The bullet that killed the would-be-assassin of former United States (US) president Donald Trump on July 13, was a "one-in-a-million shot," Fox News reported on Saturday (July 20) citing a source. The source said the kill shot was a single shot taken by a Secret Service counter-sniper whose view was obscured. A local tactical team also took a shot at the would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks, but missed. Secret Service sniper could only see Crooks' gun scope The source told Fox News on Saturday that the Secret Service sniper could only see Crooks’ gun scope and the top of his eye and forehead because the lip of the roof was blocking the sniper’s view. Also read | Zuckerberg who once banned Trump from Meta, calls him 'badass' after surviving assassination bid It was a one-in-a-million shot, the source added. Secret Service chief faces calls to resign The above revelation comes as more details emerged about the botched security detail that allowed Crooks to climb onto a building, get a clear sight of Trump, and open fire on him. Trump, the current Republican presidential candidate, was not severely wounded but suffered an injury on his right ear. Fox News reported that while the Secret Service agents who stopped Crooks and protected Trump were being praised, the agency's director Kimberly Cheatle was being criticised for her handling of the matter. Cheatle has been facing calls to resign from lawmakers. Security tightened for Trump's upcoming rally An increased security detail, road closures, and tighter checks should be expected among the measures taken by the Secret Service for Trump's upcoming rally which will be held at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena later on Saturday. “Yeah, obviously, given the event that happened last week, right, I think you're going to see some increase. I think you've already seen it, you've been watching the the RNC (Republican National Convention), right, the number of agents that have been around former President Trump has been kind of way more than you would typically see," Former agency agent Jason Russell told the news agency Reuters. “You're definitely going to see some road closures around the venue, I think, just to facilitate getting the motorcade in and out, and also because you're going to see enough people that you probably won't be able to keep them just, you know, on, on the sidewalk,” Russell added. Nancy Pelosi, former House Speaker privately told US President Joe Biden in a recent conversation that various polls&nbsp;indicate&nbsp;that he cannot defeat Donald Trump and that his continued pursuit of a second term could risk Democrats' chances of winning the House in November, according to sources.

On hearing this, the president replied that he has seen polls that show he can win, one source told&nbsp;CNN.

At one point, Pelosi even asked Mike Donilon, Biden’s longtime adviser, to get on the line to talk over the data, said another source.

In the weeks following the debate, Pelosi has been listening to concerns from her colleagues. She made headlines last week after she said in an interview, "It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short."

However, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates did not respond when asked about the recent Pelosi-Biden call.

Thanking Trump for the nomination, Vance said: "Mr President, I will never take for granted the trust you have put in me. And what an honour it is to help achieve the extraordinary vision that you have for this country."

"Now I pledge to every American, no matter your party, I will give you everything I have to serve you and to make this country a place where every dream you have for yourself, your family and your country will be possible once again."

<h2>Vance's meteoric rise in politics</h2>

"It's not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term, it's whether a child should be allowed to live, even though the circumstances of that child's birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society," he said.&nbsp;

"The question really, to me, is about the baby," he added.

Vivek Ramaswamy backs Donald Trump in fiery RNC speech, says Republican can 'actually UNITE this country'

Nikki Haley endorsed Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Tuesday (July 16) as the party seeks to promote unity and attract voters beyond Biden's base.

"I'll start by making one thing perfectly clear," Haley said. "Donald Trump has my strong endorsement."&nbsp;

Earlier, when Haley dropped out of the primary race against Trump in March, she refused to endorse him, stating he needed to earn the votes of the people who did not support him.

However, in May, she said she would vote for him, despite her strong criticism of him throughout the campaign.&nbsp;

The former Rival said, Trump asked her to speak at the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, "in the name of unity."&nbsp;

"It was a gracious invitation, and I was happy to accept it," Haley said.&nbsp;

To attract voters to the Republican Party, she emphasised the importance of acknowledging that there are Americans who don't always agree with the former president.

"My message to them is quite simple. You don't have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him. Take it from me," Haley said.

She also mentioned that US is at a critical moment and for the country's sake, "we have to go with Donald Trump."&nbsp;

"Americans were well served by his presidency, even if they didn't agree with them on all things," she said.&nbsp;

"Now to my fellow Republicans, we must not only be a united party, we must also expand our party. We are so much better when we are bigger. We are stronger when we welcome people into our party who have different backgrounds and experiences," Haley added.&nbsp;

Republicans are aiming to capitalise on a surge of support during the convention, following an assassination attempt on Trump this past Saturday.

Donald Trump arrived in the convention arena shortly before the speeches of Haley and some of his other former rivals, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

<h2>We cannot let&nbsp;Trump down in 2024:&nbsp;DeSantis</h2>

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis urged Americans to stand with the former president Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump, he’s been demonized. He’s been sued. He’s been prosecuted. And he nearly lost his life. We cannot let him down, and we cannot let America down,” DeSantis said.

“I am alarmed that the current president of the United States lacks the capability to discharge the duties of his office,” he added.

