Kanye West aka Ye's wife Bianca Censori is no stranger to stirring pots with her controversial outfits. The Australian architect and model is often trolled online for wearing next to nothing on the streets.
A Miss South Africa contestant whose Nigerian heritage sparked a national controversy and a government investigation withdrew from the beauty pageant Thursday. Chidimma Adetshina's announcement that she would not take part in Saturday's final came a day after the Home Affairs ministry accused her mother of fraud and identity theft.

"After much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I," Adetshina, 23, wrote on Instagram.

Adetshina, a law student, has been the subject of vicious, xenophobic attacks on social media since she was announced as a finalist in July, with many -- including cabinet ministers -- questioning her credentials because of her Nigerian descent.

Adetshina has previously told local media she was born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambican descent.

The ruckus led to an investigation into her citizenship following a request from the pageant's organisers.

On Wednesday, home affairs minister Leon Schreiber said the investigation uncovered "prima facie indications" that Adetshina's mother might have committed fraud and stolen the identity of a South African woman.

The ministry said it was obtaining legal advice on the implications of this on the citizenship of Adetshina, who was an infant at the time of the alleged fraud.

South Africa grants citizenship by birth to anyone born in the country after 1995 to a South African parent or permanent resident.

Adetshina's participation in the pageant stoked anti-foreigner sentiment in the nation, which has witnessed violent, and at times deadly, attacks on immigrants in the past.

Politicians, celebrities and ordinary citizens weighed in on the debate. While many came to her defence, others argued she should be disqualified.

Announcing her decision to quit, Adetshina thanked everyone who "stood beside me right from the start of my Miss South Africa journey".

"I am really grateful for all the love and support I have been shown," she wrote.

Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits to adhere to WION's style guide. Miss South Africa hopeful quits after citizenship row

Serving fans of Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel "It Ends With Us" was at the heart of bringing the book to the big screen, actress Blake Lively says. At the London premiere of the romantic drama on Thursday, Lively said that turning the novel into a film, was "a great responsibility, but also an opportunity."

"When you have to service a group of people who are so passionate about the source material ... to be able to serve people who care so much, is beautiful," the actor said.

In the movie Lively plays Lily Bloom, a Boston-based florist who falls for handsome neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, portrayed by Justin Baldoni, who also directed the film. As their relationship gets more serious, Ryle starts showing traits reminiscent of Lily's father's abusive behaviour, triggering her childhood trauma and forcing Lily to make tough decisions about her future to break a toxic pattern.

Lively, who made her directorial debut with Taylor Swift's "I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor's Version)" music video, received her first producer credit on "It Ends With Us".

"I used to feel like an impostor because I would watch actors who were just shapeshifters. And then I realized that half of the actors that I admire most are people who had to get their hands in the storytelling, the writing and the creating and I was like, oh, okay, there's two different categories and I'm in this category, and that's okay," she said.

"Once I started embracing that and leaning into it and not feeling embarrassed about it, I think I was able to do the best work. And so that's why I'm so proud of this film," she said.

Ali Fazal REVEALS the truth behind viral Vogue photoshoot with Blake Lively, Hugh Jackman: 'Anything for Baz'

Nelly’s legal team is speaking out after the rapper’s recent arrest in the St. Louis area, challenging the charges and the conduct of the arresting officer. On Wednesday, Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was taken into custody on a warrant for an old traffic violation and for alleged possession of a controlled substance. However, his attorney, Scott Rosenblum, is vigorously disputing the drug charge.

Rosenblum clarified that Nelly was not charged with drug possession, despite what was reported in the online arrest record, according to a statement given to People. "He was arrested for 'No Proof of Insurance' from 2018 on a warrant issued December 2023 that he received no notice," the attorney stated.

Rosenblum further claimed that Nelly was "targeted by an overzealous, out of line officer" after winning several jackpots at a local St. Louis casino, where the rapper is a frequent visitor.

According to Rosenblum, instead of simply overseeing the transfer of Nelly's winnings, the officer insisted on conducting a background check, citing a supposed rule requiring such checks after large casino wins. The attorney stated that Nelly knew this claim was false, as he had previously won larger amounts without incident or background check.

Upon discovering the warrant for the insurance violation, Rosenblum alleged that the officer "unnecessarily handcuffed Nelly and paraded him through the casino in front of other patrons". During the subsequent search, which Rosenblum argues lacked probable cause, the officer claimed to have found ecstasy pills among Nelly’s personal belongings.

The lawyer contended that under similar circumstances, any other individual would have been released with instructions to address the insurance issue.

