Fleet-footed Norwegian winger Guro Reiten joined Chelsea to play in the biggest club games possible, and on Sunday her dream will come true as they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final in Gothenburg.

Reiten had already reached the top in Norway, winning three league titles with LSK and twice finishing as the league’s top scorer, but the move to London in 2019 to a club with Chelsea’s resources has been a big step up.

"What is similar is the desire to win, to sacrifice everything to win regardless, but the conditions here for winning are very different," Reiten told Reuters.

“It’s much more professional day-to-day at Chelsea, everything is perfectly set up so you can succeed. There is nothing we don’t have access to in terms of resources - you just have to show up and everything is ready for you, you only have to focus on what you are going to do on the pitch.”

The 26-year-old signed for Chelsea ahead of the 2019 World Cup in France, where Norway was knocked out by England at the quarter-final stage, and she was impressed by the attention to detail once she joined her new club.

“We have sleep experts, menstruation experts, psychologists... they keep an eye on everything, all the way. It’s very detailed,” she explained.

The facilities were not the only thing she had to get used to in England.

"The English league is high-tempo, a physically tough league, so I’ve learned to make decisions quicker, but with quality at the same time... in my first week in England I found myself lying in the grass after a tackle and (Chelsea center-back) Millie Bright just said ‘welcome to England’!”

Chelsea edged out Bayern Munich to make it to the Champions League final for the first time, and Reiten is one of a number of Nordic players in the Chelsea squad who has been looking forward to playing in Sweden.

“It’s funny that it’s in Sweden because we talked about it this season, that maybe it was meant to be since we’re a big group of Scandies here,” said Reiten, who is disappointed that there will be no fans in attendance due to Swedish COVID-19 restrictions.

“Especially this game, it’s probably going to be one of the biggest games we’ll ever play, and not being able to have our family and friends there, it’s sad.”

Barcelona may be favorites with the bookmakers, but Chelsea go into the final full of self-belief due to the bonds created during the pandemic.

“We have so many great players with different qualities, we push each other every day. We have great coaches, great staff, but I would also say great people,” Reiten says.

“This year has been a struggle for all of us, not being able to go home and COVID and everything, so we’ve not only been each other’s team mates, we’ve been each other’s family, and that has made us a strong group.”

Sadio Mane has cut a baffling figure this season. The 29-year-old has scored 40 goals in 71 appearances in all rivalries for Liverpool in the last two seasons. Nonetheless, he has figured out how to track down the rear of the net only multiple times in 31 Premier League appearances for Liverpool in the current mission.

Liverpool supervisor Jurgen Klopp has liked to play Diogo Jota in front of Sadio Mane lately as is supposed to be quick to support the group's assault. Sadio Mane could, accordingly, be offered to raise assets for another signing.

With Chelsea and Leicester City set to meet this end of the week, the Reds could climb to third on the off chance that they win against West Brom with one game in hand.

"We are still in the game, in the race. That is all we could have done tonight. It is very intense," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his post-match conference: We have to recover quickly and go again. We played a good game and did good enough to win so, obviously, we did a lot of things right tonight."

Liverpool's three leftover matches are altogether should dominate matches. They will possibly have themselves to fault on the off chance that they blow away a chance to get Champions League football for next season.

Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for putting his faith in youngsters at Old Trafford and getting the results.

In an interview with the BBC on Thursday, the Scot spoke also of his pride in United striker Marcus Rashford's campaign for free school meals and explained why he opposed plans for a closed European Super League.

The 79-year-old, one of the greatest managers of all time, was in charge when Solksjaer played for United and recalled how even then the Norwegian was taking notes for the future.

"He had a will that he wanted to be a manager, and at a club like Manchester United, it's a result industry, without question," he said of the Norwegian who replaced Jose Mourinho as a manager in 2018.

"If you don't get results there are questions to be asked. He is getting the results, he really has done very well.

"And what is really important for this club is to introduce young people, and he's given young players a chance.

"The young guys, if they are good enough, play them. Never a problem at this club," said Ferguson, who gave plenty of chances to youngsters at United -- including future England captain David Beckham.

United have not won the league title since Ferguson's last in 2012-13 but under Solskjaer they are second in the Premier League, behind champions Manchester City, and have reached the Europa League final.

Ferguson, who felt he had been given "three years extra" after suffering a brain hemorrhage in 2018, said he phoned Rashford to show his support for the 23-year-old England international's campaign.

"I was so proud of him, I really was," he said, speaking ahead of the release this month of a new documentary, directed by his son Jason, about his life.

The Scot also praised Liverpool and Manchester City managers Juergen Klopp and Pep Guardiola for the drive they had brought to their clubs, and felt he had a similar energy.

He said modern players were more fragile and needed more care, however.

Ferguson told Reuters last month that a breakaway European Super League would be a move away from 70 years of football history and he said on Thursday every club should be able to dream of reaching the top.

