Australia pacer Kane Richardson has said that probably leaving the Indian Premier League (IPL) season midway last year was the reason behind him and Adam Zampa going unsold in the mega auction this year.

Zampa and Richardson who were playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last season decided to leave IPL midway during the India phase after COVID-19 cases started rising in India and there were doubts regarding whether Australia will allow any travellers or not.

"I was definitely more shocked for him. To be brutally honest, when we left last year, in the circumstances early, I remember having a conversation with him.
Further talking about the IPL, Richardson said: "So my reputation probably is that in the last couple of years I haven't gone so it's obviously not something that I am. I try and play as much cricket as I can. But I think the circumstances in the last couple of IPLs have made me not go. But it's not a reputation I want."

'Proud' Australian skipper Aaron Finch lauds team after T20 WC win: 'We knew our backs were against the wall'

Australia's star spinner Adam Zampa has taken a dig at former England captain Michael Vaughan after Aaron Finch & Co. won the T20 World Cup 2021 title on Sunday (November 14). Australia defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the final to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy and proved their critics wrong yet again. One of the most successful teams in the history of cricket, Australia had been written off by many ahead of the start of the tournament.

Finch & Co. had lost their last five bilateral T20I series in a row in the run-up to the T20 World Cup in the UAE but stepped up when it mattered the most as they went on to clinch the title after a dominant performance in the final. Former England captain Vaughan was one of the experts who had predicted Australia won't last long in the tournament.

"I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament. But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, one of those four and maybe Pakistan because of the conditions,” Vaughan had said on BBC Test Match Special on October 19.

His prediction went horribly wrong as the Aussies dominated the proceedings in the tournament and were crowned champions. Zampa took to Instagram to share a picture of the Australian players celebrating their World Cup win and trolled Vaughan by using his quote as the caption of his post.

Batting first in the final, Kane Williamson's 85 off 48 balls helped New Zealand post a fighting total of 172 runs on the board. However, Australia had a comfortable outing in the run-chase as they rode on David Warner's 53 and Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten 77 to chase down the target with seven balls to spare and win by 8 wickets.

Warner was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his 289 runs in seven matches for the champions. Zampa was the stand out performer with the ball as he finished as the leading wicket-taker for his side with 13 wickets from seven matches and bowled at an excellent average of 12.08. He was the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament overall.

CHAMPIONS! Australia win T20 World Cup 2021 title: A look at their tremendous campaign

Knowing net run-rate may be a decisive factor in Australia`s qualification for the semi-finals of the ICC men`s T20 World Cup 2021, spinner Adam Zampa revealed they had to be aggressive from the start.

Zampa took his maiden five-wicket haul for Australia as Bangladesh were bowled out for 73, with Shamim Hossain top-scoring making 19.

In reply, Australia chased down the total easily, skipper Aaron Finch scored 40 off 20 as they reached their target in just 6.2 overs, knowing anything below 8.1 overs would see them move above South Africa into second in Group 1.

"Obviously we wanted to come out really aggressive, we did have some, interesting memories of the last time we played Bangladesh and that was in our minds a little bit," Zampa said in an ICC release.

"We have a little bit of a different team, we have some really fast bowlers and we wanted to be aggressive early."

"We know that if we give a team like Bangladesh a little sniff or a little chance, they`ll take it. They are a really talented team, they have some really talented players, but they have a pretty big absence in Shakib [Al Hasan] so we tried to be aggressive and go from there," he added.

Bangladesh had secured their first series win over Australia, beating them 4-1 in a home T20I series in the summer, with Zampa taking five wickets across the series.

Vintage David Warner answered his critics with a sizzling 42-ball-65 as Australia cruised to seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in a Super 12 game of the ICC T20 World Cup here on Thursday.

Warner, who has gone through a lean patch, was back in his element as his 10 fours made it easy for Australia to chase down the target of 155 in only 17 overs.

It was Australia's second win in as many Super 12 games and they look like a strong contender apart from England in the group to move into the semifinals.

Warner was involved in two solid partnerships, -- 70 in 6.5 overs with skipper Finch (37 off 23 balls) and another 50 in 6.3 overs with former skipper Steve Smith (28 not out off 26 balls).

In the end, the chase seemed like a walk in the park for the Aussies, who were better in all departments of the game against Sri Lanka who lost their way between 10th and 13th over of their own innings.

However, the day belonged Warner, who was at his best and it only helped him that Sri Lankan bowlers missed the length on most occasions which gave enough time to rock back and play those customary pull-shots -- both off pacers as well as spinners.

