US Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris's presidential campaign achieved a record-breaking fundraising milestone. On Sunday (August 25) Harris' campaign revealed that it has raised over $540 million in just over a month, "a record for any campaign in history."

The impressive fundraising total, as per AFP, includes contributions from the campaign itself, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and joint fundraising committees.

Notably, one-third of these donations came from first-time contributors, campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a memo.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a member of America's renowned political family, suspended his&nbsp;presidential campaign on Friday (Aug 22) and endorsed Donald Trump, adding a new layer of uncertainty to the race for the White House.

"I no longer believe that I have a realistic path of electoral victory," Kennedy,&nbsp;who was polling in the low single digits, said at a press conference in swing state Arizona.

The 70-year-old criticised the decision to appoint Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee without holding a primary contest.

Kennedy also listed several grievances against his former party, which he said had ultimately driven him to "throw my support to President Trump."

Notably, Kennedy failed to get on the ballot in even half of the 50 US states and his independent candidacy featured a number of bizarre twists -- including his claim to be suffering from a parasitic brain worm and a story about dumping a dead bear cub in Central Park.

In a joint statement endorsing Harris, five of Kennedy's siblings expressed their disapproval, saying, "Our brother Bobby's decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story."

Kennedy's withdrawal came a day after the surging Harris gave an electrifying speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, accepting the party's nomination and embarking on the final 10-week sprint to election day on November 5.

Donald Trump has rubbished reports that the late Queen Elizabeth II found him "very rude". The claims have been made in an upcoming biography of the Queen titled A Voyage Around the Queen,&nbsp;by Craig Brown. Talking to DailyMail, Trump slammed the writer of the book, calling him a "sleazebag" who has a book to sell.

Trump said that the Queen and him spent hours together and "had an unbelievable relationship".&nbsp;

Trump insisted&nbsp;that he was her favourite president.

"She said it to friends of mine that 'President Trump was my favourite president'," he said.

The book claims that the Queen hated the way Trump looked over her shoulder, which appeared to her as an attempt to search for someone more interesting. "It was totally false. I have no idea who the writer is, but it was really just the opposite," he said.

Other parts of the book mention how the Queen thought that Trump and his wife Melania likely had "some sort of arrangement" or else "why would she have remained married to him?"

Trump rubbished the claims and said, "I had a great relationship with the queen. She liked me, and I liked her."

Trump first met Queen Elizabeth in 2018 after assuming the presidential office. However, his visit was marred by protests in London at the time. A small, informal meeting over tea took place during the trip to avoid even bigger protests.&nbsp;

But Trump received all the hoopla expected around a president's visit in 2019, including a full state banquet. Trump made headlines for breaking royal protocol during this visit when he placed his hand on the Queen's back during a toast. He called her "a great, great woman" at the dinner.

Morning news brief: Biden delivers farewell speech at DNC; Trump may appoint Musk as adviser; and more

Less than a month after stepping up as the Democratic presidential candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining momentum in the race, moving ahead in polls and attracting large crowds at rallies across the United States. This week, the presumptive presidential candidate for the Democratic Party also landed on the cover of Time Magazine.&nbsp;

Kamala Harris' TIME cover has earned itself an unlikely admirer: Donald Trump, her political rival.

In his recent August 12 interview with Elon Musk on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Trump described Harris as a "beautiful woman".

So far, so good, right? What can be construed as problematic is that Trump did not stop there. The Republican widely known for his anti-immigrant and at times blatantly racist comments went on to compare Harris' beauty with his wife Melania Trump.

Just a few days back, Donald Trump questioned Kamala Harris's racial identity as a Black woman.

In a controversial interaction with African American journalists in Chicago on Jul&nbsp;31, former President Trump suggested that Kamala Harris had "turned Black" for political purposes.&nbsp;

He falsely claimed Kamala had initially identified as Indian, but "all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she became a Black person."

Now, speaking to Musk, he praised Harris' beauty, comparing her to his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump.&nbsp;

"She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live," Trump remarked, seemingly downplaying her racial identity by comparing her to a different standard of beauty.&nbsp;

"It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like a great first lady, Melania," he said.

