Underworld don Rajendra Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to the New Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS), Tihar jail authorities informed a sessions court here on Monday.

Rajan, 61, is lodged in the high-security Tihar prison in New Delhi since his arrest after deportation from Bali, Indonesia, in 2015.

All the criminal cases pending against him in Mumbai were transferred to the CBI and a special court was constituted to try them.

On Monday, an assistant jailor of the Tihar jail telephonically informed the sessions court here that they could not produce Rajan via video conference before the judge for hearing in a case as the gangster has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to the AIIMS.

Rajan is facing as many as 70 criminal cases of extortion and murder in Mumbai.

In 2018, Rajan was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2011 murder case of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.

Last week, the special CBI court in Mumbai acquitted Rajan and his aide in connection with the murder of Hanif Kadawala, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case.

As the spurt of Covid cases begins to taper, Gupta cautioned though there has been a decline in the Covid cases recently, but this does not mean that danger is over. He stressed the factors contributing towards the decline in cases and deaths could be the ongoing vaccination drive and the intrinsic immunity of people in the country. "A large population has already been infected, which sub clinically may contribute to decline. The pathogenicity of this is decreasing maybe", he said. 
 
On the aspect of increasing numbers in western countries and consistent decline in cases in India, Gupta indicated that this is perhaps due to a higher immunity of the Indian population towards the virus than western population, but there is not sufficient data to establish this.

"Some people are saying that it is mass hysteria but it is not," said A.S. Ram, a senior doctor at Eluru government hospital.

He said most victims had suffered genuine symptoms, but "we are unable to diagnose what is causing it".

Other officials pinpointed a possible role of chemical additives in pesticides, while residents have highlighted a problem with garbage and feral pigs.

They released a report on Monday which said symptoms included "epilepsy for 3-5 minutes, forgetfulness, anxiety, vomiting, headache and back pain."&nbsp;

The government has sent doctors from the National Institute of Virology, National Centre for Disease Control and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences have been sent to investigate.

The team was collecting samples of edible oil, rice, blood and urine for analysis.

"Most of the patients are coming in with minor head injuries or a black eye as they collapsed suddenly with the seizure," Ram said.

"But within one or two hours most of them are fine."

Police constable Kiran Kumar -- who collapsed while on duty Monday -- said he had been left "scared" after being semi-conscious for more than two hours.

"My colleagues told me, I shouted something and collapsed. I injured my right shoulder due to falling on the road."

According to district officials, the illness is not spread person-to-person.

The doctors have so far prepared a draft report and they would be publishing a full report on the girl's health condition.

The report of brain damage is the first of its kind reported in the country for coronavirus patients. The girl aged 11 reported blurred vision, however, her condition improved with immunotherapy treatment and was later discharged from hospital with 50 per cent of her vision restored.

The draft said the COVID-19 infection had induced Acute Demyelinating Syndrome (ADS) in the girl which was the first in the "paediatric age group".

The man later recovered but a week later he noticed ringing in his left ear which led to hearing loss even as the doctors tested him for flu, HIV and rheumatoid arthritis but all showed negative results.

The doctors in the UK were unable to ascertain the exact cause of the man's hearing loss and asked for more investigations into the case.

First case of COVID-19-related brain nerve damage in child reported at AIIMS

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said on Saturday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had "recovred" after "post-COVID-19&nbsp;care". AIIMS added that he will be discharged in a short time. He was admitted to AIIMS hospital on August 18.

He was admitted to AIIMS just days after his discharge from Medanta.

"Today, we got approval from AIIMS Ethics Committee for starting the human clinical trial of the indigenously developed Covaxin. We are launching the enrollment process from Monday. We are going to select healthy participants with no comorbidities and without a history of COVID-19. The age group of the study population is 18 to 55 years. This would be a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial," Dr Rai told.

The country`s top drug regulator had recently gave a green signal for human clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin, which has been developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the ICMR and the National Institute of Virology (NIV).

Asked about the concerns raised by AIIMS Ethics Committee a few days back regarding the trial, Dr Rai said that those concerns were addressed in the Ethics Committee meeting and the panel gave green signal to initiate the trial.

"Any healthy individual who wishes to participate in the trial can send in an email on Ctaiims.covid19@gmail.com or send an SMS or call on 7428847499," he said, adding that in the first and second phase AIIMS (Delhi) will choose only 100 participants out of 375 volunteers and the remaining will participate at other sites.

"We have already registered a few volunteers for the trial. From Monday onwards, our team will start their health screening before giving them vaccination," he said.