“Let’s be honest here. Biden is just a figurehead. He’s a tool for imposing the leftist agenda on the American people,” DeSantis further said.&nbsp;

We cannot let Trump down in 2024: DeSantis Florida Gov. “Let’s be honest here. Biden is just a figurehead. He’s a tool for imposing the leftist agenda on the American people,” DeSantis further said. (With inputs from agencies)

Trump makes first public appearance since assassination attempt

On the first day of the Republican National Convention, Ohio Senator JD Vance received an official ticket for the 2024 Presidential elections as former US President Donald Trump's running mate. If the current polls convert to reality, Vance will be the next Vice President of the United States.

Eight years ago, 39-year-old freshman senator from Ohio, said he feared Trump could become “America’s Hitler”. Vance is married to Usha Chilukuri, a corporate litigator based in San Francisco, whose parents are from India. During their wedding in Kentucky in 2014, they also had a separate ceremony where they were blessed by a Hindu pundit, as reported by The New York Times.

Vance grew up in Middletown, Ohio, and joined the US Marines after high school, serving as a combat journalist and public relations officer during the Iraq War.

After his military service, he completed a degree in political science and philosophy at Ohio State University. He then studied law at Yale Law School, where he was an editor for the Yale Law Journal.

Upon graduating from Yale in 2013, he practiced law briefly before moving to San Francisco to work as a venture capitalist, including a role at Peter Thiel’s Mithril Capital.

Vance gained fame with his 2016 best-seller, Hillbilly Elegy. Released the same year Trump first took office, the book was seen as an insightful look into rural America, which contributed to Trump's rise.

The New York Times described Hillbilly Elegy as "a compassionate, discerning sociological analysis of the white underclass that has influenced the politics of rebellion, notably Donald J. Trump’s rise." A film adaptation of the book came out in 2020.

At that time, Vance was a vocal critic of Trump. In an October 2016 interview, Vance cakled himself "Never Trump guy”. In a July 2016 op-ed for The Atlantic, he argued that Trump’s promises were like “cultural heroin,” offering temporary relief but failing to address deeper issues.

Vance’s views on Trump are notably different now. He reportedly voted for Trump in 2020 and, with Trump’s endorsement, won his first Senate seat in 2022.

According to The NYT, Vance has "explained his ideological shifts as a result of a twofold intellectual awakening,&nbsp;it turned out that Donald Trump wasn’t as bad as Vance had thought, and that American liberals were much worse."

In a June interview with The NYT, Vance said,&nbsp;“I allowed myself to focus so much on the stylistic element of Trump that I completely ignored the way in which he substantively was offering something very different on foreign policy, on trade, on immigration.”

Today, Vance is a staunch defender of Trump and aligns with many of his views. He has also become "the standard-bearer of the ‘New Right’, a loose movement of young conservatives aiming to steer the Republican Party towards a more populist, nationalist, and culturally conservative stance," according to Politico.

In a post on Truth Social announcing the appointment, Trump said that Vance “will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.” Several of these Midwestern states are likely to play a critical role in November’s election.

Donald Trump assassination attempt: Viral video triggers criticism over female Secret Service agents' response

Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks:&nbsp;While it has not been fully established that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the shooter who targeted Donald Trump on Saturday (Jul&nbsp;13), was a member of Antifa, the group has come under sharp focus after the failed assassination attempt on the Republican presumptive nominee for US presidential race.

Here is what you should know about Antifa:

<h2>What is Antifa?</h2>

Antifa stands for anti-Fascist Action. It is largely an all-American organisation at present, but its origins can be traced to similar resistance movements against Fascist and Nazi ideology in Europe during World War 2. Fascism grew from the ideas of leaders like Benito Mussolini of Italy and Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany in the 20th century.

More than a cohesive group, Antifa is a loose coalition of affiliate chapters in the US and a few&nbsp;across the world. Its aim is to resist the spread of Fascist ideology, mainly in the Western world. Often, its methodologies are anarchist, and its ideas are characterised as far-left. Antifa membership ranges from socialists and communists to extreme leftists,&nbsp;anti-state and anti-capitalism activists.&nbsp;In some cases, they are known to resort to violence to make their messages heard.

The word Antifa itself originated from the German short form for 'antifaschistisch', meaning anti-fascist. That comes from Antifaschistische Aktion, an organisation active in the 1932–1933 period as resistance to Fascism and Hitler's Nazi&nbsp;regime. The German group inspired several other movements over the years, which died down before their 21st-century revival. The German group itself was inspired by the Italian 'anti-Fascisti' or anti-fascist groups.

The Antifa movement in America came into the public glare since 2016 when Trump was elected the US president.

<h2>What is the modus operandi of Antifa?</h2>

Antifa group members are in fact far less in number than the media coverage they get. Most of them join larger protests, but stand out as they are identifiable by their generally black outfits, masks and rider helmets. During his presidency, Trump and many right-wing leaders called all anti-racist, anti-right protesters 'Antifa', mainly with the aim of making them look bigger than they really were so that they could be pointed out as a threat to society and the American way of life.&nbsp;

Antifa members organise their protests mainly via online chatgroups and social media.