Confident in Nelly's innocence, Rosenblum expressed certainty that the case would not proceed and called for an inquiry into the officer’s conduct.
Katy Perry is giving fans a sneak peek into her beauty and health regimen, revealing a surprising tool she "borrowed" from fiancé Orlando Bloom. The 39-year-old singer gave a glimpse of the items she typically carries in her purse in a recent episode of British Vogue's "In the Bag" series.

The bag had everyday essentials like lip gloss, moisturiser and some multivitamins. One of Perry's more unconventional beauty items involved her beloved lint roller, which she swears by.

"I swear by my lint roller," she said, using it to remove dust from her dress. "I will lint roll the bottom of my feet before I get into bed. Is that weird? Do we all have weird things like that? I think we do. I just shared mine with the world."

Though Perry didn’t specify when this quirky habit began, she did mention that her purse contents have evolved since welcoming her daughter Daisy with Bloom in August 2020. "I always have a snack, always have water for her. Always have, like, a little toy or something that she can play with," Perry explained.

Another essential item Perry carries is the Solawave red light therapy wand, which she admitted to stealing from Bloom, 47. "When I'm not wearing makeup, I do some skin prep. Okay, I swear by this little guy. It's called the Solawave. I stole this from Orlando's [Golden] Globes gift basket," she said, demonstrating its use.

On the work front, Perry is currently prepping for the release of her highly anticipated album, 143, set to drop on Friday, September 20.

In 1975 Kani won a Tony award with fellow performer Winston Ntshona for their New York performance of Fugard's 1972 play "Sizwe Banzi is Dead". More recently, Kani voiced the wise mandrill Rafiki in the 2019 remake of "The Lion King". He played T'Chaka in the Marvel studios superhero films "Captain America: Civil War" (2016) and "Black Panther" (2018). "His career, spanning decades, has not only shaped the landscape of South African theatre but has also brought the richness of our cultural heritage to the world," the government said in a statement. "Government and the people of South Africa celebrate this achievement with Dr Kani as his contribution has not only enriched the South African culture but has also resonated with audiences worldwide."
Lim Young-woong may not have as many fans as BTS, but the trot singer is rivalling the global superstars, showing there's more to South Korean music than K-pop with his billions of streams and a sold-out stadium tour. Once dismissed and widely ridiculed as music for pensioners, trot blends traditional Korean music with elements of Western jazz, swing and Japanese Enka.

But 33-year-old Lim is one of a fresh crop of younger artists breathing new life into the genre, with its melodramatic ballads and upbeat tunes finding massive audiences in the South, helped by a wave of reality television shows.

The original and most successful of these, "Mr Trot" was won by Lim in 2020, with more than a third of all South Korean viewers watching the final -- and his victory turned him into a nationwide sensation. His songs now have a record-breaking 10 billion streams on Melon, the South's largest music platform; his official fan club has more than 200,000 members; and his stadium tours sell out in minutes.

Lim is also South Korea's most loved singer, according to a June Gallup poll, beating out BTS, who were ranked third favourite at home. He also out-earns BTS members -- individually, not as a group -- with ticket sales for his recent tour raking in about $22 million, industry data shows.

"Domestically, articles about him generate more traffic and gain more likes than BTS," veteran entertainment journalist Seo Byung-ki told AFP, adding this was known as "Lim Young-woong syndrome". The star's moving back story -- "losing his father at a young age, growing up with the care of his grandmother, barely making a living, then winning a television show" -- coupled with his "perfect" vocals make him a surefire public hit, Seo said.

Although he's largely unknown internationally, his fame has spread to the isolated North, where music from the South is banned, but activists routinely send USB sticks full of his songs by balloons across the border. Defectors have reported he's popular.

- Elderly fans -

At a recent concert in Seoul, tens of thousands of fans, all dressed in sky blue and waving glowing electronic wands, wept as Lim appeared on stage. His fans are mostly elderly, and for many, this is their first celebrity obsession.

Baek Soon-ok, 87, had never watched a YouTube video of a celebrity or attended a concert before she discovered Lim. "He's such a kind person, good to his mother, and most of all, a great singer," she said, wearing a sky-blue T-shirt with Lim's face. "I never imagined I would like an artist as much as him," she added.

In Lim's hometown of Pocheon city, a sky-blue cafe named "Woong's Tree" doubles as a shrine to the singer. Outside, the walls and windows are adorned with photographs of Lim. Inside, an extensive collection of his merchandise is on display, alongside life-size, smiling cutouts.

