Three people died in Greece on Monday as a storm front battered parts of the country, causing flooding and landslides, officials said.

The bodies of two men were recovered after their yacht capsized and sank in the port of Antirion, near the city of Patras, a senior coastguard official told AFP. Antirion lies 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Athens.

Moving eastwards, the storm then caused flooding in the Halkidiki peninsula and the island of Rhodes, where a disabled elderly woman died in her home, the fire department said.

Gale-force winds also disrupted some ferry services on the Ionian Sea.

Earlier Monday, flooding, and landslides at Kinetta, a seaside town 50 kilometers south of Athens, closed rail service and the motorway linking the capital to the Peloponnesian peninsula in the southwest.

Workers laboured through the day to clear the mud, stones and fallen trees the storm left in its wake. A fire destroyed much of the vegetation at Kinetta in 2018, making it more susceptible to landslides.

Strong winds also caused the cancellation of some ferry services linking the Cyclades islands from the ports of Rafina and Lavrion in the east and closed some ports in the northeast.

Dozens of houses were flooded and the emergency services said they had to evacuate some residents.

Flooding in the Attica region around Athens has become more frequent in recent years because of deforestation caused by wildfires.

In November 2017, a mudslide caused by heavy rains killed 23 people at Mandra, 50 kilometers west of the capital.

Rescuers worked by hand to clear debris from a landslide triggered by heavy rains in central Japan on Saturday, as the toll from the storms rose to 10 dead with a further three people reportedly missing.

Aerial footage showed emergency workers removing wreckage from two houses that were swept away in Chiba, southeast of Tokyo, just two weeks after a deadly typhoon barrelled through the area.

Nine people were killed by landslides and floods in the region, including two elderly men found dead in submerged cars, officials and news reports said.

A woman in her 40s was found dead near the coast in eastern Fukushima, according to a fire department official.

Police divers were deployed to search for those unaccounted for, with public broadcaster NHK putting the number of missing at three.

Thousands of people were forced to spend the night in Narita airport after train services were suspended, it added.

"Water was flowing in my garden like a river," a 75-year-old man told NHK. "Rain was heavier than during the typhoon."

Two weeks ago, Typhoon Hagibis slammed into the east coast of Japan, killing more than 80 people. Many river banks and levees that were breached during Hagibis have yet to be repaired.

The rescue effort received some relief when the Japan Meteorological Agency downgraded warnings of landslides and floods as rains eased on Saturday morning in many regions.

Non-mandatory evacuation orders were also lifted in many areas, although 1,800 people were still in shelters, NHK reported.

Rescuers hunt for missing people as landslides, floods kill ten in Japan

Floods in southeast Niger have forced 23,000 people to flee their homes since early October, officials said Saturday, threatening a new humanitarian crisis in a region already wracked by Boko Haram Islamist violence.

Heavy rains have caused the Komadougou Yobe river that flows through the semi-desert Diffa region into Lake Chad to burst its banks, inundating villages, flooding fields and damaging crops.

Two villages near the city of Diffa were "completely submerged" and 2,500 households have been forced to move, according to national radio the Voice of the Sahel.

Some 400 families were sheltering in a gym in the city, it added.

"We have been fighting for days to stop the water rising, but it's not working," Amadou Issa, a rice farmer, told AFP. "The sandbags we've been using to keep the water out are completely underwater."

Extreme weather events are common in Niger, one of the world's poorest countries.

Between June and September, 57 people were killed and more than 130,000 affected by flooding according to government figures.

The capital Niamey was hit badly in September, with the waters of the Niger river, the third biggest in Africa, rising to a level not seen in more than 50 years and swamping parts of the city.

Last year, drought and flooding led to food shortages in a crisis which, exacerbated by jihadist violence, left more than 10 percent of the population needing humanitarian aid.

Niger, along with neighbouring Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Mauritania are also struggling against escalating attacks by armed Islamists.

According to the UN's human rights agency UNHCR, the Diffa region is home to almost 120,000 refugees and 109,000 internally displaced people.

