<p>Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan's debut film <em>Maharaj</em> was all set to release on an OTT platform on Friday, June 14. The film's release, however, has been stayed by the Gujarat High Court following a plea by a Hindu group, which claimed that the film can potentially incite communal violence.&nbsp;<br />

Helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra, <em>Maharaj</em> also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Shalini Pandey in key roles and is a period film.</p>

<p><strong>The controversy surrounding Maharaj</strong><br />

According to reports, the “stay order was issued on a petition filed on behalf of devotees of Lord Krishna and followers of Vallabhacharya, which is the Pushtimarg sect.”&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The film, which revolves around the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, could potentially cause a rupture in public order and even incite violence against the followers of the sect.<br />
<br />
The Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 was a legal battle between a reformer and journalist who had made allegations against a prominent religious leader of misconduct. The petition points out that the case was ruled over by the English Judges of the Supreme Court of Bombay.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
It makes “seriously blasphemous comments against Lord Krishna as well as devotional songs and hymns.”</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the complaint also points out that the film has been planned to be released without sufficient promotional materials, including a trailer, so that there is limited access to the story. That could cause serious hurt to the sentiments. On these grounds, Justice Sangeeta Vishen of the Gujarat High Court passed an interim order staying the release of the movie in any manner whatsoever.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The matter has been now scheduled for a hearing on June 18.</p>

The Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 was a legal battle between a reformer and journalist who had made allegations against a prominent religious leader of misconduct. The petition points out that the case was ruled over by the English Judges of the Supreme Court of Bombay. It makes “seriously blasphemous comments against Lord Krishna as well as devotional songs and hymns.” Meanwhile, the complaint also points out that the film has been planned to be released without sufficient promotional materials, including a trailer, so that there is limited access to the story. That could cause serious hurt to the sentiments. On these grounds, Justice Sangeeta Vishen of the Gujarat High Court passed an interim order staying the release of the movie in any manner whatsoever. The matter has been now scheduled for a hearing on June 18. About Maharaj the film Netflix, on which the film is set to release, has not given out much details about the film. "It is a film that shows the resilience of the human spirit and how a common man could wield the courage to help people around him and thus, help society at large. <p>Talking about Aamir's perfectionist side, Jason shared an incident from the set when he kept on asking for another shot until he got the perfect shot.</p>

<p>He said, “It was wonderful to see him so immersed in his character. I don’t think I was in his space. He was just miles away from everyone. And his perfectionist side… I remember this one shot: I was looking through an eyeglass and he kept asking the director for one more retake. Even though the director said, ‘I think we got the shot,’ he kept asking for ‘one more’. Aamir being Aamir."</p>

<p>The actor added that Salman Khan arrived on set at 3 in the afternoon on his motorbike&nbsp;and nobody was doing any work. At 4:30, the producer requested him for just one shot. "I loved it. It looked like a relaxed life.”</p>

<p>It was&nbsp;voting day in B'town. Voting in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election started on&nbsp;49 seats across&nbsp;six states and two union territories (UTs), including Mumbai, at 7 am. Fulfilling their civic duty, several Bollywood celebrities have stepped out to cast their vote, including superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.&nbsp;</p>

The event was a grand one which had team members of the film and eminent celebrities from the entertainment world in attendance. A special screening was held to mark the special occasion. While the event saw the team reminiscing about the iconic film, the film’s lead actor Aamir Khan made an important announcement about <em>Sarfarosh 2</em>.<br />

I immediately boarded the bus and finished shooting. Another student, who was working as an editor there, saw that film. Impressed by my work, he offered me a film. After seeing those two films, director Ketan Mehta cast me in <em>Holi</em> (1984). After watching Holi, Mansoor and Nasir Sahab said, 'Let's make a film with him.' That's where they got the idea of making a film with me because I was a good actor, and that's how <em>Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak</em>&nbsp;happened. So, if it wasn't Maharashtra Bandh that day, maybe I wouldn't have become a star."<br />

<p>Filmmaker Kiran Rao's new film <em>Laapataa Ladies </em>delivers pertinent messages on equality, education, and women empowerment - all wrapped in humour. The film starring newcomers Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava and Ravi Kishan could have gone either way. Considering it touches upon subjects of feminism it could have been preachy, instead, writers Sneha Desai&nbsp;and Divyanidhi take you into the beautiful world of Nirmal Pradesh and narrate the year's most heartwarming story.</p>

<p>The plot seems simple. Dinesh Kumar (Srivastava) is on his way back home after marrying Phool Kumari (Goel). The journey involves multiple modes of transportation and numerous changes- varying from a scooter ride to a bus ride to a final train journey.</p>

