DGP Singh said, "We are offering a cash reward of up to ₹5 lakhs ($6,000) for any credible information regarding those who made, transported, and planted these IED-like devices."

ULFA (I) stated that the explosions were planned for Thursday (August 15) between 6:00 am&nbsp;and 12:00 pm (local time), but due to a "technical failure," the bombs did not detonate. The group has now requested public assistance in safely defusing the explosives.

On Friday (August 16), authorities discovered two more 'IED-like devices' in Guwahati, bringing the total number of 'bomb-like substances' seized across the state in the past 24 hours to 10, according to officials.

A minor&nbsp;from Lakhimpur was taken into custody&nbsp;for questioning. Authorities carried out searches in various locations to find explosives, including the Panitola residence in the Tinsukia district, belonging to Anup Chetia, a former self-proclaimed general secretary of the group who signed a peace agreement with the government last year, according to officials.

"We are 100 per cent sure that the case will be cracked. We want to assure the public that no one will be allowed to disrupt peace," he&nbsp;added.

He said that four cases have been filed in Guwahati, with investigators working alongside a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the guidance of the city police commissioner.

No injuries were reported in the incident. However, the collapse of a part of the ceiling prompted the airport to briefly halt its operations. Six flights were diverted to other destinations.

The Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah told Press Trust of India that the storm uprooted a big tree at the Oil India complex outside the airport. The wall's collapse also blocked a road.

"It was very old and could not withstand the impact. Due to this, the ceiling broke open and water started flowing inside. However, there was no injury and everything is under control," he said.

Baruah also said that water entered the terminal from the ceiling.

The flights operated by IndiGo and legacy carriers Air India and Air India Express were diverted to Agartala and Kolkata. Following the resumption of visibility, airport operations resumed at the Guwahati airport. The flights are landing and taking off from the airport with reported normalcy at the time of filing this report.

A research team from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),&nbsp;Guwahati, has successfully developed a fast and cost-effective 3D printed device to detect specific bacteria that cause urinary tract infection (UTI).

The research team&nbsp;led by Dr&nbsp;Partho Sarathi Gooh Pattader, an associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Guwahati,&nbsp;created this device that can accurately detect specific bacteria causing UTI.&nbsp;

Explaining the mechanism, Pattader said that the equipment can detect the type of bacteria within a few minutes of conducting the test.

"We have used gold nanoparticles with specifically engineered aptamers. An aptamer is like a 3D puzzle piece that fits only on the surface of a particular bacteria. The gold nanoparticles thus get agglomerated on the surface of the target bacteria giving out a unique signature that can be detected by a UV- Visible Spectrophotometer," Pattader told WION.

Not only that, the test is also gaining popularity because of its affordable nature and cost efficiency. The average manufacturing cost of a UTI analyser is Rs 75,000 ( $910 approx.),while testing a sample costs around Rs 800 rupees ($10 approx.).

However, the estimated cost of manufacturing the device is Rs 608 ($7 approx.) and sample testing will cost Rs&nbsp;8 only, Pattader added.&nbsp;

When asked about the force motivating them to conduct such research, Pattader told WION that since UTI is very common nowadays, they wanted to develop a frugal device that can detect the actual cause of UTI, which is largely affecting the women in rural areas.

UTI, though a common disease, is not inevitable.&nbsp;Pattader said that the prevention of UTI lies in maintaining proper hygiene and drinking plenty of water. If one has already encountered UTI, tests should be conducted to detect it as early as possible.&nbsp;

Prominently, UTI is caused due to various bacteria: 80 per cent of cases of UTI is due to E. Coli bacteria, while about 17 per cent is due to K. Pneumoniae, 30 per cent&nbsp;is due to S. Aureus, and about 2 per cent is due to E. Faecalis bacteria.&nbsp;

"In our study, we have shown how to detect K. Pneumoniae and as the method is generic, we have also demonstrated it for S. Aureus. Thus this prototype device with little modification can be used for other bacteria detection as well. And this device can not only detect&nbsp;but also quantify the concentration of the bacteria," Pattader&nbsp;said.

Assam ministers Ashok Singhal and Pijush Hazarika on Sunday visited the luxury hotel in Guwahati, where dissident Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde is camping with other MLAs from Maharashtra, and held a series of discussions with them, sources said.

This is the third time in two days that Singhal, the Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, has met the dissidents. On Saturday, he went to the hotel twice and held discussions with Shinde and the other rebel MLAs.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while returning from the airport after assessing the flood situation in Silchar, stopped for a few minutes at Gotanagar area on the NH-37, where the Radisson Blu hotel is situated.

His convoy stopped on the opposite side of the Radisson Blu and he greeted the journalists, who have been reporting from outside the closed gates of the hotel. He then left the place.

A source told PTI that Hazarika, the Parliament Affairs Minister of Assam, went to the hotel in the morning and was there for about two hours.

"Singhal reached the hotel around 11 am. Hazarika had left before Singhal went," he added.

Some security personnel of Hazarika waited outside when he was holding the meeting with the Shinde camp.

Singhal's SUV along with his security was seen entering the hotel after Hazarika's convoy left the place.