"You cannot ever forget that the real reason for football was that the smallest guy can climb to the top of Everest, and that's the best way I can put that. We can't do without that really," he said.

The breakaway plan lasted 48 hours before falling apart but the repercussions continue, with fans protesting against the club's owners ahead of Thursday's home Premier League game against Liverpool.

Alex Ferguson says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has 'done very well' at Manchester United

The Premier League has welcomed the British government's announcement on the easing of lockdown restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic and Chief Executive Richard Masters said on Monday it is their priority to have full stadiums next season.

The government said in February that under the third stage of its four-stage "roadmap", stadiums would - if all conditions are met - from May 17 be allowed to hold up to 50% of their capacity, or 4,000 people, whichever is lower.

A special provision will be made for large outdoor, seated venues, so that they can open their doors to up to 10,000 people or 25% of the capacity, whichever is lower.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Monday the roadmap would progress as planned.

"It'll be brilliant to see fans back. They've been hugely missed and the Premier League hasn't been the same without them. Their presence will ensure a fantastic finale to the end of our season," Masters said.

Matches in England's top-flight have taken place behind closed doors since June, apart from a brief window late last year when small crowds were allowed before a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

The Premier League said last week attendance for the penultimate round of matches to be played on May 18-19 and the final day May 23 would be restricted to home fans.

"Although only a small number of home fans will be at our matches next week, this is an important step in our return to normality," Masters added.

"We'll continue to work with the government and other authorities as our priority is to have full vibrant stadiums – including away supporters - from the start of next season. Only then will we get back to the real Premier League."

A crowd of 8,000 watched Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup final on April 25, while this weekend's FA Cup final is expected to have 21,000 fans present.

Premier League anticipates full stadiums next season

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was left baffled after two handball calls went against his side in Sunday's enthralling 2-2 draw at home to Sevilla which left Los Blancos still trailing La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in the title race.

With the game poised at 1-1, Real's Eder Militao was penalized after a VAR review for touching the ball with his hand as he jumped to defend a cross.

The decision meant that a penalty that had been awarded to the hosts moments earlier for a foul on Karim Benzema by Sevilla goalkeeper Bono was overruled.

Ivan Rakitic scored from the spot to restore Sevilla's lead but a Diego Carlos own goal in the 93rd minute snatched a point for Real to leave them two points behind Atletico.

Zidane's side had appealed for a penalty in the first half when the ball struck Sevilla's Joan Jordan arm although, unlike Militao, the midfielder had not extended his arm.

"I don't understand it at all. If it's a handball against Militao it has to be a handball against Sevilla too," Zidane told Spanish network Movistar Plus.

The French coach prides himself on rarely discussing refereeing decisions but he took to the pitch after the game to remonstrate with official Juan Martinez Munuera.

"He told me that Militao's was a handball but he didn't convince me," added Zidane.

"I never speak about the referee but today I'm angry. In the end it is what it is and what I say won't change anything. I'm happy with how my team played, we deserved more as we were spectacular in the second half."

Real director Emilio Butragueno joined Zidane in expressing his frustration with the decision, recalling his side were denied a penalty against Atletico in March when the ball came off the hand of defender Felipe when he jumped for a header.

"We're not having much luck with plays like this. We've been in a few similar situations this season and once again the decision went against us," he said.

"It was an absolutely decisive decision given the moment in the game and what it meant, a penalty for Sevilla or a penalty for Real Madrid.

"We're concerned as there have been some similar plays which in theory would have gone in our favor and the outcome has been different. We're left feeling a little uneasy."

Zinedine Zidane bewildered by handball decision as Real title hopes slip

Juventus started the season looking to win a 10th straight Serie A title but instead find themselves in danger of missing out on a Champions League spot after a 3-0 home defeat by top-four rivals AC Milan on Sunday left them fifth with three games left.

Goals from Brahim Diaz, Ante Rebic, and Fikayo Tomori secured the win and sent Milan up to third on 72 points from 35 matches, leaving Juve a point behind fourth-placed Napoli and needing teams to drop points as they battle for a top-four finish.

Brahim curled home a stunning opener just before the break to give the visitors the halftime lead and they had a chance to extend the advantage in the 56th minute only for Franck Kessie's penalty to be saved by Wojciech Szczesny.

That miss did not prove costly, however, as substitute Rebic arrowed a fine strike into the net 12 minutes from time before defender Tomori, on loan from Chelsea, headed the third goal to seal a crucial win for Milan four minutes later.

"It was a very special night for us," Tomori told Sky Sport Italia. "This result and my goal made the night special.

"This victory gives us an advantage but nothing has been decided yet in the top-four race. Now we have to continue like this and stay focused for the next match against Torino."

Used to battling it out for the Scudetto in the past, Juve and Milan looked like two teams who were unsure of a top-four finish in a nervous first half.

