The Spanish government has called for a second emergency crisis committee meeting which includes domestic violence experts and will also be attended by the country’s equality, interior and justice ministries, on Friday (January 27). This comes in light of the recent murders of six women and one 8-year-old girl since the beginning of this year, said Spain’s Equality Minister, &nbsp;Irene Montero, on Monday.&nbsp;

According to a report by the Guardian, Spain’s government is also considering proposals which would allow authorities to inform victims of domestic violence if their partners have been convicted of violent offences against women in the past. Last month, a crisis committee emergency meeting was convened after the murder of 11 women.

“This month of January, six women and an 8-year-old girl have been murdered due to sexist violence…we (the equality ministry) convene the Crisis Committee this Friday at 10 am to analyse each case in detail, find out what has gone wrong, improve coordination and ALWAYS arrive on time,” said Montero, on Twitter.&nbsp;

The equality minister is referring to the alleged murder of a 45-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter in the Spanish province of Valladolid, on Monday, reported the Guardian. This was five days after a 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed in the Spanish province of Catalan. The meeting on Friday will also be attended by representatives from Spain’s self-governing regions.&nbsp;

In December, the government had also called on the Spanish courts and prosecutors to ramp up the use of electronic bracelets for former partners who had been subjected to restraining orders, in a bid to protect women, said the media report. “Since 2009, when these bracelets were brought in, no woman wearing one has been murdered,” said the country’s justice minister, Pilar Llop, last month.&nbsp;

The electronic bracelets system was introduced in the country over a decade ago to protect women against their aggressors where the police track both the victims of domestic violence as well as their assailant. Furthermore, as per reports, the authorities are promptly alerted in case of different scenarios like if the battery of the device runs out or the aggressor tries to remove the tag or they try to enter the victim’s safety perimeter.&nbsp;

The report also noted how the number of women murdered by their partners or former partners accounting for the recent incidents has reached nearly 1,200 in the last two decades when the government first began recording such incidents. Furthermore, 50 children have reportedly been killed in domestic violence attacks in the same time period.

"We appreciate&nbsp;Gregg&nbsp;and Rosalind coming forward to speak openly about this incident," the statement said. "US Soccer condemns violence of any kind and takes such allegations very seriously." US Soccer said it is also looking into "potential inappropriate behavior towards multiple members of our staff by individuals outside of our organization. "We take such behavior seriously and have expanded our investigation to include those allegations."

Former Disney star Orlando Brown, who was arrested on Thursday in Ohio, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanour assault charges stemming from an alleged altercation with his brother Matthew in Lima, Ohio.

According to Allen County Sheriff’s Office records, the 35-year-old rapper and actor was taken into custody on Thursday and held on a $25,000 bond. He was arraigned on Friday in Lima Municipal Court and charged with aggravated menacing.

As per a report by TMZ, a spokesperson for the Lima Police Department revealed that Brown's brother Matthew had accused him of acting "crazy" inside his house, accusing him of raping his wife and then coming at him with a broken knife blade and a hammer in a threatening manner.&nbsp;

Brown was never able to physically strike his brother with the weapons, and he eventually put them down.

Cops reached the spot as the&nbsp;fight was in progress. As they witnessed the verbal argument, they feared that it could turn violent so they arrested Brown and pressed charges against him.

It is, however, unclear&nbsp;who called 911.

Aliza's attorney, Advocate Barrister Qaim Shah, claimed that "Feroze Khan tortured Alizah on November 15, 2020, as well." Aliza claimed that her son Sultan was hurt during the altercation with her ex-husband. The attorney went on to say that "Feroze and his family threatened Aliza" when his client went to the police station to file a complaint. Aliza was "often subjected to physical abuse on multiple occasions," according to attorney Shah, "but she chose to remain silent because of her children."Feroze and Aliza tied the knot in 2018 and have two children - Sultan and Fathima.

Hours before taking her life, Mandeep Kaur recorded a video of herself where she was heard detailing her ordeal. In the nearly five-minute-long clip, she said that her husband, Ranjodhbeer Singh Sandhu—who works as a truck driver—used to beat her up daily.

Her clip was shared on Instagram by The Kaur Movement, an organisation that works for sexual and domestic abuse victims, focusing on the Sikh community. The video quickly became viral on Twitter and Facebook&nbsp;where several enraged people commented on the stigmas in society.

“I tried my best, but I cannot take the daily beatings now. For eight years, I have been tolerating his bad behaviour, hoping that he will mend his ways one day,” the mother of two daughters — aged 6 and 4 — was heard saying in Punjabi as she wept.