Antifa protests range from non-violent resistance to outright fisticuffs. Since 2017, they have engaged in throwing Molotov cocktails at law enforcement, and the destruction of property.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/trump-assassination-attempt-it-didnt-kill-him-but-will-it-make-him-stronger-740696">Also read |&nbsp;Trump assassination attempt: It didn't kill him, but will it make him stronger?</a>

<h2>How did Antifa become popular in America?</h2>

Antifa became part of American consciousness and public discourse after they took part in several high-profile protests during Trump's presidency from 2016 to 2020. These include marches organised in the aftermath of George Floyd's death in 2020. Floyd was a Black man who died after being tackled by Minneapolis cops while apparently resisting arrest. His last words, "I can't breathe," became the rallying cry for Black Lives Matter protests, which were joined by Antifa and several anti-racist, anti-white pride, and anti-supremacist groups.

In a way, Antifa is the antithesis of the rise of right-wing, racist, neo-Fascist, neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups like Proud Boys, Oathkeepers and Boogaloo Bois.

Left-wingers who could not express their views within the two-party system of America, which consists of Democrats and Republicans, often lean on groups such as Antifa. Such groups&nbsp;become the gathering point for those who feel that mainstream politicians and media are not focusing enough on issues like white supremacy, crony capitalism and racism.

<h2>Trump wanted to ban Antifa</h2>

During his presidency, Trump often threatened to ban Antifa, as it took part in violent protests against right-wing ideas represented by him. In several places, particularly in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, Antifa organised counter-protests against right-wing and extreme-right organisations.&nbsp;

Charlottesville was the site of the so-called Unite the Right rally organised by&nbsp;various groups like white supremacists, so-called alt-right, extreme nationalists, neo-fascists and neo-Nazis.

Their 'torch march'&nbsp; was confronted by left-wing and anarchist counter-protesters including Antifa. At the time, Trump had put the blame on some 'very violent people' on both sides and tried to bring in equivalence between the two.

On several occasions, he expressed the intention to classify Antifa as a 'domestic terrorist organisation' but didn't find much support from the legal establishment during his first presidency. There are no legal provisions to designate an organisation as a domestic terrorist in the US, part of the reason being its constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech.&nbsp;

Trump rally shooting: What is Antifa, the movement allegedly linked to failed assassin Thomas Crooks?

A witness to Saturday's shooting at a Donald Trump rally told how a man next to him was shot dead during the apparent assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.

"I heard several gunshots. The man beside me suffered a gun shot to the head, was instantly killed (and) fell to the bottom of the bleachers. Another woman looked like she got hit in the forearm or hand," the man, whose name was only given as Joseph, told NBC News.

"I heard several gunshots. The man beside me suffered a gun shot to the head, was instantly killed (and) fell to the bottom of the bleachers. Another woman looked like she got hit in the forearm or hand," the man, whose name was only given as Joseph, told NBC News. He said it seemed the victim was "in the way of the shots between whoever was shooting the gun and the president." Trump rally shooting: Witness recounts how man next to him was shot dead as former prez survived

Donald Trump survived an apparent assassination bid on Saturday (Jul&nbsp;13) as the Republican presumptive nominee for the US presidential election&nbsp;was addressing a rally in Pennsylvania. What does it mean for the former president's prospects in the November presidential election?

"What does not kill me, makes me stronger," wrote 19th-century&nbsp;German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in&nbsp;Twilight of the Idols.

Will Trump emerge stronger from the bid on his life&nbsp;by a rooftop shooter whose bullets managed to graze his ear, leaving him with a trail of blood on his face?

Did the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, make Trump invincible?

Trump was already ahead in many of the polls, but the main focus this pre-election season was on his Democratic rival and current president Joe Biden's fitness to run again for the White House.&nbsp;

After a multitude of gaffes which continued till last week - he reportedly called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as Vladimir Putin, the Russian president who invaded Ukraine - many in his Democratic party&nbsp;and donors asked him to exit the race.

The real election season will kick off with the party conventions of Republicans on 15-18 July and Democrats on 19-22 August.&nbsp;There was no doubt that Trump would be endorsed at the GOP convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but for Democrats, it's a different story before going to the event to be held in Chicago, Illinois.&nbsp;

Even after he wrote a stern letter to Democrats saying the 'drama should end' by asking him to step aside, uncertainty is growing about the viability of Biden's candidacy. Now, the assassination bid on Trump, just two days ahead of the Republican National Convention, will only add to Biden's woes.

For one, any doubters or fence-sitters in the Republican party and many 'neutral' or 'independent' voters might have a change of heart with regard to Trump.&nbsp;

Those who had misgivings about him in the wake of multiple court cases might now support him.

Making him legally ineligible, through criminal convictions in any one of the cases, was one possibility. The last major poll, published just a day before the Trump assassination attempt, found that two in three Americans felt Biden should step aside. At the same time, the poll, done by ABC News, Washington Post and Ipsos, said that most respondents felt both Biden and Trump, who is 78,&nbsp; are too old. It is also important that the shooting happened in Pennsylvania. With 19 electoral votes, which is one of the highest when compared to its population, the Rust Belt state holds key importance in every election season. It is a swing state, as it did not vote specifically for either Democrats or Republicans on a regular basis.