Lim "saved her life", cafe owner Chun Eun-kyung told AFP, saying that when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, his music helped her endure treatment. "I listened to his song 'Wish' when I was in chemotherapy and it struck my heart," she said, adding he helped her let go of her fear of dying of cancer.

After that, she began to follow Lim wherever he performed, and along the way, she met fellow super fans -- known as Hero Generation, as his name means "hero" in Korean -- and opened the cafe to create a space for them to gather and celebrate Lim.

"He's my strength, my happiness," said another fan and cafe regular, 60-year-old Lee Bu-duk.

Trot prodigy

Although K-pop still dominates South Korea's musical exports with artists like NewJeans topping US charts, local credit card data suggests trot is growing faster domestically, with K-pop concert sales up just 34 per cent, compared to 134 per cent for trot.

And more young singers are entering the market. Lim and his "Mr Trot" appearance made Park Sung-on -- then just 12 -- realise he wanted to pursue the genre. "I think it fits the sentiment of what Koreans feel," Park told AFP of the genre.

He appeared on a later version of the "Mr Trot" show and finished in the top 10. Now hailed as a budding "trot genius", Park released his debut single in March 2023. "I don't think I'm a star.
Revealing the harrowing experience on the SHE MD podcast on Tuesday, Halsey told co-hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr Thaïs Aliabadi, "I miscarried during a concert.
The internet is full of remedies that claim to fix your acne but if you've tried a few, you'd know that hardly any of those hacks work. TikTokers are notorious for suggesting weird and sometimes completely insane quick fixes for our skin concerns. But, the Sunburning Acne trend easily takes the cake for drumrolls...The Worst Beauty Skincare Trend of 2024.

What exactly is the Sunburning Acne trend?

As the name suggests, the weird skincare trend involves sunburning your skin to the point that the acne disappears. Instead of using topical creams with salicylic acid or other acne-fighting ingredients, some TikTokers are claiming to use UV rays to diminish their acne and breakouts.

Content creator Haley Wenthold, 19, shared a video on TikTok and swore by the trend. "Telling the sun to burn off my acne," she captioned her video on TikTok, which garnered more than 1.7 million views in just a few days.

In the TikTok clip, Wenthold claimed that "the trend actually works". And, in the comment section, many others seemed to agree.

Why you shouldn't try this trend?

There are a ton of reasons why you shouldn't try this trend. First and foremost, if you have reoccurring acne, it's clear that you have sensitive skin. Repeated sun exposure can lead to sunburns, which can increase your risk of skin cancer. It can also cause premature ageing and precancerous skin lesions.

You must not go out in the sun without wearing sunscreen. Contrary to what the trend suggests, you must wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher to keep your skin protected.

Extended sun exposure can also leave your skin feeling ultra dry. At the same time, it can result in your sebaceous glands going into overdrive and resulting in excess sebum production, which is one of the key factors in the formation of blemishes. So instead of fixing your acne, it might be making it worse.

So what should you do?

Getting in touch with a dermatologist to get a proper assessment of your skin concern is recommended. If you wish to try a few remedies before going to the medical expert, try using tea tree oil as a spot treatment. If your acne is severe and nothing seems to work, your doctor may prescribe Accutane (Isotretinoin) to you. The prescription drug can only be taken under a doctor's supervision.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has officially ended and (spoiler alert) the great battle for Westeros between the Greens and Blacks hasn't started yet. Fans will sadly have to wait a few years for Season 3 to witness the Battle of the Gullet and fire-breathing dragons galore.

According to reports, the "major battle" has been moved from season 2 to season 3 because the season was shot during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. HBO, on the other hand, claims that change was "story-driven" and not the result of the extensive cost-cutting being done under Warner Bros. Discovery leadership change.

Whatever the reason may be, fans seem upset over the slow-paced season having just eight episodes and the bloodiest sea battle being pushed to the next season. Expressing his disappointment over the same, a fan wrote on X, "Wait…THAT’S IT?! We don’t even get the start of the battle of gullet? We had to watch Cole and Alicent’s boring speeches??? We had to watch Rhaena abandon those babies in the name of a wild dragon and don’t even get to see her mount it?"

Another user wrote, "Mixed feelings about the House of the Dragon finale. On one hand, it was one of my favourite episodes of the series so far. On the other hand, there’s been so much tension built up throughout the season that not releasing any of it for a 2+ year wait doesn’t really work for me."

A third commented, "House of the Dragon is just a show where everything is constantly about to happen but doesn’t actually happen. The entirety of Season 2 should have been a 3 episode arc, nothing more nothing less. And the finale was the worst finale I’ve seen."