Warner, had a terrible last month in the UAE when he had a public fall-out with the Sunrisers Hyderabad management and it went to the extent of one of the modern day great being not allowed to come to the stadium by the franchise management, which had earlier stripped him of captaincy.

It was about time that he answered everyone with a knock that will certainly be a wake-up call for other teams.

But a lot of credit should also go to Mitchell Starc, who bowled the "ball of the tournament" as Australia engineered a mid-innings collapse which went a long way in restricting the islanders to 154 for 6.

Starc (2/27 in 4 overs) bowled a brilliant comeback delivery in the form of a vicious inswinging yorker after being hit for a six which saw the end of Kusal Perera (35 off 25 balls) as Sri Lanka lost four quick wickets for 16 runs to slump to 94 for 5 from a relatively strong 78 for 1 in little under three overs.

Bhanuka Rakaspakse (33 not out off 26 balls), then launched into Australian attack's weak-link Marcus Stoinis (0/35 in 3 overs) to get Sri Lanka somewhat back on track which looked improbable after Starc's second spell.

However, Perera and last match's hero Charith Asalanka (35 off 27 balls) added 63 runs in little over seven overs to set up the platform.

Asalanka was the first to get off the blocks when he slog-swept Glenn Maxwell over deep mid-wicket for a six and also swept behind square for a boundary. He then got another four off Josh Hazlewood's bowling before Perera also joined the fun.

He smacked Starc for a six over long-on in his signature typical 'Sanath Jayasuriya style' but the left-arm speedster then bowled one that jagged back late and landed in the blockhole at a good pace. Perera couldn't even bring his bat down before it disturbed the stumps.

Before that, Asalanka had been dismissed by leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who easily was the most influential bowler on a good batting track with astounding figures of 2/12 in 4 overs. He bowled as many as 12 dot balls.

It was because of Zampa that Sri Lanka despite some great shots in between didn't get the requisite momentum during the those middle overs.

Add to it he and Starc shared the spoils to make it difficult for opposition batters. It was Rajapakse's four boundaries and a six that lent muscle to their score in the end.

IPL exits: Zampa, Richardson to fly back to Australia via Doha

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa flew back on Monday in the wake of leaving the Royal Challengers Bangalore halfway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Adam Zampa recorded a few reasons that constrained him to quit midway.

The 29-year-old said it would have been a superior alternative to have IPL 2021 in UAE. He referenced that he felt that more helpless on the grounds that the league is being held in India.

RCB is scheduled to lock horns with defending champions Mumbai Indians on April 9 in what will be the tournament opener in Chennai. Zampa played just three matches for RCB in IPL 2020 and picked up two wickets. He has 200 wickets in 173 T20s. "We won't have our full contingent of overseas players available for the first game," Hesson said in a video posted by RCB on Twitter. "Adam Zampa is getting married. World Cup 2019: Key players to watch out for in Australia vs Afghanistan clash

His stint in the IPL has made Adam Zampa realise that the best way to counter Indian batsmen is by bowling a wicket-to-wicket line.

Zampa, who has grabbed 44 wickets in 35 ODI appearances so far feels that his strength is attacking the stumps rather than bowl big loopy leg breaks outside the off-stump, which players like Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav relish hitting.

"From my IPL experience and seeing these guys play, it's not about the variety of wrong 'uns but it's about the best way to bowl to these batsmen. Particularly in ODI cricket, most leg-spinners these days are attacking the stumps and that's my strength," Zampa said on the eve of the match.

"I feel like when I get away from the stumps, guys lilke Virat and the other night (Kedar) Jadhav, I got little bit frustrated and went wide off the stumps, that is when the damage happen. It's about staying away from their strengths," said Zampa, who dismissed Kohli in the first T20 International in Visakhapatnam as well as the first ODI in Hyderabad.

Zampa is happy that he has been to get better of the world's best batsman on a few occasions recently.

"It's nice to get players like that (Virat) out. I thought the best one was the T20 here (in Visakhapatnam) and another match in Brisbane. I thought they were big wickets given the situation of the match and we ended up winning the game (Visakhapatnam).

But then Zampa also knows that getting Kohli alone won't be enough.

"Getting Virat is one thing, he was in at the time and it was big wicket, but then you also have to think about getting (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni out and Rohit (Sharma) out. Virat is big wicket, but there are six or seven big wickets in the Indian team,? Zampa told reporters here on the eve of the team's second ODI here against hosts India.

Kohli is always a prized catch but Adam Zampa does not intend to be too harsh on himself if the Indian captain or some of the other star batsman in the opposition ranks happen to dominate him.

"I don't want to think too far ahead and not be too harsh on myself. Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) are amazing players and somehow I just need to be in the game for as long as possible. That's all I can really do," said Zampa.
