With the US presidential election heading into the home stretch, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will likely be hoping for Donald Trump to return to the White House.

Trump's last time in office was good for Netanyahu, and in the lead-up to the November 5 vote, the former president has sent mixed messages on his Middle East policy.

His remarks have ranged from encouraging Netanyahu to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities -- which Israel refrained from in its strikes Saturday -- to criticising the Israeli leader, saying "the October 7 attack would never have happened if I was president" and that he will pressure Israel to end the wars.

Yet it is these unclear policies, combined with Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan, that analysts say Netanyahu is hoping for.

An isolationist, Trump as a Republican president might give Netanyahu more freedom to navigate the conflicts that continue to rage in Gaza and Lebanon.

"One of Netanyahu's milestones is the US election. He is praying for a Trump victory, which he thinks will give him a lot of freedom of movement, which will let him do what he aspires," Gidon Rahat, political science professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, told AFP.

Aviv Bushinsky, a political commentator and Netanyahu's former chief of staff, similarly said: "His experience with Republicans is very good... unlike with the Democrats who are much tougher on him."

In 17 years as prime minister, Netanyahu has only served opposite one Republican leader, Trump.

During his presidency, Trump went ahead with several moves that boosted Netanyahu's domestic standing while upending some long-standing US policies on Israel, its conflict with the Palestinians and the wider region.

The Republican president moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, which Israel claims as its undivided capital, recognised Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, and oversaw the normalisation of ties between three Arab states and Israel.

Trump also withdrew from a landmark nuclear deal with Israel's arch-foe Iran and reimposed tough economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

President Joe Biden, meanwhile, has long had a frosty relationship with Netanyahu despite insisting on his "ironclad support" for Israel.

Unlike Trump, Biden had warned Netanyahu against striking Iran's oil production and nuclear facilities.

Trump and Netanyahu also enjoy a close personal relationship, with the former US president boasting this week of having had frequent phone calls with the Israeli premier.

"We have a very good relationship," Trump said at a rally in Georgia. "We're going to work with them very closely."

US Elections: Will Trump's return to power benefit Netanyahu?

In less than 10 days, the United States of America will elect its next president. The vital race has the Democratic presidential candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris, pitched against Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump.

Already, early voting has begun, and the final vote is scheduled for Nov 5.

The United States allows voters multiple ways to vote. But, is proxy voting one of them? Let's find out.

"I took them on, and I won," said the Democratic presidential election nominee.

"In 10 days, it's Donald Trump's turn," said Harris to loud cheers.

"Because of Trump and what he did with the Supreme Court, we are looking at a health care crisis in America," she told reporters.

'US is like garbage can for world', says Donald Trump in latest attack on migrants

Over 50 per cent of the living Noble Prize winners of the US have called the economic plan of the Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris "vastly superior."

A letter signed by 23 Noble prize-winning economists said Harris' agenda is far better than what is laid by the Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The letter obtained by CNN read, "While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we believe that, overall, Harris’ economic agenda will improve our nation’s health, investment, sustainability, resilience, employment opportunities, and fairness and be vastly superior to the counterproductive economic agenda of Donald Trump.”

The letter comes just two weeks before the US elections and could serve in favour of Harris as one thing that US voters ranked as the most important issue in the country was the economy.

According to the report by CNN, multiple surveys revealed that voters struggle with inflation in the country.

The letter marks the second such incident where Noble Prize-winners signed a letter talking about the US presidential election 2024.

In June, 15 Nobel winners signed a letter highlighting that a second Trump term will have a "destabilising effect" on America's economy.

That time, the former US president criticised the letter and called all the signatories "worthless out of touch."

The new letter called Trump's tariff and tax policies "inflationary" and claimed that there are chances they will balloon the federal deficit (total national debt of the US).

Despite all the latest warnings, the Republican remains sturdy on his tariff plans as in an interview at the Economic Club of Chicago, he said his tariff plans would “have a massive effect, a positive effect.”

“The most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff. It’s my favourite word,” Trump added.

A California journalist at the Los Angeles Times (LA Times) Mariel Garza resigned from the paper after its owner blocked the endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Garza, who has worked with the paper's editorial department for over a decade, wrote in her resignation letter saying she has been "struggling with the feelings about the implications" of the department's silence on the matter.

"I told myself that presidential endorsements don't really matter; that California was not ever going to vote for Trump; that no one would even notice," Garza wrote further.

She further talked about the Democratic nominee Donald Trump saying the paper has written so many 'Trump is unfit' editorials that it was assumed it was endorsing Kamala Harris.

"But the reality hit me like cold water when the news rippled out about the decision not to endorse," she added further.

"Of course, it matters that the largest newspaper in the state, one of the largest in the nation, still declined to endorse in a race this important. And it matters that we won't even be straight with people about it."

Garza also claimed that the decision of not endorsing Harris is "hypocritical," "sexist," and "racist" as well.

"It makes us look craven and hypocritical, maybe even a bit sexist and racist. How could we spend eight years railing against Trump and the danger his leadership poses to the country and then fail to endorse the perfectly decent challenger," she wrote in her resignation.