The drug,&nbsp;Mycobacterium W, was earlier used in the treatment of leprosy.&nbsp;The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) recently collaborated with&nbsp;Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd to evaluate the effect of the drug for coronavirus treatment.

The drug was allowed by the authorities to be tested on critically ill patients, and has shown good results in AIIMS Bhopal, till now.

Earlier on Saturday, AIIMS New Delhi administration had said that there is no shortage of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) for the healthcare workers at the institute.

A Delhi court on Friday sentenced expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to 10 years' imprisonment in the murder case of Unnao rape victim's father.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma directed both Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother Atul Singh Sengar to pay Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to the victim's family.

The victim's father had died in judicial custody on April 9, 2018.

The court had on March 4 convicted Kuldeep Singh Sengar for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the death of the Unnao rape victim's father.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was convicted by the court along with seven others in the case, had denied any involvement in the death of the victim's father and had asserted that he has done no wrong.

On December 20 last year, Kuldeep Singh Sengar was sentenced to jail for "remainder of his natural biological life" in a separate case for raping the woman in 2017 when she was a minor.

Along with Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the then in-charge of Makhi Police Station Ashok Singh Bhadauria and then sub-inspector K P Singh, the court had held Vineet Mishra, Birendra Singh, Shashi Pratap Singh, Suman Singh and Atul (Sengar's brother) guilty of committing an offence under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The court, however, had acquitted other accused constable Amir Khan, Shailendra Singh, Ram Sharan Singh and Sharadveer Singh giving them the benefit of doubt.

The CBI had examined 55 witnesses in support of the case and the defence had examined nine witnesses.

The court had recorded the statements of the rape victim's uncle, mother, sister and one of her father's colleague who had claimed to be an eyewitness to the incident.

According to the CBI, on April 3, 2018, there was an altercation between the rape victim's father and one Shashi Pratap Singh.

Singh called his associates, following which Kuldeep Singh Sengar's brother Atul Singh Sengar reached the spot along with others and beat up the woman's father and his co-worker, the CBI claimed.

The woman's father was subsequently taken to the police station by them where an FIR was lodged against him and he was arrested.

The charge sheet said that all this while, Kuldeep Singh Sengar was in touch with the district police superintendent and Bhadauria.

At AIIMS, we are fully equipped with the treatment facilities and have trained doctors, nurses to screen the patients. As of now, no case has been reported in India.

The hospital preparedness with regard to management and infection prevention control facilities has also been reviewed, he added.

"We have adequate precautionary measures even for healthcare workers here. In case, if a large number of cases originated, we have to capacity to strengthen the isolation ward facilities," said Dr Guleria adding that the Central government is continuously doing thermal screening for passengers arriving in India from China via Hongkong.

These airports include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata respectively.

"Unfortunately, as of now there is no such treatment, vaccine and medication available for the treatment of nCoV as this typical virus mutates very fast and transmits from human to human easily. Hence, we have to follow preventive medication strategies," Dr Guleria added.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to submit a report regarding health issues of Congress leader P Chidambaram, who is currently <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/seven-member-cbi-team-climbs-wall-to-arrest-chidambaram-at-his-residence-244683">lodged in jail </a>in connection with INX media money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The High Court directed AIIMS to constitute a medical board comprising of Dr Nageshwar Reddy (family doctor of P Chidambaram from Hyderabad) for Chidambram's treatment in AIIMS.

The court has asked AIIMS to submit the report before Friday.

AIIMS Medical board will sit at 7 pm today to discuss the matter.

The Congress leader is <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/p-chidambaram-seeks-bail-in-inx-media-money-laundering-case-257685">seeking interim bail</a> on medical grounds. Chidambaram's lawyer had sought interim bail for him to consult and get examined by his regular treating doctor D Nageshwar Reddy at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad.

His regular bail plea is also pending for detail hearing on November 4 before the same Bench of the Delhi High Court.

Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram argued that his medical condition is very serious. "We want his treatment in Apollo with his doctor Nageshwar reddy. He needs a sterile environment. Right to life is very important. He needs immediate attention. He has a medical history. A man of 73 kg has now become a 66kg man. He has lost weight. AIIMS put him on steroids dose for 16 weeks which will not cure the decease. It will only suppress the pain and inflammation," he said.

Tushar Mehta appearing for ED said that Chidambaram has been given the best treatment. "We have taken him in AIIMS. He took the name of Doctor Ahuja, who is the best doctor for his disease. Doctor Ahuja also talked with his family doctor Nagesh Reddy who can be the part of AIIMS team. We have no objection in that."

Sibal opposed the treatment being provided in AIIMS stated that it has no sterile atmosphere and Chidambaram should get treatment at Apollo. However, he agreed that AIIMS should provide him a private ward with sterile environment.