The mood of the Republican party as well as the hardline Trump supporters are set now. Trump's defiant fist-pumping and shouting "USA-USA" after being aided up from the ground is going to be the most iconic image of this election season. The Republican political machinery will milk the footage for every vote.&nbsp;

Trump assassination attempt: It didn't kill him, but will it make him stronger?

Donald Trump mocked Joe Biden, who is under significant pressure due to concerns over his mental fitness after the US president made verbal slips during a high-stakes press conference.

"Crooked Joe begins his 'Big Boy' Press Conference with, 'I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president... Great job, Joe!" Trump said on his Truth Social site on Thursday (Jul 11).

<h2>Joe Biden Gaffes</h2>

US President Joe Biden referred to his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelensky as "President Putin" before correcting himself at the NATO Summit in Washington on Thursday.

"And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” Biden said.

“Going to beat President Putin, President Zelensky. I am so focused on beating Putin,” he said as a number of European leaders clapped hesitantly, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

However, &nbsp;Zelensky replied to Biden’s comments and said, “I am better (than Putin).”

<h2>A similar flub</h2>

When asked if he had concerns about Harris' ability to defeat Trump if she were the presidential candidate, Biden responded saying, “Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president [if] I think she’s not qualified to be president.”&nbsp;He did not correct this mistake.

Dismissing the reports that he has asked his staff to end events earlier so he could get more sleep, he said, he never made that request. However, he did say it would be ‘smarter to pace myself a little more”.

Biden also called the debate performance against Trump ‘a mistake’ and said his schedule since then has been “full-bore”.

<h2>Confident that he could beat Trump</h2>

Near the conclusion of the press conference, Biden discussed his decision to continue his candidacy, despite initially describing himself as a transitional figure in 2020, aiming to pave the way for a younger generation of Democrats.

“Others could win, but they would have to start from scratch right now,” Biden remarked.

He also maintained that he believes he remains the ‘most qualified person to run for president.’

“I defeated Trump once, and I will defeat him again,” the president said.

'Great Job Joe': Trump mocks Biden's gaffes and key takeaways from NATO presser

Donald Trump has challenged Joe Biden to another presidential debate and an 18-hole golf match, vowing to donate to charity if he loses the game.

"I'm also officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here on Doral's Blue Monster… It will be among the most-watched sporting events in history. Maybe bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters," Trump said in Florida.

He vowed to donate $1 million to charity if he loses the golf match.

"And if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity of his choice, $1 million. And I'll bet you he doesn't take the offer," he said.

"Did you ever see him swing?,"&nbsp;the presumptive Republican presidential nominee asked supporters in a campaign speech.

The Biden campaign responded by saying the US president "doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics–he’s busy leading America and defending the free world. Donald Trump is a liar, a convict, and a fraud only out for himself–par for the course."

"We’d challenge Donald Trump to create jobs, but he lost 3 million. We’d challenge Donald Trump to stand up to Putin, but he bent the knee to him. We’d challenge Donald Trump to follow the law, but he breaks it. We’d challenge Donald Trump to not destroy our country, but that’s all his Project 2025 aims to do", said Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer.

<h2>Seventh Democrat seeks Biden's exit from race</h2>

In the wake of a disastrous performance at the June 27 presidential debate, Biden faced calls to step aside, from his own Democratic Party, media, and donors. But in a stern letter to the party, he said he's staying in the race and asked for the "drama to end".

Trump's comments came even as a seventh House Democrat asked Biden to leave the race.

Mikie Sherrill issued a statement on Tuesday (July 9) seeking Biden's exit.

"Because I know President Biden cares deeply about the future of our country, I am asking that he declare that he won’t run for reelection and will help lead us through a process toward a new nominee," said the Representative from New Jersey.

<h2>Biden showing signs of neurodegeneration?</h2>

There have been reports in the past days that a neurologist with specialisation in Parkinson's disease had visited the White House eight times in the past eight months.

A separate neurologist, speaking to NBC News, said Biden has signs of 'neurodegeneration.'

“I could have diagnosed him from across the mall,” said Dr. Tom Pitts, who claimed Biden had “classic features of neurodegeneration”.

Trump challenges Biden to 18-hole golf match, second debate: 'Will donate to charity if...'

Russia prefers Donald Trump as the new President of the United States, revealed a US intelligence officer while briefing reporters on Tuesday (July 9).

US Elections 2024 are the contest that decides which leader Americans prefer, so why does Russia's preference matter?

<h2>Russia's preference and the US Elections</h2>

In the US elections, the public will decide whether Democrat presumptive candidate and current US President Joe Biden will once again take the helm of the Western power or whether his rival Republican presumptive candidate Trump will take over.

However, Russia can influence the decision in favour of one candidate or the other, thus impeding fair elections.

<h2>Russia and US elections: Historical context</h2>

As per the Reuters news agency, historically, US intelligence assessments have indicated that Moscow attempted to influence the elections in favour of Trump in both 2016 against Hillary Clinton and 2020 against Joe Biden.&nbsp;

Talking to the press, the official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) reiterated that these assessments remain unchanged.

<h2>Why does Russia prefer Trump?</h2>

Russia's favour for Trump largely has to do with the US's role in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.

