With five wins from as many matches, Namibia qualified first, while Uganda winning five of their six contested games helped them punch the maiden World Cup ticket. Even though Zimbabwe beat Kenya by a whopping margin of 110 runs in their last league match, Uganda just had to win to go through, which they did convincingly.

Dismissing Rwanda on a mere 65 in 18.5 overs, Uganda chased the target in 8.1 overs. This win marked a historic moment for the African country, which qualified for an ICC event – across any format, for the first time.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s poor run in the Qualifiers continues. After failing to qualify for the 2019 World Cup in England, Zimbabwe didn’t feature in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE because the ICC had suspended their board due to government interference in their cricket administration.&nbsp;

While they made it to the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, beating Pakistan in their opener, Zimbabwe again failed to break into the top two teams in the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers at home. Sri Lanka and the Netherlands booked their ticket to India for the marquee event.&nbsp;

Oman and Nepal have officially qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup after they progressed to the final of the Asian qualifiers on Friday (Nov 3). With both finalists of the Asia qualifiers set to enter the tournament, Friday was the decisive day for Nepal, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Nepal and UAE played in the first semifinal while Oman and Bahrain played in the other match to book a place in the showdown clash on Sunday. Hosts Nepal had a tough prospect in UAE but overcame the obstacle while Oman beat Bahrain in an easy win.

Powered by wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh’s unbeaten 64, Nepal registered an eight-wicket win over UAE in Kathmandu’s Mulpani Cricket Ground. So far 18 teams have booked their place in the 2024 T20 World Cup with two African teams set to enter later this month. Hosts USA and West Indies got direct passage into the T20 World Cup while last tournament’s top eight also got direct entry. <h2>USA to stage T20 World Cup</h2>

“We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. The USA is a strategically important market and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sport market,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

USA and West Indies were selected as co-hosts for the global tournament back in November 2021, when the ICC Board awarded them the hosting rights. The venues were chosen following an extensive evaluation of several options.

Modular stadium solutions will be applied to increase facilities for the upcoming event. An agreement has been reached for the construction of a 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, a purpose-built sports and events park in Nassau County, New York, on awarding of the required permit next month.

<h2>England to enter as defending champions</h2>

This will be the second time West Indies will host the marquee tournament having last seen action of the T20 World Cup in 2010. England were crowned champions for the first time in 2010 when they beat Australia in the final. The win also saw them win their maiden T20 World Cup title under the leadership of Paul Collingwood. Interestingly, England are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup having won the title in 2022 in Australia.

Several other potential venues have been identified for pre-event matches and training. These include George Mason University in Washington, which is the home for Major League Cricket (MLC) team Washington Freedom.

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has backed Virat Kohli’s selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup as they prepare for the marquee event in the USA and West Indies. Bangar, a former India player, sees all the qualities in Virat to succeed in the format, despite him being kept away from the T20 format since the semifinal of the World Cup in 2022. According to Bangar, Virat has all the qualities&nbsp;to succeed and could be a vital weapon for the Men in Blue when they travel to US and Caribbean islands.

"Hundred per cent, he should be there in the T20 team. What he did in the previous T20 World Cup and in those close matches, I don't see the reason why he can't be seen playing T20 cricket and next year's T20 World Cup," Bangar said on the YouTube channel Cricket Basu.

Virat was the highest run scorer in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup but has been dropped from the squad since. Despite scoring 296 runs in the tournament, the selectors are looking forward to the future and have often cited resting Kohli as the reason to keep him away from the format.

"You know that in big situations where emotions run high, one small mistake could cost you dear. You need big players who have gone through those situations. At that point, it doesn't really matter what your strike rate is, or what you have done in the IPL, in big games you require big match players. He (Kohli) showed such spirit in the India-Pakistan game,” Bangar added.

Given Lauderhill in Florida is slated to stage the final two T20Is between India and West Indies in a fortnight, Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Church Street Park in Morrisville and Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York, are yet to get international venue status by ICC - something that is important to international cricket matches. Meanwhile, Morrisville and Dallas are currently hosting the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) in the country.

In consultation with Cricket West Indies and the USA, the ICC will take the final call on the venues in the coming months.

With 15 out of the 20 slots filled, the remaining five will get determined from Qualifiers from the Americas (for one spot), Africa (two) and Asia (two) in the coming months.

Meanwhile, unlike the format in the previous two editions, this tournament will see a new one in place. All 20 teams will get divided into groups of four, with each group containing five teams.&nbsp;
