Democratic US&nbsp;vice presidential candidate&nbsp;Kamala&nbsp;Harris&nbsp;said on Monday that the country has&nbsp;two systems of justice for Black and White Americans.

The strong criticism from Harris, the first Black and Indian-American woman on a major party vice presidential ticket came after President Donald Trump and his Attorney General denied there is systemic racism in the country's justice system.

Democratic Party's presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Harris are challenging incumbent President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence of the Republican Party in the November 3 election.

Harris, 55, strongly criticised President Trump and Attorney General William Barr for denying there is systemic racism in the US justice system, saying they are "spending full time in a different reality."

"The reality of America today is what we have seen over generations and, frankly, since our inception, which is, we do have two systems of justice in America," Harris said an interview.

But she said she was optimistic that as a nation, Americans hold dear to an ideal that is inscribed in marble on the Supreme Court, which is that ideal of equal justice under law.

"And so, while we have two systems of justice, we also fight for equal justice under law. And that means doing what Joe Biden and I are proposing, which is having a criminal justice system that, yes, bans choke holds and carotid holds, make sure that we're going to require accountability for police officers who break the rules and break the law."

Harris said their administration would invest in communities and the economic strength of those communities, but doing it all recognising that there are huge disparities in the country based on race.

"And it does us no good if we want to solve those disparities to pretend they don't exist," she said.

Harris also suggested that President Trump was not a "real leader" on racial justice and was trying to "pretend that he has been a leader" on the coronavirus pandemic.

"I don't think that most reasonable people who are paying attention to the facts would dispute that there are racial disparities and a system that has engaged in racism in terms of how the laws have been enforced," said Harris, a California senator and former state attorney general.

"It does us no good to deny that. Let's just deal with it. Let's be honest. These might be difficult conversations for some, but they're not difficult conversations for leaders, not for real leaders."

Barr, America's top law enforcement official, dismissed the idea of "two justice systems" told CNN on Wednesday. "I think we have to be a little careful about throwing the idea of racism around," he said. "I don't think it is as common as people suggest."

Asked specifically about systemic racism during his visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin, last week, Trump refused to acknowledge it, saying, "Well, you know, you just keep getting back to the opposite subject. We should talk about the kind of violence we've seen in Portland and here and other places."

Protests against racial injustice, particularly in law enforcement, have swept across America as police violence against Black Americans,&nbsp;including George Floyd in Minneapolis, Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Daniel Prude in Rochester, New York,&nbsp;has dominated headlines in recent months.

"I'm very clear that we have got to in America re-imagine how we are accomplishing public safety," Harris - the child of immigrants from India and Jamaica - said.

"If we want to create safe communities, one of the smartest ways we can do that is invest in the health of those communities, because healthy communities are safe communities," Harris said.

"There is no vaccine for racism," she had said in her acceptance speech last month and criticised Trump for turing "our tragedies into political weapons," she said.

"Donald Trump's failure has cost lives and livelihoods," Harris had said, referring to the racing tensions and the coronavirus pandemic that has severely hit the country.

Meanwhile, Harris on Monday tweeted that ''President Trump keeps saying the US economy is improving, but the truth is, only the wealthiest are reaping the benefits.''

Jacob Blake, the young black man shot in the back multiple times by a white police officer in Wisconsin, said "it hurts to breathe" and that he was in constant pain in a video message from his hospital bed.

The 29-year-old was gravely wounded when a policeman fired seven or eight shots at him as he tried to get into his car on August 23 in Kenosha, in the Midwestern state of Wisconsin. Three of his children were in the car at the time.

The scene was filmed by bystanders and the two police officers who were trying to stop or arrest Blake have been suspended.

Despite his injuries, which will likely leave him paralysed from the waist down, Blake told his supporters "there's a lot more life to live."

"Your life, and not only just your life, your legs -- something that you need to move around and forward in life -- can be taken from you like this, man," Blake said, snapping his fingers, in the video released Saturday by his lawyer Ben Crump.

Wearing a hospital gown, Blake said he had staples in his back and stomach.

"Twenty-four hours, every 24 hours it's pain, it's nothing but pain," he said.

"It hurts to breathe, it hurts to sleep, it hurts to move from side-to-side, it hurts to eat," he said in the video, which has more than 400,000 views on Twitter.