"We have not observed a shift in Russia's preferences for the presidential race from past elections, given the role the US is playing with regard to Ukraine and broader policy toward Russia," said the official.

Trump has in recent days criticised the extent of US military support for Ukraine — totalling around $60 billion since Russia's invasion in 2022 — and referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "the greatest salesman ever."&nbsp;

Furthermore, Trump's national security advisers have suggested ending US military aid to Ukraine unless it engages in peace talks with Russia.&nbsp;

On NATO, the ex-president&nbsp;plans to "encourage" Russia to do "whatever the hell they want" against alliance members not meeting defence spending targets. This is in direct contradiction to NATO's collective defence obligations.

Conducting the briefing with anonymity, officials from ODNI, FBI, and National Coordinator for Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience officials, highlighted the difference between election influence (shaping poll outcomes or undermining democratic processes) and interference (disrupting the ability to hold a free and fair vote).&nbsp;

Currently, the US has not found evidence of plans by any country to disrupt the upcoming November elections,&nbsp;they said.

However, the official revealed that Russia has begun efforts to influence specific voter groups in battleground states, promoting divisive narratives and denigrating particular politicians. These efforts, primarily conducted through social media and using US voices, aim to shape the presidential, congressional, and public opinion.

<h2>Is China looking to&nbsp;influence US elections?</h2>

As per the report, unlike Russia, China is not actively planning to influence the presidential race, although it seeks to expand its capability to collect and monitor data from social media "probably to better understand and eventually manipulate public opinion," said the official.

"We have not observed a shift in Russia's preferences for the presidential race from past elections, given the role the US is playing with regard to Ukraine and broader policy toward Russia," said the official. Also read | White House rubbishes President Biden Parkinson's speculations, refuses to elaborate on mystery doctor visits Trump has in recent days criticised the extent of US military support for Ukraine — totalling around $60 billion since Russia's invasion in 2022 — and referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "the greatest salesman ever." Furthermore, Trump's national security advisers have suggested ending US military aid to Ukraine unless it engages in peace talks with Russia. On NATO, the ex-president plans to "encourage" Russia to do "whatever the hell they want" against alliance members not meeting defence spending targets. This is in direct contradiction to NATO's collective defence obligations. Conducting the briefing with anonymity, officials from ODNI, FBI, and National Coordinator for Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience officials, highlighted the difference between election influence (shaping poll outcomes or undermining democratic processes) and interference (disrupting the ability to hold a free and fair vote). Currently, the US has not found evidence of plans by any country to disrupt the upcoming November elections, they said. However, the official revealed that Russia has begun efforts to influence specific voter groups in battleground states, promoting divisive narratives and denigrating particular politicians. These efforts, primarily conducted through social media and using US voices, aim to shape the presidential, congressional, and public opinion. Is China looking to influence US elections? As per the report, unlike Russia, China is not actively planning to influence the presidential race, although it seeks to expand its capability to collect and monitor data from social media "probably to better understand and eventually manipulate public opinion," said the official. US Elections 2024: American intelligence reveals Russia still prefers Trump as President. Here's why

US Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday (July 9) reiterated her support for Joe Biden. Describing the embattled president as a "fighter" Harris during her speech at a Las Vegas event focused on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities&nbsp;warned that Biden's rival, Republican Donald Trump would turn America into a 'dictatorship' if re-elected to the White House.&nbsp;

<h2>Joe Biden is a 'fighter'</h2>

Speaking at a campaign event in Nevada, Harris referred to questions around Biden's age and the rumours about his ability to lead the country and said: "We always knew this election would be tough, and the past few days have been a reminder that running for President of the United States is never easy."

Harris said that American voters face the "most existential, consequential and important election of our lifetime".

Kamala Harris declares Joe Biden a 'fighter,' warns Trump will push nation into dictatorship

Joe Biden, it seems, is pulling a 'Trump'. The US President, looking forward to another term in the White House, as per reports, has taken a page out of his Republican rival Donald Trump's book. On Monday (Jul 8), the Democrat dialled into a morning TV show, lamenting against the "elite" Democrats asking him to quit the election race.

The move, as per news agency AFP, is reminiscent of Trump's days as a president when he would routinely phone into conservative Fox and Friends TV show prattling about whatever struck his fancy.

<h2>What did Biden say?</h2>

Phoning into liberal-leaning MSNBC network's Morning Joe programme, a fiery-sounding Biden said he's "getting so frustrated by the elites."

"I'm not talking about you guys — the elites in the party, 'Oh, they know so much more,'" he ranted.

Putting out an open challenge to the Democrats against his presidential re-run, he added,&nbsp;"Any of these guys that don't think I should run — run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention."

The "elite" narrative is nothing new. Populist leaders, including Trump, have used it to rally people against the "elites" while being a part of the so-called group themselves.

His phone-in speech of sorts garnered mixed responses. On one hand, Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for&nbsp;Barack Obama, commented that while Biden's "energy is great", his "message absolutely sucks," labelling it "Angry, defensive, lashing out at all the wrong people."