Also read | Trudeau breaks English: 'Brokenist' Canadian PM gets mocked in Parliament, internet for made-up word She further talked about the Democratic nominee Donald Trump saying the paper has written so many 'Trump is unfit' editorials that it was assumed it was endorsing Kamala Harris. "But the reality hit me like cold water when the news rippled out about the decision not to endorse," she added further. "Of course, it matters that the largest newspaper in the state, one of the largest in the nation, still declined to endorse in a race this important. And it matters that we won't even be straight with people about it." Garza also claimed that the decision of not endorsing Harris is "hypocritical," "sexist," and "racist" as well. "It makes us look craven and hypocritical, maybe even a bit sexist and racist. How could we spend eight years railing against Trump and the danger his leadership poses to the country and then fail to endorse the perfectly decent challenger," she wrote in her resignation. In an apparent response to Garza's claims after her resignation, the paper's owner, Patrick Soon-Shiong, responded via an X post saying the editorial board was given the "opportunity to draft a factual analysis of all the positive and negative policies by each candidate during their tenures at the White House." Election security in focus: Protecting the vote

Donald Trump's campaign has lodged a formal complaint against the UK's Labour Party, accusing it of meddling in the upcoming US presidential election. The complaint, filed with the Federal Election Commission, claims that the British party has been recruiting members to campaign on behalf of Trump's political rival, Democratic Party presidential nominee, US Vice-President Kamala Harris, in key battleground states.

Blatant foreign interference

In a letter rife with historical references, including the American Revolution, Trump's legal team requested an immediate investigation into "blatant foreign interference".

It stated, "When representatives of the British government previously sought to go door-to-door in America, it did not end well for them."

The letter noted the recent 243rd anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown and said "This past week marked the 243 anniversary of the surrender of British forces at the Battle of Yorktown, a military victory that ensured that the United States would be politically independent of Great Britian." Here, Trump's campaign misspelt Britain, whether by mistake or on purpose, it is not known.

The Trump campaign's grievance centres around reports that Labour Party volunteers have been campaigning for Harris. According to the Guardian, these volunteers are campaigning on their own, not in an official capacity.

However, the letter demands an investigation into what it claims are "apparent illegal foreign national contributions made by the Labour Party of the United Kingdom," to Harris's campaign.

It then goes on to refer to a "volunteer exemption" in US election law that allows foreign nationals to volunteer but prohibits compensation of any type.

"They (foreign nationals) may not be compensated, foreign nationals may not make expenditures, and they may not direct or control activities of US campaigns," states the letter.

The complaint cites a since-deleted LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, head of operations at the Labour Party, in which she reportedly mentioned that 100 current and former party members were heading to the US to campaign.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk, a vocal Trump supporter, said "This is illegal" before deleting his post after being corrected by a community note.

Trump files complaint against UK Labour Party, claims 'blatant foreign interference' in 2024 US Elections

"Hands off my porn," proclaims the latest election campaign in the United States, urging voters to refrain from voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

While Trump infamously made headlines for his connection to Stormy Daniels, a porn star, the American adult industry believes that if re-elected, he would be the reason for the industry's shutdown. To save their livelihoods, they've launched the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign, spending $200,000 so far on ads.

#HandsOffMyPorn campaign

Thanks to this campaign, people watching porn in America are now seeing ads asking them to vote on Nov 5, to "keep doing this".

Appearing before the pornographic content, porn stars tell the viewer: "Hey, I know you're busy. I know you're doing something. Hold on. If you want to keep doing this, you really need to vote on November 5... Enjoy!"

The campaign, as per AFP, is mainly targeted at men, a demographic in which Trump enjoys a strong lead, all thanks to his machismo-drenched pitch.

According to the Institute for Family Studies, men are four times more likely than women to watch porn. These "public service announcements" are being played for viewers in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia.

Does Trump want to kill the porn industry?

While Trump has tried to distance himself from the hard-right Republican manifesto, dozens of his allies and dozens of his former administration members co-wrote the exhaustive 900-page document.

Holly Randall, 26-year-old former pornstar, now adult content producer, said: "I've seen these attacks come and go.... Project 2025, is the most explicit iteration of wanting to completely outlaw porn."

The industry veteran warned that a ban on the porn industry could be a "lightning rod" for wider issues such as trans rights, same-sex marriage and even reproductive rights.

"It's always the easiest thing to attack, because it represents people's uncertainty and fear about the changing morals of sexuality and of gender fluidity," she remarked.

Randall acknowledged that Trump "doesn't actually care whether or not it's outlawed," but said, "It's the people around him, like (Trump running mate) J.D. Vance, these ultra-right-wing conservatives, who want to ban porn."

Another porn star Siouxsie Q, while talking to AFP, expressed worry about being arrested. "Absolutely, I am worried about imprisonment," she said.

No. Siouxsie told AFP that the Democratic Party nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, was not in any way affiliated with the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign. However, the porn star cheekily added, "Hopefully, secretly, she likes what we're doing."