"Please, I'm telling you, change your lives out there. We can stick together, make some money, make everything easier for our people out there, man, because there's so much time that's been wasted."

Coming three months after the death of George Floyd, Blake's shooting has touched off a new round of demonstrations in several cities.

Protests in Kenosha began peacefully the night Blake was shot, but descended into violence for several nights running.

It culminated August 25 when two people were shot dead. A 17-year-old white Trump supporter has been arrested and charged with murder.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke with Blake by phone on Thursday and met with his family.

Police declared the rally in Portland a "riot" after protesters hurled Molotov cocktails at them, and they responded with a barrage of tear gas to disperse the crowd, on Saturday.

Police arrested dozens of people as the western US city marked 100 days since Black Lives Matter protests erupted against racism and police brutality.

At least one person was injured by the fire bombs, police said.

Officers arrested dozens of protesters in an ensuing game of cat-and-mouse through a residential district of east Portland.

Police said people were "engaging in tumultuous and violent conduct thereby intentionally or recklessly creating a grave risk of causing public alarm."

"This is a riot. Police are giving announcements to disperse. People are throwing Molotov cocktails," Portland Police said on Twitter.

The nightly protests were sparked by the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis in May.

Floyd's death triggered similar protests nationwide, but it is in Portland -- a city of 650,000 that is more than 70 percent white -- that activists have remained on the streets practically every night, demanding racial justice and police accountability.

President Donald Trump has cast the city as being under siege by "thugs" engaged in "domestic terrorism," though the demonstrations have been peaceful for the most part.

Tensions escalated again last weekend after a man identified as a supporter of a right-wing group was shot and killed.

Earlier Saturday, hundreds of people gathered in a park near Portland in a memorial for Aaron "Jay" Danielson, a supporter of the far-right group Patriot Prayer.

The 39-year-old was fatally shot after he joined pro-Trump supporters who descended on Portland, sparking confrontations with Black Lives Matter counter-protesters.

The suspect in the shooting, Michael Reinoehl, 48, was killed in neighbouring Washington state as police tried to arrest him.

The circumstances of Danielson's death are still under investigation but Reinoehl appeared to acknowledge shooting him in an interview with Vice News.

Portland police made multiple arrests on Friday as the Oregon city nears 100 days of demonstrations against widespread racism and police brutality in the United States.

Portland has become the epicenter of demonstrations, with protests taking place nightly over the last three months calling for policing and social justice reforms. These protests have sometimes turned violent.

Police arrested 27 people, mostly on charges of interfering with law enforcement or disorderly conduct after not complying with orders to clear the area where they assembled and throwing items at officers.

"Officers began to make targetted arrests and in some cases moved the crowd back and kept them out of the street," according to a press released issued on Saturday.

Demonstrations against racism and police brutality have swept the United States since the death in May of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

In Rochester, New York on Friday night nearly 1,000 demonstrators marched downtown to protest the March death of black man Daniel Prude in police custody. Police used pepper balls to clear protesters during protests the night before, according to local news reports.

Police shot and killed a self-declared anti-fascist activist in Washington state on Thursday night as they moved in to arrest him on suspicion he fatally shot a right-wing counterprotester last weekend in Portland.

The Trump administration deployed federal forces to Portland in July to crack down on the protests. Trump signed a memo on Wednesday that threatens to cut federal funding to "lawless" cities, including Portland.

His Democratic challenger in the Nov. 3 presidential election, Joe Biden, has accused Trump of stoking violence with his rhetoric.

Amid growing concerns of unjust violence towards the African-American community in the United States by the local police, the US President Donald Trump has decided to end anti-racism training sessions in the government agencies and federal government.

The reason behind Trump's decision is simply that he feels this training is yet another "un-American propaganda".

The order was announced by the White House on Friday.&nbsp;

"According to press reports, employees across the Executive Branch have been required to attend trainings where they are told that 'virtually all White people contribute to racism' or where they are required to say that they 'benefit from racism'," a statement from the WHite House read.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/biden-and-trump-are-in-a-race-against-time-towards-creating-controversies-325293">Also read:&nbsp;Biden and Trump are in a race against time towards creating controversies</a>

"According to press reports, in some cases these trainings have further claimed that there is racism embedded in the belief that America is the land of opportunity or the belief that the most qualified person should receive a job," the statement read.

