Some other symptoms of his deteriorated health condition are a sagging mouth and drooping expression. With physicians suggesting these are the symptoms that the President could have suffered a stroke. Last year, Donald Trump spent four hours in the Walter Reed Hospital. The White House at first refused to disclose the reason. But later, Trump suggested that he was in the hospital for an MRI. One former White House physician, a Trump appointee, suggests that four hours might be far longer than would be required by an MRI test. Trump later revealed he might not have gotten an MRI at all, but something “less than” that.Trump, on several occasions over the course of 2025, seemed confused and lethargic during several critical meetings. On several occasions, Trump was seen dozing off in the presence of the camera, during cabinet meetings, the Pope’s funeral, military parades and meetings with other world leaders.

Donald Trump sparked fresh alarm at Davos after casually calling himself a dictator, saying sometimes you need one. The offhand remark came after his Greenland-obsessed speech. Here's what he said.

Sometimes people 'need a dictator’: Trump stuns Davos with sinister threat after Greenland rant

US President Donald Trump's speech at Davos 2026 on Wednesday (Jan 21) left many of his European listeners uneasy. The antagonistic speech was long, angry, and full of grievances against European leaders and their resistance to the US taking over Greenland by force. The long, rambling speech also offered a small but notable concession. Here are the key takeaways from Trump's Davos speech.<h2>Europe taking advantage of the US?</h2>Speaking to business leaders and government officials in Davos, Trump spent much of his time accusing Europe of taking advantage of the United States. He questioned why his push to take control of Greenland was facing resistance and criticised European leaders over immigration and economic policy.At one point, he even raised doubts about whether NATO would come to America's defence. He, however, failed to mention that the alliance has only ever invoked its collective defence clause once, after the September 11 attacks on the US.<h2>Trump won't use force against Greenland</h2>For European officials hoping to hear a path out of the growing transatlantic rift, there was one line that stood out."I won't use force," Trump said, referring to Greenland. Before this, Trump had refused to rule out using military power to seize the semiautonomous Danish territory. Removing that threat eased some immediate fears.Markets also reacted, turning higher after losses the day before.But Trump did not soften his underlying demand. "This enormous unsecured island is actually part of North America," he said. "That's our territory." He warned that those who opposed him would be remembered. "You can say no and we will remember," he said.<h2>Greenland deal framework and 500% tariff threat</h2>Later in the day, Trump announced what he called a "framework of a future deal" on Greenland after meeting NATO's secretary general. He said planned tariffs on Europe were now off, though he gave no details. "This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America and all NATO Nations," he wrote on Truth Social.When asked if the deal meant his desire to own Greenland was fulfilled, Trump paused before replying, "It's a long-term deal."<h2>Old grudges, new targets</h2>Trump, in his speech, called Denmark "ungrateful," accused it of failing to defend Greenland in World War II, and questioned why the US ever gave the territory back. "Denmark fell to Germany after just six hours of fighting, and was totally unable to defend either itself or Greenland. So the United States was then compelled, and we did it," he claimed."How stupid were we to do that?" said Trump. "But we did it, but we gave it back. But how ungrateful are they now?"He also mocked French President Emmanuel Macron's "beautiful sunglasses", took aim at Switzerland over tariffs, and warned Canada to be more grateful. "Canada gets a lot of freebies from us, by the way. They should be grateful, but they’re not," he said. Directly addressing Canadian PM Mark Carney, he ominously warned, "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements."Back home, he attacked Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Democratic lawmaker Ilhan Omar, tying her to what he called cultural decline in the West. "She comes from a country that’s not a country, and she’s telling us how to run America," he said during an extended diatribe against Somalia. He further warned that Omar was "not going to get away with it much longer".Trump tries to humiliate EuropeSeemingly intent on humiliating Europeans into giving him Greenland, Trump recalled wars of the past that needed US intervention and claimed, "Without us right now, you’d all be speaking German and a little Japanese".Slamming the 'ungrateful' nations which he insisted were still reliant on America, he claimed, "Without us, most of the countries don’t even work".<h2>A crowd in disbelief</h2>At first, the packed room laughed politely. By the end, it was mostly silent. Some attendees shook their heads as Trump argued for owning Greenland. Others left early as Trump's rambling speech crossed the one-hour mark. Trump, seemingly felt the need to end his speech, and closing it, casually said: "I'll see you around." &nbsp;

"Canada gets a lot of freebies from us, by the way. They should be grateful, but they’re not," he said. Directly addressing Canadian PM Mark Carney, he ominously warned, "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements." Back home, he attacked Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Democratic lawmaker Ilhan Omar, tying her to what he called cultural decline in the West. "She comes from a country that’s not a country, and she’s telling us how to run America," he said during an extended diatribe against Somalia. He further warned that Omar was "not going to get away with it much longer". Trump tries to humiliate Europe Seemingly intent on humiliating Europeans into giving him Greenland, Trump recalled wars of the past that needed US intervention and claimed, "Without us right now, you’d all be speaking German and a little Japanese". Slamming the 'ungrateful' nations which he insisted were still reliant on America, he claimed, "Without us, most of the countries don’t even work". A crowd in disbelief At first, the packed room laughed politely. By the end, it was mostly silent. Some attendees shook their heads as Trump argued for owning Greenland. Others left early as Trump's rambling speech crossed the one-hour mark. Trump, seemingly felt the need to end his speech, and closing it, casually said: "I'll see you around."

