Mick Schumacher, son of Formula1 legend Michael Schumacher, suffered a horrific crash during qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday (March 26).&nbsp;

Schumacher crashed heavily into a concrete barrier at high speed and was airlifted to the hospital for precautionary checks.&nbsp;

The son of a seven-time world champion lost control of his Haas car after appearing to clip a kerb at Turn Nine and then went straight into the wall.&nbsp;

A sigh of relief, as the 23-year-old German driver insisted that he is 'OK' but he will not take part in Sunday's Saudi Arabian GP. Haas confirmed Mick has been released from the hospital and has returned to his hotel.&nbsp;

The driver himself tweeted later: "Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that I'm ok. Thank you for the kind messages. The car felt great @HaasF1Team, we'll come back stronger."&nbsp;

The crash was so impactful, two wheels were torn away from the car during the Q2 session. A medical crew arrived to take him from his badly damaged car to the medical centre at the Jeddah Street Circuit.&nbsp;

As per reports, he was conscious and speaking. He was reported to have been able to remove his own gloves as he departed in an ambulance.&nbsp;

"We've heard that Mick is conscious, out of the car and currently on his way to the medical centre," tweeted the Haas team.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

The session was red-flagged after the estimated 240kh accident in which the rear of the Haas car was split away from the main body.&nbsp;

Haas said they will run just one car in Sunday's race with Kevin Magnussen carrying their hopes. "Schumacher was taken to the trackside medical centre following a significant accident at Turn 12," said Haas in a statement.&nbsp;

"After his assessment revealed no injuries, he was transferred to King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah for precautionary checks. The team has subsequently taken the decision to contest the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with the sole entry of Kevin Magnussen," the statement added.&nbsp;

Daniel Ricciardo has tested positive for COVID-19, but is set to complete his isolation in time for Formula 1's 2022 season-opening race in Bahrain.

The McLaren driver felt unwell on Wednesday, the day before running at the Bahrain International Circuit began, and initially returned negative tests.

However on Friday, after day two of the test was completed, McLaren revealed the Australian has now returned a positive PCR test.

The team say he is continuing to isolate in accordance with local regulations.

They added: "Under these regulations, Daniel will be released in time for next weekend's Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Daniel is already beginning to feel better, and we wish him well for a quick recovery."

Norris will drive all day on Saturday - the final day of the test - having fulfilled driving duties on the opening two days, where McLaren struggled with brake issues and managed just over 100 laps in total.

Italy's Enzo e Dino Ferrari International Circuit in Imola, will remain part of the Formula 1 calendar until 2025.

This follows two successful Grands Prix in Imola during the pandemic and the inclusion of the race in the 2022 championship.

Imola first hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 but subsequently became the San Marino Grand Prix venue from 1981-2006.

The circuit returned as a Formula 1 venue for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2020.

Sebastian Vettel said Formula One drivers had not been consulted about the sport’s plans to do away with the pre-race slot for taking the knee, and suggested the decision may have been taken for business reasons.

Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali told Sky Sports earlier this week that the sport would no longer set time aside for drivers to take the knee ahead of races, as it looks to introduce more concrete actions to combat racism.

The drivers typically used the pre-race moment, introduced in 2020, to support causes of their choice or Formula One’s broader "We Race As One" diversity, inclusion and sustainability platform.

"The issues that we are tackling are not going to be gone within two years,” said four-times champion Vettel ahead of the launch of his new 2022 Aston Martin challenger.

“Therefore I was a bit surprised. Probably it was getting a bit too strong and too individual for the business side of it.”

Domenicali said the "We Race As One" platform would continue with a video that preceded drivers taking the knee still being broadcast and branding for the initiative visible at race tracks.&nbsp;

Vettel, who like seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is a staunch advocate for social justice, racial equality and environmental sustainability, was among those to kneel.

He hoped drivers would still find a way to display their support for the issues they cared about.

