Trump asks aides to hire Laura Loomer, an anti-Muslim, for campaign role

Samvardhinee Nyas, an affiliate of the RSS, has started a campaign titled 'Garbha Sanskar' for pregnant women to teach babies culture and values in the womb, its national organising secretary Madhuri Marathe said on Monday.

Along with gynaecologists, ayurvedic doctors and yoga trainers, the Nyas is planning a programme which will comprise chanting of the Gita, the Ramayana and yoga practice during pregnancy to "impart cultural values to babies in the womb."

This programme, which will start during pregnancy and continue till babies reach two years of age, will emphasise on chanting of Gita shlokas and chaupais of the Ramayana, said Marathe, adding, "a baby in the womb can learn up to 500 words."

"The aim and objective of this campaign is to develop a programme which ensures that the baby can learn sanskar (culture and values) in womb and the process continues till the baby gets two years old," Marathe said.

Samvardhinee Nyas, a wing of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, the women's arm of the RSS, is planning to reach out to at least 1,000 women under this campaign, she said.

As part of the campaign, the Nyas on Sunday held a workshop at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, which was attended by several gynaecologists, including from AIIMS-Delhi, she added.

The initiative has found backing among doctors who feel that the concept holds promise but should not be limited to just listening to Indian epics and needs to complimented by good nutrition.

Dr Pankaj Sarode, a senior consultant gynaecologist and owner of Cradle Hospital in Pune, said Garbha Sanskar is a fascinating concept and is backed by the famous story of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharat.

It is a stream of ancient "observational science" which deals with the maternal behaviour and thought process to achieve optimum human potential by the unborn child, he said, adding that there are thousands of expectant mothers who are following "smartly marketed" garbha sanskar classes at present as well.

"As an expert in gynaecology, a science dealing with pregnancy and birthing, I think it definitely holds some promise. But the concept should not be limited to just listening to mythological stories and good music," Dr Sarode said.

"It needs to be extended to good nutrition, good thought and good behaviour and much more. It is scientifically proven that nutrition during pregnancy makes long-lasting effects on an individual's health in later life known as 'fetal origin of adult diseases'," Dr Sarode explained.

Similarly a mother's thinking can make a difference in the unborn baby's health by manipulating hormonal milleu, the doctor said.

"Whether an unborn baby learns cognitive behaviour or not is a topic open for research," Dr Sarode added.

Dr Ritu Sethi, senior consultant, gynaecology, Cloud Nine Hospital in Sector 14 Gurgaon, said Garbha Sanskar is a very known technique in which values are imparted to the growing fetus by the mother.

"Now, this basically means that the growing fetus has emotions, is able to respond to the surroundings, and is able to connect, pick-up values which the mother is imparting to the growing baby to become a good, responsible citizen, emotionally connected to parents because the thought process of the mother is to a large extent responsible for the mental development of the baby," she said.

So how can a mother impart good values to the growing fetus?

"This is by eating a well-balanced, nourishing diet, listening to soothing music, remaining in a stress-free environment, having positive thoughts, by having positive thoughts, by doing yoga, meditation and remaining stress-free and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, doing exercise," Dr Sethi said.

To commemorate the 100 days countdown campaign to the International Day of Yoga, 2022, the Saudi Yoga Committee announced the launch of 81 days yoga awareness program in Saudi Arabia.

The announcement was made by Nouf Al- Marawaai, president of Saudi Yoga Committee, after taking part at the virtual opening event held on April 1, announcing the beginning of the 100 days countdown campaign organised by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush with the participation of 100 international countries.

The event was held to give a wider promotion and publicity to various dimensions of yoga and also to promote the 100 days countdown campaign to IDY-2022 under the theme “Health, Well-being and World Peace”.

The virtual meeting witnessed an opening speech by Al-Marwaai and then by the Director of MDNIY Dr Ishwar Basavaraddi.