A French magistrate has ordered film director Christophe Ruggia to stand trial on charges of sexually assaulting an actor when she was a minor, sources close to the case said on Saturday. The trial at the Paris criminal court, set for December 9 and 10, follows allegations that Ruggia sexually assaulted actor Adele Haenel in the early 2000s when he was in his mid to late 30s and she was under 15.

In a court document seen by AFP, the investigating magistrate said Haenel's accusations were "precise and consistent" and that she had suffered psychological consequences from the assaults. Potentially aggravating circumstances were the considerable age difference between Ruggia and Haenel, and the "psychological control" that the director progressively exercised over the young actor thanks to his position of authority.

Ruggia has denied all the charges against him, although the director admits to committing "errors". His lawyers declined to comment on Saturday. AFP was unable to reach Haenel's lawyers.

The accusations stunned the French film industry, which has been slower than Hollywood to react to the #MeToo movement turning the spotlight on sexual abuse in the arts. But in recent months police and investigating magistrates have turned their attention to a string of allegations.

French director accused of abusing underage actor to stand trial

Long before Joan Chen charmed Western audiences with seductive turns in "The Last Emperor" and "Twin Peaks" she was a child star in China, hand-picked for her debut movie role by Mao Zedong's wife. That remarkable personal journey, from Red Army propaganda movies to glamorous Hollywood roles directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and David Lynch, could not appear more different to Chen's character in new coming-of-age film "Didi."

Chen plays Chungsing, a Taiwanese single mom and frustrated artist in California, whose 13-year-old is too busy trying to impress his skater friends and navigate adolescent crushes to be nice to his family. Yet the role -- which is already earning Oscars buzz -- "poured out of me, because that's the life I've lived," Chen told AFP.

"I am, like Chungsing, an immigrant mother, who raised two American children -- with such an intimate, loving relationship, but also fraught with cultural chasm, misunderstanding, unmet expectations," she said. It all started for Chen, aged 14, when she was spotted by a film director who worked for Chairman Mao's wife Jiang Qing.

"The director picked me out of school, then sent my dossier and my pictures for her to approve," recalls Chen. "I was so happy that I happened to be the type that they needed. It wasn't my dream. I never thought about it, when they picked me to be an actress. And then slowly, I learned to love it."

She quickly became a beloved movie star in 1970s China -- a job that spared her from being sent to work in rural provinces during the devastating Cultural Revolution. Chen moved to the US at age 20, studying film but skeptical about her prospects as an Asian woman in Hollywood.

She landed a lead role in Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor," as the wife of China's final dynastic ruler. The film won nine Oscars, including best picture. Yet Chen, now 63, recalls: "Back then, there just weren't any Asian filmmakers or scriptwriters who could create a part for me."

"I could have been this ingenue, this breakout new lead (actress)... So that was a shame. Nothing could really follow up."

- 'Still here' -

In "Didi," out in theaters on August 16, Chen's character is a talented artist who had to forsake her ambitions for her family, in their new country. Chungsing is stoic, quietly bearing her disappointment while devoting herself to her frequently oblivious, Americanized children.

Unlike her character, Chen continued to work prolifically through parenthood, acting and directing in both the US and Asian film industries. Chen's part as femme fatale Josie Packard in "Twin Peaks" remains popular with fans of the cult TV series to this day.

But her Western roles have failed to match the success of her early career. And she still reflects on the "night and day" difference between her daughters' experience growing up in the West, and her own arrival in the United States as an immigrant, with "that uncertainty of the ground you're standing on."

"The pains and joys we see in the film is a lived experience for myself as well," said Chen. With "Didi" winning awards at the Sundance film festival, there are hints of a late-career comeback. Chen and director Sean Wang are earning mentions as dark horses for the next Academy Awards.

"I am so thrilled that young filmmakers like Sean exist... when there are enough scriptwriters, directors, then you create more parts for people who look like them," she said. "It's wonderful. And I'm so happy that I'm still here."

Vedang Raina and Khushi Kapoor ignited romance rumours as they walked the ramp together at India Couture Week 2024 and turned showstoppers for Gaurav Gupta's latest collection, Arunodaya, presented on Monday (Jul 29). Janhvi Kapoor's sister Khushi looked every bit stunning in a svelte nutty ivory number, featuring silver embroidery and a mermaid-cut hemline. Vedang, on the other hand, wore an all-black bandhgala, which perfectly complimented Khushi's ethnic ensemble as they walked the ramp together. Check out the clip below!
