Bangladesh upset Pakistan in a rain-shortened bronze medal match at the Asian Games on Saturday, with Rakibul Hasan smashing a boundary off the final ball to book a six-wicket win.

Persistent rain delayed the start at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field, with Pakistan losing the toss and being sent in when the drizzle eased. But they only managed 48-1 off five overs before the weather halted play, with Mirza Baig making an unbeaten 32.

However, South Africa's shock defeat against Netherlands on Sunday made the equation a simple one for Pakistan. They needed to win against Bangladesh to qualify for the semi-finals and they did exactly that to stay alive in the tournament and qualify for the knockout stages.

If the last-over defeat against India was bad, Pakistan's morale seemed crushed after their last-ball loss against Zimbabwe. But despite two heart-breaking losses and several lows throughout their Super 12 campaign, luck smiled on Babar Azam &amp; Co. as they pulled off a miraculous entry into the semi-finals of the competition.

Pakistan received a huge favour from Netherlands on Sunday as the Dutch went on to beat South Africa by 13 runs in their final Super 12 game. Their victory kept Pakistan alive in the tournament and gave them a sure-shot chance at qualifying for the semi-finals with a win against Bangladesh.

Some terrific bowling from Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan saw Pakistan restrict Bangladesh to a low-key total of 127 runs before chasing down the target with 11 balls to spare. Openers Babar Azam (25) and Mohammad Rizwan (32) got off to a slow start but a quickfire 18-ball 31 from Mohammad Haris and Shan Masood's 14-ball 24 changed the game in their favour.

Pakistan moved to the top spot on the Group 2 table with the win as they now have six points from five matches and a better net run rate of +1.028 compared to India, who stil have a game to play against Zimbabwe. India have already qualified for the semi-finals but a win against Zimbabwe will give them the top spot in Group 2.

If India top the group, they will face England in the second semi-final with Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the first semi-final. If Pakistan remain on top, they will face England while India will be up against the Kiwis.

2nd Test, Dhaka: Pakistan sweep series vs Bangladesh with an innings and 8 run-win on final day

Bangladesh slipped to 76/7 at stumps on Day 4 of the second Test after Pakistan declared at 300/4 in their first innings, here on Tuesday. Bangladesh had a horror-filled Day Four in Dhaka as Sajid Khan, the young Pakistani spinner, ripped through the hosts` batting order and bagged six wickets. 
 
After rain played spoilsport on two consecutive days, the start of day four also got delayed due to light showers and a wet outfield. However, the match resumed after almost an hour and a half`s wait with Pakistan on 188/2, and Babar Azam and Azhar Ali were on 71 not out and 52 not out respectively. 
 
On the first ball he faced, Azhar struck a four. But two balls later, he threw away his wicket, getting caught behind after scoring 56. Shortly after, Azam followed suit, falling for 76. 
 
Thereafter, the two new batters -- Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan combined for a steady stand and made sure there were not any more hiccups in the session. They batted with caution and kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries. They took their side to Lunch at 242/4, with their stand worth 45 runs at the time.