“I hope that as drivers we find a way to get together and find a slot for still expressing topics that are important to us,” said the 34-year-old.&nbsp;

“Probably not all the drivers care but I think there are some that really do care.”

He replaces 75-year-old Frenchman Jean Todt, who is retiring after three terms of office.

On Sunday (December 12), the Red Bull's driver Max Verstappen edged past the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in a nail-biting end to the Formula One season. The race was thoroughly dominated by&nbsp;Hamilton in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, however, the 24-year-old Belgian-Dutch racing driver&nbsp;Verstappen went ahead of his competitor in the final lap to prevent Hamilton from claiming&nbsp;his eighth F1 World title.

For the unversed, Hamilton was on the cusp of lifting his eighth title before&nbsp;Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi crashed his Williams just four laps before the last one, leading to the appearance of the safety car.

Securing pole capped a dramatic day for seven-time champion&nbsp;Hamilton.

He escaped a sanction for yellow flag incidents in Saturday practice after being summoned over an alleged failure to slow under double waved yellow flags, and for blocking the Haas of Nikita Mazepin.

However, the Mercedes star was cleared of any wrongdoing after the stewards admitted that a double-waved yellow light panel had been activated accidentally.

Mercedes were fined 25,000 euros for the second incident.

Lower down the order, Ferrari could wrap up third place in the constructors' standings ahead of McLaren.

The Italians are 39.5 points clear of their Woking-based rivals with a maximum 44 points up for grabs after the race in Jeddah.

"I never thought we would close the gap like we did today - just never give up and never stop fighting. It feels like a first as I haven't had a win for a long time."

Verstappen said: "We tried everything we could today, it was a good battle but at the end we missed a little pace. But it was good fun.

"We still have a decent lead so today was a bit of damage limitation. I'm confident, in the coming races we will come back stronger."

Hamilton&nbsp;was on target to get a point for the fastest lap until Red Bull hauled in Sergio Perez for a change of tyres to his car in a move that duly paid off.

US&nbsp;motor racing entrepreneur Michael Andretti said on Thursday that 'control issues' had led to the collapse of takeover talks with the owners of Sauber, who run the Alfa Romeo Formula One team.

Andretti -- a former IndyCar champion, F1 racer and son of 1978 Formula One world champion Mario -- had been in advanced talks with Sauber ahead of last month's US&nbsp;Grand Prix in Austin.

"I'd just like to put an end to some of these rumours that the deal fell through because of financial reasons," the Andretti Autosport boss told reporters after announcing rookie Devlin DeFrancesco as his latest IndyCar signing.

"That couldn't be further from the truth. It had nothing to do with that.

"It basically came down to control issues in the final hours of the negotiations. That's what killed the deal," said the American, who has long wanted to add a Formula One team to his motorsport activities.

Swiss-based Sauber were bought by investment firm Longbow Finance in 2016, with Islero Investments taking control of Sauber Holdings in 2018. Islero are linked to Swedish billionaire Finn Rausing.

Andretti has interests in IndyCar, the electric Formula E and Extreme E series as well as sportscars.

Ferrari-powered Alfa, ninth in the standings, have signed Finland's Valtteri Bottas from reigning champions Mercedes for 2022 but have yet to confirm their full lineup.

The 36-year-old German, who spent much of his career flying around the world to race cars powered by fossil fuels before quitting in 2016, now promotes green technology and sustainability as an eco-entrepreneur.

An investor in the electric Formula E championship, and team owner in the off-road electric Extreme E series as well as a founder of Greentech Festival, Rosberg will be at the COP26 climate change conference that starts in Glasgow next week.

"The mobility industry is an extremely big emitter at the moment. It’s a big problem and motorsports can play a role as always in shifting the industry in the right direction," he told Reuters.

"If you have this race-to-road transfer of progress that’s perfect, that’s where motorsports has to be."

While Formula E and Extreme E have promoted electric cars, Formula One is working to banish the old gas-guzzling stereotypes and address its relevance to a world focused on clean energy.