At least six tourists, including a Kenyan tour guide and five Indian nationals, were killed when their van was swept away by sudden flash floods in the town of Naivasha on Sunday, the police said.

Quoting Rift Valley regional police commander Marcus Ochola, Xinhua news agency confirmed that the incident occurred at the Hell's Gate National Park.

"The guides did not read the weather of the surroundings. They know the killer waters usually originate from the highlands but didn't read this. We are there searching for possible survivors," Ochola told Xinhua.

Residents said one of the survivors alerted officers from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) manning the park, after managing to escape from the raging floods in the gorges.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred at around 4pm (local time), after rains pounded the areas of Mt. Longonot and Kingdom.

Ochola said search and rescue efforts were underway but water levels were high in the gorges, slowing down the process.

He added that more police officers have been deployed in the park to join the search and rescue team.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife said that an unknown number of tourists are feared to have drowned in flash floods while others survived.

"The ministry of tourism and wildlife is coordinating government agencies in a search and rescue operation. Our hearts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of those who died in the tragedy," the ministry added in a statement.

Road and metro traffic in Madrid and neighbouring areas were disrupted on Tuesday after flooding the previous night transformed streets into torrents, authorities said.

In Arganda del Rey near the Spanish capital, footage on local media showed torrents of mud dragging cars away and mounds of hailstones forming on the streets.

"No one was hurt and the interventions were relatively minor for a storm of this magnitude: removing branches from roads, floods in garages, basements or commercial premises," a spokesman for emergency services told AFP.

Firefighters in the region were called out 152 times on Monday.

Parts of four highways surrounding the Spanish capital were blocked off on Monday evening as were five metro lines where some stations were flooded.

On Tuesday morning, traffic on some highways was still disrupted as several lanes were still closed, while part of one underground line was cut off around Arganda del Rey.

The hospital in this town that lies at the southeast of Madrid was flooded, as was the major Peace Hospital in the Spanish capital, the emergency services spokesman said.

22 dead due to heavy rains in past 24 hours in Himachal Pradesh: CM Jai Ram Thakur

Following incessant rains in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Tehsildar of Tadepalli village on Saturday served a notice to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to vacate his house.

According to village authorities, the notice was served as there is a possibility for the flood water to enter the house in which the former Chief Minister is residing on rent.

"Floodwater is being released from August 14. As of now almost 7.5 lakh cusecs of water has been released. Reportedly one lakh more cusecs of water may be released downwards. As there is a chance of flood water entering the houses, in order to avoid any loss, you are hereby ordered to vacate the place and go to safer places. This notice is in the interest of the public and to avoid any human loss," reads the notice.

This is the second time that the authorities have issued notices to Naidu's residence. When the YSRCP won recently held Assembly elections and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power, Naidu was served notices to vacate the building citing illegal construction as it was built on the river embankment area of Krishna, below the permissible limits.

Immediately after that, one building - Praja Vedika - adjacent to Naidu's residence was demolished.

'Praja Vedika' was constructed by the then TDP government and was used for the government as well as party needs.

Jagan, after becoming the Chief Minister, held his first collectors' conference and ordered its demolition by stating that he is correcting the previous government's mistake as it is an illegal construction.

Moreover, the authorities have served notice to residents of the embankment area of the Krishna river to vacate from their houses.

Reportedly, most of the houses are vacated and those still living there are being shifted to safer places.

"After a notice was issued last night, many people have vacated their houses. We have come to this house which is situated in upper area. We will see after some time whether to go out from here or we can go back to our house," Vimala, a resident, told ANI.

Earlier today, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management (APSDMA) informed that second level warning continues as the Krishna river water levels at various places, whereas Godavari water has started to recede in most of areas.

According to the SDMA report, this morning, inflow and outflow of Krishna river at Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada are equally 821,250 cusecs.

Owing to the rise in Krishna river water levels, district authorities of Kurnool, Guntur, and Krishna have been kept on high alert.

On Saturday morning, Governor Biswa Bushan Harichandanon conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected regions of the state.Several villages in East Godavari, West Godavari, Guntur and Krishna districts are reeling under flood following heavy rainfall.