October 30, a special court in Delhi sent Chidambaram to judicial custody till November 13.

The Congress leader was produced before the court on completion of his ED custody in the case.

The court had, on October 24, extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Chidambaram till October 30 in connection with the case.

The ED, which is probing the money laundering charges against the leader, had arrested him on October 16.

This is the second time Chidambaram is being sent to Tihar jail.

He was earlier sent to Tihar following his CBI arrest on August 21 in connection with the INX media case.

The CBI had registered an FIR alleging irregularities in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007, during Chidambaram's tenure as finance minister.

The party said that every crop will be bought at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the benefit of the government schemes will be directly transferred to the bank account of the farmers.

It reiterated the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double the farmers'&nbsp;income by 2022 in the manifesto.

According to the manifesto, every vegetable market will have a testing lab and micro-lab will be built in every five villages for the same purpose.

Polyclinics will be established in every district for the check-up of the animals.

To give a push to the start-up ecosystem, it promised to initiate a state start-up mission, for which four entrepreneurship centres will be constituted.

A whopping Rs 500 crore will be spent on the skill development of over 25 lakh youth.

District Employment Centre will be upgraded to Model Career Centre.

Loan without the guarantee would be made available for the education purpose by the government.

Among other things for the benefit of the youth, the BJP promised to constitute 'Yuva Vikas and Rozgar'&nbsp;Ministry. To give a push to the sports, stadium and gymnasium will be constructed in all the villages.

Taking into consideration the health of the state, the party has promised to constitute one All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the state, medical colleges in every district.

The BJP said that the seats in the medical college will also be increased.

It also promised to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Centres to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses.

Another reform in the health sector proposed by the party is to make Haryana malnutrition-free and Tuberculosis (TB)-free and create 2,000 wellness centres.

Keeping in mind the safety of women, the BJP said that "Pink bus service" will be started for them.

"Antyodaya Ministry" for the upliftment of the weakest section of the society will be formed.

Pension for the senior citizens will also be increased by one thousand from Rs 2 thousand to Rs 3 thousand.In lines with PM Modi's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the BJP in Haryana aims to provide housing to all by 2022.

The state has a total of about 19,500 polling stations in 10,309 locations. It goes to polls on October 21.

There was no loss or damage to life in the incident. As a precautionary measure, patients were admitted to the eye centre and other wings of the hospital temporarily from the adjoining AB Wing.

On Sunday, at least 30 patients of Paediatric Surgery from Day Care will be shifted soon to AB 5 Main Hospital.

"OPDs were turned into emergency wards. There are more than 200 benches in the OPD area. So in quick time, we accommodated patients there," Dr Shakti Gupta, Medical Superintendent of RPC at AIIMS told ANI.

"The main Eye Operation Theatre (OT) was converted into the labour room. We are happy to announce that in even in the time of crisis, our team managed to get two LSCS done in Eye main OT- one male and one female baby was delivered. One case of PPH also managed in Eye OT," he said.

Gupta said that the hospital has 10 beds in the daycare division.

"Now we have added five more beds to treat patients. We have one patient with postpartum bleeding (Excessive bleeding after childbirth), We have few patients admitted needing ICU support and they are being taken care," he added.

"All the patients of Gynae and Obs from 4A shifted to Main Hospital Cleaning done, Ward ready for use," Gupta said.

He said that all patients of Endocrinology, G I Surgery from AB 7 and C7 D7 shifted back to the hospital.

"Ward 4B ready for immediate use Casualty OT and Eye Emergency cleared and normal functioning restored. Emergency Patients from OPD shifted back and cleared and cleaning is done," he added.

Gupta further said,&nbsp;"Fumigation will be done of both Main OT and Casualty after the Glaucoma workshop. I appreciate all faculty, residents, nursing staff of RPC that Contingency Plan well executed. We hope that RPC will start functioning normally in a day or a two," said Dr Shakti.

He said that all senior Faculty members and resident doctors, nursing Officers, staff were on the board late night.

"Without their duty they came to deliver. AIIMS family members stood together to save Patients," said a senior doctor.

However, the hospital area has not been affected by the fire and there has been no casualty.

The hospital along with the emergency department and emergency laboratories is fully functional.

AIIMS administration has initiated an internal enquiry to look into the cause of the fire and further strengthen preventive measure.

AIIMS has a regular fire prevention system.

There are fire personnel deployed round the clock with fire fighting safety systems being regularly tested including clearance of fire exits and corridors.

Awareness of fire fighting systems among staff is conducted regularly.
