The meeting was attended by security chiefs of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in which they discussed various issues related to Afghanistan, including the security situation and humanitarian challenges facing the country.

Doval emphasized India's efforts to support Afghanistan, including the delivery of 40,000 metric tons of wheat, 60 tons of medicines, 500,000 Covid-19 vaccines, winter clothing, and 28 tons of disaster relief. He also mentioned the scholarships granted to 2,260 Afghan students, including 300 girls, in the past two years as a testament to India's commitment to education in Afghanistan.

On the issue of terrorism, Doval reaffirmed the importance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2593 (2021), which calls for denying sanctuary to terror outfits, including those designated by UNSCR 1267. &nbsp;The resolution was passed under the Indian presidency of the security council in August 2021. &nbsp;

Worries have mounted that in Taliban controlled Afghanistan, Terror groups, including many anti India groups might find space.

The company said that it has a workforce of more than 1800 employees in the Indian cities of Noida and Bengaluru, where their Global Engineering Centres focus on hardware, software and systems engineering capabilities for both civil and defence sectors, serving global needs. 
 
"Working today with 75 suppliers, generating more than 1900 indirect jobs in India, Thales has expanded locally with joint ventures and other partnerships, such as with Bharat Dynamics Limited to manufacture 60 per cent&nbsp;of the Laser Beam Riding Man-portable air defence system (MANPAD LBRM) system, a top product that Thales will display at the show alongside other defence equipment with local content." In layman's terms, MANPAD are portable, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles that pose a threat to low-flying aircraft and helicopters.

"Thales will showcase its airborne optronics capability: the 2-in-1 targeting &amp; reconnaissance&nbsp;pod TALIOS (Targeting Long-range Identification Optronic System), Under the navigations segment, the TopAxyz inertial navigation system for air, naval and land transport will be featured. In support of the Indian Navy, Thales will showcase Sonoflash, a new generation of sonobuoy that strengthens anti-submarine warfare capabilities", the company said.

For the Indian civil aviation sector, Thales looks to offer its 'AVANT Up', an inflight entertainment solution. On the drones and anti-drone systems front, the firm will be exhibiting the&nbsp;Spyranger drones, counter-unmanned aerial vehicle solutions that detect, classify and neutralise micro- and mini-drones to protect people, secure critical infrastructure, etc.

While in India, Skinnari will hold talks with the Indian ministers of commerce, telecom, and railways while he already spoke to the aviation minister. Skinnari also attended Finland's Smart Infrastructure Seminar in Mumbai, where he highlighted Finland's efforts towards carbon neutrality and its smart city initiatives.

He also emphasized that Finland is not dependent on Russian energy, and the country has invested in renewables and nuclear energy for a long time. Expressing concerns over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the minister said, "Finland has a strong military, a rich history, and trusted partners, and the Minister believes that the country has a bright future ahead."

On his country's NATO membership, he said, "Process is there, the process is pending, Finland is a country with strong resilience, we believe we can find a solution, together with Sweden, and we hope that it very soon."

India to provide 'all possible assistance' to Turkiye after massive earthquake

Hours after the announcement made by the Prime Minister's Office, India has dispatched the first batch of earthquake relief material to Turkiye aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft. Pervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan, was laid to rest on Tuesday (Feb 7) in Karachi. What's left for India is his ambiguous legacy. In an interview with WION, the former envoy to Pakistan from&nbsp;2017 to 2020,&nbsp;Ajay Bisaria, discussed how Musharraf, the former military dictator, had “a mind of a guerrilla," with surprise and deceit as his weapons.

Bisaria, who was also an aide to former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during Musharraf years, termed him a "general who changed his stripes."

He stated how Musharraf, the architect of the Kargil war, was "humiliated" when Nawaz Sharif withdrew Pakistani troops from Kargil following a meeting with then-US president Bill Clinton.

Ambassador Bisaria said combination of factors prompted the military coup in Pakistan, led by Musharraf.&nbsp;

At the time, he had suffered a twin blow: when Sharif named General Ziauddin Butt as the army chief and when he withdrew troops from Kargil.

Musharraf revolted and seized power.

A setback for India at this time was the 1999 swap of passengers from hijacked Indian Airlines plane in Kandahar, Afghanistan, with three notorious terrorists.

But interestingly enough, India decided to give Musharraf another chance, he added.