On the other hand, the likes of Hollywood director&nbsp;Rob Reiner known for movies like When Harry Met Sally&nbsp;said if Biden were to keep up similar performances until the November elections "he'll be able to shut up people like me who think he should step aside."

<h2>Biden goes 'full Trump'</h2>

This is not the only inspiration the usually mild-mannered Biden has taken from Trump.

Joe Biden has taken to touting the huge crowd at his rallies, a move right out of his predecessor's playbook.

At a campaign rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he boasted to his audience, "We've been drawing big crowds. Ever since the debate, not joking, even that night we had big crowds afterwards."

He has also taken to bragging about his accomplishments, to the press and his congressmen peers — in the letter he wrote recently.

Not only that, Biden has also taken up Trump's typically aggressive persona to slam him, whether by calling him a "loser" a threat to democracy or slamming him for having "sex with a porn star" during the Presidential debate watched by 50 million people.

People have also commented on him borrowing Trump's signature "orange" sheen. As Paul Murray, a commentator on Sky Australia, commented recently, Biden had gone from "white to orange".&nbsp;

"Is he trying to trick the voters of America that he's Donald Trump?" he asked jokingly.

'Trump-style' TV rant: Biden slams Democrat party 'elites,' challenges rivals to run against him

The race is already heating up. In just a few months, the Democratic Party's (presumptive) presidential&nbsp;candidate will face off the Republican Party's (presumptive) candidate in the 2024 US Elections.

Already, many polls show that the elections scheduled for November will be a hard-fought, albeit close race. These are the important dates in the election race set to conclude on November 5.

<h2>US Election Schedule: July 2024</h2>

- July 15-18: At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the GOP will formally choose its candidate.

- Vice-president face-off: Joe Biden's running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, has agreed to debate Donald Trump's yet-to-be-announced running mate. The debate by CBS can happen either on July 23 or on August 13.&nbsp;

Trump's campaign is yet to say whether his running mate would debate Harris on CBS.

Another debate between the two running mates may happen on Fox News around the same time. While Trump has accepted the vice presidential debate invite on behalf of his VP candidate, Biden's campaign is yet to revert on Harris' availability.

Fox, as per Reuters, wrote to both campaigns and suggested July 23, August 13 or other dates following the party conventions.&nbsp;The Biden campaign has not confirmed if Harris would debate on Fox.

<h2>US Election Schedule: August 2024</h2>

- By August 7: The Democratic Party will hold a "virtual roll call" to nominate Biden. It is scheduled to take place by August 7, the original ballot certification deadline in Ohio — this date has been pushed back.

- August 19-22: Biden will&nbsp;officially be nominated at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

<h2>US Election Schedule: September 2024</h2>

- September 10: Hosted by ABC, the second debate between Biden and Trump.

- September 18: Should the judge decide to uphold the conviction, Donald Trump, the first sitting or former US president to be convicted of a crime, will be sentenced in the Manhattan hush-money case.&nbsp;

He was found guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star on May 30.

While not a part of the election schedule, this can potentially have huge ramifications on the race to the White House.

The sentencing was scheduled for July 11 but was delayed, so the judge could weigh Trump's argument that he should have been immune from prosecution under the recent landmark Supreme Court ruling. In July, the SCOTUS ruled that presidents cannot be criminally prosecuted for official acts.

<h2>US Election Schedule: November 2024</h2>

- November 5: Election Day

As per Statista, the US has 161.4 million registered voters.&nbsp;

Election results could take days, but would be expected later in November.

<h2>US Election Schedule: 2025</h2>

- January 6: The vice president will preside over the Electoral College vote count at a joint session of Congress at Capitol Hill. They will announce the results and declare who will be the next&nbsp;President of the United States.&nbsp;

In 2020, ahead of the count, then-President Trump lambasted his vice president, Mike Pence, for refusing to try to prevent Congress from certifying Biden's win. He allegedly rallied his supporters, who then attacked the US Capitol.

- January 20:&nbsp;The inauguration ceremony for the election winner and their vice president will happen. At this ceremony, the next president&nbsp;and vice-president will be officially sworn into office.

Trump vs Biden: Important dates in the 2024 US presidential elections

Just days after Joe Biden's abysmal performance in the debate opposite rival Donald Trump, the White House in a statement on Wednesday (July 3) said that the Democrat leader is "absolutely not" pulling out of the US presidential race.

<h2>'Clear-eyed' Joe</h2>

Speaking to the press, Biden's spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre rejected reports about internal rumblings about finding a replacement candidate before November&nbsp;election. She said that "The president is clear-eyed, and he is staying in the race".

Biden too, in a call with campaign and party staffers said that he is going nowhere.

"I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win because when Democrats unite, we will always win. Just as we beat Donald Trump in 2020, we're going to beat him again in 2024," he said, as quoted by AFP.

Biden repeated the message in an emergency meeting with Democratic governors. The attendees later told AFP that they have pledged their continued support.

<h2>Amid toppling rumours Democrats back Biden</h2>

"As the president continued to tell us, and show us, that he was all in... we said that we would stand with him," said Maryland Governor Wes Moore to reporters speaking alongside Minnesota's Tim Walz and Kathy Hochul of New York.

Walz told the press that Biden was "fit to serve."