Mandeep and her husband are from northern state Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor region. She also claimed that her husband had many extramarital affairs over the years.

“After seeing the torture inflicted on me, my father got him (Sandhu) booked in a case. Then he pleaded… and got off,” Mandeep said, adding that her husband once held her hostage for five days and beat her up.

&nbsp;She further said that she didn’t want to leave her two daughters behind “but now I cannot tolerate this torture anymore and am taking this extreme step”.

"Daddy, I am going to die, please forgive me," she said. Mandeep Kaur died on August 4.

Mandeep’s father, Jaspal Singh, has filed a case against his daughter's in-laws, who live in India and Sandhu, who is in US, at Bijnor police station. He is currently seeking custody of his two granddaughters.

The Indian mission in New York has said that it is in touch with the authorities and assured to help the grieving family.

However, such incidents intensified during the pandemic. Now, a study just published in the European Journal of Population finds that Google searches are an effective tool to track and predict domestic violence. The study refers to the times of crisis, such as the period that followed the Covid outbreak. But now, scholars such as Selin Koksal, a PhD Candidate in Public Policy at Bocconi University in Milan specializing in population and gender, have a better understanding of the issue. Scholars analysed the relations between Google searches for nine domestic violence-related keywords. On one hand, they analysed calls to the Italian domestic violence helpline 1522 and to the emergency number 112 in Lombardy on the other. Reports mentioned that Koksal teamed up with former PhD colleague Ebru Sanliturk (Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research) and consulted former Bocconi scholar Valentina Rotondi (SUPSI and the University of Oxford). It is worth noting that in 2020, Bot Sentinel, a group that tracks online disinformation and harassment, was hired by Heard’s lawyers to analyze the social media campaign against her. “Everyone thinks that any activity against them is bots or whatever,” the group’s founder, Chris Bouzy, told me. But in this case, some of it was — Bouzy estimated that there were 340 “inauthentic” Twitter accounts devoted to defaming Heard and amplifying petitions calling for her to be fired from acting and modeling gigs. “A small number of accounts can drive conversations on Twitter,” he said.

Yet even if trolls and bots helped juice anti-Heard mania, there are obviously plenty of real people participating in it. Some of them are obsessive Depp fans; as Kaitlyn Tiffany wrote in The Atlantic, there is a history of online communities fixating “on theories that the male objects of their fandom were being manipulated and tortured by less-famous, female romantic partners.”

'Almost satanic': Pope Francis condemns rising violence against women

French judo coach Alain Schmitt, accused by Olympic judo champion Margaux Pinot of domestic violence, claimed on Friday that he had merely defended himself in a fight that he said she started.

Pinot, who won mixed team gold at the Tokyo Olympics, has accused Schmitt&nbsp;her partner and former coach&nbsp;of attacking her in a drunken rage while she was in bed in her apartment Saturday night.

"He straddled me, and started punching me, left and right," the 27-year old told a news conference on Thursday, her face covered in bruises.

"I didn't even defend myself to avoid the punches, instead I tried to reason with him. I said 'Stop Alain, stop'," she said. "I thought to myself, I need to get away from him, or I'll die here".

Police arrested Schmitt, but he was released after a court hearing early Wednesday, with the judge saying that there was insufficient evidence to support the domestic violence allegation.

Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo, who is the mayor of Paris, said that Pinot "has all my support", while Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu said that "Margaux is clearly the victim here".

But Schmitt said that it was Pinot who attacked him, out of anger because he was about to leave for Israel where he had been hired to coach the national women judo team.

Schmitt said he accepted the job to get out of the relationship with Pinot which he said had been "complicated" over the past two years.

He told BFMTV that, during the fight, he tried to leave the apartment, but "each time I was pulled back, by my T-shirt or my arm".

He insisted that he "neither punched nor kicked" her. "I'm not violent. Everybody needs to hear that," he said.

In her 118-page complaint, Talwar has accused Honey Singh of engaging in extra-marital sex with multiple women. She has also provided details of the physical, verbal and emotional abuse that she had allegedly been subjected to by the rapper and his family.

Shalini Talwar, in her complaint, accused the Indian rapper of locking her up for over 18 hours without&nbsp; food and forced her to quit her job. "The respondent (Singh) broke the applicant as an individual, mentally and emotionally. The applicant, due to the continuous cruelty imposed on her, almost started identifying herself as a farm animal, shepherded from here to there while being treated cruelly," read the plea.