Other than a header from Giorgio Chiellini, Juve struggled to create anything, with Cristiano Ronaldo unusually quiet.

Brahim lit up a poor first half after Szczesny did not get enough on a punch, with the Real Madrid loanee finding the top corner on his first start for Milan since March.

After the break, Juve did improve, with Ronaldo finally getting a shot away, but he could not find the target with his left foot, while Milan had to withdraw their top goalscorer this season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, due to an injury.

Chiellini's clumsy handball gifted Milan the chance to extend their lead, after a lengthy VAR review. However, Szczesny came to the rescue - the Pole's third penalty save from the last four spot-kicks he has faced in Serie A against Milan.

It was Ibrahimovic's replacement Rebic who effectively ended Juve's hopes of getting something from the match before Tomori picked an opportune moment to score his first goal for Milan.

The final whistle was greeted with wild scenes of celebration from Milan staff and players, with their first away league win at Juve since March 2011 putting them in a strong position to return to the Champions League, potentially at their opponent's expense.

Juventus in danger of missing out on top four after loss to Milan

West Ham United blew their chance to apply real pressure in the race for a Premier League top-four finish as they slumped to a 1-0 home defeat by an Everton side who maintained their European qualification hopes on Sunday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 24th-minute goal proved decisive against a West Ham side who huffed and puffed but never really hit their stride on a crucial afternoon.

The closest West Ham came to an equalizer was when Vladimir Coufal's shot hit the post and Jarrod Bowen could not bundle in the rebound from point-blank range.

Everton hit the post late on through Josh King and they hung on for the win that keeps them in the frame for a European spot.

West Ham remained in fifth place with 58 points, five points behind fourth-placed Leicester City with three games remaining. Liverpool are only a point behind West Ham with a game in hand.

Everton are eighth with 55 points and have four games left.

"That was a tough shift," said Calvert-Lewin, who scored his 16th league goal of the season. "We worked hard and got away with the three points. It wasn't pretty but I think with the effort we put in we deserved it in the end."

With Leicester being surprisingly beaten by Newcastle United on Friday, West Ham could have moved to within two points of Brendan Rodgers' side with a victory.

West Ham's run-in also looks far more comfortable than Leicester's, so Sunday's clash at the London Stadium felt like a huge moment in the Hammers' audacious bid for Champions League qualification for the first time.

But David Moyes' team lacked spark against his former side Everton who clocked up an 11th away league win of the season, a total only bettered by Manchester City.

Everton began in confident fashion and took the lead when Ben Godfrey's pass split West Ham's defense open and Calvert-Lewin left Craig Dawson trailing before angling his shot past Lukasz Fabianski and into the net.

West Ham should have equalized before halftime when an unmarked Said Benrahma was picked out at the far post but he directed his header narrowly off target.

Everton sunk deeper in the second half to protect their lead and enjoyed a stroke of luck when Coufal's powerful drive cannoned off the inside of the post and across goal where an off-balance Bowen somehow failed to convert the rebound.

As West Ham pushed on they were caught on the break and Calvert-Lewin played in Seamus Coleman who looked certain to score until Jesse Lingard made a superb block.

King then should have wrapped up the points for Everton but he headed against the post from close range.

It wasn't pretty but I think with the effort we put in we deserved it in the end." Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero apologized for his failed attempt at a chipped penalty in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea, saying it was a "bad decision".

Manchester City was 1-0 up when they were handed a chance to extend their lead at the break after a penalty was awarded following Billy Gilmour's challenge on Gabriel Jesus in the box.

Aguero attempted a "Panenka" penalty designed to fool the goalkeeper with a chip straight down the middle, but Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy did not commit to his dive and was able to simply stand up and catch the gentle shot.

Manchester City would have been crowned league champions with a win but Chelsea scored twice after the break.

Burnley will allow up to 3,500 fans inside Turf Moor for their final Premier League home game of the season against Liverpool, with tickets offered free of charge, the club said on Friday.

Home supporters will be awarded free tickets for the match on May 19 via an online ballot made up of season ticket holders.

Matches in England's top-flight have taken place behind closed doors since June, apart from a brief window late last year when small crowds were allowed before a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

But supporters will return, in a limited capacity, after May 17 in line with the government's plan to ease lockdown restrictions in England.

"This fixture is an opportunity to reward our loyal season ticket holders who have shown incredible support to the club throughout the pandemic," Burnley chairman Alan Pace said in a statement https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/content/ticket-ballot-burnley-v-liverpool.

"We have therefore decided to make tickets for this fixture free of charge.

"If supporters are able to, the club is encouraging successful applications in the ballot to consider making a donation to the NHS charities."

Fans will be asked to go straight to their allocated seats and wear face masks throughout their time in the stadium. Staggered exit times will also be in place after the match.

Chelsea cannot afford to get carried away by their run to the finals of the Champions League and FA Cup and must focus on landing the two trophies to reward their recent progress, manager Thomas Tuchel said on Friday.