US President Donald Trump’s Davos speech rattled Europe as he accused allies of exploiting the US, demanded Greenland, and warned NATO and Canada. Here are the key takeaways.

Trump said in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday that he had threatened Macron with tariffs to cajole him into increasing drug prices in France. “I said, ‘Here’s the story, Emmanuel, the answer is, you’re going to do it, you’re going to do it fast. And if you don’t, I’m putting a 25% tariff on everything that you sell into the United States, and a 100% tariff on your wines and champagnes,” Trump said.“(And Macron said) ‘No, no, Donald, I will do it, I will do it’. It took me on average three minutes a country, saying the same thing, ‘You will do it’,” Trump said. US President Donald Trump has said he is optimistic about reaching a favourable trade agreement with India, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “fantastic leader” and a close personal friend. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Trump responded to a question from a Moneycontrol journalist about stalled India-US trade talks. He said he holds Modi in high regard and expressed confidence that the two countries would eventually strike a positive deal.&nbsp;The remarks come nearly five months after the United States imposed steep tariffs of up to 50% on certain Indian exports. Trump had earlier described half of the tariff hike as a “penalty” linked to India’s continued purchase of Russian oil. Since then, uncertainty has surrounded the future of a trade agreement. Negotiations between Indian and American officials began even before the tariffs were implemented, with formal discussions launched in March-April 2025 after talks were approved in February. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday predicted a rapid economic turnaround for Venezuela, telling global leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the South American country would “make more money in six months than it did in six years.”

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (January 21) revisited remarks made last year by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who had jokingly referred to him as “daddy,” while also confusing Greenland with Iceland as he renewed his call to acquire the Danish autonomous territory. Trump said he had been helping Europe and NATO for decades and claimed that allies were highly supportive of him until recently. Referring to past praise, he recalled being called “daddy” by a “very smart man” who, he said, believed Trump was running things. Trump then complained that he had gone from being praised to being portrayed as a terrible person.&nbsp;He argued that his current request, seeking control of what he described as a cold, remote “piece of ice”—was modest compared to what the US had given NATO over many years, insisting the territory was strategically important for global security and peace. They were calling nonstop,” he remarked, adding that the reaction led him to conclude that Switzerland’s economic strength depends heavily on the United States.&nbsp;He suggested the tariffs could have been even more severe, claiming that higher rates would have caused serious financial damage to the country. After months of negotiations, however, the tariff was reduced to 15%, matching the rate applied to goods from the European Union. The remarks drew a mix of uncomfortable laughter and quiet disapproval from audience members, though most attendees remained silent as Trump aired his complaints.&nbsp;Later in the day, Trump struck a markedly different tone during a bilateral meeting with the president of the Swiss Confederation, praising Switzerland and describing it as a great country.

Davos 2026: Trump To Discuss US Economic Successes at Davos

President Donald Trump’s renewed effort to bring Greenland under US control is triggering unease among Republicans on Capitol Hill, exposing widening cracks within the party over America’s expanding military footprint overseas. While Democrats have firmly opposed the idea, it is still uncertain whether enough Republicans are prepared to break ranks and actively block any attempt to acquire the Arctic territory. Just as unclear is whether Trump would heed Congressional resistance or move forward unilaterally, continuing a pattern seen throughout his second term as US involvement abroad has intensified.&nbsp;What started as a debate over Greenland has evolved into a larger confrontation over the Trump administration’s use of military power, economic pressure, and diplomatic leverage to advance American interests in places such as Venezuela, Iran, and beyond. Although Republicans have largely stood behind Trump’s foreign policy since his return to office, resistance is growing. A number of GOP lawmakers are now aligning with Democrats and NATO partners, arguing that a takeover of Greenland would breach both US law and international norms.&nbsp;Several Republican leaders have publicly dismissed the idea of purchasing Greenland or using military force to seize it. Others have joined Democrats in pushing back against Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs on countries that refuse to support his bid for the territory, which governs itself but remains under Danish sovereignty. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina warned that such tariffs would harm American businesses and allies while strengthening geopolitical rivals. He said the policy would play directly into the hands of leaders like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping by weakening NATO cohesion. Can US President Donald Trump bypass Congress on Greenland or will lawmakers intervene?

President Donald Trump’s renewed effort to bring Greenland under US control is triggering unease among Republicans on Capitol Hill, exposing widening cracks within the party over America’s expanding military footprint overseas. While Democrats have firmly opposed the idea, it is still uncertain whether enough Republicans are prepared to break ranks and actively block any attempt to acquire the Arctic territory. Just as unclear is whether Trump would heed Congressional resistance or move forward unilaterally, continuing a pattern seen throughout his second term as US involvement abroad has intensified. What started as a debate over Greenland has evolved into a larger confrontation over the Trump administration’s use of military power, economic pressure, and diplomatic leverage to advance American interests in places such as Venezuela, Iran, and beyond. Although Republicans have largely stood behind Trump’s foreign policy since his return to office, resistance is growing. A number of GOP lawmakers are now aligning with Democrats and NATO partners, arguing that a takeover of Greenland would breach both US law and international norms. Several Republican leaders have publicly dismissed the idea of purchasing Greenland or using military force to seize it. Additional Republican voices have cautioned that Trump’s ambitions risk destabilising the transatlantic alliance at a time when relations between the US and Europe are already strained.