His comment can be seen merely as superficial praise. However, Trump also said that, "She didn't look like Kamala," which can also be seen as an attempt to whitewash Kamala Harris' identity as a person of colour and a try to box her into the traditional, Eurocentric standards of beauty.

"But of course, she's a beautiful woman, so we'll leave it at that," added Trump.

Despite this compliment, Trump as usual didn't hold back on criticising Harris and her campaign.&nbsp;

He accused the media of giving Harris a "free ride" and not scrutinising her views adequately since she became the Democratic candidate. He also took a jab at Harris for avoiding interviews, a move that has been seized upon by Republicans as a sign of reluctance to engage with the media.

Trump's criticisms extended beyond Harris' media appearances. In the same conversation with Musk, he accused Harris of attempting to mimic his policies, specifically citing her recent pledge to eliminate tax on tips—a policy Trump had previously proposed. He further claimed that Harris was trying to position herself as "more Trump than Trump," a tactic he dismissed as insincere.

The interview, which was delayed due to a reported cyberattack on X, also saw Trump veer into discussions on global warming, nuclear proliferation, and even the idea of moving to Venezuela if he loses the upcoming election.

Donald Trump whitewashes Kamala Harris? Calls her ‘beautiful’ like wife Melania

The United Auto Workers (UAW) Union has taken formal action against former President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, filing complaints with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) over alleged attempts to intimidate workers. The union claims that both Trump and Musk made statements suggesting they would fire employees engaged in protected concerted activities, including striking.

The controversy stems from a two-hour conversation between Trump and Musk broadcast on the social media platform X on Monday. During the exchange, Trump praised Musk's cost-cutting abilities, saying, "You're the greatest cutter. I mean, I look at what you do. You walk in, you just say: 'You want to quit?' They go on strike - I won't mention the name of the company - but they go on strike. And you say: 'That's okay, you're all gone.'" Musk chuckled but did not directly respond to Trump's comments.

UAW President Shawn Fain strongly condemned the remarks, stating, "Both Trump and Musk want working class people to sit down and shut up, and they laugh about it openly. It's disgusting, illegal, and totally predictable from these two clowns." The union emphasised that under federal law, workers cannot be fired for going on strike, and threatening to do so violates the National Labor Relations Act.

The complaints come at a politically charged time, with the UAW having recently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election. The union is encouraging its nearly 400,000 members to support Harris over Trump, particularly in battleground states like Michigan that could prove decisive in November.

In response to the UAW's action, Musk took to social media to criticise Fain, alluding to past union presidents who were imprisoned for bribery and corruption. Meanwhile, Trump's campaign dismissed the complaint as a "frivolous lawsuit" and a "shameless political stunt," asserting that Trump's proposed policies, including a 100% tariff on Chinese imports, would strengthen the industry.

The NLRB, which has limited power to punish unlawful labour practices, could potentially order employers to cease and desist from such conduct and post notices informing workers of their rights. However, the process often takes years to resolve. Wilma Liebman, former NLRB chair under President Obama, suggested that the UAW's action serves both political and organising purposes beyond seeking specific remedies.

This is not the first time Musk has faced scrutiny from the NLRB. His companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, have been involved in multiple labour disputes. In March, a U.S. appeals court upheld an NLRB decision that Musk illegally threatened Tesla employees in a 2018 tweet regarding unionisation and stock options.

The UAW's complaints highlight ongoing tensions between labour groups and high-profile figures in business and politics. Sean O'Brien, president of the Teamsters union, characterised the notion of firing workers for organising and striking as "economic terrorism."

As the 2024 presidential race heats up, the role of union support remains crucial. In the 2020 election, 62% of Michigan households with a union member voted for Joe Biden, contributing to his victory in the state. The UAW's recent actions underscore the continued importance of labour issues in shaping political allegiances and electoral outcomes.

Morning news brief: Putin vows to expel enemy from Kursk; Trump, Musk interview hit by cyberattack, & more

In his first televised interview after stepping back from the 2024 presidential race, President Joe Biden has issued a stark warning about Republican candidate Donald Trump, labelling him "a genuine danger to American security."