Chelsea visits Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday in a game that doubles as a dress rehearsal for the Champions League final on May 29.

The London club, which is looking to cement their top-four spot in the league, also has an FA Cup final against Leicester City to look forward to later this month.

Tuchel, who has overseen a remarkable upturn in fortunes since replacing Frank Lampard, has urged his players not to rest on their laurels.

"The reality is that you have to stay with your feet on the ground because if you arrive in a final the fact is you have nothing won yet," Tuchel told a news conference.

"We don't want to be participants, we want to win it. This club is for achieving finals but also winning finals and football games. This is the target.

"If we keep our momentum going, our atmosphere which is built on hard work ... this is what we have to do, to focus on the process and hopefully get the reward."

Chelsea knocked out City in the FA Cup semi-finals last month but Tuchel does not expect that result or Saturday's clash, where Guardiola's side can seal the title with a win, to have any bearing on the Champions League final in Istanbul.

"The possibility they can become champions if they win against us will not lower their determination," he said. "They had one more day to recover, they don't have to travel, it gives them a bit the upper hand.

"We saw how crucial that can be these days when they arrived at Wembley in the semi-final and we had one more day. We have to deal with it. The final in Istanbul will be pretty unique no matter what the score is tomorrow."

Thomas Tuchel urges Chelsea to stay grounded amid finals hype

Manchester United owner and co-chairman Joel Glazer has told supporters he is willing to discuss increasing fan shareholding in the club as part of greater consultation with them.

Violent protests against United's American owners, who were central to plans for a breakaway Super League, led to Sunday's Premier League match at home to Liverpool being postponed.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust had written to Glazer on Monday urging him to take several steps including opening up shares to fans.

Responding in an open letter https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/Joel-Glazer-writes-letter-to-Man-Utd-Fans-Forum-in-May-2021 to Fans' Forum members, Glazer said: "As one of the few European football clubs listed on the public markets, we believe in the principle of fans owning shares in the club.

"We have previously engaged with the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust on fan share ownership and we want to continue and accelerate those discussions, together with provisions to enhance associated fan consultation".

Glazer said the club was committed to listening to the views of fans.

"We want to work together to come up with an ambitious package of measures which will transform our relationship with fans and strengthen the club for the long-term.

"In this spirit, we will reach out to members of the forum to schedule a meeting in which I shall participate as soon as possible after the final game of the season," he wrote.

"One of the clearest lessons of the past few weeks is the need for us to become better listeners. To this end, I can commit the club will engage across all of the issues raised in your letter".

But in reply to Glazer, MUST said it would have to consult more widely before entering any discussions with the club.

"The (Glazer) response could in theory - and we emphasize in theory only - be a change in direction and approach by the owners versus their silence and disregard for communication over the last 16 years," MUST said in a statement.

"We will, however, determine our position based on the resulting actions rather than these words alone. We have seen empty words too many times previously.

"We will seek a mandate from our members and from the wider fanbase before proceeding. We only wish to engage in this process should our supporters want us to," it added.

The Super League affair has relit the always smoldering protest movement amongst United fans with a supporter demonstration at the club's training ground followed by Sunday's protests which involved clashes with police.

Glazer has apologized for United's involvement in the Super League project, which would have seen 12 of the top clubs in Europe break away from the established structures to create a privately owned championship.

Manchester United owners to discuss "fan share ownership"

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani's superb performances over two legs of the side's Europa League semi-final against AS Roma are exactly why they want to keep the Uruguayan at Old Trafford, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said.

The 34-year-old scored two goals and provided two assists in United's 6-2 victory in the first leg at Old Trafford and struck twice again in Thursday's 3-2 defeat in the return fixture as the English side reached the final with an 8-5 aggregate win.

In the title clash of Europe's second-tier club competition, United will meet Spanish side Villarreal in Gdansk on May 26.

"The reason we're here is that we've got a center-forward who has scored four goals in the tie," Solskjaer said of Cavani in his post-match news conference. "Edinson has shown again why we want to keep him at Old Trafford."

Cavani arrived at United on a one-year contract in October with an option of another 12 months but remains undecided about his future after a difficult season, which included a social media faux pas that resulted in a three-game ban.

He has scored 14 goals from 34 matches in all competitions while leading the line brilliantly and finding the net in key moments.

"Football has its own language. Edinson has proven tonight, in previous games, throughout his career, what a center-forward should be doing both on and off the ball, both preparing for games and recovering from games," Solskjaer said.

"He's an absolute top professional and everyone in my team can learn from him."

Solskjaer's side, who are second in the Premier League, next face Aston Villa on Sunday before matches against Leicester City on Tuesday and bitter rivals Liverpool in a rearranged fixture on Thursday.

The Norwegian said the fixture list had been made by "people who have never played football at this level."