Project 2025, is the most explicit iteration of wanting to completely outlaw porn." The industry veteran warned that a ban on the porn industry could be a "lightning rod" for wider issues such as trans rights, same-sex marriage and even reproductive rights. Vance, these ultra-right-wing conservatives, who want to ban porn." Another porn star Siouxsie Q, while talking to AFP, expressed worry about being arrested. "Absolutely, I am worried about imprisonment," she said. Is Kamala Harris behind the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign? No. Siouxsie told AFP that the Democratic Party nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, was not in any way affiliated with the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign. However, the porn star cheekily added, "Hopefully, secretly, she likes what we're doing." (With inputs from agencies)

Donald Trump calls Kamala Harris ‘a low IQ individual’ and Tim Walz ‘the stupidest man'

A judge in Michigan on Monday rejected an effort by the Republican Party to block some Americans who are living overseas from voting in the battleground state.

The Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit earlier this month arguing that election laws in the state improperly allowed US citizens living abroad who had never lived in Michigan - but whose relatives had - to vote there.

Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel said in a ruling that the language being challenged by Republicans was consistent with federal and state law.

"There is no ground to invalidate it," Patel wrote.

A U.S. citizen who never lived in the US but who has a parent, legal guardian or spouse who last lived in Michigan is eligible to vote in the state so as long as the citizen has not registered or voted in another state, according to Michigan's secretary of state election officials manual.

At the time the lawsuit was filed, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said citizens living in Michigan should not have "their votes cancelled by those who've never lived in the state."

The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling.

Some 2.9 million US citizens living abroad were eligible to vote in 2020, though fewer than 8% of them did, according to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, a government entity that helps military members and other US citizens living abroad with election logistics.

US Elections: Michigan judge rejects GOP bid to block overseas voters in key battleground state

Former US President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a rally in North Carolina on Monday (Oct 21) told his audience that the election choice is between incompetence and greatness.

Earlier the same day, Trump, in North Carolina, while surveying damage from Hurricane Helene, criticised the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for its response, accusing it of mishandling funds and resources.

A key theme of Trump's rally was border security. He lambasted the Biden administration for what he described as a complete failure to handle immigration.

Singling out his political rival Vice President Kamala Harris for her role, Trump said, "Biden put this total stupid person in charge of our border… She said, 'Keep those borders open. Let everybody come in'."

He vowed that if elected on November 5, he would end what he called a "migrant invasion" and use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 "to target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American soil."

With the US Elections coming into their final stage, polls could have more salience now. Election Day is November 5 and both parties are trying to fight until the last moment. With the star campaigners rallying for their favourite contender. Elon Musk has become a constant presence in the ongoing election race. Be it on social media or at a rally, Musk is making sure to have an uninterrupted involvement until the elections are over. Musk has been seen attacking Kamala Harris with AI generated images on X and wearing a custom made black Maga hat on a rally for Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

X Owner has emerged as a unique influence on the campaign, actively backing Donald Trump, now more than ever. He has become a mega contributor for Trump’s campaigns, informal policy advisor, media influence and a one stop shop for online disinformation. On 15th Oct, the Federal Election Commission filings unveiled that Tesla owner donated $75m in the last three months towards Pro Trump Pac. Musk: A mega contributor to Trump and the US election landscape

The US Presidential elections are approaching and candidates Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and their running mates Tim Walz and JD Vance are busy trading barbs at each other. These often include discussions on LGBTQIA+ issues like transgender health care, abortion rights, etc.

Here’s a guide to help you understand what Harris, Trump and their parties have said about queer rights in the country.

Rise Of The Queer Voter

Amidst the many issues facing the American voter, LGBTQIA+ or queer rights is a prominent one. According to a poll by Gallup, 7.6 per cent of all adult Americans identify as queer. Thus, they form a significant voting bloc and are likely to shape national politics in the future.

Donald Trump, JD Vance and the Republican Party

Former President Donald Trump has long been at odds with the queer community. He has been very vocal about transgender issues and vowed to keep ‘men out of women's sports.’

Billionaires like Elon Musk supported Trump’s view on ‘men being in women's sports’ when the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s gender saga broke out at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Trump has also vowed to restore the ban on openly transgender people serving in the military.

The Trump 1.0 administration imposed the ban in 2017 but later allowed serving transgender persons to continue working.

He has been staunchly against gender-affirming care for minors, which includes surgeries and other such procedures to help a person align with their true gender identity, calling it ‘mutilation.’ It is to be noted that sex change operations on minors need parental consent.

JD Vance’s Trans Friend

Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s history with LGBTQIA+ issues is more convoluted.

According to a New York Times report, Vance was once a ‘close friend’ of Sofia Nelson, a former Yale Law School classmate, who identifies as transgender. According to Nelson, Vance had earlier expressed his disdain for Trump and attended the San Francisco Pride march. But, he allegedly changed his views after being in power.

But there is a significant portion of Republican supporters who identify as queer but may or may not support Trump.

The Log Cabin Republicans is a major right-wing national LGBTQ advocacy group, a rarity in queer discourse since much of it is often on the left of the political spectrum.

Neil J Young, the author of Coming Out Republican: A History of the Gay Right told Vox, “gay Republicans and gay conservatives, even if they’ve been marginalized by the party and demonized by the party, they’ve actually also been fundamental to the development of modern conservatism and the Republican Party that we have today.”

It is to be noted that the platform [equivalent of manifesto] for the Republican Party did not include any specific mentions of queer rights.