This time, the trio of Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Jaswant Singh met for lunch and agreed to “read the dictator's mind” by extending an invitation for him to visit India. But Musharraf once more “overplayed his hand about Kashmir” during his meeting.&nbsp;

Once more, the peace initiative was derailed, the ambassador told WION.

Musharraf shifts gear after 9/11

Just a few months after the 9/11 attacks in the US, the Indian Parliament suffered a terror assault and India conducted Operation Parakram, a troop buildup against Pakistan.

Envoy Bisaraia said this prompted Musharraf to promise that Pakistan's territory would not be used against India.

When Vajpayee and Musharraf met in Srinagar in 2003, the envoy stressed that cross-border terrorism decreased and diplomatic ties grew stronger. But the diplomacy took place mostly out of public sight, he added.

Musharraf&nbsp;continued to meet with Manmohan Singh as the prime minister later in 2004. Another important step was the four-point strategy. But with the 2006 Mumbai train attacks, he “lost the plot with India,” the former envoy said. “His early sins could not be forgiven,” he added.

Musharraf&nbsp;and his “beloved homeland”

Ambassador Bisaria noted that both Musharraf's desire to recast himself as a politician and his ambition to become a general who might bring about peace remained unfulfilled.

On Musharraf's orders, Pakistani troops surrounded the Lal Masjid in Islamabad on July 3, 2007. It was a confrontation between Islamist militants and the Pakistani government. It gave rise to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has led countless fatal attacks in Pakistan.

In an interview with WION, the former envoy to Pakistan from 2017 to 2020, Ajay Bisaria, discussed how Musharraf, the former military dictator, had “a mind of a guerrilla," with surprise and deceit as his weapons. Bisaria, who was also an aide to former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during Musharraf years, termed him a "general who changed his stripes." He stated how Musharraf, the architect of the Kargil war, was "humiliated" when Nawaz Sharif withdrew Pakistani troops from Kargil following a meeting with then-US president Bill Clinton. Ambassador Bisaria said combination of factors prompted the military coup in Pakistan, led by Musharraf. At the time, he had suffered a twin blow: when Sharif named General Ziauddin Butt as the army chief and when he withdrew troops from Kargil. Musharraf revolted and seized power. A setback for India at this time was the 1999 swap of passengers from hijacked Indian Airlines plane in Kandahar, Afghanistan, with three notorious terrorists. But interestingly enough, India decided to give Musharraf another chance, he added. This time, the trio of Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Jaswant Singh met for lunch and agreed to “read the dictator's mind” by extending an invitation for him to visit India. But Musharraf once more “overplayed his hand about Kashmir” during his meeting. Once more, the peace initiative was derailed, the ambassador told WION. Musharraf shifts gear after 9/11 Just a few months after the 9/11 attacks in the US, the Indian Parliament suffered a terror assault and India conducted Operation Parakram, a troop buildup against Pakistan. Envoy Bisaraia said this prompted Musharraf to promise that Pakistan's territory would not be used against India. When Vajpayee and Musharraf met in Srinagar in 2003, the envoy stressed that cross-border terrorism decreased and diplomatic ties grew stronger. But the diplomacy took place mostly out of public sight, he added. Musharraf continued to meet with Manmohan Singh as the prime minister later in 2004. Another important step was the four-point strategy. But with the 2006 Mumbai train attacks, he “lost the plot with India,” the former envoy said. “His early sins could not be forgiven,” he added. Musharraf and his “beloved homeland” Ambassador Bisaria noted that both Musharraf's desire to recast himself as a politician and his ambition to become a general who might bring about peace remained unfulfilled. On Musharraf's orders, Pakistani troops surrounded the Lal Masjid in Islamabad on July 3, 2007. It was a confrontation between Islamist militants and the Pakistani government. Natasha Perianayagam, an Indian-American student, was nominated to the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth's list of the "world's brightest" students for the second year in a row based on the results of assessments taken by more than 15,000 students from 76 different countries that were above grade level. 13-year-old Perianayagam attends Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School in New Jersey.

As a Grade 5 student in the spring of 2021, she also took the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY) test.