<p>When he reaches his home in the dead of the night, his friends and family are eagerly waiting to welcome the new bride. Veiled until then, the new bride's face leaves everyone stunned. Turns out there has been a swap in the train and Deepak has brought along Pushpa (Ranta) instead of Phool, who meanwhile is stranded at another station, clueless as to how to reach her husband.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Deepak tries to look for his bride and find the whereabouts of Pushpa's family, it is Pushpa's mysterious and dubious nature that leaves the local cop (Ravi Kishan) suspicious of her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The story may be set in fictitious locations but the problems are real. The beauty lies in the brilliant screenplay by Desai and Divyanidhi who adapt the story from writer Biplab Goswami and manage to put a smile on the face with little details. As she waits for her husband to come back looking for her, Phool befriends a beggar, a street vendor, and a chai <em>wali </em>at the station. The four form an unusual bond with Phool learning a thing or two on feminism from the elderly lady who gets work at her shop.&nbsp;</p>

She is called naïve for her optimism but eventually makes everyone believe in her belief.&nbsp;</p>

The journey involves multiple modes of transportation and numerous changes- varying from a scooter ride to a bus ride to a final train journey. When he reaches his home in the dead of the night, his friends and family are eagerly waiting to welcome the new bride. Veiled until then, the new bride's face leaves everyone stunned. Turns out there has been a swap in the train and Deepak has brought along Pushpa (Ranta) instead of Phool, who meanwhile is stranded at another station, clueless as to how to reach her husband. While Deepak tries to look for his bride and find the whereabouts of Pushpa's family, it is Pushpa's mysterious and dubious nature that leaves the local cop (Ravi Kishan) suspicious of her. The story may be set in fictitious locations but the problems are real. As she waits for her husband to come back looking for her, Phool befriends a beggar, a street vendor, and a chai wali at the station. <p>"When you watch Bollywood movies, you also see the Indian lifestyle and background. You learn so much about India and Indian people, so that's why Bollywood is getting more and more successful," he added.</p>

<p>The diplomat said <em>Laal Singh Chaddha, </em>which was also shot in Turkiye, made him realise the many similarities between Indian and Turkish culture.</p>

<p>To explain his point, Sunel talked about the opening scene of the movie where the titular hero, played by Khan, travelling in a train is seen offering golgappas to fellow passengers before having it himself.</p>

<p>"This (the scene) is normal for you and me, because it is a tradition. In Turkiye, we also offer food to people who are in proximity before we eat. But when somebody in America watches this movie, they wouldn't understand it.</p>

<p>"They would think because 'He is not a smart boy, that's why he offered the food to other people'. Maybe because I catch so many similarities between our societies is that I feel so interested about the movies here," he added.</p>

<p>Also a bestselling author, Sunel views adaptations as a "risky" business because it comes with a fair share of challenges for the creator who wants to ensure nothing is lost in translation.</p>

<p>"When you write a novel, thousands or tens of thousands people will read it. But if it is adapted into a series or film, then the number increases to millions and even tens of millions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"To be able to reach out to more people, it is important that your novel is adapted to a series or movie. But there are losses or changes (in book to screen translations)" he explained.&nbsp;</p>

<p>That's why the 58-year-old diplomat said he wasn't "100 per cent" satisfied with the Turkish TV series<em> The Great Exile Caucasia</em>, which was inspired by his novel<em> In the Shade of the Weeping Willows</em>&nbsp;(Turkish title<em> Salkim Sogutlerin Golgesinde</em>).</p>

<p>"As an author, if you are not ready to accept all the changes, I would suggest you to not do this. When the filmmaker comes on board, your duty (as an author) ends," he added.</p>

<p>Even then, Sunel said he wants The Lighthouse Family,<em> </em>the recently released English translation of his Turkish novel Sarpincik Feneri<em>,</em> to be adapted into a movie.</p>

<p>"'The Lighthouse Family' could be an adaptation even in India. The book relates to Indian families as well. They would like it, this would make for an emotional movie.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Indian audiences, like Turkish audiences, like books or movies when they make them cry and this is one such book. It can be adapted in any country, in India or Western countries. So, if somebody is interested, why not?" he added.</p>

<p>The Lighthouse Family&nbsp;is a heartrending tale set in the backdrop of the Second World War. <p>It's been almost two years since Aamir Khan's <em>Laal Singh Chaddha </em>was released in the theatres, but the talk around the movie refuses to die down. The movie that was Aamir's dream project badly tanked at the box office, and has been seen as the most disastrous project of his entire career.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a chat with Indian news channel, ABP news, Aamir talked about the movie's failure, and what he had learnt from that time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Adding that he was ''emotionally hurt'' after the movie got a bad response upon its release, Aamir said, “It’s a film close to my heart. Advait, Kareena and the whole cast and crew worked hard and it didn’t do well. Two things happened, after a long time my film didn’t work, so family and friends would come home to ask me, ‘If I’m okay?’ I realised that I’m getting a lot of love after a flop.''</p>