Kamala Harris, Tim Walz and the Democratic Party

Kamala Harris has been a long-time supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights in the USA.

She supported same-sex legislation and the Respect For Marriage (RMA) Act, a Federal Law which protects and recognises same-sex and interracial marriages.

Harris met controversy when she appeared to suggest gender-affirming care for prisoners, something which Trump famously pointed out in the September Presidential speech.

While her actions have long reflected her apparent commitment to LGBTQIA+ rights, Harris has received criticism for not bringing in enough legislation to help aid poor transgender persons get gender-affirming care.

Harris had also claimed that Trump wants to ‘end the Affordable Care Act’ which has proven crucial for all people, queer or not. However, a New York Times fact check has pointed out, that Trump has made vague statements about replacing the act with “something better and less expensive.”

Harris has been a vocal critic of book bans and an advocate for teaching about the queer community in schools.

Tim Walz’s ‘Gay-Straight Alliance’

Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, served as a high school teacher and football coach in rural Minnesota, in the 1990s.

He became loved by the queer community after he became the faculty advisor to his school’s ‘Gay-Straight Alliance’ and thus opened the avenue for bridging the gap between the queer community with their straight counterparts.

Democrats and Queerness

The Democratic party’s platform for 2024 includes mention of queer rights and touches upon topics of importance like bringing in legislation to protect queer people from discrimination, support for trans children etc.

But the promises were made before Joe Biden dropped out of the race and Harris picked up the torch.

Although people across the country see Democrats as more accepting of LGBTQIA+ rights, this was not always the case.

President Bill Clinton signed the Defence of Marriage Act in 1996, which defined marriage as one between a ‘man and a woman’, curtailing the queer rights movement’s call for marriage equality.

Clinton also signed the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ legislation, which allowed queer men and women to serve in the military as long as they hid their sexual orientation.

Even though all candidates and both parties have become more vocal about queer issues, the fight for equality continues in the US and the world.

The next US President, Democrat or Republican, will define the way queerness is viewed in the country.

All the world has to do is wait and all Americans have to do is choose wisely.

He has been very vocal about transgender issues and vowed to keep ‘men out of women's sports.’ Also read | Paris Games 2024, Imane Khelif Olympic saga: Beyond the sexism and phobia Billionaires like Elon Musk supported Trump’s view on ‘men being in women's sports’ when the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s gender saga broke out at the Paris Olympics 2024. JD Vance’s Trans Friend Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s history with LGBTQIA+ issues is more convoluted. Also read | US Presidential Election 2024: What key issues are driving the polls? Where do Harris and Trump stand on them? Queer Republicans But there is a significant portion of Republican supporters who identify as queer but may or may not support Trump. The Log Cabin Republicans is a major right-wing national LGBTQ advocacy group, a rarity in queer discourse since much of it is often on the left of the political spectrum. Neil J Young, the author of Coming Out Republican: A History of the Gay Right told Vox, “gay Republicans and gay conservatives, even if they’ve been marginalized by the party and demonized by the party, they’ve actually also been fundamental to the development of modern conservatism and the Republican Party that we have today.” It is to be noted that the platform [equivalent of manifesto] for the Republican Party did not include any specific mentions of queer rights. Kamala Harris, Tim Walz and the Democratic Party Kamala Harris has been a long-time supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights in the USA. However, a New York Times fact check has pointed out, that Trump has made vague statements about replacing the act with “something better and less expensive.” Harris has been a vocal critic of book bans and an advocate for teaching about the queer community in schools. Tim Walz’s ‘Gay-Straight Alliance’ Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, served as a high school teacher and football coach in rural Minnesota, in the 1990s. He became loved by the queer community after he became the faculty advisor to his school’s ‘Gay-Straight Alliance’ and thus opened the avenue for bridging the gap between the queer community with their straight counterparts. Democrats and Queerness The Democratic party’s platform for 2024 includes mention of queer rights and touches upon topics of importance like bringing in legislation to protect queer people from discrimination, support for trans children etc. Way forward Even though all candidates and both parties have become more vocal about queer issues, the fight for equality continues in the US and the world. A United States federal judge, on Friday (Oct 18), made more than 1,800 pages of previously sealed documents linked to the case involving former US President Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election.

A United States federal judge, on Friday (Oct 18), made more than 1,800 pages of previously sealed documents linked to the case involving former US President Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election. However, the recently unsealed documents contain little new information, as most of the pages were either redacted or already known to the public. US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan authorised their release, despite objections from Trump’s legal team. These documents relate to a 165-page motion filed by special counsel Jack Smith, which introduced new evidence against the former president. The released documents serve as an appendix to the previously unsealed motion, where Smith and his team argued that Trump could face criminal charges for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. This lengthy appendix includes records that were mostly redacted and previously available to the public. Also read: US presidential election: Kamala Harris leads Trump among Black voters in swing states, poll shows For example, parts of Trump's well-known phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger have been redacted. Hundreds of other pages were withheld entirely, marked only by the word “SEALED” in capital letters, along with basic formal information. One volume includes sealed pages as well as tweets and social media posts by Trump, his campaign, and his allies, some of which were shared during the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol. Among these posts is Trump’s infamous tweet from that day, which accused the-Vice President Mike Pence of lacking “the courage to do what should have been done” in supporting his efforts to contest the election outcome. Additionally, the documents feature numerous claims of voter fraud during the 2020 election. Prosecutors argue that Trump’s tweets should be admissible in court since they were neither personal or campaign-related, rather than part of his official duties as president. 2024 US Elections: In just a few weeks, on November 5, the United States of America will vote to elect its next president.