The order has come at a time when the US is already burning by clash of police against the people standing in solidarity with the African-American community in the US, who have been tortured by the local police on numerous incidents — some of which led to death of the victims. Recent cases have been George Floyd and Jacob Blake who were violently attacked by the state police even when they were unarmed, leading to Geroge Floyd's death and Blake being admitted in hospital for serious injuries.

The decision was announced less than 60 days before Americans vote for their next Preisdent — a race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Trump is targeting the White and South Asian communities as his voter base.

In addition to believing that these are "un-American" policies, the White House&nbsp;Office of Management and Budget has also been ordered to&nbsp; "ensure that Federal agencies cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars to fund these divisive, un-American propaganda training sessions."

The decision has been widely criticised by the masses.&nbsp;

The mayor of New York's third largest city has suspended seven police officers involved in the suffocation death of Daniel Prude last March.

Prude, a 41-year-old Black man known to his Chicago-based family as ''Rell,''&nbsp;died on March 30 when his family took him off life support, seven days after officers who encountered him running naked through the street put a hood over his head to stop him from spitting, then held him down for about two minutes until he stopped breathing.

Two days ago when Trump visited the city, he did not meet Blake's family as reportedly the family wanted their lawyer to be present at the meeting, but Trump found the request to be very&nbsp;"inappropriate".

"I thought it would be better not to do anything where there are lawyers involved. They wanted to have lawyers involved and I thought that was inappropriate so I didn't do that, but I did speak with the pastor -- was a fine man, wonderful man -- and I think we had a great talk, and I may at some point do that, but they did have a lawyer that wanted to be on the phone and I said no, that's inappropriate but I gave my best regards," Trump had said during his briefing.

A Black cyclist was fatally shot by&nbsp;Los&nbsp;Angeles&nbsp;County police, the latest instance of police killing a Black man, as the county Sheriff's Department and a lawyer representing the man's family gave diverging accounts of the shooting on Tuesday.

The cyclist, 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee, was shot more than 20 times in the back after two sheriff's deputies tried to stop him for a bicycle code violation, said Benjamin Crump, who said he is representing Kizzee's family.

The&nbsp;Los&nbsp;Angeles&nbsp;Sheriff's Department said Kizzee, whose identity was confirmed by the county Medical Examiner-Coroner, was shot fewer than 20 times.

The killing renewed protests in the city by demonstrators angered at deadly violence against Black people by police departments around the country.

Kizzee was riding his bike on Monday afternoon in&nbsp;Los&nbsp;Angeles&nbsp;County's Westmont neighborhood when two sheriff's deputies who had been driving by tried to stop him.

Kizzee abandoned his bike and ran for a block with the deputies in pursuit, Brandon Dean, a sheriff's department spokesman, told reporters on Monday evening. Kizzee then punched one of the deputies in the face, dropping a bundle of clothing he had been carrying, the department said.

The deputies said a semi-automatic handgun was in the dropped bundle, and both of them began shooting Kizzee, the department said.

Dean said he did not know what part of the bicycle code Kizzee was suspected to have violated or how many times the deputies shot him, other than saying it was fewer than 20. His office declined to answer questions about the shooting and the status of the two deputies on Tuesday.

The county's coroner was due to conduct an autopsy on Kizzee on Tuesday.

However, Crump, a civil rights lawyers known for representing Black victims of police violence around the country, in a Twitter post, said: "They say he ran, dropped clothes and handgun. He didn't pick it up, but cops shot him in the back 20+ times then left him for hours."

Crump asked on Twitter for people to send him any videos of the incident, saying that sheriff's deputies are not required to wear body cameras.

Angry demonstrators faced off with deputies outside a sheriff's department building on Monday evening, and a march was planned for Tuesday from the site of the shooting to the department building.

A roundtable event was held in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday to discuss about the police violence that has led to deaths of several unarmed African-American people in the US.

However, the only African-Americans present in the room were also not given enough chances to speak their minds, courtesy the US President Donald Trump.

The roundtable was organised for a discussion on public safety, and the two African-American pastors were the only ones from the community&nbsp;seated at the dais. the two pastors,&nbsp;James Ward and Sharon Ward, were there to represent&nbsp;Julia Jackson, the mother of Jacob Blake — the Black man who was shot&nbsp;seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer.

