US President Donald Trump in an interview excerpt released on Monday (Feb 10) said that Palestinians would not have the right to return to Gaza under his proposal for the United States to assume control of the region.
"No, they wouldn’t, because they’re going to have much better housing. In other words, I’m talking about building a permanent place for them," Trump told Bret Baier of Fox News when asked if Palestinians would be allowed to return.

Previously, while speaking aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to having the US acquire Gaza once its Palestinians had either left or been removed. He suggested that reconstruction efforts could be led by other nations in the region.
"I’m committed to buying and owning Gaza. As far as us rebuilding it, we may give it to other states in the Middle East to build sections of it. Other people may do it through our auspices. But we’re committed to owning it, taking it, and making sure that Hamas doesn’t move back. There’s nothing to move back into. The place is a demolition site. The remainder will be demolished," he told reporters.

Last week, Trump detailed his plan, which involved the US taking control of Gaza, relocating its Palestinian population elsewhere, and transforming the region into the "Riviera of the Middle East." He introduced the plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said that the idea was "worth listening carefully to."
The proposal has been widely criticised by both Western and Arab allies. The United Nations Chief described it as 'ethnic cleansing' of Gaza.

Trump reaffirms plan to ‘buy and own’ war-torn Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hailed US President Donald Trump's widely criticised plan to move Palestinians out of the war-battered Gaza Strip, saying Israel is willing to "do the job".
In a Fox News interview aired late Saturday as the premier was wrapping up a visit to Washington, Netanyahu defended Trump's proposal, which has sparked concern and condemnation across the Middle East and the world.
"I think that President Trump's proposal is the first fresh idea in years, and it has the potential to change everything in Gaza," Netanyahu said, adding that it represents a "correct approach" to the future of the Palestinian territory.

"All Trump is saying, 'I want to open the gate and give them an option to relocate temporarily while we rebuild the place physically'," Netanyahu said.
Trump "never said he wants American troops to do the job. Guess what? We'll do the job," Netanyahu declared.
Israel seized the Gaza Strip in 1967 and maintained a military presence in the territory until 2005, when it pulled out settlers and its troops.
It subsequently imposed a crippling blockade on the Hamas-ruled territory and placed it under siege after the war began in October 2023.
Israel and armed groups in Gaza have fought several wars in recent years, but the latest – sparked by the unprecedented 2023 Hamas attack on Israel – has been the deadliest and most destructive.
Netanyahu said Trump's plan was a departure from the "same old, same old, same old – we leave, Gaza becomes again occupied by these terrorists who use it as a base to attack Israel... It doesn't go anywhere."
"I think we should pursue it," he added, cautioning that "the real issue" was finding a country that would agree to take in displaced Gazans.

The Israeli leader also said that relocated Palestinians would have to "disavow terrorism" to be allowed to return to Gaza.
For Palestinians, any attempts to force them out of Gaza would evoke dark memories of what the Arab world calls the "Nakba", or catastrophe – the mass displacement of Palestinians during Israel's creation in 1948.
"Everybody describes Gaza as the biggest open-air prison in the world," Netanyahu said.
"Get the population out, allow them to leave. Not forcible eviction, not ethnic cleansing – getting people out of what all these countries and all these do-gooders say is an open-air prison. Why are you keeping them in prison?"

Israel's defense minister orders IDF to prepare for Palestinians to leave Gaza

Israel's defence minister ordered the army on Thursday to prepare for "voluntary" departures from Gaza, as US President Donald Trump ruled out sending American troops to the territory.
Trump had earlier proposed moving Palestinians out of Gaza, sparking uproar from leaders in the Middle East and beyond.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said he instructed the military to formulate a plan for Palestinians to leave Gaza, which has been ravaged by more than a year of war.
"I have instructed the IDF (military) to prepare a plan to enable voluntary departure for Gaza residents," Katz said, adding they could go "to any country willing to accept them".

