<p>A: I think designers really pushed the envelope this year. I particularly loved the storytelling in Gaurav Gupta&rsquo;s collection &amp; Rahul Mishra&rsquo;s interpretation of grief &amp; life as we know it through his designs. I love how Indian designers really stood out this time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A: &nbsp;⁠I like to work with designers I really believe in. For Rahul Mishra&rsquo;s show, it obviously had to be a Rahul Mishra creation. I&rsquo;ve always admired his understanding of fabric and how he always brings about a certain movement in his garments. I also try to be fresh with every look because I have many sides to my personality and I want my fashion choices to reflect that. I always try and do something new with my looks, be it makeup or fashion.</p>
<p>The moment I saw Abhishek&rsquo;s woollen overcoat, I just knew it was what I wanted to wear. And the fact that this look was poles apart from the Rahul Mishra look, got me very excited. The idea is to show range &amp; versatility.</p>
<p><em>Q: Haute couture isn&rsquo;t just about clothes. Do you feel Indian fashion is now influencing global couture in a more pronounced way?</em></p>
<p>A: Yes, a 100%. The sheer love, support and recognition Indian designers are getting at global events is a testament to how much we&rsquo;ve pushed the envelope. Indians are inspiring the world right.</p>

I think my audience understands and respects the fact that I like to do many things be it comedy, lifestyle, travel fashion or beauty. <p>Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri delivered what industry insiders say might be her last collection for Dior on the first day of Paris Haute Couture Week.&nbsp;</p>

"The saree is an extremely democratic garment; it lends itself beautifully to any body size and shape. Depending on how we style it, it can be worn on any occasion and at any time of the day. The flexibility it provides and the deep-rooted relationship it has within our cultural connotations are what make this garment open to interpretation and engagement, helping it evolve over time and never go out of fashion," she explains. <p>She is part of a small but growing number of women in China challenging restrictive beauty standards, including thinness, pale skin and childlike features.</p>

<p>Online, a frequently circulated saying claims that "there are no good women over 50 kilogrammes (110 pounds)", while recent social media challenges have women squeezing into children's clothes or showing off the coins they can stack on their collarbones.</p>

<p>Yao makes fashionable, high-end clothing for plus-size women, offering a vibrant contrast to the poorly cut offerings normally available in "slimming" dark colours.</p>

<p>"I want my customers to have clothes that express who they are inside, rather than soulless pieces that exist only to make them look thinner," the 35-year-old told AFP.</p>

<p>When it comes to clothing, most Chinese retailers focus on smaller sizes and "think that larger people don't need fashion and don't need beautiful clothes", Yao said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But we have work, we have families, we have respectable lives, and we also need some fancy clothes sometimes."</p>

<p>To promote her online store, Yao posts pictures of her outfits on the Instagram-like Xiaohongshu app, often sporting leggings and tight-fitting workout tops she wears to climb the hills near her office.</p>

<p>"Reject body anxiety," Yao, who openly talks about weighing 100 kilograms, wrote in one post to her more than 15,000 followers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So what if I wear a strappy top and have big arms?"</p>

Yao began selling plus-size clothing four years ago after returning to China from the United Kingdom, where she had worked for several years.</p>

<p>In her Guangzhou office and showroom this month, Yao showed off a Chinese-style pink silk jacket from her brand Yue Design, while modelling a bright green cardigan and skirt set.</p>

<p>"I never post photos of myself wearing black online," Yao said.</p>

<p>By avoiding the colour traditionally recommended for larger women, she has also encouraged some of her customers to embrace brighter, more cheerful designs.</p>

<p>While clothing options for plus-size shoppers remain limited, some Chinese brands have taken steps to be more inclusive in recent years.</p>

<p>Lingerie brand Neiwai and loungewear company An Action A Day have featured larger models in their ads, though most of their items only cater to women up to 70 kilograms.</p>

<p>But this is still a marked deviation from most body image content on Chinese social media.</p>