"It's physically impossible for the players," he said. "We're going to need everyone for these games. It's a short turnaround but we have to be ready."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaps praise on Edinson Cavani, hopes Uruguayan will stay

Former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg said he hoped manager Mikel Arteta would keep his job after the team crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday following a goalless draw with Villarreal.

The defeat meant Arsenal exited Europe's second-tier club competition with a 2-1 aggregate defeat. The club is ninth in England's Premier League table and could miss out on European football for the first time in 25 years.

Asked whether Arteta retained the backing of the club's supporters, Ljungberg told BT Sport: "There are no fans here so that's difficult to know. I hope he does.

"I'm not going to stand here and say managers should stay or go. Listen, he's a young manager and I hope he will stay. But of course, it's not good enough for Arsenal and it's up to the owners and other people within the club."

Freddie Ljungberg, who took over as interim coach in 2019 after the current Villarreal manager Unai Emery was sacked and briefly assisted Arteta, said he did not understand how the club had crashed out of the competition.

"I'm a bit in shock... I thought Arsenal would definitely go through," Ljungberg added.

Arteta said he was still the right man to lift the spirits of his players.

"I wouldn't be sitting here if I couldn't. You'll see it. It's not about talking, it's about showing it on the pitch," Mikel Arteta said. "I feel the pressure all the time because I want to do as good as I can for the team, the support that I have, and for the fans... I think everybody's job is under scrutiny."

Freddie Ljungberg says he hopes Mikel Arteta can keep Arsenal job after Europa exit

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez said the pressure will be on Chelsea when the sides meet in a high-stakes Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Manchester City will be crowned champions for the fifth time in 10 years with three games to spare if they beat fourth-placed Chelsea, who are threatened by West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool.

They will also wrap up the title on Sunday if Manchester United loses at Aston Villa.

"We want to win to become champions but they also want to win because they want to finish fourth," Algeria forward Mahrez, who scored three of his team's four goals in a 4-1 aggregate victory against Paris St Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, told L'Equipe on Friday.

"The pressure will be more on them."

Manchester City will then turn their sights towards the May 29 Champions League final, where they will meet Chelsea again, with Mahrez facing his former Leicester teammate Ngolo Kante.

Both players were still in the lower divisions in France in their early 20s, with Kante playing in the third division in the 2012-13 season and Mahrez playing in Ligue 2 from 2011-14.

"I've always had a lot of ambitions, I've always thought I would be able to score in the quarter and semi-finals of the Champions League," said Mahrez.

"It's true that there are players like Kylian Mbappe who manage to do that when they're 17. But some of the players of my generation who were playing in Ligue 1 at 20 have since ended their career.

"That's when your career ends that you can assess it."

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez said the pressure will be on Chelsea when the sides meet in a high-stakes Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

"The pressure will be more on them." Manchester City will then turn their sights towards the May 29 Champions League final, where they will meet Chelsea again, with Mahrez facing his former Leicester teammate Ngolo Kante.

Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard has apologised to the club's supporters for appearing to laugh with Chelsea players after his former club knocked the Spanish giants out of the Champions League on Wednesday.

Chelsea beat Real 2-0 in their semi-final second leg for a 3-1 win on aggregate and Hazard, who joined Real from Chelsea in 2019 as their record signing, failed to impress in either game after recently returning from injury.

Shortly after the final whistle, television cameras showed the Belgian congratulating and laughing with Chelsea players Kurt Zouma and Edouard Mendy. The footage, shown on social media, drew criticism from Real fans and the Spanish media.

"I am sorry. I have read lots of opinions about me today and it was not my intention to offend any Real Madrid fans," Hazard posted on his Instagram story on Thursday.

Hazard's two seasons in Spain have been riddled with injuries that have prevented him from hitting top form.

"It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win," he added. "The season is not over and together we must battle for La Liga. Hala Madrid."

Real could still end the season winning the La Liga title. They are second in the table with 74 points from 34 games, two points behind local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said that his family was worried by his sudden weight loss after he contracted malaria in March, and that he was slowly returning to full physical fitness.

Aubameyang was sidelined for four games after getting malaria while on international duty with Gabon and spent time in a hospital last month before returning in the team's 2-1 defeat by Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

"I was feeling just normal, a bit down - I thought that it was the travel," Aubameyang told reporters ahead of the return leg later on Thursday. "Gabon isn't so close to here. I felt tired, especially against Liverpool, but I thought it was because of the travel... I had three days in a row, fever, all day and night. After that, I spoke to the doctor."

After that, he checked into a hospital, where he was treated for three days and lost 4kg.

"It was a bad moment and my family was a bit scared to see me like this," he said. "I'm lucky I got treatment at the right moment; if you don't treat it quickly it can lead to big problems."

Aubameyang scored in his first start since recovering from the illness in Sunday's 2-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United and said he was looking forward to the Villarreal game.

