<p>For others -- mainly wealthy Russians -- the quest is to live longer, which they hope to do through intensive monitoring of their bodies, taking vast quantities of supplements or extreme exercise.</p>

<p>Although it's unclear how many biohackers there are in Russia, the movement is spreading, with social media forums, conferences and businesses springing up to cater to their needs.</p>

<p>Zaitsev, a programmer with a ducktail haircut, taught himself to insert chips, helped by the fact he's a medical school dropout.</p>

<p>The 28-year-old caught national attention in 2015 by taking the chip out of a Moscow metro pass, dissolving it in acetone and encasing it in silicone before inserting it into the back of his hand.</p>

<p>The disc, about the size of a British one penny coin, is still visible but currently defunct -- Zaitsev reprogrammed it with bank card details, only for the bank to close.</p>

<p>He also has magnets on his fingertips, mainly for party tricks.</p>

<p>He says the biohacking movement is about using technology to facilitate concrete tasks.</p>

<p>"In biohacking, I like things that give a real, confirmed effect, for example putting in chips," he says.</p>

<p>Based on the contact between the close-knit community on social media, he estimates that about 1,000 Russians are chipped.</p>

<p>Most install work passes, he says, while some insert magnets or a compass implant that vibrates when they turn north.</p>

<p>"I like the idea of expanding the capabilities of the human body."</p>

<p>Around the world, implanted microchips are being used to start cars, turn on smartphones, computers and printers, monitor body temperature and store medical information or as business cards.</p>

<p>Some chips have been approved for human use, but Zaitsev said he uses veterinary ones made in Taiwan and ordered by mail for about 500 rubles ($8) each.</p>

<p>As well as genetic tests to identify personal risk factors and compensate for them, he undergoes tests for inflammation, cholesterol, glucose, bone density, the stress hormone cortisol and the efficiency of his immune system.</p>

<p>Trim with piercing blue eyes, Skakun claims that "in the last five years, my biological age hasn't changed at all."</p>

<p>"If we conquer cancer, Alzheimer's and cardiovascular disease, we'll prevent practically all the reasons we die," he said.</p>

<p>"It's very easy to do if you don't care about the consequences," Musunuru added.</p>

<p>Top US science journal Science said last July that the tools for public and private regulators to manage biohacking's public health risks were largely already available.</p>

<p>"But they must be used better," it said, in an opinion piece.</p>

<p>"We Indians are also now coming up and have seen today's marathon, some of our Indian marathon runners are absolutely running shoulder-to-shoulder with the international runners. Of course, I'm more excited to see the old, specially-abled, and kids also," Rijiju told reporters.</p>

<p>The Great Delhi Run has registered an unprecedented 16,962 runners while the half marathon witnessed a spike of 11 per cent with 13,115 participants.</p>

<p>The 10k run registrations witnessed a jump of 77 per cent to 8,553.The senior citizen runs received 1,430 registrations, while the champions with a disability received 573 registrations.</p>

<p>These inspiring individuals are defying all odds to complete the distance. The IAAF Gold Label race has prize money of $275,000.</p>

<p>"It is a very exciting moment for all of us to see that Delhi Marathon has grown so big. Over the years, Delhi Half Marathon has been peaking up and 40,000 people running on the streets of Delhi early morning. It's a moment what we are waiting for," Rijiju said.</p>

<p>Talking about the 'Fit India Movement', Sports Ministers said that the movement can only be successful if these kinds of marathons are there.</p>

<p>He also praised the Indian athletes and said they are giving tough competition to international athletes.</p>