The two top candidates in this vital race for the White House are the Democratic Party nominee, the current US Vice-president Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party nominee, former president Donald Trump.

The upcoming 2024 presidential elections are very important to both the candidates. On one hand, Kamala Harris has set her sights on becoming the USA's first-ever female president and on the other, Donald Trump is attempting to achieve a feat only accomplished once earlier in US history: regaining the White House after losing it.

Driving the 2024 US Presidential elections are a number of issues of importance to voters. Let's take a look at some of the key issues and where the two candidates stand on them.

Economy

Amid concerns about the US' state of economy and inflation, about eight in 10, or 81 per cent of the voters, as per Pew Research, say that the economy will be very significant to their vote in the upcoming election.

Billionaire 'dying' to be US' 'secretary of cost-cutting,' says ex-president

Voters, as per reports, favour Trump on this issue and, according to News Gallup, 54 per cent in contrast to Harris's 45 per cent think he can better handle the American economy as the president.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion

One of the most contentious issues of the 2024 Presidential elections is abortion and reproductive rights of women.

A Pew Research poll found that while 67 per cent of Harris supporters view abortion as a key issue, only 35 per cent of Trump supporters share their view.

In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, which gave women all over the nation the right to abortion. This happened largely due to justices appointed by Trump, a feat the Republican has boasted about multiple times.

Harris has been vocal about her support for bringing back the federal protections for a woman's right to an abortion as they existed under Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, Trump, who at one time supported a national ban on the procedure, has softened his stance and now backs the individual state's right to choose.

Immigration

A key issue and one of Trump's favourite topics, immigration, is important for 82 per cent of his supporters. Meanwhile, only 39 per cent of Harris supporters see it as vital to their vote.

Trump in his rally speeches and at the two debates — with President Joe Biden and Harris — has continued to vilify immigrants, calling them rapists, murderers, etc. Meanwhile, Harris, who has faced criticism for her immigration policies as the VP, has not detailed her position on the topic beyond voicing support for a border security bill.

Gun Policy

America is home to more guns than people, and they are to blame for a staggering number of deaths every year — over 48,000 in 2022, for example.

Despite the gun epidemic, i.e., the unbelievably high number of mishappening, and deaths due to guns, the Right to Bear arms remains a contentious issue.

For both Trump and Harris supporters, gun policies and/or gun rights are important. Among the supporters of the Republican candidate, 53 said the issue was key to them. 49 per cent of Harris supporters also share the sentiment.

Watch | US Elections 2024: Trump repeatedly labels Harris as a 'communist'

Donald Trump has been a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and has even positioned himself as a "defender" of the right. As the president, he loosened some restrictions on gun ownership, appointed around 200 federal judges who had "gun-friendly" records, and even ensured that gun sales would continue during the early COVID-19 lockdowns.

His running mate JD Vance even went as far as calling the tragic school shootings that have become very common "a fact of life".

Harris, according to Scientific American, has a long history with the gun rights. During her career as a prosecutor, she supported stricter restrictions on gun ownership, as well as stronger enforcement of existing regulations. As a senator, she worked on legislation that would've mandated universal background checks. As a VP, she and Biden introduced US' first sweeping gun legislation in nearly three decades that enforced stronger background checks, and included a measure to keep guns away from domestic abuse offenders.

Meanwhile, Trump, who at one time supported a national ban on the procedure, has softened his stance and now backs the individual state's right to choose. Immigration A key issue and one of Trump's favourite topics, immigration, is important for 82 per cent of his supporters. Gun Policy America is home to more guns than people, and they are to blame for a staggering number of deaths every year — over 48,000 in 2022, for example. Watch | US Elections 2024: Trump repeatedly labels Harris as a 'communist' Donald Trump has been a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and has even positioned himself as a "defender" of the right.

'Hope he's okay': Harris mocks Trump after Town Hall turns into impromptu concert

The US has been quite vocal about its continuous support for Israel following the Oct 7 attack. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been firm in supporting Israel’s right to defend itself while also expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The US-Israel alliance has dwelled upon the fact that Israel must take action to protect its citizens. The Biden administration has been committed to continuous military support to ensure Israel’s right to security. However, even after a year now, the situation in Gaza still intensifies with rising civilian casualties on a daily basis.

But the question arises: Will this support affect the vote bank for Democrats among Arab Americans?

Many feel that the Biden administration failed to make an agreement on both sides and call for a ceasefire. This has sparked protests all over the world, particularly amongst Muslim countries, who have expressed anger and believe that the administration should take a stronger stand on humanitarian aid for people in war-battered Gaza.

In recent weeks, the US Vice President and Democrats have been meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders in Michigan. During her campaign rally in Michigan, Harris was even asked to take a step back from Biden’s Israel policy and urge for a ceasefire.