Trump announced his proposal for Gaza to audible gasps on Tuesday at a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the first foreign leader to visit the White House since the inauguration.
The United Nations warned any forced displacement of Palestinians would be "tantamount to ethnic cleansing". Trump insisted "everybody loves" the plan, saying it would involve the United States taking over Gaza.
Arab nations, however, firmly rejected it, and the US president offered few details on how more than two million Palestinians would be removed.
His administration later appeared to backtrack, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying any transfer of Gazans would be temporary. But Trump doubled down on Thursday.
"The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel after fighting," he said on his Truth Social platform. "No soldiers by the US would be needed! Stability for the region would reign!!!"
Rubio will pay his first visit to the Middle East as secretary of state later this month, visiting Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar from February 13, a senior US State Department official said Thursday.
The top US diplomat has said those denouncing Trump's proposal should "step forward and provide a solution".

Even before Tuesday's announcements, Trump had suggested residents of Gaza should move to Egypt and Jordan, both of which have flatly rejected any resettlement of Palestinians on their territory.

Israel backs Trump plan, orders army to plan to let Palestinians leave Gaza

A photo of Donald Trump's chief of staff Susie Wiles staring with wide eyes as the US president announced his plan to "take over" the Gaza Strip has gone viral with the internet claiming even she was not ready for what Trump said. On Tuesday (Feb 4), Trump announced his plan for Gaza in a bilateral press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site ... level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings," Trump said in his announcement.
Netanyahu praised Trump for his plan, saying, "You see things others refuse to see, You say things others refuse to say."

Trump, in a White House news conference on Tuesday along with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, proposed "long-term ownership" of Gaza by the United States, days after another shock suggestion, that the territory's residents should move to Jordan or Egypt.

Trump also floated the idea of creating "the Riviera of the Middle East" in a rebuilt Gaza, but for Palestinians, the most crucial part of his proposal had to do with their feared displacement.
Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz told its military to prepare a plan to "allow Gazans who wish to leave to do so."
Katz said Gazans should have "freedom of movement and migration" and countries critical of Israel's war with Hamas were "obligated" to take them in.

"I have instructed the IDF (military) to prepare a plan to enable voluntary departure for Gaza residents," he said.
He added that the plan could help Gaza citizens who wish to leave their home country to "integrate optimally in host countries, and also facilitate the advancement of reconstruction programmes for a demilitarised, threat-free Gaza".

U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement about the United States “taking over” Gaza and turning it into the “Riviera of the Middle East” has sent shockwaves across the globe. While this proposal may have been music to the ears of Israeli right-wing factions, it has been widely criticized as impractical, poorly thought-out, and potentially damaging to U.S. interests in the region. Additionally, Trump has reiterated his stance on ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, a policy that could have significant geopolitical consequences. This article explores the feasibility, reactions, and broader implications of Trump’s statements on Gaza and Iran, analysing how they could reshape the Middle East and impact America’s global reputation.

Trump’s Statement on Gaza: A Lottery for Israeli Hardliners but a Diplomatic Nightmare

In a dramatic declaration, Trump suggested that the U.S. should take control of Gaza, relocate its two million Palestinian residents to neighbouring countries, and develop the area into a luxurious tourist hub. The idea appears to cater to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and right-wing politicians who have long viewed Gaza as a security threat and believe in establishing ‘Greater Israel’ from Jordan River to Mediterranean Sea.
However, the proposal is riddled with flaws. First, there is virtually no international support for such a plan. No major political power—outside of hardliners in Israel—has endorsed it. Even within the U.S., the proposal has received lukewarm support at best. The logistical challenges of relocating millions of Palestinians and constructing an economic paradise in a war-torn region are enormous, requiring years of investment and a cooperative environment—both of which are currently absent.

International and Regional Reactions: Unified Opposition

The reaction to Trump’s proposal has been overwhelmingly negative as seen from global responses
Palestinian Leaders. Hamas and the Palestinian Authority have outright rejected the idea, calling it an imperialistic attempt to erase Palestinian identity. Gaza’s population remains hostile to external control, making the prospect of a peaceful transition unlikely.

