<p>Giving out a brief description of the balloon, the army said that it was an about 1-metre diameter sphere and had an instrument box marked with simplified Chinese characters.&nbsp;The characters, the army said, are used in China and not Taiwan. It read, "Taiyuan Radio No. 1 Factory Co., Ltd.", "GTS13 digital atmospheric sounding instrument" and "meteorological instrument."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Many Chinese military aircraft, in the last many years, have entered Taiwan's air defence identification zone (ADIZ), as per Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense.&nbsp;A few days ago, as per a report, a Taiwanese official revealed that several Chinese surveillance balloons were allegedly spotted over Taiwan in the last few years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, on Tuesday, Taiwan's defence ministry said that all the balloons were weather balloons. Tensions have only escalated between China and Taiwan in the recent past. Both nations are caught in a debate on the status of the island.&nbsp;</p>

Taiwan Army finds remnants of suspected Chinese balloon on remote Dongyin island

<p>A Palestinian was shot dead by an Israeli civilian at a settler farm on Saturday in the occupied West Bank after an attempted stabbing attack, stated the army reporting the latest incident as violence escalated in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Israeli military stated that a "terrorist was neutralised" in an "attempted stabbing attack" that took place at Sde Efraim farm which lies northwest of Ramallah, as it confirmed that a Palestinian was shot dead by a civilian.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The health ministry of Palestine stated that Tariq Maali, aged 42, was killed "after the occupation (Israel) opened fire on him" near Kafr Nama, the Palestinian village.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to AFP, a Palestinian ambulance was being prevented by the Israeli forces from accessing the site.</p>

<p>Palestinian medic Mahmoud Aidi said that attempts were made by first responders to reach the scene but there was "a strong army presence concentrated on the hill, and we weren't permitted to reach the person killed".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The United States&nbsp;Justice Department said on Thursday that a former&nbsp;Army major and his anesthesiologist wife had been charged criminally for allegedly conspiring to transmit highly private medical information about military patients to Russia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jamie Lee Henry, a former major and physician at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, and his wife, Dr. Anna Gabrielian, were accused in an unsealed indictment in a federal court in Maryland with conspiracy and disclosing patient health information improperly.</p>

<p>According to the indictment, the scheme allegedly got underway following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. According to the prosecution, the two intended to try to assist the Putin regime in Russia by giving them information that would allow it to "gain insights into the medical conditions of individuals associated with the US&nbsp;government and military."&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the indictment, the two met with a person they thought was a Russian official but who was actually an undercover FBI agent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On August 17, Gabrielian allegedly informed the undercover agent at a hotel in Baltimore that "she was motivated by patriotism toward Russia to offer any aid she could to Russia, even if it meant being fired or going to jail."</p>

<p>She offered to involve her husband in the plan during the discussion, claiming he had knowledge of previous military training the US had given to Ukraine, among other things.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later that day, during another encounter, Henry admitted to the undercover agent that he shared his commitment to Russia and that he had even thought about enlisting in the Russian army.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In response, the agent advised them to read "Inside the Aquarium: The Making of a Top Soviet Spy," saying it would help them comprehend what they were about to accomplish.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the indictment, Henry had some doubts about disclosing medical information, claiming that doing so would go against the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). His wife, however, had no such misgivings.</p>

<p>She informed the undercover agent in a later meeting on August 24 that her husband was a "coward" to worry about breaking HIPAA because she did it frequently and that she would make sure that they could provide Russia access to patient medical information from Fort Bragg.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She had provided information on current and past military personnel as well as their spouses by the end of the month, it claims.</p>

We maintain these mules and we send them to different posts and areas depending on what is required where. <p>In a first, Indian Army officers undertook a course in Tibetology "to gain comprehensive knowledge and&nbsp;strengthen their connect" with the Tibetan community in the border areas, the Indian Defence Ministry has announced. The 42 day-long course was attended by Indian Army officers, JCO etc at the Central Institute of Himalayan and Cultural Studies, Dahung, Arunachal&nbsp;Pradesh. More such courses on Tibetology are being planned in the future.</p>

<p>A statement by Lt Col A S Walia, Press Officer for Defence, Tezpur&nbsp;said,&nbsp;"officers undertook research on subjects such as Tibetan Buddhism, People of Tibet, Sinicization of Tibet and Political system in Tibet before and after 1950". Tibet after 1950 saw dramatic political changes including an invasion by China that led to the Dalai Lama, the top Tibetan spiritual Guru, leaving the region in 1959. Since then, Tibet has seen widespread influx of Han Chinese and&nbsp;sinicization or increased Chinese influence.</p>