In the past, Arab Americans were a majority voting bank for Democrats, especially after 9/11 and because of Trump’s anti-Muslim dialogues. Traditionally, the total voter turnout of Arab Americans has been over 80 per cent. However, this year only 63 per cent of the members of the Arab community are looking forward to the elections next month.

Harris seems to be concerned about Arab voters in Michigan. Some community leaders have also mentioned that the majority of Arab Americans might withhold their support for Democrats in the 2024 elections unless some changes are made in the policies.

According to Swing State Poll 2024- Muslims and Arabs in Michigan play an important role in changing the whole outcome of the US Presidential Elections. Their main concern revolves around the lack of administration decision-making in calling for an immediate ceasefire and the constant supply of military aid to Israel amid endless casualties. A recent poll by Arab Americans Institute shows that the Democrats are hitting an all-time low of 23 per cent after October 7.

Also, voters of the Arab community are preferring Republicans to take over the next Congress. This can have a huge impact, as the community played an important role in contributing to Biden’s victory in 2020.

Harris is working towards connecting with the larger Muslim and Arab citizens. The effort, however, comes as tension between Israel and Lebanon has been rising.

Many progressive Democrats have also criticised the administration over human rights issues and have been pressuring the Biden administration for de-escalation and ebsuring humanitarian aid supply to the people in Gaza. Many vocal figures, like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, have questioned the policies on the conflict.

This has created a divide within the party, with some supporting the stance while others being critical of it. With days passing by, the crisis in Gaza remains unresolved even as both Harris and Biden have been trying to strike a balance between the two sides.

Is Kamala Harris losing Arab-American support in coming US elections?

Elon Musk gave around $75 million to his pro-Donald Trump spending group in the span of three months, federal disclosures showed on Tuesday, underscoring how the billionaire has become crucial to the Republican candidate's efforts to win the November 5 presidential election.

America PAC, which is focused on turning out voters in closely contested states that could decide the election, spent around $72 million of that in the July-September period, according to disclosures filed to the Federal Election Commission.

That is more than any other pro-Trump super PAC focused on turning out voters. The Trump campaign is broadly reliant on outside groups for canvassing voters, meaning the super PAC founded by Musk - the world's richest man - plays an outsized role in the razor-thin election between Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.

Musk, the CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, was the sole donor to the group in that period.

Musk, who has said he has voted for Democratic presidential candidates in the past, has taken a sharp turn to the right this election. He endorsed Trump in July and appeared with him at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Musk said in a post on X that he will be "giving a series of talks" throughout Pennsylvania, less than two weeks after his appearance with Trump in the state.

He said people only needed to sign a petition on his America PAC website to attend his talks from "tomorrow night through Monday."

Reuters reported, quoting a source, last week that Musk planned more campaigning for Trump in Pennsylvania, considered a crucial state for both Trump and his Democratic opponent Harris in the race for the White House.

Musk's donations to America PAC propel him into the exclusive club of Republican mega-donors, a list that also includes banking heir Timothy Mellon and casino billionaire Miriam Adelson.

However, Reuters reported earlier this month that Musk has secretly funded a conservative political group for years, well before his public embrace of Trump.

America PAC declined to comment on the Musk donations. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

America PAC is focused on encouraging Americans who like Trump but don't always vote to cast ballots this cycle, a high-risk, labour-intensive strategy by the Trump campaign.

The group, which started its work later in the election than other PACs, has encountered some problems with hiring and its contractors. Since July, it has fired two major contractors it has hired to knock on doors.

It has also struggled to hire door knockers in several battleground states in part because by the time the PAC became operational many other canvassing groups had already staffed up, a half-dozen sources briefed on the issues told Reuters.

The group had around $4 million left on hand by the end of September, the filings show.

Separate filings earlier on Tuesday showed that Miriam Adelson, the casino magnate, donated $95 million to another pro-Trump super PAC, Preserve America PAC, in the same period.

Harris labels Trump 'unstable, unhinged' over 'enemy within' comment, puts him on big screen in Pennsylvania

Former US President Donal Trump was astonished by a female supporter during his campaign rally in Arizona on Sunday, October 13. Trump paused during his speech during the event to compliment the woman and commented on the modern political correctness culture in a light banter.

The Republican candidate held the rally in the swing state in an attempt to flip it from back to red after current US President Joe Biden won Arizona during the 2020 elections.

While Trump was discussing the large crowd size at the rally, a woman supporter shouted “Because we love you!”

Trump scanned the audience to spot the woman as the crowd cheered.

“Where is that woman?” he inquired, pausing his speech. “Stand up!”

As Trump saw the woman he was stunned and exclaimed, “Look at her. Wow! I would say — that’s beautiful.”

Trump went on further to compliment the woman, “Is she your wife? You know what? I would say she’s a beautiful woman, but if I did say that — my political career, you’re not allowed to say that. So I’m not allowed to call you a beautiful woman.”

He turned away for a moment then whispered, “But she is!”

The crowd applauded and erupted with laughter. Trump then made a remark to express his distaste for the ‘politically correct culture’.

“It’s crazy what’s gone on! You have to be politically correct, nowadays.”