<h2 bis_size="{&quot;x&quot;:8,&quot;y&quot;:85,&quot;w&quot;:723,&quot;h&quot;:26,&quot;abs_x&quot;:41,&quot;abs_y&quot;:1922}">'Mark my words…'</h2>

During an interview with CBS News, that aired on Sunday, Biden expressed deep concern over the potential consequences of a Trump victory. "Mark my words, if he wins… this election, watch what happens," Biden cautioned.

Biden emphasised the significance of the current global landscape, stating, "We're at an inflection point in world history. We really are… and democracy is the key."

With less than three months to go for the United States presidential&nbsp;election, Vice President Kamala Harris is ahead of&nbsp;former US President Donald&nbsp;Trump by four&nbsp;points in three key states, according to recent polling by&nbsp;The New York Times/Siena College.

According to the poll, which was released early on Saturday (Aug 10),&nbsp;Harris is now ahead of the former president in the US states of&nbsp;Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. In the hypothetical contest, Harris received 50 per cent&nbsp;of the vote against 46 per cent&nbsp;for Trump. &nbsp;among likely voters in all three states.

In the same swing states, Harris'&nbsp;numbers show a notable improvement over those of President Joe Biden.

Earlier this year, in two different NYT/Siena surveys conducted in Pennsylvania, Biden received 45 per cent&nbsp;of the vote compared to 48 per cent&nbsp;for Trump.

In April and early May polls, however, the incumbent president was ahead of his Republican opponent in Michigan (47 per cent to 46 per cent) but behind Trump in Wisconsin (46 per cent to 47 per cent).

Democrats have been very welcoming and supportive of Harris since she launched her presidential campaign last month after Biden&nbsp;dropped out from the 2024 presidential race. Earlier this week, she picked&nbsp;Minnesota Governor&nbsp;Tim Walz (D) as her running mate.

According to her team, 14,000 people showed up for her Tuesday (Aug 6)&nbsp;event in Philadelphia and another 15,000 showed up for her Wednesday (Aug 7)&nbsp;night rally in Detroit.

When asked if they were pleased with their party's nominee, the majority of poll participants responded positively.

When it came to party satisfaction, Democrats were more inclined than Republicans to indicate they were happy with their nominee (87 per cent&nbsp;to&nbsp;79 per cent). According to the survey, just 12 per cent&nbsp;of Democrats and 19 per cent&nbsp;of Republicans expressed dissatisfaction.

According to the study, almost 60 per cent&nbsp;of independent voters voiced satisfaction, while only 37 per cent&nbsp;disagreed.

Harris leads Trump by four points in three key US states: Poll

The United Auto Workers (UAW) president, Shawn Fain, has levelled a scathing attack on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's close ties with billionaire Elon Musk while actively campaigning for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

Fain's criticisms come at a time of heightened political tensions, with the upcoming November election looming large. The UAW leader's strategic decision to align with Harris and denounce Trump's association with Musk is a clear indication of the union's priorities and the importance it places on maintaining a strong relationship with the Democratic party.

During his campaign appearances, Fain did not mince his words when addressing Trump's relationship with Musk. "For months, Donald Trump has gone around trashing our state, trashing our industry, trashing the American autoworker, saying he was against electric vehicles. And then something happened," Fain said, citing reports that Musk had planned to commit around $45 million a month to a new pro-Trump super political-action committee.

Fain's remarks were a direct reference to the Wall Street Journal's report, which suggested that Musk was poised to provide substantial financial support to Trump's political endeavours. However, both Musk and Trump later refuted the claims, stating that the Tesla CEO had never pledged any such donation.

Nonetheless, Fain seized the opportunity to attack Trump, labelling him a "sellout" and accusing the former president of changing his tune on electric vehicles after Musk's alleged endorsement. "And all of a sudden, guess what, Trump changed his tune," Fain said, highlighting the perceived hypocrisy in Trump's stance on the electric vehicle industry.

Trump's history of opposition to electric car mandates and criticism of EV policies under the Biden administration has been well-documented. However, in a recent rally, the former president claimed to be "for electric cars," attributing his newfound support to Musk's endorsement. "I'm for electric cars. I have to be, because Elon endorsed me very strongly. So I have no choice," Trump stated, though he added that he still supports other types of vehicles, including gas-powered and hybrid cars.