<p>The course&nbsp;included learning of Tibetan Language, understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and Literature and visits to monasteries of Chillipam, Dirang and Bomdila. Many of these monasteries have deep linkages with Tibetan Buddhism.&nbsp;The Indian Army officers also took part in Saka Dawa, a key festival in Tibetan Buddhism and is associated with Buddha's life which the statement said, "further enriched their knowledge of the Tibetan culture and religion".</p>

<p>The development comes at a time when India-China tensions remain high in the backdrop of Chinese aggressive moves at the Line of Actual (LAC) control in Eastern Ladakh. 2020 Galwan incident at LAC saw India losing 20 of its soldiers due to military action by the Chinese army. China, after much delay did accept that it lost 4 of its soldiers, a number that remains doubtful given Beijing's lackluster track record on transparency.</p>

<p>Other key features of the course included guest lectures by Guru Tulku Rinpoche, Abbot of Bomdila Monastery and Tibet&nbsp;expert Claude Arpi. In March 2022, Guru Tulku Rinpoche was honored with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of India for Spiritualism. He is identified as the 12th incarnation in the lineage of Merag Lama Lodroe Gyatso who founded Tawang Monastery.&nbsp;Tawang Monastery has very close links with Tibet, and it was this monastery that the Dalai Lama reached to take shelter after the Chinese invasion of his homeland.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Burhan said the military would no longer participate in national talks facilitated by the UN and regional blocs, wanting instead "to make room for political and revolutionary forces and other national factions" to form a civilian government.</p>

<p>His announcement came months after the October coup ousted civilians from a transitional administration, sparking widespread international condemnation and aid cuts to the impoverished northeast African country which has seen only rare interludes of civilian rule.</p>

<p>Burhan's televised address came as hundreds of anti-coup demonstrators were on their fifth day of sit-in protests after last Thursday saw the deadliest violence so far this year.</p>

<p>Pro-democracy medics said nine demonstrators lost their lives, bringing to 114 the number killed in the crackdown against anti-coup protesters since October.</p>

<p>Protesters were unmoved by the general's words, and in the Burri district of Khartoum new demonstrators came out immediately.</p>

<p>"We don't have confidence in Burhan," said Muhannad Othman, perched on a barricade erected by the protesters. "We just want him to leave once and for all."</p>

<p>A demonstrator in central Khartoum, Oumeima Hussein, said Burhan should be "judged for all those killed since the coup" and vowed that protesters "are going to topple him like we did to Bashir".</p>

<p>The army's ouster of strongman Omar al-Bashir in 2019 after mass demonstrations led to a civilian-military transitional administration before the putsch.</p>

<p>Tens of thousands had taken to the streets again on Thursday, almost matching numbers at the peak of demonstrations after the coup. Although near-weekly rallies have continued, they appeared to decline in intensity before reigniting last week with the same demand: an end to military rule.</p>

<p>"The armed forces will not stand in the way" of democratic transition, Burhan said in his address, affirming the military's commitment to working towards "elections in which the Sudanese people choose who will govern them".</p>

<p>In the weeks following the coup, the military and civilian leaders had promised general elections in July 2023.</p>

<p>Sudan's main civilian players refused to take part in talks with military leaders launched last month under international auspices in an effort to restore the transition.</p>

<p>The United Nations, the African Union and regional bloc IGAD facilitated the dialogue.</p>

<p>But the talks were boycotted by Sudan's main civilian bloc, the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), which was ousted from power in the coup, and the influential Umma party.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Late Monday, the FFC were holding an "emergency meeting" to discuss their response to Burhan's announcements, a source within the bloc told AFP.</p>

<p>Also absent from the talks were members of the resistance committees&nbsp;informal groups which emerged during the 2018-2019 protests that ousted Bashir and have led calls for recent anti-coup rallies.</p>

<p>Burhan said that "the formation of the executive government" will be followed by "the dissolution of the Sovereign Council"&nbsp;the ruling authority formed under a fragile power-sharing agreement between the army and civilians in 2019.</p>

<p>Though the coup derailed the transition and severed the fragile alliance, the Sovereign Council&nbsp;continued to govern Sudan under Burhan's rule.</p>

<p>"A supreme council of armed forces" will take its place, he said, combining the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary unit commanded by Burhan's deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.</p>

<p>The RSF incorporated members of the Janjaweed militia, which was accused by rights groups of atrocities during the conflict that erupted in 2003 in the western region of Darfur.</p>

<p>More recently, the RSF has been accused of taking part in crackdowns on anti-coup protesters.</p>

<p>The new supreme council will only be in charge of "defence and security" issues, Burhan said.</p>
