Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a debate over the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) and exuded confidence saying that Gandhi would be defeated even by an ordinary worker of the BJP.

"Anywhere in the country, even our ordinary party worker is ready to debate on this issue and can defeat Rahul Gandhi as he does not have any knowledge about CAA and NRC," the Minister of State (MoS) for Home said challenging the Congress MP from Wayanad.

Further supporting the Uttar Pradesh government's move of seizing the property of those who participated in violence and arson during the anti-CAA and NRC protests, he said, "The rule to seize the property of rioters is correct and should be implemented all across the country."

Reddy also slammed Congress over the allegations of a lapse in security and manhandling with its general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Uttar Pradesh. He asserted that the Congress' method of time and again raising questions about their leaders' security is not correct. "Security to all the officials and ordinary people of the nation is our responsibility," he said.

Earlier today, days after Vadra alleged breach of protocol by the UP Police in Lucknow, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said that there was "no breach in security" on their part as she was supposed to visit only Pradesh Congress Committee office according to her tour programme.

"Tour programme of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Z+ Category Central Category (CRPF Protectee) to visit Lucknow on 27-28 December was received and communicated to state authorities.

On December 28, the only programme indicated was to visit PCC office for attending Congress foundation function for which ASL had been conducted," said CRPF in a statement.

The roads in front of DMK leaders homes are now sporting a new look, it has got nothing to do with the year-end, but it is in protest against the contentious CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act).

The homes of late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, his son MK Stalin (DMK Chief) and his daughter Kanimozhi(Lok Sabha MP) have had Kolams (rangolis) adorning the areas outside their gates. However, the traditional Kolam also had messages of protest against the CAA and NRC- they read “NO CAA - NO NRC.”

While kolam is a traditional form of drawing done on the front porch of one's home, every morning using rice flour or chalk powder, it had taken on a different dimension, as a symbol of protest on Sunday.

According to activists, 6 women were detained in a community hall on Sunday morning by J5 Shastri Nagar Police for drawing anti-CAA kola’s in the upscale Besant nagar locality. Three advocates who had gone to get the women released were also said to be detained by the police. They were released later in the day.

Police have maintained that the protesters had informed them that they wanted to draw kolams with anti-CAA/NRC messages near the Besant Nagar bus terminus between 7 am and 10 am. But the permission for the same was not granted.

Cases were registered under Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against the group.

Reacting to Sunday’s incident, MK Stalin tweeted, “This is a clear example that the authoritarianism of the AIADMK is increasing day by day.” He added that the detention of the women was in violation of their right to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the fundamental rights of the Constitution. He demanded that the case against them be withdrawn.

The DMK has rallied together with the Left outfits and other small parties here in their fight against the CAA and in expressing solidarity with those that have been raising their voices against the contentious bill.

The DMK and the Congress in Tamil Nadu have raised questions over why the CAA ignores the plight of Tamils who are a persecuted minority in Sri Lanka, while it considers minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The DMK had staged a protest in Chennai and nearby districts over two weeks ago and later conducted an anti-CAA rally in Chennai along with their allies and like-minded parties. DMK President Stalin had asserted that their protests would continue until the Central government revoked the CAA.

However, the Central government and Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK government have repeatedly insisted that the CAA does not affect Indian citizens, adding that people must not pay attention to the rumours being spread to foment trouble.

Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 3’ has not been able to dominate the box office as the leading star of Bollywood would expect it to be but he has no qualms about it.

Recently talking about the medium income that the film has earned since December 20 when it released in the theatres, Salman Khan reflected that these are “troubled times” as he said, “In such troubled times (for the film) to do well is remarkable. All the credit goes to fans. And fans have been very loyal to me and they have gone (to see the film).

He added, “In North India, section 144 was imposed and so those collections have not come. But they will go and see the film. I mean, first, it is their security and then comes Dabangg 3. In other states, we have done pretty well.”

There have been nationwide protests for over a week now in India against the Citizenship Amendment Act. People have flooded the streets ever since the Act was passed in the Indian parliament with people calling it “discriminatory towards one particular religion”.

‘Dabangg 3’ has so far collected more than Rs 90 crores in over four days of it running on the theatres. It features Sonakshi Sinha and debutant Saiee Manjrekar who play important roles. Arbaaz Khan also features in the film. This is how much it collected in three days.

Salman has been happy with the overall response to the third film from the franchise. He said, “Because of Dabangg one, came two and now three, which is one of the better films. It is bigger, larger and there is more to say in this film. Sudeep is appreciated, the husband-wife bond is stronger, his back story, the innocence of how he became Chulbul Pandey. There was lot more to say in this film.”

“We have touched upon so many things like child marriage, dowry, water conservation. The whole film is on this plot that if you love someone but if they don’t, then will you rape them, throw acid or kill them?” added the actor.

Salman is not the first actor from ‘Dabangg 3’ to comment on the ongoing protests in the country that have translated to average collections for their film as Sonakshi Sinha too said, “CAA protest is more important than 'Dabangg 3' right now.”

"What gives you the right to burn buses, trains and create ruckus in the country? A bus costs around Rs 70-80 lakh and that is not a small amount," the actress had said.

"We`re still hooked to the pre-Independence era, where our country was under siege or bondage, and people had captured us by force or the gun. Going on strikes, shutting down the country or not paying taxes against those people was considered cool,"Kangana had added.

Giving her a lesson in basic economics, the Delhi Finance Minister explained to her that even a daily wage earner has to pay indirect taxes, if not direct.

In a series of tweets, Sisodia said, "Violence and damage to public property is wrong in every situation, it is against both humanity and law. ..But this country is not dependent on tax of only 3 per cent people. Every person in the country pays a tax, from a daily wage worker, even a daily wage labourer to a billionaire."

Hours later, Kangana's sister and her spokesperson Rangoli Chandel hit back Sisodia on Twitter asking him to not twist her statement.

"Sir (addressing Sisodia) ji Kangana is clearly talking about income tax here, please don`t twist her statements either way please don`t burn public property. On being asked why Bollywood has chosen to stay quiet on the oingoing CAA protest, Sonakshi said “I think whoever wants to voice (an opinion) will voice, and whoever doesn’t want, will not. After all, that is also their right.”

CAA protests: Bar Council of India passes resolution, appeals for peace and harmony

The diverse and the motley crowd protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) have no idea what these terminologies are all about and their bizarre explanation ranges from "freeing Lalu Yadav from Jail" and terming CAA/NRC a "machine which produces Indian citizens".

The protesters rallying at the "Bihar-Bandh" call given by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) against the new law and proposed NRC, also said that the protest is against the rape of girls, and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

The crowd also consisted of children who were only sloganeering but drew a blank when asked what CAA and NRC are all about. However, when asked again, they started derogatory words on the top of their voices.

"We are protesting because Mahatma Gandhi was murdered. Godse (Nathuram Godse) murdered him. This government supports those who murdered Mahatma Gandhi," said a protester.

Another group of protesters said that they are protesting to free RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav from Jail and to install RJD government in the state.

"We are protesting because we want Lalu Prasad out of the Jail. We want RJD government to rule the state," said one among them.

While another protester who claims to be an RJD leader said he is protesting because girls are being raped and are set ablaze in Bihar.

"I am protesting because my supporters have garlanded me with 'Mala'. I am protesting because girls are being raped, women are being raped and are set ablaze in Bihar," said Nand Kishore Mandal who claims that he is a local RJD leader.

However, the most bizarre argument is of a person who said that CAA/NRC is a kind of machine that gives citizenship.

"CAA/NRC is the machine. These machines produce Indian citizens, they give citizenship," he said.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

The Act grants Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