Fain's scathing critique of Trump's relationship with Musk is a strategic move by the UAW to align itself with the Democratic party and, more specifically, Harris, who recently became the Democratic presidential candidate after Biden stepped aside. The union's endorsement of Harris is a clear indication of its desire to maintain a strong partnership with the Democratic administration, which it believes will be more favourable to the interests of autoworkers.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) president, Shawn Fain, has levelled a scathing attack on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's close ties with billionaire Elon Musk while actively campaigning for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump says Zuckerberg apologised and pledged not to support democrats

US Vice President Kamala Harris officially secured the Democratic Party's presidential nomination on Friday, solidifying her remarkable ascent to become the party's standard-bearer in the upcoming November showdown against Republican Donald Trump.&nbsp;

“I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States," Kamala Harris, said on a phone-in to a party celebration after securing enough votes by the second day of the marathon vote.

Notably, Kamala Harris was the only candidate on the ballot for a 5-day electronic vote of around 4,000 party meeting delegates. She will be officially crowned at a Chicago convention later this month.

In the two weeks since US President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid; Kamala Harris has gained full control of the party.

No other Democrats stepped forward to challenge her rise to the top of the ticket, making her confirmation as the first Black and South Asian woman to secure a major party's nomination a formality.

It is worth mentioning here, Trump's White House bid was thrown into chaos on July 21 when 81-year-old Joe Biden, withdrew his candidacy, backing Kamala Harris as the Democrat&nbsp;nominee for November elections.

Harris has already smashed fundraising records, packed arenas and wiped out Trump's polling leads over Biden, creating momentum that she hopes she can ride through the convention to the White House.

Harris is set to make her first public appearance with her running mate on Tuesday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—a crucial swing state. Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro, among a handful of candidates being vetted to potentially join the Kamala Harris ticket, will also be present.

After Philadelphia, Harris and her vice presidential pick will travel to six other locations including western Wisconsin, Detroit and Las Vegas, the campaign said.&nbsp;

Kamala Harris is Democratic nominee for US president: 'I am honoured'

Former President Donald Trump’s social media fortune is decreasing.

The value of Trump’s stake in Truth Social (Owned by Trump) has decreased by $900 million since Vice President Kamala Harris entered the race for the White House.&nbsp;

Trump Media &amp; Technology Group’s share price has fallen by about 23% since then, with another sharp drop on Thursday (Aug 1) amid a broader market selloff.

Trump’s stake in the conservative social media company was just over $4 billion as of July 19, the final trading day before President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed Harris. It has since fallen to approximately $3.1 billion.

Notably, the selloff comes as national and battleground polls show a tight fight between Trump and Harris.

In June, Trump Media’s share price popped momentarily following Biden’s disastrous debate performance. The stock spiked again last month after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

Interestingly, at the same time, Trump’s Truth Social struggles to gain traction in the social media world.

According to Comscore data analysed by TheRighting, in the month of June, Truth Social’s unique visitors came down by 38% year-over-year, marking the platform’s third straight month of declines.

Trump Media’s share price has experienced significant turbulence since going public in late March.&nbsp;

Experts have characterised Trump Media as a meme stock, trading on hype and momentum rather than on fundamentals.

It may be noted here, Trump is the leading figure in the company, owning 114.75 million shares, serving as its chairman and the most popular user on Truth Social.&nbsp;

Trump’s net worth is estimated at $5.9 billion by Bloomberg. Still after the recent selloff, Trump Media is valued at $5.1 billion.

Trump’s net worth has dropped by $900m since Kamala Harris entered the race

Former President Donald Trump reiterated on Wednesday (July 31) that he would pardon January 6 rioters if he wins the November election.

"Oh, absolutely, I would. If they're innocent, I would pardon them," Trump said during a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists.&nbsp;

"They were convicted by a very tough system," Trump added.