The former president then continued with his rally speech, during which he discussed several key topics.

Trump focused his rally discussion on border security issues and pledged to increase the border patrol staff by 10,000 agents if he is re-elected in the state. Additionally, he promised to ask Congress for a 10% raise in pay for border agents, with a $10,000 signing and retention bonus.

"We’re going to secure the border like never before," Trump told the audience.

According to the government data, nearly 7 million immigrants have crossed the US-Mexico border under Biden’s government.

The Republican candidate held the rally in the swing state in an attempt to flip it from back to red after current US President Joe Biden won Arizona during the 2020 elections. While Trump was discussing the large crowd size at the rally, a woman supporter shouted “Because we love you!” Trump scanned the audience to spot the woman as the crowd cheered. Wow! I would say — that’s beautiful.” Trump went on further to compliment the woman, “Is she your wife? You know what? I would say she’s a beautiful woman, but if I did say that — my political career, you’re not allowed to say that. So I’m not allowed to call you a beautiful woman.” He turned away for a moment then whispered, “But she is!” The crowd applauded and erupted with laughter. Trump then made a remark to express his distaste for the ‘politically correct culture’. “It’s crazy what’s gone on! You have to be politically correct, nowadays.” Also read | Trump is livid at his portrayal in new biopic The Apprentice, calls it a hatchet job; director says... (With inputs from agencies)

Donald Trump's lawyers pushed on Monday to transfer to federal court the case in which he was convicted in a New York state court on charges involving covering up hush money paid to a porn star, a move that would give him the ability to end the prosecution if he regains the presidency.

His lawyers renewed the request in a brief filed with the Manhattan-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as they appealed U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein's Sept. 3 ruling rejecting the shift to federal court. Trump was convicted in May of 34 felony counts of falsifying documents.

In their brief, Trump's lawyers cited the US Supreme Court's July 1 decision that former presidents cannot be prosecuted for official actions taken in office. In the hush money case, they said, jurors had improperly seen evidence of Trump's official acts as president.

Kamala Harris goes full Trump, challenges 78-year-old Republican to reveal his health report

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has erased Republican rival Donald Trump's advantage in the vast middle of American society: suburban residents and middle-income households, an analysis of Reuters/Ipsos polling shows.

Since President Joe Biden ended his flagging re-election bid on July 21, Vice President Harris has pulled into the lead in both of these large demographic groups, reinvigorating Democrats' prospects in the Nov. 5 election, though the race remains exceptionally close.

Suburbanites, who make up about half of the U.S. electorate and are as racially diverse as the nation at large, are a key prize. Biden beat Trump in suburban counties by about six percentage points in the 2020 presidential election.

Before Biden dropped out, Trump was leading him 43% to 40% among suburbanites in Reuters/Ipsos polls conducted in June and July, reflecting the Democrat's struggle to energize supporters.

Harris began closing the gap when she launched her campaign in July and led Trump 47% to 41% among suburban voters in polling across September and October. That represents a nine-point swing in the Democrat's favour, according to the analysis of six Reuters/Ipsos polls that included responses from over 6,000 registered voters.

During the same periods, Trump went from leading Biden 44% to 37% among voters in households that earn between $50,000 and $100,000 - roughly the middle third of the nation - to trail Harris 43% to 45%, also a nine-point swing away from Trump. The figures had margins of error of around 3 percentage points.

Trump carried this group 52%-47% in 2020, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of exit polls.

Reuters/Ipsos surveys have shown voters consider the economy the No. 1 issue ahead of the election and in a poll conducted in October, 46% of voters said Trump was the better candidate for the economy, 8 points more than Harris' 38%.

The polls have also shown Trump as the more trusted candidate on immigration and crime. Trump told supporters in August he was the candidate that would keep suburbs safe and ensure that migrants coming across the border illegally are kept "away from the suburbs."

Trump has blamed the Biden administration for inflation that has hurt middle class Americans. Harris, meanwhile, has put considerable focus in her speeches on pledges to increase the size of the middle class. She also is more often picked in polls as the better candidate for protecting democracy and taking a stand against political extremism.

"Her focus on affordability has been highly effective in narrowing Trump's advantage on inflation and the economy," said David Wasserman, a political analyst at the Cook Political Report.

Wasserman said Harris appeared to be performing well among relatively affluent suburbanites who could be growing more optimistic about the economy, while her gains among middle-income voters could be due to her campaign's regular pledges to help middle-class households.

But he noted that voter turnout in Democratic-leaning urban areas and Republican-leaning rural towns could also be critical in deciding the election.

TUNING IN

Harris supporters contacted by Reuters for follow-up interviews this week also said they had not paid much attention to her before she became a presidential candidate, and that they became more supportive of her as they learned more about her.

The latest of the six polls, conducted Oct. 4-7, showed Harris up a marginal 3 percentage points over Trump among registered voters overall, 46% to 43%.

Her modest edge in national polling is significant although the winner of the election will likely be determined by the results in seven battleground states - Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, Wisconsin and Georgia - where polls have also shown a tight race.