In a post on X, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who was also present at the meeting at the White House, said that "he is in it to win it and I support him."

<h2>Biden's abysmal debate performance</h2>

Biden, himself, has gracefully admitted that he performed poorly in the debate. In a radio interview recorded Wednesday with Wisconsin's Civic Media, he bluntly said: "I screwed up. I made a mistake. That's 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I've done in 3.5 years."

In another interview, this one with Pennsylvania's WURD radio on Thursday, he said "I had a bad debate."

The debate&nbsp;last week&nbsp;(Thursday, June 27)&nbsp;has shaken Biden's standing in the 2024 US election race. During the debate, an audience of more than 50 million people saw Biden's hoarse, halting delivery that once again led to questions and debate about his age and his ability to lead the US.

A recent survey by CBS News, shows that following his debate with Trump an increasing number of voters, including Democrats, do not believe that Biden should be running for president.

The survey shows that most voters said that Biden should not run given his campaigning and his effectiveness in office, along with his age. By contrast, Trump among Republicans finds a wide view that he should be running.

A CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that Trump has a 6 per cent lead on Biden — 49 per cent to the Democrat's 43 per cent. Not only that, as per the poll, most people would rather have Kamala Harris run for president.

'Clear-eyed' Joe: White House dismisses rumours of internal rumblings, says Biden is 'staying in the race'

A recent poll has discovered that the majority of voters in the United States believe that the Democrat Party has a better chance of holding on to the White House&nbsp;If they select another presidential candidate and&nbsp;replace&nbsp;Joe Biden.&nbsp;

Last week's debate between him and rival Donald Trump has shaken Biden's approval ratings and, as per the new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, voters nationwide favour Trump over him.

<h2>Trump 'trumps' Biden?</h2>

As per the poll, nationwide, Trump has a 6 per cent lead on Biden — 49 per cent to the Democrat's 43 per cent.

Voters were found to be more likely to support an alternative Democrat candidate. But which candidate?

The poll put&nbsp;Trump against three hypothetical Democrat candidates: Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg. It found that in a matchup against Trump, current Vice President Harris would lead with 47 per cent compared to Trump's 34 per cent.&nbsp;

Similarly, Newsom would lead Trump with 42 per cent against 36 per cent and Buttigieg would take the lead on the Republican with 42 per cent to his 35 per cent.

This goes to show that instead of Biden, the current voter sentiment would rather have other Democrats face off against Trump.

US Elections 2024: Poll reveals voters prefer Kamala Harris over Biden in matchup against Trump

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Tuesday (July 2) addressed concerns regarding President Joe Biden's performance during last week's debate, and suggested that both him and Republican rival Donald Trump should take a mental acuity test.

Later the same day, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that they have been transparent about Biden's health.

This comes as last week, Biden and Trump faced each other in the first presidential debate of US Elections 2024.

During the debate, Biden, 81, appeared to struggle with maintaining his train of thought and stumbled over his words multiple times. This renewed speculation about his mental capabilities, whether the aged leader is suffering from Alzheimer's and whether he should continue as the Democratic presidential nominee.

On the Republican side, Trump is also fielding similar questions about his mental capabilities.&nbsp;

The Biden vs Trump election fight has not just one but two senior citizens. On the one hand, it is 81-year-old Biden and on the other, 78-year-old Trump. Is either fit for the most important office in America? Let's take a look.

<h2>Nancy Pelosi on Biden, Trump and mental acuity tests</h2>

Pelosi said that it was valid for people to question whether Biden's difficulties on the debate stage were a onetime issue or indicative of a larger problem.

"I think it's a legitimate question to say: Is this an episode, or is this a condition? And so when people ask that question, it's completely legitimate — of both candidates," said Pelosi during an interview on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports".

"Both candidates owe whatever test you want to put them to, in terms of their mental acuity and their health — both of them," she added.

Pelosi emphasised her confidence in Biden's ability to "continue to be a great President of the United States," but said he needs for him to demonstrate his capabilities in unscripted settings. She recommended that Biden participate in multiple interviews with serious journalists to address any question and "just sit there and be Joe."

Pelosi also noted mixed reactions from elected Democrats about Biden's continuation in the race.&nbsp;

Later, when asked for further clarification, Pelosi's spokesperson, Ian Krager, said she "has full confidence in President Biden and looks forward to attending his inauguration on January 20, 2025."

<h2>How do Democrats feel about Biden's alleged health issues?</h2>

According to Pelosi, many Democrats express unwavering support and say "Joe's our guy. We love him; we trust him. He has vision, knowledge, judgment, and integrity. The other guy has none of the above."

However, others are not so happy about him being the presumptive Democratic Party presidential candidate. On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first Democrat to call for Biden to exit the race.&nbsp;

Talking to CNN on Tuesday (July 2) Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., another Democrat said that while it is Biden's decision, they must honestly acknowledge his performance issues. "We have to be honest with ourselves that it wasn't just a horrible night".

<h2>White House races to quash questions about Biden's capability</h2>

White House press secretary Jean-Pierre in a statement on Tuesday stressed that the administration has been transparent about Biden's health.&nbsp;

"We have put forward a thorough, transparent annual report on his health, so they have said it (a cognitive test) is not warranted, it is not necessary," she said.

