<p>Australia's defence department said on Sunday (August 27) that a US military aircraft crashed on a remote island north of mainland Australia while it was taking part in war games. US officials have said that three US Marines were killed in the crash while 20 sustained injuries.</p>

<p>"There were a total of 23 personnel on board. Three have been confirmed deceased while five others were transported to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition," a US Marines official said in a statement.</p>

<p>"At this critical early stage, our focus is on the incident response and ensuring the safety of those involved," the Defence Department said in a statement, adding that Australian soldiers were "not involved". &nbsp;</p>

<p>The crashed aircraft is an Osprey vertical takeoff aircraft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An emergency services incident map for Northern Territory revealed that there was an "aircraft crash" on Melville Island. The island is about 60 kilometres (37 miles) north of mainland Australia.</p>

<p>The aircraft was participating in Predators Run exercises. It's a joint combat drill between the US and Australian military.</p>

<p>Ospreys aircraft is a&nbsp;tilt-rotor aircraft.&nbsp;It is a hybrid craft that has two engines on fixed wingtips. These allow the aircraft to land and take-off vertically. It travels much faster than a conventional helicopter.</p>

<p>The safety record of this type of aircraft has reportedly come into question following a series of fatal accidents.</p>

<p>In April 2000, 19 Marines were killed when an Osprey crashed during a training exercise in Arizona.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And three marines were killed in 2017 when an Osprey crashed after clipping the back of a transport ship while trying to land at sea off Australia's north coast.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In July this year, four Australians were killed after their Taipan helicopter crashed into sea during war games near Queensland.</p>

<p>Northern Australia has assumed greater importance in recent years as the US and Australia look to counter growing Chinese influence in the Asia-Pacific region.</p>

About 10 people have lost their lives in a deadly plane crash near Malaysia's capital. Just minutes before the plane with 8 onboard was about to land the private Beechcraft plane was two minutes away from landing when it suddenly lost contact with the tower and then crashed into the highway on a motorcyclist and driver. <p>A single-engine plane crashed into a hangar killing three people just outside Los Angeles on Sunday (July 30). The incident took place at an airport in Southern California. The plane was trying to take off when the tragedy took place.</p>

<p>The Beechcraft P35 caught fire after impact at Cable Airport around 6:30 am (local time) on Sunday. The airport is located in the city of Upland.</p>

<p>Media reports say that the three victims included the pilot and two passengers. They&nbsp;were pronounced dead at the scene. The fire was put out by San Bernardino County firefighters. When the plane crashed, there was an exposure threat to the hangar and also to a fuel truck which was parked nearby. However, the firefighters were able to get the flames under control in less than 20 minutes. No firefighter was injured.</p>

<p>The police reportedly said that no one else was injured.</p>

<p>The crash caused moderate damage to the hangar. The site of the crash is about 40 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have opened a probe into the incident.</p>

<p>CBS News reported, citing an official, that the impacted hangar is used to support the aviation unit of the Ontario Police Department. At the time of the crash, several helicopters were reportedly housed at that location.</p>

<p>United States' National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Tuesday (July 18) that it was opening a fresh special crash investigation into a fatal accident involving a Tesla Model 3. The accident had taken place in California in the year 2018. It has been suspected that advanced driver assistance systems were in use when the accident took place.</p>

<p>Special crash investigations into more than three dozen Tesla vehicles have been opened by the NHTSA since 2016. It is suspected that advanced driver assistance systems like Autopilot were in use when these accidents occurred. Twenty crash deaths have been reported.</p>

<p>Reuters reported that Tesla did not immediately respond to its request for comment.</p>

<p>This is the first new special crash investigation opened since March. Before that, the NHTSA had said that it was opening a new special investigation in&nbsp;February. This accident too, had taken place in California and involved a Tesla Model S.</p>

US: New special probe opened into 2018 fatal Tesla crash in California

<p>An eight-year-old girl was killed and 15 others injured after a woman crashed her car into a primary school in Wimbledon, south-west London, on Thursday morning.</p>

<p>According to local media reports, the girls were "having a tea party" at the time when a black Land Rover smashed through the gates of the school.</p>

<p>Police have arrested the woman, who is said to be in her 40s, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.</p>

<p>The incident took place around 9.30 am following which the Metropolitan Police were called in about the car crashing into the school building on Camp Road.</p>

<p>Later, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance were dispatched to attend to the injured girls aged 4 to 11.</p>

<p>Firefighters were also at the scene, removing safety railings to help emergency services reach the site.</p>

<p>"This is a very difficult time for everyone here at the school and across the wider community,” detective chief superintendent for the police Clair Kelland said in a news conference.</p>

<p>The incident was labelled by the United States as "reckless" and "unprofessional" while Moscow refuted the allegations and Washington was instead accused of conducting "hostile" flights in the region.</p>

<p>"The United States will continue to fly and to operate wherever international law allows," said Austin while speaking to reporters after the call with Shoigu. "And it is incumbent upon Russia to operate its military aircraft in a safe and professional manner," he added.</p>

<p>US Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said that the video and the data retrieved from the drone are still being analysed by the Pentagon to see what exactly happened.</p>

<p>"Was it intentional or not? - don't know yet. We know that the intercept was intentional. We know that the aggressive behaviour was intentional, we also know it was very unprofessional and very unsafe," said Milley.</p>

<p>"The actual contact of the fixed-wing Russian fighter with our UAV, the physical contact with those two, not sure yet,” he added.</p>

<p>Appreciating the call, Austin said, “We take any potential for escalation very seriously and that's why I believe it's important to keep the lines of communication open.”</p>

<p>"I think it's really key that we're able to pick up the phone and engage each other. And I think that will help to prevent miscalculation going forward,” he added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Shoigu, in talks with Austin, said that "increased intelligence activities against the interests of the Russian Federation" as well as the "non-compliance with the restricted flight zone" declared by Moscow because of its military campaign in Ukraine led to the incident with the drone, said the defence ministry in a statement.</p>

<p>The Russian ministry further warned that it would react "proportionately" to any "provocations" by the US in future.</p>

<p>"Flights of American strategic unmanned aerial vehicles off the coast of Crimea are provocative in nature, which creates pre-conditions for an escalation of the situation in the Black Sea zone," the ministry stated.</p>

<p>"Russia is not interested in such a development of events, but it will continue to respond proportionately to all provocations,” it added.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, Moscow said that the wreckage of a US military drone will be retrieved by the officials.</p>

<p>In televised remarks, Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Moscow would retrieve the wreckage of the downed craft but remained unsure if they would achieve success. "But it has to be done. And we will certainly work on it," he stated.</p>

<p>Ryder said that the crashed drone has not been recovered by Russia. The Pentagon said that the drone's propeller was struck by one of the Russian Su-27 jets, making it inoperable.</p>

<p>The investigators spotted the wreckage onn after three failed attempts due to poor weather. The impact of the crash was severe as only the tail section of the plane was spotted in the wreckage by the investigators.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to CAAP, the Cessna 340 aircraft carrying four onboard went missing last Saturday, shortly after departing for Manila from Bicol International Airport.&nbsp;</p>