The pastors were asked by reporters if they believed that police violence was systemic. When the question was clearly directed towards the Wards, Trump waste no second in answering for them, without any intimation, and said, "I don't believe that. I think the police do an incredible job and I think you do have some bad apples."

"You do have the other situation, too, where they're under tremendous pressure and they don't handle it well. They call it choking and it happens," he added.

During the discussion, he also stated that he has had several interactions with the US police and those interactions were enough evidence for him to understand that the US police was not unjustly violent towards the African-American community, and that the police violence was not a systematic issue.&nbsp;

Trump was also asked if he thought racism, in general, was a systemic problem, with the reporters putting forth examples of non-violent and peaceful protests. However, trump was quick to dismiss those by saying,&nbsp;"Well, you know you just keep getting back to the opposite subject. We should talk about the kind of violence we've seen in Portland and here and other places."

'Police did an incredible job': Trump cuts off Black pastors when asked about police violence

After a massive civil unrest in the&nbsp;Wisconsin city over shooting of another Black man by the US Police, the US President Donald Trump visited the city to meet the "hurting Americans". However, the President did not meet the man who was shot, or even his family.

Trump travelled to Kenosha, Wisconsin without paying heed to several Democratic leaders who had urged the President not to visit the city while the city was observing protests after an African-American man Jacob Blake was shot seven times at point blank range in the back by the local police.

According to press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, "currently the plans are to meet with local law enforcement and some business owners and he'll survey the damage."

However, the President completely ignored the grieving family and did not pay the family a visit. McEnany, on being questioned about this, said, "The president wants to visit hurting Americans."

The President was repeatedly urged by the Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Mayor John Antaramian to not visit Kenosha, but the President decided to ignore the requests.

"No, because that -- Kenosha is something we did a good job on," Trump said when asked if he even considered the requests. "But I have to see the people that did such a good job for me and we are meeting with numerous people and we have tremendous support in the state of Wisconsin so I promise them when it all gets taken care of, we'll go."

The reason the visit was being objected to was that the local leaders and authorities felt his presence in the city could fuel violence and increase the tensions in the already-burning city. However, Trump said,&nbsp;"It will also increase enthusiasm and it could increase love and respect for our country, and that's why I am going because they did a fantastic job."

Tony Evers, however, said Trump's visit will redirect the resources "at a time when it is critical that we continue to remain focused on keeping the people of Kenosha safe and supporting the community's response."

"I am&nbsp;concerned your presence will only hinder our healing," he continued.

When asked why Trump has not reached out to the Blake family yet, Trump claimed that the family wanted lawyers to be present and he felt that was "inappropriate".

I thought it would be better not to do anything where there are lawyers involved. They wanted to have lawyers involved and I thought that was inappropriate so I didn't do that, but I did speak with the pastor -- was a fine man, wonderful man -- and I think we had a great talk, and I may at some point do that, but they did have a lawyer that wanted to be on the phone and I said no, that's inappropriate but I gave my best regards," Trump said.

Family's lawyer, Benjamin Crump, on this claim said,&nbsp;"When President Obama called Trayvon and Michael Brown's family, when Vice President Biden called George Floyd's family, their attorneys were present. We don't understand why it would be an issue with Trump's administration, and furthermore last time I checked they had a DOJ investigation that had been started in this matter, so it would be totally appropriate for family to have counsel on the phone," Crump said.

"They (White House) have their attorneys. Why shouldn't the family have their attorneys?" he continued.

Blake's family, too, has taken a step back and expressed their views on Trump not visiting the family.&nbsp;"Our family don't particularly want to have anything to do with him," Justin Blake, victim's uncle said. "We believe he incited this violence."

Defending the gunman

During a media briefing, he also defended the actions of a 17-year-old boy who had opened fire during the protests.&nbsp;“He was trying to get away from them ... And then he fell and then they very violently attacked him,” Trump said at a briefing. “I guess he was in very big trouble ... He probably would have been killed.”

On the third night of protests, Kyle Rittenhouse,&nbsp;shot three protesters, two fatally, with an assault rifle.&nbsp; He has been charged as an adult, although he is 17-year-old, with two counts of first-degree homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

“In America, we will never surrender to mob rule, because if the mob rules, democracy is indeed dead,” Trump added.