Notably, more than 1,400 people have been charged in connection with the attack on Jan. 6, 2021, and prosecutors have secured over 1,000 convictions on charges ranging from unlawful parading to seditious conspiracy. Hundreds of cases remain pending, with more arrests expected before the five-year statute of limitations expires in early 2026.&nbsp;

However, all January 6 cases could theoretically be concluded if Trump wins and his appointees take control of the Justice Department.

The former president has repeatedly referred to Jan. 6 rioters as warriors, amazing patriots," political prisoners and "hostages."&nbsp;

Senior US District Judge Royce Lamberth, appointed by former President Ronald Reagan and overseeing numerous Capitol attack trials, has expressed shock at the "preposterous" rhetoric Republicans often use regarding January 6 rioters who have been convicted.&nbsp;

“In my thirty-seven years on the bench, I cannot remember a time when such meritless justifications of criminal activity have gone mainstream," Lamberth wrote this year.

Although Jan. 6 defendants were caught on camera brandishing or using firearms, stun guns, flagpoles, fire extinguishers, bike racks, batons, a metal whip, office furniture, pepper spray, bear spray, a tomahawk ax, a hatchet, a hockey stick, knuckle gloves, a baseball bat, a massive “Trump” billboard, “Trump” flags, a pitchfork, pieces of lumber, crutches and even an explosive device during the brutal attack.

When asked directly whether he would pardon January 6 rioters who were seen on camera assaulting officers with flagpoles and dragging them down the stairs of the Capitol, Trump did not answer. Instead, he pivoted to discussing the officer who shot and killed a January 6 rioter.

If they're innocent, I would pardon them," Trump said during a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists. "They were convicted by a very tough system," Trump added. Notably, more than 1,400 people have been charged in connection with the attack on Jan. 6, 2021, and prosecutors have secured over 1,000 convictions on charges ranging from unlawful parading to seditious conspiracy. Hundreds of cases remain pending, with more arrests expected before the five-year statute of limitations expires in early 2026. The former president has repeatedly referred to Jan. 6 rioters as warriors, amazing patriots," political prisoners and "hostages." Senior US District Judge Royce Lamberth, appointed by former President Ronald Reagan and overseeing numerous Capitol attack trials, has expressed shock at the "preposterous" rhetoric Republicans often use regarding January 6 rioters who have been convicted. “In my thirty-seven years on the bench, I cannot remember a time when such meritless justifications of criminal activity have gone mainstream," Lamberth wrote this year. When asked directly whether he would pardon January 6 rioters who were seen on camera assaulting officers with flagpoles and dragging them down the stairs of the Capitol, Trump did not answer. Instead, he pivoted to discussing the officer who shot and killed a January 6 rioter. (With inputs from agencies)

Kamala Harris dares Donald Trump to debate: 'Say it to my face!'

Former United States President and Republican presidential candidate&nbsp;Donald Trump reiterated remarks made on Friday (Jul 26) and suggested that Christians would never need to vote again if he wins the presidency in November.&nbsp;

However, the former president denied any intention to stay in office beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms during an interview with Fox News on Monday (Jul&nbsp;29).

The recent controversy began with Trump's comments on Friday, where he told the crowd, "Get out and vote, just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what? It will be fixed, it will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."&nbsp;

The statement sparked outrage among Democrats who labelled it as authoritarian and anti-democratic.

But in a Monday (July 29) interview with Fox News, Trump attempted to clarify his comments while attempting to throw the spotlight on low voter turnout from the&nbsp;Christian community.

"I said, vote for me, you’re not going to have to do it ever again. It’s true," he said. "Because we have to get the vote out. Christians are not known as a big voting group. They don’t vote. And I’m explaining that to them. You never vote. This time, vote. I’ll straighten out the country, you won’t have to vote anymore. I won’t need your vote."

He then repeated his statement from Friday once more, saying his message had been: "Don’t worry about the future. You have to vote on Nov. 5. After that, you don’t have to worry about voting anymore. I don’t care, because we’re going to fix it. The country will be fixed and we won’t even need your vote anymore, because frankly we will have such love, if you don’t want to vote anymore, that’s OK."

