officials. The report said that a proposal being discussed between the US, Israel and Qatar would require Hamas to release 10-15 hostages and use the three-day pause to verify the identities of all hostages after which it will give a list of names of these people.

The White House has already said&nbsp;that Biden and Netanyahu have discussed "the possibility of tactical pauses to provide civilians with opportunities to safely depart from areas of ongoing fighting, to ensure assistance is reaching civilians in need, and to enable potential hostage releases."

In public, however, Netanyahu has vehemently maintained that no ceasefire was possible until all hostages were freed.

"Children have been ripped from their families and held hostage. In Gaza, ICRC surgeons treat toddlers whose skin is charred from widespread burns," the organisation's president Mirjana Spoljaric said.

"This is a moral failing," she added.