Joe Biden, Trump's opponent in the upcoming November 3 Presidential elections protested against Trump's statement, and said,&nbsp;“Tonight, the president declined to rebuke violence. He wouldn’t even repudiate one of his supporters who is charged with murder because of his attacks on others. He is too weak, too scared of the hatred he has stirred to put an end to it."

McDonald's Corp has been sued by 52 Black former franchise owners who accuse the fast-food giant of racial discrimination by steering them to depressed, crime-ridden neighborhoods and setting them up for failure.

In a complaint seeking up to $1 billion of damages, the plaintiffs said McDonald's has not offered profitable restaurant locations and growth opportunities to Black franchisees on the same terms as white franchisees, belying its public commitment to diversity and Black entrepreneurship.

In a statement on early on Tuesday, McDonald's denied the charges that the franchisees were unable to succeed due to discrimination.

"We are confident that the facts will show how committed we are to the diversity and equal opportunity of the McDonald's System, including across our franchisees, suppliers and employees", the statement added.&nbsp;

The complaint said McDonald's saddled the plaintiffs under its standard 20-year franchise agreements with stores requiring high security and insurance costs, and whose $2 million average annual sales from 2011 to 2016 were $700,000 below the nationwide norm. Bankruptcy often resulted, they said.

"It's systematic placement in substandard locations, because they're Black," the plaintiffs' lawyer Jim Ferraro said in a phone interview. "Revenue at McDonald's is governed by one thing only: location."

The plaintiffs are suing in Chicago federal court five weeks after McDonald's updated its corporate values, pledging a greater focus on diversity.

Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski told CNBC in June that diversity was "critically important" and needed to touch "every single aspect" of its business.

He also defended McDonald's record, saying the Chicago-based company had "created more millionaires within the Black community than probably any other corporation on the planet, but there's still work to do."

Ferraro called that claim "total hogwash," saying the number of Black franchisees has fallen to 186 from 377 since 1998.

More than 90% of McDonald's 14,400 U.S. restaurants were recently operated by about 1,600 franchisees.

The company updated its values before suing ousted Chief Executive Steve Easterbrook to recoup his estimated $41.8 million severance package for allegedly concealing improper sexual relationships with three employees.

Easterbrook said the lawsuit is "meritless."

More than 90% of McDonald's 14,400 U.S. restaurants were recently operated by about 1,600 franchisees. Democrats have accused US President Donald Trump of trying to inflame racial tensions to benefit his campaign as he praised supporters who clashed with protesters in Portland, Oregon.

Violence and protests have been a regular feature in Portland ever since Black Lives Matter -- in support of George Floyd, a Black man who was killed due to the brutality of police on May 25.

On Sunday, one man -- identified as a supporter of a right-wing group -- was shot and killed in Portland when a large caravan of Trump's supporters and Black Lives Matter protesters clashed in the city's streets.

Despite this, Trump praised the caravan participants as "GREAT PATRIOTS!" and blamed the city's Democratic mayor for the death.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has asked a judge to dismiss murder charges against him in the death of&nbsp;George Floyd.

According to the court papers submitted by Chauvin's attorney on Friday,&nbsp;there is not probable cause to support charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. They&nbsp;argued&nbsp;that Floyd's&nbsp;alleged drug use, not the improper use of force by the officer, was to blame for his death.

Prosecutors are seeking stiffer-than-usual sentences for four former US police officers charged over the killing of George Floyd, arguing that they showed "particular cruelty" to the handcuffed African American.

The 46-year-old resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota died in May after being pinned to the pavement under the knee of white officer Derek Chauvin as Floyd gasped that he could not breathe.

Court papers filed Friday in the Floyd case indicate that the Minnesota attorney general's office will argue there were a number of aggravating factors.

These include evidence that Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes as bystanders, including multiple children, pleaded for his life and then watched him die.

"George Floyd, the victim, was particularly vulnerable because officers had already handcuffed him behind his back and then placed him chest down on the pavement, and Mr. Floyd clearly and repeatedly told the officers he could not breathe," the court documents state.

Chauvin inflicted "particular cruelty," as well as "gratuitous pain" as he abused his position of authority, prosecutors allege.

A Black man was freed from a US prison after serving 44 years for a crime he maintains he didn't commit.

Ronnie Long, now 64, was accused of raping a White woman. He walked out of the North Carolina prison on Thursday, and credited his advocates and loved ones for persevering through the long legal battle.