<p>Being an entrepreneur, closet poet and writer is enough to keep one’s hands full. In addition, to be a dilettante in anthropology, with a passion for uplifting the homo sapien aka ‘us beings’ in some possible manner, is plenty to clog an average person's band-width.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To make matters worse, I am a woman and to make my isolation complete, I do not subscribe to the stereo-typical feminist bandwagon either. As if, all of this was not enough to weigh me down, I lost weight in my late thirties. Substantial enough for people to say from 5 feet distance, “Oh I did not recognise you, as you look much younger”. It seems as if I look like an anomaly, not fitting in my age-group anymore.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>I was reminded of a meeting some 7-8 years back in New York (amongst a string of experiences) when I entered the room to negotiate a business deal with a middle-aged man with strong credentials and legal background. His disappointment at seeing a young Indian girl was so hard to ignore, he almost looked over my shoulder to see if my mentor was accompanying me or at least someone closer to his status. Though at the end of a few interactions over a short period of time, I could somewhat fit into his man’s world. Perhaps, it was slightly easier exercise in the western culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Back home in India when I compare, I find that we are very quick to make extreme judgements. In this technology enabled connected world, to make sense of enormous amount of data, we are making over-reaching simplifications. With a smaller frame now, as a more extended wardrobe became accessible to me, to my chagrin, I lost at least in some eyes my Indian-ness along-with.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>To my mind, the essence of our culture is more abstract than definitive, a civilization that has grown organically, feeding on the assimilation of various forms and ideas. Even in day to day experiences, for instance, keeping diversity concerns aside for a moment, we would rather prepare an elaborate photogenic dinner table for guests, hold fewer dinners and rather suffer from ‘<em>atithi bhayabheeto bhav’ </em>than ‘<em>practice athithi devo bhav’</em>. It was common earlier for an Indian host to have unannounced guests anytime, share a simple meal that was usually prepared for the family. It would be a more honest, less cumbersome and certainly more satiating experience for all.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian-ness was about being sensitive to the community, still experienced in some villages today. It has become conventional parenting now, to coach your wards to run away from the sight of someone else being in trouble. Over time, same child improvises on this, to hide to a safe spot, video graph and post what he witnessed, than to save someone. The wisdom of the spiritual journey is forgotten, a moral deficit is more than acceptable in <em>‘kalyug</em>’. Wearing a perfect Indian outfit, decorated with the clichés of sacrifices, a convenient one amongst them being, neglecting your physical fitness.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>We train our protégé to be clever at other’s cost. To never be naïve, to not necessarily have a new vision of life but be subservient to physical comfort. To me, the other facet of being naïve, is to explore the world from newer angles. To be able to walk without wearing an armory all the time, to be raised in an environment of trust.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>What would happen if we came to raise smarter generations, that are genetically disabled for youthfulness; with all the paraphernalia of Indian-ness but without the rooted concept of basic honesty to self and society? I lost weight, or did we? I rest my case.&nbsp;</p>

Karnataka CM replies to PM Modi's fitness challenge, says 'more concerned about fitness of my state'

<p>Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday said if the youths of Tripura take the fitness challenge campaign of the union sports minister, they would become healthy and the health of the state would improve too.&nbsp</p>

<p>"All the youths should stay fit. If all youths do push-ups they will become healthy and Tripura will become healthy too ... Automatically Tripura will develop 56-inch chest and follow the direction of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' for development," Mr Deb said, apparently alluding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.</p>

<p>PM Modi had reportedly claimed that he had 56-inch chest during his campaigns before the 2014 general election to lash out at the incompetence of his opponents.</p>

<p>Mr Deb said he had himself accepted Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's fitness challenge and tweeted that he does 20 push-ups.</p>

<p>"I could do 20 more. Youths will feel good and fresh if they give 20, 30, 40 push-ups every morning," he said.</p>

<p>Mr Deb said he has requested the union sports minister to provide more funds to develop sports infrastructure in Tripura.</p>

<p>Mr Rathore, he said, agreed to develop a sports complex and sought 17 acres which would include all necessary facilities for sports.</p>

<p>"Development doesn't mean only industries. It also means developing sports. One has to be an all-rounder (to perform well)," the chief minister said at a programme where ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar, tennis star Somdev Dev Varman, national women's football team goalkeeper Laxmita Reang and Dronacharya awardee and gymnast Bisweswar Nandi were felicitated.</p>

<p>Mr Deb said his government would work to further develop sports infrastructure in Tripura and called for Khelo Tripura, Sustho Thako Tripura (Play Tripura, Stay Healthy Tripura).</p>

<p>He said sports stars should be involved in annual sports events of schools and other programmes to encourage promising talents across the state.</p>
