The White House affirms President Trump's determination to acquire Greenland as a national security priority, undeterred by NATO's recent military exercises in the Arctic region.

Trump's Greenland Quest: NATO Won't Deter White House

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that a conflict over Greenland would "spell catastrophe for the Western world" and "end of the world as we know it". Tensions have been rising rapidly over Donald Trump's constant push to take over the Arctic island, claiming the US needs it for its safety and security. Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, and there has been a "fundamental disagreement" between Trump’s administration and its European allies. Soldiers from France and Germany have started arriving in Greenland, with Norway and Sweden set to send their troops as well. However, Tusk has categorically stated that his country would not send soldiers to Greenland, stating that any aggression between NATO allies would shatter the foundations of global security. "An attempt to take over (part of) a NATO member state by another NATO member state would be a political disaster," Tusk told reported. "It would be the end of the world as we know it, which guaranteed a world based on NATO solidarity, which held back the evil forces associated with communist terror or other forms of aggression," he added. Denmark has also warned that an attack on Greenland would mark the end of NATO. Trump has suggested that he is open to all options to take control of Greenland. He claims that Russia and China are vying to take control of the island, and so the US has to have control of the land. Also Read: ‘Last days have been tough...’: Greenland’s FM breaks down on live interview amid Trump’s threats – WATCH White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also said that the presence of European troops in the Danish autonomous territory did not alter his "goal of the acquisition of Greenland". White House Says Trump’s Priorities Show US Interest in Greenland

Greenland’s foreign minister teared up while describing the “intense pressure” of US President Donald Trump’s threats to take over Denmark’s autonomous territory. This amid repeated threats made by the Trump administration, which has not ruled out a military intervention to acquire the Arctic island. Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen earlier held talks with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House on Wednesday (Jan 14) that ended in “fundamental disagreement”.“We have been working very hard in our department, even though there are not many of us,” Motzfeldt told national broadcaster KNR following the talks. “I would not normally like to say these words, but I will say them: we are very strong. We are doing our utmost. But the last days, naturally...”Motzfeldt then briefly broke down during the interview as she held back tears and said, “Oh, I am getting very emotional. I am overwhelmed. The last days have been tough. Our preparations and the increasing pressure, that has been intense.”She further stressed that the government of Greenland was “strong” and vowed to work “to ensure the Greenlandic people in our country can feel safe and live securely.” She added, “We are using all our strength to achieve this as we continue the work.”

Trump also addressed the fears raised by Denmark, saying, "I'm a fan of Denmark, too, I have to tell you. And you know, they've been very nice to me…But you know, the fact that they had a boat land there 500 years ago doesn't mean that they own the land." Notably, Trump talks about seizing Greenland - autonomous territory of ‍the Kingdom of Denmark with a population of 57,000 - despite already having military presence on the island under a 1951 agreement.