Arab Nations. Key U.S. allies like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt have condemned the proposal. These nations have made it clear that Palestinians should not be forcibly displaced and that any solution must involve Palestinian sovereignty. Saudi Arabia, in particular, has warned that such a move could derail ongoing normalization talks with Israel. There have been statements from Jordan to prepare for a possibility of war with Israel!
International Community. The United Nations and world powers, including Germany, China, and Brazil, have criticized the plan, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres warning against potential ethnic cleansing. The European Union has also stressed that forced displacement of Palestinians would be a violation of international law.
U.S. Political Response. Domestically, Trump’s statement has divided opinions. Some members of the Republican Party, particularly staunch pro-Israel advocates, have shown some support, while Democrats have condemned the idea as reckless. Military experts, recalling past U.S. failures in hostile territories such as Vietnam and Afghanistan, have also raised serious concerns.
Given this overwhelming pushback, it is likely that Trump will soon modify or even retract his statement, as he has done with previous controversial positions.

The Practicality of the Gaza Takeover: A Pipe Dream?

From a practical standpoint, Trump’s vision is nearly impossible to implement. The sheer scale of forcibly relocating an entire population is unprecedented and would likely provoke strong resistance, not just from the people of Gaza but also from surrounding nations. Furthermore, transforming Gaza into a “Middle Eastern Riviera” would require massive financial investment and long-term stability—two things Gaza currently lacks.
Moreover, the idea of U.S. military involvement in Gaza is unrealistic. The U.S. has learned hard lessons from wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam: occupying hostile land without the population’s support is a losing battle. Trump, despite his aggressive rhetoric, has historically been cautious about direct military confrontations, as seen when he refrained from attacking Iran, even after Tehran bombed a U.S. base in retaliation for the killing of General Qassem Soleimani.

While Trump’s plan is unlikely to materialize, the damage is already done—his statement has further inflamed tensions in the Middle East and could lead to unintended consequences, including a resurgence of Arab unity around the Palestinian cause, something which even Hamas failed to achieve through blatant terrorist attack!!

Trump’s Iran Strategy: How Will He Prevent a Nuclear Weapon?

In addition to his Gaza remarks, Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. His approach will likely rely on a combination of diplomatic pressure, economic sanctions, and military deterrence.
Reviving “Maximum Pressure” Sanctions. Trump is expected to reintroduce his “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, which would include Increasing economic sanctions to cripple Iran’s economy, Blocking Iranian oil exports and financial transactions and Isolating Iran diplomatically to force a return to negotiations. However, this strategy has its limits. Iran has previously resisted such pressure, opting instead to escalate its nuclear program rather than negotiate under duress.
Covert Operations and Cyber Warfare. The U.S. and Israel have previously used cyberwarfare, such as the Stuxnet virus, to sabotage Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Trump’s administration may continue this approach, possibly targeting key facilities and Iranian nuclear scientists to slow down progress.
Military Threats and Deterrence. While Trump has avoided direct military confrontations with Iran in the past, he may resort to targeted strikes on Iranian nuclear sites if intelligence suggests imminent weaponization. However, such action risks Iranian retaliation, potentially escalating into a regional conflict. Tehran has a vast network of proxies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and militias in Iraq and Yemen, that could target U.S. interests across the Middle East. Most importantly, Iran has been preparing for such a contingency.
Diplomatic Gambit: A “Better Deal” with Iran? Trump has long criticized the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) as weak, but he has also expressed interest in negotiating a “better deal.” He may attempt to pressure Iran into a more restrictive agreement. However, Iran’s leadership has shown little inclination to engage in talks, particularly after Trump unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA during his first term.

Implications of Trump’s Foreign Policy Approach

Trump’s aggressive stance on both Gaza and Iran could have profound implications:
Increased U.S.-Middle East tensions: His policies could alienate Arab allies and provoke Iran into further escalation.
Geopolitical realignment: Countries like Russia and China could step in to support Iran and Palestinian factions, counterbalancing U.S. influence.
Domestic fallout: Trump’s foreign policy could become a major talking point with opponents arguing that his approach makes the U.S. less safe.
Conclusion: More Rhetoric than Reality?
Trump’s bold claims about taking over Gaza and stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions have certainly grabbed headlines, but their feasibility remains highly questionable. The Gaza proposal lacks global support and would be nearly impossible to implement without provoking widespread conflict. Meanwhile, Trump’s Iran policy will likely rely on economic and covert pressure rather than outright war.
Ultimately, Trump’s statements may serve more as political rhetoric than actual policy directives. However, they have already intensified tensions in an already volatile Middle East—whether this benefits or harms U.S. interests remains to be seen.