When asked about whether the octogenarian underwent a neurological scan or saw a doctor after the debate, she said that people need to "take a step back," and that Biden just had a "bad night."

"We understand. We're not taking away from what you all saw or what the American people saw. We understand it was a bad night," said Jean-Pierre.

A day after the debate, Biden acknowledged during a campaign event on Friday that he has aged and doesn't debate as well as he used to but insisted that he remains capable of handling the job. This narrative was reiterated in a new campaign ad his re-election campaign team released on Monday (July 1).

The White House last released Biden's health information in February 2024 after the President underwent a routine physical exam.

Then, Jean-Pierre rejected suggestions that Biden should take a cognitive test and said that he "passes a cognitive test every day" as he "moves from one topic to another topic, understanding the granular level of these topics."

<h2>Isn't Trump just three years younger than Biden?</h2>

Former President Donald Trump, 78 — only three years younger than Biden — has also faced similar scrutiny regarding his mental fitness, particularly after confusing Pelosi with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley earlier this year. Some business executives who last month met with Trump described him as "remarkably meandering" and unable to "keep a straight thought".

A letter from his doctor that Trump released in November 2023 described his health as "excellent". However, the letter lacked specific details on vitals or test results.

Shares of Trump Media volatile following presidential debate

The recent felony conviction of former President Donald Trump has dramatically increased campaign coffers, propelling him over the cash reserves painstakingly built by President Joe Biden's campaign over months. There was an instant and huge inflow of grassroots donations immediately after the jury verdict on May 30 that pronounced Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump's campaign is purported to have raked in millions of dollars within hours.&nbsp;

By June 1, Trump's campaign purse swelled to $116.6 million, eclipsing Biden's $91.6 million, according to new campaign finance filings released on Thursday. Quite a comeback for Trump, who was behind by more than $40 million just two months ago.&nbsp;

The latest financial disclosure offers but a glimpse of the cruise navigation charting altogether the breadth of campaign finance in the ensuing months. It nonetheless reflects a formidable fundraising prowess reinforced by both major contributors and small-dollar donors-to the pockets of Mr. Trump. To this, an heir to a banking fortune, Timothy Mellon, gave $50 million to a super-PAC supporting Trump just one day after his conviction. This is one of the largest single donations ever recorded in campaign finance history.&nbsp;

Also, in support of Trump, Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire donated immediately after the verdict. In total, Trump and the Republican National Committee raised a huge $141 million haul in May, far outpacing the $81 million Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised.&nbsp;

Although the election law allows individuals no more than $3,300 contribution per candidate per election, Trump's campaign currently reaps a grassroots surge to reach such figures. Moreover, his campaign smartly reaches out to billionaire donors who have been able to secure hefty sums not only in formal campaign contributions but also in Trump-affiliated groups that can receive unlimited sums. Some of these contributions will only be disclosed in future finance reports.&nbsp;

While President Biden's campaign raked in a lot of money, more than those in April, it was still smaller than Trump's deep pockets. Biden's campaign has been judicious about where to spend, building campaign infrastructure that has essentially reduced cash-on-hand figure.&nbsp;

This has reshaped the entire financial landscape of the 2024 presidential campaign, with this robust support from both grassroots donors and wealthy donors in Trump's campaign, he shall be financially positioned to quite aggressively pursue its objectives while the Biden team continues to strategise and mobilise to tackle a highly competitive race.&nbsp;

Trump's fundraising outpouring puts him ahead of Biden

Former US president Donald Trump has promised to defund schools teaching things like gender ideology and critical race theory if he is reelected this coming November.

Speaking at Turning Point Action's "The People's Convention" in Michigan on Saturday (June 15), Trump said he would further cut funding to federal schools that require vaccines and masks.

<h2>Education, a top priority</h2>

"On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content onto the lives of our children," said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"And I will not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate or a mask mandate," he stated, adding that he will also "keep men out of women’s sports".

Trump underscored that education is a top priority in his campaign. He had previously revealed plans to "break up" the Department of Education, alter schools' curriculums, and allow school principals to be elected.

He promised support for the Second Amendment, which upholds an individual's right to own a gun.

Trump accused Democrats of forcing the "liberal indoctrination of America's youth" and vowed to reverse President Joe Biden's administration's expansion of Title IX, which prevents federally funded schools from restricting transgender students' access to bathrooms, locker rooms, and pronouns aligned with their identities.&nbsp;

He also said he would prohibit doctors from providing gender-affirming care and not allow federal agencies to promote "the concept of sex and gender transition at any age".

Previously, in January, he called the promotion of the LGBTQ agenda a form of "child abuse" and laid out a strategy to end what he termed "chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of our youth".

Trump promises to axe federal funding for schools with vaccine mandates and 'transgender insanity'

Former President Donald Trump questioned President Joe Biden's mental capacity during a speech at the Turning Point Action conference in Detroit on Saturday night, implying that Biden ought to take a cognitive test.

However, in the next sentence, Trump mispronounced the name of the doctor who gave him the test while he was president.