<p>One recent popular format involves someone posting a photo of themselves and asking viewers for makeover tips.</p>

<p>These posts often draw extreme scrutiny from commenters, who pick on people for flaws as specific as having a square jaw rather than the "ideal" pointed chin.</p>

<p>With constant exposure to idealised body types, people "start to conflate the meaning of their own worth with what they look like," Stephanie Ng, who runs Hong Kong-based mental health organisation Body Banter, told AFP.</p>

<p>That has dangerous consequences, including extreme dieting and eating disorders, Ng said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is little official data on eating disorders in China, but the prominent Shanghai Mental Health Center reported an increase from eight such patients in 2002 to 3,000 in 2021, according to state broadcaster CGTN.</p>

<p>Even though Yao has built a loyal following, her posts can also attract cruel comments.</p>

<p>"Daring to post an ugly photo showing your ring-shaped torso fat doesn't equal confidence," one commenter wrote under one of Yao's workout posts.</p>

<p>She told AFP that the criticism has only made her more determined.</p>

<p>The silver-haired Choi, 81, recently made history by becoming the oldest contestant at a Miss Universe Korea competition, after the pageant dropped age restrictions that had only allowed women aged 18-28 to participate.</p>

<p>"After hearing that the age restrictions were removed I thought - wow that’s great. I cannot miss this opportunity," Choi said.</p>

<p>While she did not win, Choi made it to the finals and was given the 'Best Dressed Award' among her younger rivals.</p>

<p>Her dreams of becoming a fashion model or a movie star when younger had to be put aside so she could take on regular jobs in order to care for her children and meet financial commitments.</p>

<p>It was only while working as a hospital caregiver that her dream became a reality after one of her patients suggested she apply to be a senior model when she was 72.</p>

<p>Choi, who signed up for a modelling academy, recounts how when it was quiet at night in the hospital she practiced being on a catwalk and posing in front of a mirror.</p>

<p>Since then, Choi's new career has taken off and she has appeared at multiple fashion shows and her image has been splashed in magazines and her story covered by television shows.</p>

<p>"I won in the second half of my life. In the first half, I was just running around without scoring any goals, but I finally scored in the second half," she told Reuters.</p>

<p>Yun Mi-young, 59, who is another senior model, said she was inspired by Choi.</p>

<p>"The first time I saw her was on TV, she looked so cool. I thought that I want to be a senior model just like her."</p>

<p>Choi also shares tips on how to stay in shape, including starting each day with a healthy breakfast of boiled eggs and fruit and regularly taking walks in a nearby park.</p>

<p>“It’s the moment we find ourselves. This collection is a tribute to those moments, and an invitation to stop, seek your own moment," he said, as the show drew Oscar winner Jessica Chastain and Italian tennis star and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner among celebrity guests.</p>

<p>Allred said the pageants' eligibility rules -- which stipulate that a contestant must be unmarried, childless, not pregnant and without a legally dependent person -- are "based upon the antiquated stereotype that women cannot be both a mother and be beautiful, poised, passionate, talented and philanthropic."</p>

<p>The classics that make up the British brand's DNA were still there: the trench coat with turned-up collar for men, tartan in shades of grey, beige or cream, and carefully structured outlines.</p>

<p>But even "Burberry icons evolve", wrote Daniel Lee in his note of intent, as "trench elements are deconstructed and realised in fabrics that feel light: silk poplin and linen".</p>

<p>For women, the designer remade the trench as a cropped jacket, a halter cape or a parka with shoulders covered in silk organza faux feather trims, layered over delicate dresses or skirts, blending elegance with a sportier, even military style.</p>

<p>The 23-year-old closed the Kim Shui Spring 2025 ready-to-wear show in a silver and blue floral patterned leotard-style outfit by the designer. For her hair, she opted for two braids that went well with her soft glam makeup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Her tattoos were on full display as she strutted down the runway. Her walk was also on point and she proved that she is no less than a supermodel herself.&nbsp;</p>