Trump’s Gaza takeover plan and non-nuclear Iran: A game-changer or a political fantasy?

US President Donald Trump vowed that the United States would "take over" and "own" the Gaza Strip and deploy American troops in the region if necessary. Trump's surprising statement came during a joint press briefing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday (Feb 4). Watch in for more details!

PM Netanyahu, Israelis welcome Trump's plan to empty out Gaza

US President Donald Trump's recent announcement about his intention to 'take over' Gaza has sparked a wave of backlash and highlighted several significant challenges. Take a look:

Palestinian connection to Gaza

Trump's plan overlooks the deep-rooted connection Palestinians have to Gaza. Riyad Mansour, Palestine’s envoy to the UN, made it clear: "Our homeland is our homeland," adding that Palestinians should be allowed to return to their original homes inside Israel if needed.

Strong Arab opposition

Arab nations have strongly opposed Trump's proposal. Countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE condemned the plan, insisting that it undermines Palestinian rights.

One of the most controversial aspects of Trump's plan is sending US troops to Gaza, a move that would contradict his campaign promise of avoiding foreign military conflicts.

Violation of international law

Trump’s proposal would violate international law, specifically the rights of people under occupation. Experts note that control over Gaza can only be transferred with the consent of the sovereign authority, and neither Israel nor the Palestinian Authority can legally cede Gaza to the US.

Five key barriers to Trump’s Gaza control plan

Hamas' secret documents have been recovered by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), making shocking allegations against the Palestinian militant group as it revealed that the group tortured and executed their own "terrorists" who allegedly had same-sex relations, the New York Post reported.
According to the report, the Hamas militants have also had same-sex relations with male Israeli victims of the October 7 attack, raping them while holding them hostages.
The documents showed 94 Hamas recruits, charged with homosexual conversations, flirting with girls without a legal relationship and sodomy."

Hamas reportedly had a list of recruits who failed to comply with its "morality checks" by engaging in homosexuality for which, they had to pay a heavy price.
Moreover, some of the charges also included child rape and torture.
The allegations further involved recruits to Hamas' intelligence, army, and the outfit's interior ministry.
They said that the new members were eventually dismissed as "unacceptable" by the group due to their actions.

One of the allegations said, "He (one of the accused Hamas fighters) constantly curses God. Information was received that he sexually harassed a young child," the New York Post reported.
According to the report, another alleged, "He has romantic relationships on Facebook. He never prays. He is behaviourally and morally deviant," it said, using Hamas' word for gay.
However, it is unclear what happened to these "unacceptable" Hamas recruits, but is known that homosexuality is illegal in Gaza and can put you in prison for years, or even death.
In 2016, former Hamas commander Mahmoud Ishtiwi was executed after he was accused of engaging in homosexuality.
His confession and testimony of the brutality that he faced were also mentioned in the secret documents.
Hamas executed Ishtiwi by shooting three bullets in his chest after keeping him in prison and torturing him for around a year.

The New York Post reported that he was also hung by his hands and legs for hours during his time in prison.
In the documents, religious leaders said, "Committing the crime of sodomy in a hideous manner while he is married to two women. This is more heinous than adultery and it has been described as obscenity in the Quran more than once. Sodomy receives its punishment at the very least, which is stoning to death."

Hamas 'tortured, executed' own fighters over same-sex relations, secret documents reveal: Report

Trump aims to make Gaza great again. However, his vision does not align with what Palestinians would envision as greatness. Trump has announced his plans for post-war Gaza, which include the U.S. taking control of the Palestinian enclave. This would mean displacing the already war-torn Palestinians and transforming the small coastal territory into what he describes as the "Riviera of the Middle East." Is this Trump's concept of peace, or is it merely a colonial fantasy? And what does this mean for the Palestinians who have already lost everything?