Winning the middle - whether nationally or in the election's key states - won't necessarily crown the victor. Democrat Hillary Clinton, who got nearly 3 million votes more than Trump nationwide in the 2016 election and beat him in suburban counties by about 1 percentage point, still lost the election when Trump flipped six states that had voted Democratic in 2012.

Poll respondent Sheila Lester, an 83-year-old Harris supporter living in Peoria, Arizona, which mostly lies in the state's battleground Maricopa County, said in a phone interview that she had become convinced Trump would beat Biden.

She said she rejoiced when the Democratic Party quickly coalesced around the candidacy of Harris, especially since she could be the first woman U.S. president.

"The response that she has gotten has made me a little bit more proud of this country," said Lester, a retired customer service employee who considers herself part of the middle class. She said she liked Harris' toughness on abortion rights and her pledge to grow the middle class. "I am definitely anti-Trump, but I believe I'm more pro-Harris."

Maricopa County played an important role in Biden's 2020 victory, when the county narrowly flipped Democratic after voting for Trump in 2016.

Karen Davidson, 83, who lives in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a middle-class suburb of Detroit, said she had not been that familiar with Harris before she moved to the top of the ticket.

"I needed to know more about her to form any kind of thought," Davidson said.

"The way she stood up to people who were berating her, I had to respect that having been in the industrial machinery business when women didn't work in it, I know what that's like," Davidson continued. "She had the strength, and that's what's needed to run our country."

In Pooler, Georgia, a suburb of Savannah, grocery store employee Kevin Garcia said he also was relieved Biden had bowed out and preferred Harris' pledges to support small businesses over Trump's promise to tax imported goods.

"I just feel better about the chances," said Garcia, 24, who lives in a single-family home neighborhood in the state that, like Arizona, narrowly flipped Democratic in 2020.

Kamala Harris overtakes Donald Trump among suburban residents: Poll

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump vowed on Sunday to slap 200 percent tariffs on vehicles shipped in from Mexico, ratcheting up his trade protectionist stance as the November 5 election looms. The announcement is a hardening of his previous promise to impose a 100 percent tariff on all imported cars and trucks in a bid to help strengthen the US auto industry.

Speaking at a rally in Juneau, Wisconsin, earlier this month, Trump promised to impose tariffs of 200 percent on goods if necessary. It's not going to happen. "Those cars are not coming in the United States." His comments, meanwhile, come as he travels vigorously across battleground Wisconsin, where polls show him locked in a race with Democrat Kamala Harris.

The election has become a crucial battleground as both candidates spend heavily on the state. In recent weeks, current vice president Harris campaigned with former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, in an attempt to woo voters to her side. Trump had won the state in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, but the state previously backed Biden over Trump in 2020.

Trump was in Juneau after a controversial rally there in May, one of several recent public appearances that have drawn controversy, including one in Butler, Pennsylvania in July where he narrowly avoided an assassination attempt. In his speech, he also repeated his plans to bolster U.S. auto industry while experts warn it could mean higher prices for consumers if the tariff is steep enough.

About half of the 3 million vehicles Mexico exported to the U.S. in 2023 were from major American automakers. 'Really, a new tariff could add massively to what consumers pay for a new car or used car' – a new tariff would cost significantly more than a used one, the Tax Policy Center has observed.

Additionally, Trump used the rally to criticize the Biden administration’s response to Hurricane Helene, which caused significant devastation and loss of life. He accused Harris of leaving people "stranded," without providing evidence for his claims. In contrast, Deanne Criswell, head of FEMA, defended the administration's actions, stating that resources were being effectively deployed to assist recovery efforts.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance on Saturday (Oct 5) addressed the Trump campaign's stance on abortion.

Just days after former first lady Melania Trump voiced her support for a woman's right to abortion, Vance defended the campaign's conservative position on the issue.

Emphasising state-level autonomy over abortion laws, Vance said, "I don't think our campaign messaging has been inconsistent at all."

Talking to reporters, he said that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's view allows states to shape their own abortion regulations.

"On the abortion question, the president's been very clear that he wants Georgia to make Georgia's laws, California to make California's laws and to respect the fact that we kind of have a messy democracy where sometimes different states are going to make different determinations on these issues," he said.

The comments come days after Melania Trump, the former first lady and Donald Trump's wife, made remarks that seemed to contrast her husband's more moderate tone. In a video released on Thursday (Oct 3), Melania expressed firm support for a woman's right to "individual freedom," and said there was "no room for compromise". This stance diverged from Trump's previous statements and the Republican Party's platform.

Vance was asked about the former first lady's comments and offered a measured response. "I adore the First Lady," he said, adding that she's entitled to her opinions.

His position on abortion has shifted over the years. He was "very pro-choice" in the 1990s before declaring himself "pro-life" in 2011. This year, Trump has hinted at supporting a national abortion ban.

JD Vance backs Trump's state-based abortion approach days after Melania Trump's pro-choice statement

Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump in her forthcoming memoir "Melania," has voiced firm support for abortion rights — a contrast to her husband's stance on the issue.

As reported by The Guardian, Melania asserts that the decision regarding abortion should lie solely with the woman, stating, "Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?"

"A woman's fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes."

She further elaborates that restricting a woman's right to choose is akin to denying her autonomy over her body, a belief she claims to have held throughout her adult life.
