Dozens of Yemeni rebels have been killed in battles and air strikes in Hodeida, medics said Sunday, as pro-government forces advanced in the insurgent-held Red Sea port city.

The bloodshed comes despite growing international pressure to end a years-long conflict that has left thousands dead.

Fifty-three Huthi rebels were killed and dozens were injured over the past 24 hours, medical sources in Hodeida told AFP.

Clashes intensified in the city and centred around its university on Saturday and Sunday morning, a pro-government military official said.

Huthi media reported air strikes in Hodeida on Sunday but did not give a fighter casualty toll.

Military officials said Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out dozens of air strikes to support pro-government forces in the fighting which began on Thursday evening.

Thirteen pro-government troops were killed, medical sources in Aden and Mokha -- where the fighters were transported -- told AFP.

The clashes erupted just hours after the government said Thursday it was ready to restart peace talks with the Iran-backed Huthis.

The offer followed a surprise call by the United States for an end to the Yemen war, including air strikes by the coalition.

Hodeida port is the entry point for more than 70 per cent of imports into the impoverished country, which is teetering on the edge of famine.

'Shamefully slow to act'

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, a special envoy for the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), appealed for an immediate ceasefire.

"As an international community we have been shamefully slow to act to end the crisis in Yemen," she said in a statement during a trip to South Korea.

"We have watched the situation deteriorate to the point that Yemen is now on the brink of man-made famine, and facing the worst cholera epidemic in the world in decades," Jolie added.

"The only way to enable refugees to return home, and to bring down the overall numbers worldwide, is to end conflicts themselves."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday had called for a halt to violence to pull Yemen back from the "precipice".

After UN-backed peace talks collapsed in September, the coalition announced it was relaunching an assault on Hodeida.

Yemeni government officials said Tuesday that the coalition had sent more than 10,000 new troops towards the battleground city.

Saudi Arabia and its allies intervened in the war in 2015 to bolster Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi after the rebels took over the capital Sanaa and drove the government further south to Aden.

According to the World Health Organization, nearly 10,000 people have since been killed.

Some rights groups estimate the toll could be five times higher.

In a fresh sexual assault complaint against Harvey Weinstein, an aspiring actor has accused the filmmaker of sexually assaulting her when she was 16-year-old.

The former Polish model, identified as Jane Doe, in the court papers, said that in 2002, she met Weinstein for a business lunch and later ended up at his apartment in Soho, where he "aggressively" demanded sex from her.

"Weinstein wasted no time in aggressively and threateningly demanding sex," the suit read.

According to a report by Page Six, the film producer told the girl if she wanted to be an actress she had to give in to his sexual desires.

"Weinstein threatened and pressured Doe, saying that he had made the careers of Penelope Cruz and Gwyneth Paltrow and that neither would be working without him," the suit added.

"He then took off his pants and forcibly held Doe ctor while taking her hand and making her touch and massage his penis," the filing added.

According to the suit, Weinstein became infuriated when the terrified teen tried to object to his demands and did not let her leave at first.

However, he eventually yielded.

In 2008, Weinstein approached Doe and asked her to meet him, saying that he "might have some ideas" to help.

In the filing, the actor claimed that she went to Weinstein's office where he offered to "set her up with representation from Marilyn, a modeling agency."

At one point, during the meeting, Weinstein got distracted by a Christina Aguilera's performance on television, and allegedly said, "Wow, I`d really like to f**k that p***y".

He then unzipped his pants and began touching his penis following which Doe fled the room.

More than 80 women, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Rose McGowan, have revealed similar stories about the movie mogul.

Some accused him of using physical force to compel them to have sex, while others said he offered roles in movies to actors in exchange of sexual favours and also threatened to ruin their careers if they did not fulfill his demands.

When video game character Lara Croft first debuted in Tomb Raider on the big screen nearly two decades ago, she was a daring, action-superwoman embodying a role reserved for men.

Now, with the same feminist spirit, the reboot starring Alicia Vikander and opening worldwide this week, spins the usual action-adventure tale, but also dives into Croft`s beginnings, portraying a heroine with an emotional life and personal growth.

"We show this journey of Lara when she`s not the action hero ... and it`s a way of us still to root for her," the 29-year-old Swede in her biggest role to date told Reuters Television. "You actually get to feel that`s she`s human, and she`s open to be vulnerable."

The franchise`s revival is based primarily on a 2013 iteration of the game, which takes place on the fictional lost island of Yamatai near Japan.

In the film, Croft leads a profligate youth following her father`s disappearance but then is pulled back into the fold when she is inspired to scrutinize his vanishing while on one of his treacherous archaeological adventures.

Tomb Raider, which first made it to the big screen in 2001 with Angelina Jolie as Croft, is a bit of a throwback with an elaborately constructed studio set in an era when most action films depend heavily on computer effects.

"I was really looking to get an authentic and gritty feel to the whole movie, so we shot a lot of it for real," Norwegian director Roar Uthaug said.

"I think it brings some edge to it, some rawness," the 44-year-old added.

Tomb Raider arrives at a time when Hollywood is putting more women in central roles in the macho blockbuster genre.

It is also a bet Warner Bros. has placed on Vikander to be Hollywood`s next breakout female action star following the roaring success of little-known Israeli actress Gal Gadot in last year`s Wonder Woman.

Vikander, who won a best-supporting-actress Oscar in 2016 for The Danish Girl, had yet to take on top billing in a blockbuster and is best known for her intense, emotionally dramatic performances.
"I too had to overcome, like Lara, a lot of questioning," Vikander said. "But it`s an adventure, and I was really intrigued to go on it."