An all-White jury found him guilty of rape and burglary in 1976 and him sentenced to life in prison. His conviction was vacated Thursday after the state of North Carolina filed a motion in federal court seeking to do so.

The evidence, which included semen samples and fingerprints from the crime scene that did not match Long, was deliberately withheld by law enforcement, US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Stephanie Thacker said in the filing.

The withholding of evidence meant that Long was already facing an unfair trial, Long's attorney, Jamie Lau said. But the racial dynamics at the time also worked against him.

Long was accused of raping a 54-year old White woman in Concord, North Carolina, on April 25, 1976. She reported that a perpetrator attacked her in her home, assaulted her and fled, according to the court filing.

The case was tried by an all-White jury. Every witness for the prosecution was White, while every witness for the defense was Black, Lau said.

A video has emerged showing a Black man in San Antonio of the US being stopped and detained by police while he was jogging. The arrested man has been identified in a police report as Mathias Ometu.

The Tuesday incident ensued as officers searched for a suspect in a nearby domestic violence call.

Video of the incident posted to social media shows officers forcefully shoving the man into a police vehicle as he screams.

Officers stopped the 33-year old and told him they had "reasonable suspicion to believe" he "matched the description of an alleged strangulation family violence incident," the police report said.

The report added Ometu refused to give his name and date of birth after several requests and his "demeanour became aggressive."

During the incident, Ometu allegedly kicked two officers, striking one in the face, the police report said.

The victim of the family violence incident met officers and said Ometu was not the suspect.

He was then arrested and charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, a statement from the San Antonio Police Department said.

However, bystanders who witnessed the arrest and filmed the interaction between Ometu and police, told CNN that Ometu did not seem aggressive or confrontational toward the officers.

The video shows officers struggling with Ometu to push him into the back of a police vehicle and he is heard yelling, "You're choking me!" several times as the struggle continues for over a minute.

In the videos, police officers are seen attempting to put the man into the vehicle. He appears to resist the police officers.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in a tweet Thursday that he is "seeking a full account of this incident, which is currently under investigation."&nbsp;

US President Donald Trump on Friday branded as "thugs" people who protested in Washington on Thursday night as he gave his presidential nomination acceptance speech to the Republican National Convention from the White House.

Addressing supporters in New Hampshire, Trump said people attending his speech at the White House "walked out to a bunch of thugs... That wasn't friendly protesters. They were thugs."

Anti-Trump protesters demonstrated outside the White House as Trump delivered his speech, sounding horns that could at times be heard by the speech attendees.

Like many other US cities, Washington and the streets near the White House have witnessed frequent demonstrations against police brutality and racism since George Floyd, a Black man, was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

This week, Kenosha, Wisconsin, was swept by civil unrest and violence after police there shot and wounded a Black man, Jacob Blake, in front of three of his children.

Trump, who is casting himself as a law-and-order candidate in his bid for re-election in November, has called for a forceful crackdown on the protests.

On Thursday night, a crowd of protesters swarmed Republican Senator Rand Paul as he departed the White House after listening to Trump's speech.

Video posted online shows a crowd surrounding Paul and his wife and the police. One man yells repeatedly, "say her name," a reference to Breonna Taylor, a Black woman killed by police in March in Kentucky, the state that Paul represents. At no point does it show Paul being physically attacked.

Trump praised Washington police for protecting Paul, but criticised the city's Democratic mayor, Muriel Bowser, for what he said were "bad instructions" she gave to the police.

Anti-racism protesters have planned to flood the streets of the US capital on Friday, after a white officer's shooting of African American Jacob Blake rekindled outrage over police violence and sparked a boycott movement in the sports world.

Just as protests sparked by Floyd's death had waned, outrage was rekindled Sunday when Blake was shot multiple times in the back during a confrontation with police in the Midwestern city of Kenosha.

Blake survived and is hospitalised, but may never walk again, according to his lawyer.

The ensuing demonstration has been dubbed "Get Your Knee Off Our Necks," in reference to African American George Floyd, who suffocated beneath the knee of a white officer in Minneapolis, igniting the most widespread civil unrest in the country in decades.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators were expected on the streets of Washington for a march to mark the date of civil rights leader Martin Luther King's historic "I have a dream" speech.