The complaint states that he “began having frequent casual sex with multiple women” while he was travelling and “to further his sexual intents and illicit relationships, never disclosed to the public ... that he was married”.&nbsp;

 
The complainant accused&nbsp;Yo Yo Honey Singh of trying to conceal his proclivities from the time they got married at a Delhi Gurudwara back in 2011.&nbsp;

She also accused him of engaging in substance abuse and having an affair with a Punjabi movie actress.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Tania Singh, issued a notice to Honey Singh to appear before her on August 28.&nbsp;

 
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate also passed interim orders restraining the rapper from disposing of the property he jointly owned with his wife as well as her ‘stridhan’ (dowry).

The Istanbul Convention, signed in 2011, committed its signatories to prevent and prosecute domestic violence and promote equality. Erdogan announced the withdrawal in March in favour of local laws to protect women's rights.

Thousands were set on Thursday to protest the decision across Turkey, where femicide has surged. A court appeal to halt the withdrawal was rejected this week.

"What surprised me is that you can say nearly everything using the code," she said.

"This is a disheartening step backward for the international movement to end violence against women globally," Biden said in a White House statement, adding that the "sudden and unwarranted" move was "deeply disappointing."

"Gender-based violence is a scourge that touches every nation in every corner of the world. In the past few weeks, we've seen too many examples of horrific and brutal assaults on women, including the tragic murders in Georgia," he continued.

"And we've seen the broader damage that living under the daily specter of gender-based violence does to women everywhere. It hurts all of us, and we all must do more to create societies where women are able to go about their lives free from violence."

High Court Judge Andrew Nicol ruled last November that Depp had violently assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard during their tempestuous five-year relationship, at times putting her in fear for her life. 
 
That decision came after three weeks of hearings where the court heard sensational claim and counter-claim from Depp, 57, and Heard, 34, about violent outbursts which each accused the other of committing. 
 
Depp, star of films including "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Edward Scissorhands", had gone to the London court to sue The Sun newspaper and one of its journalists over an article that stated he had been violent towards Heard. 
 
"I have found that the great majority of alleged assaults of Ms Heard by Mr Depp have been proved to the civil standard," said Nicol in his November ruling. 
In the aftermath, Depp`s lawyers said the ruling was so flawed it would be ridiculous for him not to appeal. 
 
They said it was "troubling" the judge had relied on Heard`s testimony while rejecting the evidence of police officers, her former assistant and other witnesses which they said had undermined her evidence. 
 
On Thursday, Depp`s legal team will apply for permission to appeal and to rely on further evidence. The hearing, expected to last for about two hours, will be livestreamed on the Court of Appeal`s YouTube channel. 
 
Following Nicol`s verdict, seen as being highly damaging to his career, Depp was asked to leave the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise, the movie spin-offs from the "Harry Potter" books and films. 
 
During the libel trial last summer, Heard said Depp would turn into a jealous alter ego, "the monster", after bingeing on drugs and alcohol and had often threatened to kill her. 
 
Heard detailed 14 occasions of extreme violence when she said the actor choked, punched, slapped, head-butted, throttled and kicked her, with Nicol accepting 12 of these accounts were true, including an assault after her 30th birthday party and another incident that left her with black eyes. 
 
The couple met while making "The Rum Diary" in 2011 and married four years later, but divorced in 2016.

The man suspected of killing the police officers&nbsp;has been "discovered dead," Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced Wednesday.

In a Twitter post, Darmanin did not give further details of how the 48-year-old man died, but said he was heading to the scene near Saint-Just, a village south of the city of Clermont-Ferrand.

The mayor of the nearby French town of Saint-Just said police were called to a report of domestic violence in the village in central France, some 180 km (114 miles) west of the city of Lyon.

Mayor Francois Chautard said special forces were on the scene following the fatal shooting in the village, said media.

When police arrived a 48-year-old man starting shooting at them and then set fire to the house, according to media reports.

The woman, who was the reported victim of domestic violence, sought refuge on the roof of the house and was rescued safely by police.

Police approached the house shortly after midnight and were targetted by gunfire. A police operation was still underway in the village, said French television service BFMTV.

The gunman initially shot and killed one officer and wounded another, before setting fire to the house.

Two further officers, responding to the scene, were then fired on and killed, according to the Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor's office.

The gunman is said to be known to authorities for charges relating to child custody issues.

Firefighters are also on site attempting to control the blaze.

The domestic abuse cases increased worldwide due to the lockdowns that were initiated in the country to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The increase in domestic abuse cases forced the French government to think of fool-proof ways of keeping the abusers away from the victims.

In such a move, the French judges are now being given the&nbsp;option of putting electronic tracking ankle bracelets on the domestic violence abusers which would have GPS tags and will track every moment of the wearer. If the abuser doesn't amend by the warning, the police will intervene and the abuser will be charged.