When the host Laura Ingraham pointed out that Democrats interpreted his remarks as suggesting the end of future elections, the former president&nbsp;responded by saying that&nbsp;he was unaware of such interpretations.&nbsp;

He told Ingraham that he would leave office after four years if reelected, stating, “Of course. By the way … I did last time.”

President Donald...Duck?: Elon Musk claims Google biased against Trump, interfering in US Elections

The Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris presidential race is heating up. On Saturday, the two political rivals traded barbs from afar, calling each other names. While Harris called Donald Trump "just plain weird," Trump in exchange painted her as an "evil," and "unhinged" person.

This war of words marked a tumultuous week in the 2024 presidential race.

<h2>'He said- she said'</h2>

Harris' comments, as per Reuters, came just a few days after she ascended to the top of the presidential nominee list after being backed by US President Joe Biden.

During a private fundraiser headlined by singer-songwriter James Taylor, Harris criticised Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance's rhetoric was "just plain weird."&nbsp;

Harris called herself an "underdog," and said, "We are the underdogs in this race, but this is a people-powered campaign."

"Donald Trump has been resorting to some wild lies about my record. And some of what he and his running mate are saying, well, it's just plain weird," she said.

The phrase 'weird' as per the report represents a new Democratic strategy, with the Harris campaign portraying Trump as "old and quite weird."

At the fundraiser, Harris, 59, contrasted her prosecutorial background with Trump's criminal record, framing her campaign as forward-looking in contrast to what she termed 'felon' Trump's desire to return the country to a "dark past."

Hours later, Trump retaliated at a rally in St. Cloud, Minnesota, accusing Harris of wanting to "destroy the country" and attacking her stance on public safety and immigration. Trump, 78, described Harris as "even worse" than Biden, declaring that her presidency would end the American dream.

"If a crazy liberal like Kamala Harris gets in, the American dream is dead," Trump said.

Trump's speech was filled with grievances and baseless claims about election fraud.

Harris' candidacy has revitalised the Democratic campaign, which had struggled with doubts about Biden's viability.

Since Biden's exit, Harris has raised over $100 million, including $1.4 million at Saturday's fundraiser attended by around 800 supporters.&nbsp;

Former United States President Donald Trump has responded after the FBI addressed speculation that he was not shot during his assassination bid at a rally in Pennsylvania, earlier this month. In a statement released on Friday, the FBI confirmed, "What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject's rifle." Trump reacted to the statement on Truth Social, stating, "I assume that's the best apology that we'll get from Director (Christopher) Wray, but it is fully accepted!" The former president's remarks came after some law enforcement officials, including the FBI chief, had expressed doubts about whether Trump was hit by a bullet in the attack, which resulted in an ear injury. Earlier on Friday, Jackson said Trump was hit by a bullet in his right ear. "There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet," he asserted. "FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn't sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet. It was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. Morning news brief: FBI confirms Trump hit by bullet; Kamala Harris announces candidacy; and more

Former US president Donald Trump was certainly hit by an assassin's bullet or a piece of one, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Friday (July 26).

"What struck former President Donald Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject's rifle," the FBI said in a statement.

It may be recalled here, Trump's right ear was covered in blood on July 13 after he was injured during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/trump-blasts-fbi-director-wray-demands-resignation-over-biden-health-cover-up-744206" target="_blank">Also read |&nbsp;Trump goes after FBI Director Wray, demands his resignation over Biden health cover-up</a>

The FBI considered the assault -- in which a gunman fired eight bullets from outside the event's security perimeter -- an ‘assassination attempt’.

However, FBI chief Christopher Wray earlier told US lawmakers that there was some doubt as to "whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that, you know, that hit his ear."&nbsp;

"With respect to former president Trump, there’s some question about whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear," Wray told Representative Jim Jordan during the testimony.&nbsp;

“As I sit here right now, I don’t know whether that bullet… in addition to causing the grazing, could have landed somewhere else," he added.

Following the&nbsp;statement from the FBI—Trump has long alleged is part of a "deep state" conspiring against him—the Republican posted on his Truth Social platform, "I assume that's the best apology that we'll get from Director Wray, but it is fully accepted!"