"In my mind, I feel more than 100% but physically maybe I'm not. Hopefully my body will respond as well but definitely in my mind I'm ready," said Aubameyang, who missed three games this season when his mother was ill.

"It's been a bad year, hopefully next year will be different," he said.

"I took a decision a year ago to stop playing because I thought that was it was the [right] moment, not because I felt that I cannot play soccer anymore. I believe if I train I can play soccer for sure.

"But I thought that moment [when I decided to retire] was the right time. As you know, life is not just about soccer I am 39 and I played for 20 years as a soccer player.

"I think I can help more the sport of football and the world of football in my position right now than on the field. I think I took the right decision because I am very happy now. I miss football a little bit, but i think I can help in the position now more than the things I can do on the field."

The Europa League final in Gdansk on May 26 will be allowed to host up to 9,500 spectators after Europe's soccer governing body UEFA said it had received approval from the Polish authorities.

The final will be held at Stadion Energa in Gdansk at a stadium capacity of 25 percent, with both finalists receiving 2,000 tickets each and 2,000 tickets to be offered to the general public.

The remaining tickets will be allocated to the local organizing committee, UEFA and national associations, commercial partners and broadcasters.

"The Polish authorities have confirmed a stadium capacity of 25% for the final, amounting to 9,500 spectators," UEFA said in a statement on Monday

Paris St Germain will make a late decision on whether forward Kylian Mbappe will be available to face Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, coach Mauricio Pochettino said on Monday.

Mbappe, PSG's top scorer this season with 25 goals in Ligue 1 and eight in Europe, missed the 2-1 victory over Lens on Saturday due to a calf injury.

Video footage circulating on social media showed Mbappe limping on his arrival in Manchester for Tuesday's match at the Etihad Stadium, but Pochettino will make his final assessment after the first-team training session.

"We need to assess Kylian, today he's going to start individual training sessions and see if he'll be with the team," Pochettino told a news conference. "It's still one day, we didn't decide and we will see tomorrow."

Having suffered a 2-1 defeat in Paris last week, PSG knows they must score at least twice on Tuesday if they are to stand any chance of heading to their second straight Champions League final.

Pochettino said he will not tweak PSG's formation -- with or without Mbappe -- but emphasized the importance of his team converting their counter-attacking opportunities.

"Tomorrow we must be ready to suffer and then be clinical and aggressive when we get chances," the Argentine coach said.

"They have an advantage and we need to take risks, be brave, plan the game knowing City is a team that can manage different ways to play.

"We need to be clever, believe, and show our quality on the pitch. It will be a battle but we will be ready."

Atletico Madrid stayed in charge of La Liga's four-way title race by earning a nerve-shredding 1-0 victory at struggling Elche on Saturday, riding their luck to the extreme when the hosts missed a penalty in stoppage time.

Marcos Llorente scored the only goal with a deflected shot in the 23rd minute but gave away the penalty in the 90th after a careless handball as Atleti defended a free kick after sitting on their slim lead rather than looking to put the game to bed.

Elche midfielder Fidel Chaves's spot kick beat goalkeeper Jan Oblak but came off the post, providing another twist in an action-packed game in which Atletico had two goals ruled out for offside and a penalty award taken away following a VAR review.

Fidel's spurned penalty threw Diego Simeone's side a lifeline in the thrilling title race while leaving Elche still 18th and in the relegation zone. They would have moved out of the drop zone if Fidel had scored from the spot.

The win took Atletico to 76 points with four games left but Real Madrid moved two points behind them by beating Osasuna 2-0. Barcelona are third on 71 points and visit Valencia on Sunday. Sevilla, on 70 points, host Athletic Bilbao on Monday.

It was the second time this season Atleti had benefitted from their opponents squandering a late penalty, with Oblak saving from Alaves' Joselu to secure a 1-0 home win in March.

It was also the second stroke of fortune in three days for Atletico, who sank to a chastening 2-1 defeat at Athletic Bilbao last week and looked set to lose top spot to Barca, who then fell to a shock 2-1 loss at home to Granada on Thursday.

Atleti visit Barca next Saturday in what could be a pivotal weekend in the title race, with Real hosting Sevilla the next day.

'AN OBLIGATION'

"Winning today was an obligation and we were able to get the job done," said Llorente.

"At this stage of the season everyone has so much at stake, whether you're fighting relegation, going for Europe or the title. Every team is playing as if their lives depend on it."

Atletico went on the attack early on against Elche and should have taken the lead after a slick move between Angel Correa and Luis Suarez, who could only find the side-netting.

Suarez did manage to put the ball in the net soon after following a move with Llorente but was left frustrated again when the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for a fractional offside.

The Uruguayan missed the target early in the second half and then had a second goal chalked off, this time for a clear offside.

Suarez was replaced by midfielder Saul late on as Simeone sought to protect Atletico's lead.

The move almost backfired when Elche's Antonio Barragan caught sight of goal from close range but volleyed just over the bar.