Workers covered store front windows with plywood in downtown Washington and a heavy police presence blocked off streets -- where hundreds of demonstrators gathered Thursday night in protest at President Donald Trump's Republican nomination for another term.

Authorities identified the officer who opened fire on Blake as Rusten Sheskey, saying police were attempting to arrest him and had tried to subdue him with a stun gun. They added that a knife had been found in his car.

In the violent and chaotic protests that followed, two people were shot dead by a man with an assault rifle. US capital braces itself for another round of anti-racism protests

US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior aide Jared Kushner on Thursday criticized a walkout by NBA stars protesting against racism and police brutality, saying they were fortunate to be rich enough to take the night off.

The Milwaukee Bucks led the boycott over another police shooting of a black man, forcing the league to halt its playoff schedule and prompting a wave of walkouts in other sports.

The NBA postponed its Wednesday evening fixtures after the Bucks refused to play the Orlando Magic in protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin on Sunday.

"The players in the NBA... have the luxury of taking a night off from work -- most Americans don't have the financial luxury to do that," said Kushner in an interview with the Politico news site.

"I think that it's nice that they're standing up for the issue but I'd like to see them start moving into concrete solutions that are productive."

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James voiced solidarity with the Bucks.

"WE DEMAND CHANGE. SICK OF IT," James, who has launched several anti-racism initiatives, tweeted.

When told of James's record of anti-racism work, Kushner said that "if LeBron James reached out to the White House and we reach out to him, we're happy to talk with him and say, 'look, let's both agree on what we want to accomplish.'"

The NBA postponements marked a dramatic escalation in the league's calls for social justice, which have reverberated across US sport since the killing of unarmed black man George Floyd by Minneapolis police in May.

Large nationwide protests have been marked by violence and looting.

"I do think that peaceful protest has a place and it has importance," Kushner said. "You don't improve wealth equality by rioting and burning down stores."

Donald Trump son-in-law says NBA stars lucky to be able to afford racism walkout

Not much has changed even after three months of the brutal killing of George Floyd, which was followed by nation-wide protests.&nbsp; This time, the state of Wisconsin is on fire.

On august 23,&nbsp;Jacob Blake, a black man, was shot in the back by white police officers in the city of Kenosha. Blake's three young sons were in the back of the car and they witnessed their father being shot.

"That you treat somebody like that - who's not armed, not giving you no problems, he ain't throw no punch or nothing. What you mad because you tased him and he didn't bend, he didn't break, he pulled it out? So you felt intimidated cause you had a gun, so you used it!? You overused it! That's what you did," Blake's fiancée said.

After being shot in the back multiple times, Blake has had a surgery and doctors claims his condition is now stable.

That's why we have to respond and we know that we can't remedy the white supremacy and the systemic racism that is built into all of our systems in just a couple of years or with any package of legislation. But that doesn't mean we don't act," he said.

Lebron James, a basketball player, also reacted to repeated instances of police brutality against the African-American community in the US. "If you're sitting here and telling me that there was no way to subdue that gentleman (jacob blake) or detain him or just before the firing of guns, then you're sitting here and lying to not only me, you're lying to every african american, and every black person in the community. Because we see it over and over and over," he said.

However, the US President Donald Trump has not reacted to the shooting of Jacob Blake. His competitior, Joe Biden, on the other hand, called for an immediate, full and transparent investigation into the shooting.

"The medical diagnosis right now is that he is paralyzed," Blake's lawyer civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump said, adding,"It is going to take a miracle for Jacob Blake Jr to ever walk again."

"He is currently in surgery as we speak, still struggling to sustain his life and to hopefully become some resemblance of the man he once was," Crump added.

Blake's father accused the police of &nbsp;"senseless attempted murder" as his mother called for calm after two nights of violent protests.

"They shot my son seven times, like he didn't matter," Blake's father said, stating further,""But my son matters. He's a human being."

A video which surfaced later showed Blake shot at seven times by police. The incident comes as the "Black Lives Matter" movement has gathered momentum in the United States in the past few months after the killing of African-American George Floyd by a cop in Minneapolis who knelt on his neck leading to his death.

Meanwhile, demonstrations against police brutality erupted in Charlotte, North Carolina as police and protesters engaged in physical conflicts on Monday as reports claimed that some protesters received head injuries during the clash.