Taking a further dig&nbsp;at Wray Trump wrote, “FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘uneventful’ – Wrong!”.

However, Trump also posted a letter from his former White House doctor saying the wound was almost certainly due to a bullet.

Notably, two rally attendees were seriously wounded in the attack, and a 50-year-old Pennsylvania firefighter was shot dead. The gunman was killed by a US Secret Service sniper immediately after the incident.

Since the shooting, Trump has made the attack a significant part of his campaign pitches, telling a crowd in Michigan that he "took a bullet for democracy."

Trump to hold another rally at site of assassination attempt

Donald Trump said on Friday he will return to the Pennsylvania town where he survived an assassination attempt.

"I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally," former President Trump wrote on his Truth Social site, without providing details on when or where the rally would take place.

It may be recalled here, Trump's right ear was covered in blood on July 13 after he was injured during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Also read | Trump goes after FBI Director Wray, demands his resignation over Biden health cover-up The FBI considered the assault -- in which a gunman fired eight bullets from outside the event's security perimeter -- an ‘assassination attempt’. However, FBI chief Christopher Wray earlier told US lawmakers that there was some doubt as to "whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that, you know, that hit his ear." "With respect to former president Trump, there’s some question about whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear," Wray told Representative Jim Jordan during the testimony. “As I sit here right now, I don’t know whether that bullet… in addition to causing the grazing, could have landed somewhere else," he added. Following the statement from the FBI—Trump has long alleged is part of a "deep state" conspiring against him—the Republican posted on his Truth Social platform, "I assume that's the best apology that we'll get from Director Wray, but it is fully accepted!" Also read: Trump blasts FBI director for questioning if he was struck by bullet during assassination bid Taking a further dig at Wray Trump wrote, “FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘uneventful’ – Wrong!”. However, Trump also posted a letter from his former White House doctor saying the wound was almost certainly due to a bullet. × Notably, two rally attendees were seriously wounded in the attack, and a 50-year-old Pennsylvania firefighter was shot dead. The gunman was killed by a US Secret Service sniper immediately after the incident. Since the shooting, Trump has made the attack a significant part of his campaign pitches, telling a crowd in Michigan that he "took a bullet for democracy." Trump to hold another rally at site of assassination attempt Donald Trump said on Friday he will return to the Pennsylvania town where he survived an assassination attempt. "I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally," former President Trump wrote on his Truth Social site, without providing details on when or where the rally would take place. Morning news brief: Trump slams Harris; Papua New Guinea attacks kill 26; and more

Donald Trump, on Wednesday (July 25) launched a volley of attacks against US Vice President Kamala Harris in his first rally since she became the de facto Democratic Party nominee for November's election.

Calling her a "radical left lunatic" Trump, speaking at the rally in North Carolina, claimed that the presumptive nominee for the Democratic presidential ticket favours the "execution" of babies.

"If Kamala Harris gets in, she would be the most radical, far left extremist ever to occupy the White House times ten. There's never been a lunatic like this in the White House, and we've had some bad ones."

<h2>Baby 'execution,' 'lunatic' and more: Trump targets Harris</h2>

Describing Kamala Harris as the "ultra liberal driving force behind every single Biden catastrophe," Trump slammed her for her pro-abortion stance.

He claimed that Harris wanted "abortions in the eighth and ninth month of pregnancy," as well as "right up until birth and even after birth."

Trump described this as "The execution of a baby."

"She is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country," and&nbsp;"We're not going to let that happen," he told the crowd.

Accusing her of covering up Joe Biden's "mental unfitness," he said that Democratic Party bosses were behind the incumbent US President's decision to step down from the election race.

"So now they bring in this one who's worse than him. She's worse than him because he's a fake liberal. You know, he wasn't that liberal. He was fake. She's a real liberal. She really is a real liberal. She's much worse than him."

<h2>'Lyin Kamala'</h2>

True to his form, Trump gave his political rival a new nickname. 78-year-old Donald Trump, who has previously called Biden "Sleepy Joe," gave Harris the nickname "Lyin Kamala".

US President Joe Biden, in his first public address after dropping out of the 2024 US election, addressed the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday (July 25) and said&nbsp;he's passing the&nbsp;torch to the new generation.

