<p>“I couldn’t care less, whatever she wants to be is OK with me,” Trump said clarifying that he had read Harris “put out” that she was not Black, “then I read that she was Black.”</p>

<p>Responding to her Republican rival's comments, Harris expressed disappointment stating that it was a "tragedy" to witness a presidential hopeful seeking to divide the nation by inflaming racial tensions.</p>

<p>"I think it's a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president who has consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the American people," she said.</p>

<h2><strong>What did Trump say?</strong></h2>

<p>In the month of July, the former US president had claimed that Harris was trying to mislead voters by "turning Black".</p>

<p>“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said in a controversial interaction with African American journalists in Chicago.</p>

<p>Dismissing the claims, the Democratic presidential candidate Harris had then said that "the same old show" of "divisiveness and disrespect" was expected from Trump.</p>

<p>If the poll figures translate&nbsp;into reality, it would represent a higher share of votes for Trump than he&nbsp;received at the ballot box in either 2016 or 2020.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The poll results come a couple of days before the first and potentially only televised debate between Trump and Harris. Judge Juan Merchan gave the ruling after Trump’s attorneys urged him to postpone the September 18 sentencing to allow the GOP leader to also appeal a pending ruling involving presidential immunity.</p>

<p>"This is not a decision this Court makes lightly but it is the decision which in this Court's view, best advances the interests of justice," the judge wrote.</p>

<p>The ruling in the case was expected on September 18.</p>

<p>Trump has already been convicted in May on 34 counts of manipulating business records to hide payments allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniels near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign.</p>

In a statement, Cheney hit out at the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by saying, "never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump."</p>

<p>"He (Trump)&nbsp;tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.&nbsp;He can never be trusted with power again," Cheney said.</p>

<p>"As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our constitution.&nbsp;That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice-President Kamala Harris," he added.</p>

<p>Cheney served as vice president under Republican President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.</p>

<p>He has faced criticism over the years from human rights groups as he played a large role in planning the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which produced a heavy civilian death toll and human rights abuses.</p>