It aims to achieve a net zero-carbon footprint by 2030, with 100% sustainable fuels introduced long before and a ban on single-use plastics.

Asked how that squared with an expanding global F1 calendar, with a record 23 races next year, Rosberg looked to future technology.

"If we want to make sure that we have zero negative impact, then we need to live in a cave," he said.

"So I’m of the opinion that it’s fine to go out there and continue doing what so many people around the world love watching, but make sure that it’s used for the benefit of everybody.

"In 2030 maybe we’ll have synthetic fuels in the planes which Formula One will help develop. Synthetic fuels or hydrogen planes or whatever.

"I think there’s going to be huge progress and hopefully we’ll be able to really have a carbon neutral sport."

The Rosberg X Racing team lead Extreme E after last weekend`s round in Sardinia, held against a background of scorched landscapes and some of the Mediterranean island`s worst forest fires.

The SUV series aims to highlight the effects of climate change and promote sustainability by racing in locations already showing signs of damage and stress, from the glaciers of Greenland to the deserts of Saudi Arabia.

Rosberg said the team and sponsors had handed over 39,000 euros ($45,228.30) to help local families in Sardinia who had lost their homes and livelihoods pay for food, medicines and essential supplies.

That gave Leclerc the lead but as his tyres faded so did his pace and the Finn soon reclaimed the lead, going on to take his first win in over a year.&nbsp;

"We are in a phase of assessment how to continue this season in terms of power units," added the Austrian. Adding to the concern, Hamilton`s Red Bull title rival Max Verstappen looks in good shape for the remaining seven races after taking a new engine in Russia and still finishing second after starting last. 
 
The Dutch 23-year-old is only two points behind Hamilton, who may have to take an engine penalty between now and the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi&nbsp; The Briton said at the weekend that was not definite, however. 
 
"I’ve lost one engine, Valtteri’s had several," he told reporters after Saturday qualifying in Sochi as questions were asked about possible penalties. "There’s been others that Mercedes have seen up and down the paddock.

Ferrari`s Carlos Sainz joined the Briton on the front row in Sochi with Williams` George Russell, Hamilton`s team mate from next season, completing a top three that nobody would have predicted. 
 
Hamilton, who had been on provisional pole before everyone switched to slicks on a drying track, qualified fourth for Mercedes after a brush with the pit lane wall damaged his front wing at a key moment. 
 
He can still expect to take the championship lead back from Red Bull rival Max Verstappen on Sunday with the 23-year-old Dutch driver starting at the back due to engine penalties. Mercedes have never been beaten in Sochi. 
 
Norris, 21, whooped in delight at what he hoped would be the first of many poles. 
 
"It feels amazing....we made the decision in the end to go slicks. you never think you will get pole until you get it and now I`ve managed to do it. Extremely happy and big thanks to the team. They`ve done an amazing job," said the youngster. 
 
"It was tough. I am going to make myself sound good but it was tricky...The lap before I was two seconds down and I wasn`t very confident we were going to improve on the previous lap...I risked quite a bit and it paid off. I`m a happy boy." 
 
McLaren won the previous Italian Grand Prix at Monza in a one-two finish, and Australian winner Daniel Ricciardo qualified fifth in Sochi ahead of Spaniard Fernando Alonso in sixth for Alpine. 
 
Hamilton, whose team mate Valtteri Bottas qualified only seventh, complained he could not keep heat in the tyres when he returned to the track and he spun on his final flying lap. 
 
"It was just a mistake from myself. I`m incredibly disappointed in myself," said a deflated Hamilton of his pit lane prang. 
 
"Up until then I was in the groove, I was really in the zone. 
 
"I`m really sorry for all the team that are here and back at the factory because obviously that`s not what you expect from a champion. It is what it is and I will do my best tomorrow to try and rectify it." 
 
Verstappen, five points clear of Hamilton after 14 races, made only a brief appearance in qualifying with nothing to achieve.