Reiterating his support for 'tough' and 'capable'&nbsp;Kamala Harris as the new Democratic Party Presidential candidate nominee, Biden said, "The Republic is in your hands".

"She's experienced, she's tough, she's capable. She's been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country. Now, the choice is up to you, the American people," he said.

<h2>Biden tells America why he quit the election race</h2>

Speaking to the&nbsp;American public, Biden said he quit the election race to "unite his party".

Addressing the popular debate around his age, the 81-year-old leader said,&nbsp;"There is a time and a place for long years of experience in public life. There's also a time and a place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices."

Biden said that the "defence of democracy, which is at stake, is more important than any title."

"I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation."

Touting the achievements of his term, Joe Biden said that he is the first US president who can say that America is presently not at war anywhere.

<h2>Why was the speech significant?</h2>

The July 25 speech was significant for two reasons:

Number one - This was possibly the last Oval Office speech of&nbsp;Joe Biden, the 46th and current President of the United States.

Number two - Joe Biden's first public speech since&nbsp;announcing his withdrawal from the presidential elections, used the Oval Office of the White House, a powerfully symbolic setting used by US presidents for moments of grave historical importance

Before this, President Joe Biden used the Oval Office thrice: in October 2023, to seek additional funding for war-torn Ukraine;&nbsp;in June 2023, wrapping up the debt ceiling drama that had Washington and the financial markets on tenterhooks for weeks, and recently on Sunday (Jul 14) to ask Americans to cool down after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.&nbsp;

<h2>Did Biden mention Trump?</h2>

While Biden did not mention Republican presidential nominee and political rival Donald Trump by name, he did refer to him as a 'tyrant' in a thinly veiled reference.

Calling&nbsp;the United States the "most powerful idea," in world history, the incumbent US president&nbsp;in his televised speech from the Oval Office said&nbsp;"America's an idea, an idea stronger than any army, bigger than any ocean, more powerful than any dictator or tyrant."

He warned the American public that&nbsp;democracy is at stake in the November election. Rejecting&nbsp;accusations that he will be a lame duck for the rest of his one-term presidency, he said,&nbsp;"Over the next six months I will be focused on doing my job as president,"&nbsp;adding that he would keep trying to lower costs for families and defend freedoms including the right to abortion.

Joe Biden's Oval Office address: Endorses Kamala Harris, tells Americans 'Republic is in your hands'

Donald Trump's lawyers on Monday (July 22) asked a New York appeals court to throw out the $454 million judgment against the Republican presidential nominee for US Elections 2024. They argue that the monetary policy was unconstitutional and that most of the case&nbsp;should be barred because of the time passed since the alleged conduct.

"The award of $464 million in a case with no victims, no proven injuries, and no losses is not remotely defensible," wrote Trump's lawyers. &nbsp;

They argued that "the 'actual harm inflicted' is nil," and thus.&nbsp;"any punitive award would result in a ratio that is virtually infinite. The award of $464 million in a case with no victims, no proven injuries, and no losses is not remotely defensible."

Next month, the New York attorney general's office will present their opposition papers. As early as September, the appeals court could take up the case.

His lawyers argue that the judge made an error in not throwing out most of the case after the appeals court ruled last year, before the civil trial, that certain behaviour was outside the legal time limit.

According to them, Trump should have been dismissed as a defendant and that if the statute of limitations was enforced, roughly $350 million of the judgment would be wiped out. Previously, before the trial, a state appeal had dismissed Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump as a co-defendant in the case.

The loans for the Old Post Office building and the 40 Wall Street building were the only timely claims mentioned in the attorney general's complaint, they wrote.

"Applying the correct statute of limitations eliminates $350,980,057 of the $464,576,229 judgment for Appellants bound by the Tolling Agreement, and it eliminates all of the judgment for those not bound by the Tolling Agreement, including the Trust and the individual Appellant," they contend.

However, as per Enrogon&nbsp;ruling from before the trial, even&nbsp;if the loans were closed before the 2014 statute of limitations, fraudulent financial statements that were subsequently issued count as separate fraudulent acts.