Fidel's spurned penalty was an even bigger let off but, somehow, Atletico remain in the box seat in the title race.

Llorente added: "I don't believe in luck. But we've got the three points which gives us huge belief for what's left to come."

La Liga: Atletico Madrid ride luck to win after late Elche penalty miss

Liverpool's visit to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday promises to be a tasty encounter as both teams desperately need three points to achieve their end-of-season goals, manager Juergen Klopp said on Friday.

United must win to keep the title race alive if league leaders Manchester City beat Crystal Palace a day earlier while Klopp's sixth-placed Liverpool are four points below the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Klopp has never won at Old Trafford in six attempts in all competitions and a Liverpool victory could hand City the title.

"Strange things can happen in football. Both teams have to win it, so it's a recipe for a good game," Klopp told reporters.

"Without winning games, we have no chance of having European football. If the others (above us) win, it doesn't change anything for us. But for us it's clear, we have to win.

"It's a tough, tense game for both teams. Man United are good, especially last night after the halftime talk they were really flying," Klopp added, referring to United's 6-2 win over AS Roma in the Europa League semi-final, first leg.

Klopp said the match could be tougher for United due to their Europa League commitments.

"When you play Thursday and Sunday again, it's a tough challenge. Yes, United are used to it but that doesn't make it easier," Klopp added.

"Today is a recovery day todat, a second recovery day and then they play. No chance to change things, but I don't think they want to really at the moment."

Liverpool faces the prospect of not playing Champions League football next season if they do not finish in the top four but Klopp said missing out will not impact their transfer business or players' contract negotiations.

"Playing the Champions League is obviously massive, especially from a financial point of view for the club. It's not good if we don't make it," the German said.

"But no, I don't think it will change anything because the situation was difficult before and will be difficult after."

Manchester City could wrap up the Premier League title this weekend but manager Pep Guardiola is in no hurry to break out the champagne as he expects a tough battle at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Guardiola will win his third league title with the club if City beat Palace and Liverpool beat second-placed Manchester United on Sunday, but the Spaniard was not yet ready to draw comparisons with his previous title wins.

"Let me try to win at Crystal Palace... United is an extraordinary team arriving in the last two months in their best form of the season and we need five points to be champions," Guardiola, whose side beat Paris St Germain 2-1 in the Champions League in midweek, told reporters on Friday.

"All we can do now is recover as well as possible from the physically and mentally tough game we played in Paris. It is our sixth game in a row away. It is a lot of travel and we are tired in many aspects.

"It is Crystal Palace, a Roy Hodgson team. Every time we have faced them we had a lot of problems to win the game."

Manchester City have dominated the league playing a number of games without a recognized striker with Gabriel Jesus often benched and Sergio Aguero injured.

Guardiola said he liked playing midfielders in attack as the best way to defend is to keep the ball in difficult circumstances.

"I have to admit that I like players with the ability to keep the ball, it's one of the biggest principles I look for from the team and the players," Guardiola said.

"In all my career I play with a lot of midfield players. I don't know why but I have the feeling that you can play better with this (approach)... It happened with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and here as well."

Jose Mourinho said he does not expect to return to management next season following his dismissal by Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and will wait for the right club with the right culture.

The former Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United boss was sacked by Tottenham after 17 months in charge of the London club and six days before their 1-0 League Cup final defeat by Manchester City.

The 58-year-old is in no rush to get back in the hot seat at another club and is set to work as an analyst during this year's European Championship.

"I have no plans. I'm going on with my normal life. I feel fresh. I feel calm. I'm on holiday. I have more time to be doing my homework and analysis," Mourinho said in an interview with Times Magazine.

Jose Mourinho not targeting return to management next season

Everton's Brazilian striker Richarlison Andrade is not consistent enough for the attacking quality that he possesses and can offer a lot more going forward, manager Carlo Ancelotti has said.

The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, half of them coming in the Premier League, but has not found the net since his winner against relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion in March.

Asked ahead of Saturday's league clash with Aston Villa to assess Richarlison's season, Ancelotti told a news conference: "Not so consistent for the quality he has.

"It's acceptable that he has not been at his best. He had problems at the beginning of the season. He started well but was then suspended, traveling with the national team, and then was out for personal reasons.

"From a physical viewpoint he wasn't always at the top and this affected his technical performances. He had a good spell when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was out but can do much better next season and I hope he can do better this season as well."

Ancelotti said Richarlison, who is hoping to play his 100th league match for the club on Saturday, does not lack motivation and is also targeting a spot in Brazil's Olympic squad for the Tokyo Games this year.

"He's a player with a strong motivation," Ancelotti said. "But we must not lose sight of the fact that he's still a young player.

"When I say he can do better, it's not because he's lost confidence or isn't good enough. He's a fantastic striker."

Barcelona suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat by Granada on Thursday, conceding two second-half goals to blow the chance of moving top of La Liga.