'Tomb Raider' reboot tests Oscar-winner Vikander''s star power

Actor Alicia Vikander, who is playing the latest iteration of video game hero Lara Croft in her next Tomb Raider, has said watching the iconic character during her childhood felt like an empowering experience to her.

The 29-year-old actor takes over from Angelina Jolie, who played the role in two films, in the Roar Uthaug-directed film, and she revealed that she initially felt "ashamed" when she signed up for the project as none of her friends had ever played the game.

"I also grew up in a time when there were none of my girlfriends who played video games. I was kind of ashamed for doing it," Vikander said on The Graham Norton Show.

Vikander said she was introduced to Tomb Raider at a friend's house and she was intrigued by the game that it led her to change her mind.

"It was a female protagonist in a video game, and I had never seen that. I was a bit too scared to play the whole game when I was about 10, so I mostly spent time doing the tricks and learning her moves in that manner. But yeah, I was a big fan when I was a kid," she added.

The actor also said that she left her Oscar award that she won for The Danish Girl in Los Angeles as it was "too heavy to bring home".

"I only had one night with him. I decided he was too heavy to bring home in my hand luggage so my friend's daughter has him in her bedroom," Vikander said.

"I get updates with photos on what he's up to. I've been on the move for some time but I am going to get him soon and bring him home," she added.

Recently separated Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have decided to keep their divorce out of the public eye and use a private judge, US media reported on Tuesday.

Jolie and Pitt reached an agreement to keep all divorce documents and proceedings under seal in order to "preserve the privacy rights of their children and family," the couple said in a joint statement to CNN.

The duo has been in the midst of a bitter public divorce and custody battle over their children.

Jolie, 41, filed for divorce in September in a Los Angeles court and seeks full physical custody of their six children with visitation rights for Pitt. She did not seek spousal support.

The split reportedly came after Pitt lost his temper in front of his children and reportedly struck one of them. He was cleared by the FBI and social workers over child abuse allegations in November. Pitt seeks joint legal and physical custody.

The joint statement comes a month after a judge denied Pitt an emergency hearing in which he sought to have all documents and proceedings regarding the divorce sealed, according to CNN.

Under a current temporary custody agreement, Jolie has physical custody of the children while Pitt has been granted visiting rights supervised by a therapist.

The couple, more famously known as "Brangelina", married in 2014 in France after a decade of being together.

Jolie, Pitt agree to settle divorce in private to protect children

Brad Pitt has accused Angelina Jolie of compromising their children's privacy and is asking a judge to seal details about the youngsters emerging from the couple's divorce, court papers showed Thursday.

The 52-year-old star's lawyers claim his estranged wife is showing little regard for the welfare of the three boys and three girls, as her attorneys try to make him look bad, according to a motion filed in a Los Angeles court.

Pitt's legal team argues that Jolie has already violated an agreement to protect the privacy of the children -- who range from age eight to 15 -- by making public the names of family therapists.

The lawyers accuse Jolie, 41, of "attempting to clear the way to put in the public eye any allegations she can" without regard to the impact on the children.

Jolie filed for divorce in September, citing irreconcilable differences, and is seeking sole custody of the children.

Pitt was cleared by the FBI and social workers over allegations that he struck one of his children during a flight that month from France to Los Angeles.

Pitt, who won a best film Oscar for producing "12 Years a Slave" (2013), is seeking joint legal and physical custody.

He has been granted visits supervised by a therapist as part of a temporary custody agreement.

Under the deal Jolie has physical custody of the children -- three of whom are adopted -- at a rented LA house.

The A-listers -- given the celebrity moniker "Brangelina" -- wed in France in August two years ago, but had been a couple since 2004.

A hearing on Pitt's motion is scheduled for January 17.

Pitt accuses Jolie of risking children's privacy

Film star Brad Pitt has been cleared of abuse allegations in a child welfare investigation and has asked a court to grant him shared custody of his six children with his estranged wife, actress Angelina Jolie, a source close to the matter said on Wednesday.

Pitt, 52, fully cooperated in a comprehensive inquiry conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which found no wrongdoing on his part, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Hollywood power couple, dubbed "Brangelina" during their decade-long romance, split following an incident on a private plane in which Pitt was reported to have lost his temper in front of one or more of the children.

According to celebrity news website TMZ.com, Jolie accused Pitt of striking their eldest son, Maddox.

Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from the actor, her husband of two years and romantic partner since 2005, in September, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking full physical custody of their children, ages 8 to 15.

At the time, the Oscar-winning actress said her decision to end the marriage "was made for the health of the family."

Their children include two adopted sons, Maddox from Cambodia and Pax from Vietnam, an adopted daughter from Ethiopia, Zahara, and three biological children, Shiloh Nouvel and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

Having been cleared by the child welfare agency of abuse, Pitt went to court last Friday and filed for joint custody of all six youngsters, according to the source.

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) declined to comment on the matter to Reuters, citing confidentiality laws.

A representative for Jolie said on Wednesday she was "relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal."

In September, Pitt agreed to submit to drug and alcohol testing under a temporary agreement with Jolie allowing him visits with their children, two people familiar with that agreement said then. The estranged couple also agreed to undergo individual counseling at the time.

Both stars have kept a generally low profile since the announcement of their divorce. But on Wednesday night, Pitt resumed press obligations for his upcoming film, "Allied," attending a screening of the movie in Los Angeles.