Later the meeting featured health yoga protocol, yoga class with Fisal Alawaji, vinvasa yoga class with Samah Diab, Pranyama with Bhola Shanker, and meditation class with Bhola Shanker from The Himalayan Meditation Tradition.

In her speech, the president of the Saudi Yoga Committee said: “We are honoured to be part of Yoga Mahotsav 2022 and the 100 days countdown campaign of the International Day of Yoga 2022. As we prepare to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, it is very important to highlight yoga’s message for health, well-being and world peace. With today’s challenges around the world, yoga promotion is needed the most.”

She stressed that the practice of yoga is expanding remarkably in the kingdom due to its importance in physical health, and its trainers and practitioners are spread in thousands in every part of the country.

'No to military rule': Sudan's security forces fire tear gas during anti-coup campaign by teachers

India is set to cross&nbsp;an important milestone of administering a billion vaccine doses by the third week of October. After this, the nation will take a call on the resumption of export&nbsp;of locally-made vaccines against the deadly coronavirus, said Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya.&nbsp;

As of Thursday, total vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 970 million. 73 per cent of all adults have received at least the first vaccine dose, and 30 per cent having been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, said the health minister.

India is yet to start vaccinations of those under the age of 18. Another vaccine for those in the 12-18 age group, ZyCoV-D was approved on August 20.

In order to mark the occasion, public announcements at airports, railways stations, shipping ports, bus stations and metro rails will be made as&nbsp;India administers a billion COVID-19 vaccine doses.

As the biggest vaccination campaign in history is underway worldwide,&nbsp;more than 6.66 billion doses have been administered across 184 countries.

As of now, only China has administered more vaccine doses than India as of&nbsp;October 10.&nbsp;China had administered about 2.22 billion doses of the coronavirus vaccine.&nbsp;

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has intensified its drive to combat dengue, and a new awareness campaign via radio stations will be set in motion from Monday, officials said.

Over 480 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital this season, including more than 140 in October, according to data shared by civic bodies.

Over 80 cases of dengue, 20 of malaria and two of chikungunya have been logged in areas falling under the EDMC's jurisdiction.

"We have intensified our anti-dengue drive as large number of cases are being recorded due to excessive rains this year. A radio campaign is ready. It will carry the message of precautions to be taken at home to ward off any possibility of breeding of mosquito larvae at home," East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sunder Aggarwal told PTI.

Besides, our dengue breeding checking (DBC) staff are going from house to house to check any breeding of dengue mosquitoes to prevent its spread, he said, and claimed that the staff has visited nearly 40 lakh households till date.

Dengue mosquito larvae breed in clear, standing water, while those of malaria thrive even in dirty water.

Cases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November, but the period may stretch till mid-December.

A senior official said a message in the voice of the mayor on precautions to be taken at home has been already recorded, and the EDMC has partnered with multiple private radio stations which will play it to raise awareness.

"The radio campaign is ready, and it will be launched tomorrow. People will get to hear the message on the airwaves either from tomorrow or the day after," he said.

Aggarwal said as part of the EDMC's intensive drive to combat dengue, fogging and disinfection exercise have been carried out at various police stations.

Of the total count of dengue cases in Delhi this year, nearly 140 have been reported this month till October 9. However, no deaths have been reported due to dengue in the city this year till now.

In September this season, 217 cases were logged in the city, the highest for this month in the last three years.

Last year, 188 dengue cases were reported in September, and 190 in 2019. In preceding years, the corresponding figures were 374 (2018), 1,103 (2017), 1,362 (2016) and 6,775 (2015), according to data shared by Delhi health department on September 22.

The month-wise distribution of dengue cases reported this year -- January (0), February (2), March (5), April (10) and May (12), June (7), July (16) and August (72).

According to the civic report on vector-borne diseases released on Monday, a total of 480 dengue cases have been recorded this season till October 9, which was the highest since 2018 for the same period.