The result was a body blow for Barca, who had lost just once in their previous 22 league games and no longer have the destiny of the title in their own hands.

"We're really down. We tried until the end but we weren't good enough in the attacking third and they've scored with their two attacks," Barcelona defender Jordi Alba told Movistar.

"It was a unique chance to go top after such a tough year. It's not in our hands but we need to win all the five remaining games and see what happens."

Things started well for the Catalans, who took the lead on 23 minutes after Antoine Griezmann teed up Lionel Messi for his 26th league goal of the season.

The Argentine forward was denied by Granada keeper Aaron Escandell one-on-one shortly afterward, and it proved to be a vital step in the context of the game - as well as the title race.

Darwin Machis leveled the scores on 63 minutes after Oscar Mingueza failed to cut out Luis Suarez's through ball and in the aftermath, Barca coach Ronald Koeman was sent off by referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes.

The hosts were stunned 11 minutes from time when substitute Jorge Molina headed in Adrian Marin's pinpoint cross from close range to secure a first-ever away win at Barcelona for Diego Martinez's side.

Barca sits third in the standings on 71 points, two points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid. They trail great rivals Real Madrid, who also have 71, in second place due to their inferior head-to-head record.

Koeman's red card means the Dutchman will likely miss Sunday's trip to former club Valencia, as well as next weekend's title showdown with Atletico.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he would do everything in his power to try and convince striker Edinson Cavani to stay at the club for another season.

The Uruguay international scored twice, assisted two more, and earned a penalty to help United fight back from 2-1 down to defeat AS Roma 6-2 in their Europa League semi-final first leg at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Cavani arrived at United on a one-year contract in October with an option of another 12 months but remains undecided about whether to remain at Old Trafford after a difficult season which included a social media faux pas that resulted in a three-game ban.

"I'm delighted with him," Solskjaer said. "You can see the difference in him when he's worked on his fitness. He's making up for a lost time, it looks like.

"He's more than just a goal poacher and good goalscorer. He's played for so long that he has that calmness and composure about him. He's showing his experience. We want the experienced players to step up and he definitely has done.

"He knows I'd love to have him for another year."

Solskjaer hopes the prospect of playing in front of supporters at Old Trafford can convince the 34-year-old to remain in Manchester.

History was made during Athletic Club’s Sunday night clash with Atletico de Madrid this weekend. It was Iñaki Williams’ 189th consecutive appearance for the club in LaLiga Santander, moving him into second on the all-time rankings ahead of Real Sociedad legend Luis Arconada. Only Juan Antonio Larrañaga, who played in 202 matches in a row, has a longer streak.

Curiously, Williams’ incredible run actually began against Atlético de Madrid. He returned from an injury to play against Los Colchoneros back in the 2015/16 campaign, on April 20th 2016. After playing the final five matches of that season, he played in all 38 of Athletic Club’s games in 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20, as well as the first 32 fixtures of the current campaign. In other words, there hasn’t been an Athletic Club league match that hasn’t featured Williams since a 1-0 win over Malaga all the way back in 2016.

Williams’ story is a unique one. Born in Bilbao to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother, he grew up in neighbouring Pamplona and started playing for local teams in the area. Since he lived far away from the complex, teammates would take turns bringing him to training and Williams remains grateful for the support he received from those teammates and the various coaches and directors who helped him along the way. He was so talented that Athletic Club took notice while Williams was playing in Pamplona and he was soon incorporated into the club’s Lezama academy.

Playing for the Basque side’s B team, Bilbao Athletic, Williams really stood out and first-team coach Ernesto Valverde was so impressed with what he was seeing that he handed the youngster his first-team debut against Córdoba in December of 2014, aged just 20. A few months later, in February 2015, he netted his first goal for the team by scoring against Torino in the Europa League.

Before long, Williams had become Athletic Club’s talisman in attack, complementing Aritz Aduriz perfectly. By scoring big goals in big moments and by causing problems for opposition defences every time he produced one of his trademark sprints, Williams was key in the various successes enjoyed by Athletic Club over the following seasons.

Williams became so important that he was never dropped. It takes good health and a clean disciplinary record to set a consecutive appearance record like his, but it also requires the unwavering confidence of a coach – or coaches. Over the period of Williams’ 189 LaLiga Santander matches in a row, he has had five coaches and everyone has consistently named him on their team sheets.

In the boardroom, they believe in Williams too and, in 2019, he penned a nine-year contract that will run until 2028, a commitment rarely seen in modern football. No other player in LaLiga Santander has a contract that runs that far into the future, but Williams and Athletic Club are a match made in heaven and they want this special bond to continue.

“I have always said that I am where I want to be,” he stated as he signed his new deal. “It’s a matter or pride for me to be linked with this great club for so many years, a club that has given me everything. Athletic Club always believed in me and this is my home.”