It is, however, not immediately known what Singhal and Hazarika discussed with the rebel Shiv Sena legislators and Independent MLAs from the western state.

Another source close to the development said that Singhal had gone to the hotel on Saturday afternoon as well as in the night and held discussions.

When contacted, Singhal confirmed to PTI that he went to the hotel on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, but declined to share details. He did not mention the Saturday night's visit.

A close associate of the minister said, "He went there to meet an MLA whom he knew."

Hazarika remained unavailable for comments.

Significantly, these meetings took place hours after 16 dissident Shiv Sena MLAs were sent disqualification notices.

The BJP, which once had an alliance with the Shiv Sena, has so far brushed its hands off from the present political turmoil in Maharashtra.

Despite sending a party MP and an MLA to receive the Maharashtra legislators at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati on June 22, Chief Minister Sarma claimed that they arrived here as guests on their own.

The Assam Police has taken over the security from the private guards of the hotel and is not allowing anyone to enter the premises.

The Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat on Saturday issued 'summons' to 16 of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, including Shinde, seeking written replies by the evening of June 27 to the complaints seeking their disqualification.

After receiving the summons, the Shiv Sena MLAs have been huddling inside the hotel Since Sunday morning, sources said.

Waitress Palki at Guwahati's Uruka restaurant is the talk of the town. The humanoid robot unveiled at the women-run eatery recently has been a hit with patrons, especially the younger generation who enjoy the novelty of being served by her.

Robot Palki has been designed by S N Farid, the husband of the restaurant's owner Karishma Begum.

"This restaurant is being run by a group of women and I am trying to create new fusion cuisine, especially for the young generation. We serve a welcome drink and unlimited starters to our customers. Then, we serve the Assam's tradition food buffet. Recently, I introduced a robot, Palki in order to attract the customers," said Karishma Begum, the owner of Uruka restaurant.

The restaurant specialises in ethnic cuisine and keeping with the theme waitress Palki also dons the traditional Satriya attire.

"I really like this place, the hospitality received here is remarkable. The food is quite delicious here. The robot waitress is quite interesting; it's a new thing for me. She served us delicious food. I haven't seen this kind of robot in other restaurants," said a customer.

Notably, proprietor of the restaurant Farid says he is also working on three more similar robot projects. Humanoid robots are seen to be a trend worldwide.&nbsp;

Two men came on a motorcycle and threw a grenade in front of the shopping mall at arterial R G Baruah Road just opposite the zoo at around 8 pm, Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar told PTI.

"As per the preliminary report, six persons were injured. I am on my way to the spot now," he said.

All the injured have been taken to hospital, police said.

Assam Government Friday said the state capital will be connected to six capital cities of South Asian countries by the end of December to boost connectivity in the region.

While inaugurating the ASEAN section of the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF), Assam Act East Policy Affairs Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary said films are bridges between two cultures.

"We are very focused to increase connectivity between South Asia. In this direction, Guwahati will be connected with six capital cities of South Asian nations by the end of December," he said addressing the gathering.

Patowary also informed that an inter-country pact was signed yesterday to augment waterways in the region.

"A tri-lateral highway has also been planned and construction is almost done. The bridges are only left. This will be from Afghanistan to Burma (Myanmar) via India," he added.

The initiatives like the GIFF are very positive in the cultural arena that will help know each other, the minister said.

"We are trying to develop the relation between India and South East Asian countries in the field of trade, commerce and other segments. GIFF can play an important role in that direction," he added.

During the inauguration of the ASEAN segment, the Myanmar Ambassador to India, Moe Kyaw Aung was also present.

In this year, the ASEAN countries are the focus region of the 2nd GIFF with 14 films from 10 countries of the region instead of having any focus country.

The ASEAN segment began with showing of 'In the Life of Music' by Caylee So and Sok Visal.

Some other films from the South East Asian nations will be 'Woman of the Weeping River' by Sheron Dayoc, 'The Seen and Unseen' by Kamila Andini, 'Father and Son' by Luong Dinh Dung, 'Poppy Goes to Hollywood' by Sok Visal and 'Smaller and Smaller Circles' by Raya Martin and 'Mudras Calling' by Christina Kyi.

The 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival began with much fanfare on Thursday with a collection of 108 acclaimed films from over 50 countries that is likely to attract nearly 5,000 domestic and foreign delegates in the next one week.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the seven-day long film extravaganza saying that the festival is aimed to integrate the world as a family.

The ceremony was also attended by Lithuanian Ambassador Julius Pranevicius, Serbian Ambassador Vladimir Maric and Latvian Ambassador designated Artis Bertulis.

During the festival, nearly 35 film personalities from abroad will take part with their flicks, while Ambassadors from Lithuania, Myanmar, Argentina, Latvia, Estonia, Serbia, Singapore and Malaysia will be present.

The Assam government-owned Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society is the organiser of the festival, which will be held from October 25 to 31, in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute.

Four people have been injured including a woman in Guwahati after an explosion rocked the nearby area of Shukleshwa r Ghat&nbsp;on Saturday, ANI reported.