Her verbal and quantitative test scores were on par with the 90th percentile for advanced Grade 8 performance, driving her to the honours list for the year. She was recognised this year for her outstanding achievement on the SAT, ACT, School and College Ability Test, or other test she took as part of the CTY Talent Search, according to a press release from the university on Monday (February 6)

Perianayagam, whose parents are from Chennai, told PTI&nbsp;that in her free time, she enjoys drawing and reading JRR Tolkien's books.

In order to identify such prodegies&nbsp;from around the world and provide a thorough understanding of their academic ability, CTY uses above-grade-level testing.

A PMO statement earlier said, "It was decided that Search &amp; Rescue Teams of NDRF and Medical Teams along with relief material would be dispatched immediately in coordination with the Government of Republic of Turkiye."&nbsp;

Dr PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, took stock of the situation and discussed immediate relief measures. The meeting was attended by high-level government officials, including the cabinet secretary, and representatives from the Ministries of Home Affairs, NDMA, NDRF, Defence, MEA, Civil Aviation, and Health &amp; Family Welfare.&nbsp;

India will dispatch two teams of NDRF, each consisting of 100 personnel and trained dog squads, to the earthquake-hit area to conduct search and rescue operations. In addition, medical teams were also deployed, equipped with trained doctors, paramedics, and essential medicines, to provide immediate medical assistance to those in need.&nbsp;

New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta is embarking on a bilateral visit to India to deepen ties between the two countries. Ahead of the visit, she referred to India as "a core and influential partner in the Indo-Pacific" region, which encompasses the countries of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.

She pointed,"We have welcomed their participation in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. This framework offers a key vehicle for engaging with India as part of a broader regional agenda." The framework aims to promote economic integration and collaboration among the nations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Mahuta emphasised the "energetic and vibrant relationship" between New Zealand and India, with over 240,000 people of Indian descent residing in New Zealand.&nbsp;

One of the key focus areas during the visit will be visa issues faced by Indian students, an issue that was previously raised by External Affairs Minister Jaishankar during his visit to New Zealand last year.

An official familiar with developments told the news agency PTI on Sunday (February 5) that these apps were blocked for gambling and unauthorised loan service. "The order to block 138 apps that were involved in betting, gambling and money laundering was issued last evening. Separately, an order to block 94 apps engaged in unauthorised loan service has also been issued. These apps were being operated from offshore entities, including Chinese. They were posing a threat to the economic stability of the country," the official said.&nbsp;

The names of these apps have not been revealed yet.&nbsp;

Earlier, the Union home ministry of India&nbsp;recommended the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), and the latter initiated the process as per communication. The decision was taken after confirming that these apps attracted Section-69 of the IT Act as they contained material which was prejudicial to the country's integrity and sovereignty, news agency ANI reported earlier on Sunday.&nbsp;

The action behind the decision was based on multiple complaints of extortion and harassment of common people who had availed loans of small amounts through the mobile apps. These apps were the brainchild of Chinese nationals who hired Indians and made them directors in operations.

The report said that desperate people were lured into taking loans and then the interest was jacked up to 3,000 per cent annually. When debtors were unable to pay the interest, let alone the principal amount, people representing these apps started harassing them. The representatives started sending them (debtors) lewd messages and threatened to release their morphed photos and shaming by sending them to their contacts.&nbsp;

The matter came to light after reports of suicides in some states, particularly Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The state governments of Telangana, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh as well as central intelligence agencies asked the Union home ministry to take action against these apps, the ANI report said citing sources. Based on these inputs, the ministry started analysing 28 Chinese loan lending apps six months back. But, it found out that 94 apps were available on e-stores and others were working through third-party links.&nbsp;

Many apps were not available for download on smartphones. However, sources told ANI the betting apps and games were being downloaded through independent links or websites.

Earlier, India's information and broadcasting ministry issued an advisory which stated that since betting and gambling was illegal in most parts of the country, advertisements of these betting platforms, as well as their surrogates, were also illegal under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, Cable TV Network Regulation Act 1995 and the IT Rules, 2021.

General Pervez Musharraf, the former head of the Pakistani military who is&nbsp;also considered the architect of the cross-border intrusions that sparked the Kargil War of 1999, and who perhaps came the closest to resolving the Kashmir dispute with India, passed away on Sunday (February 5) at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. The bloodless coup in 1999 that toppled the elected civilian government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif brought to power the four-star general&nbsp;who tenaciously clung to power, helping institute the PML-Q party, before being forced to resign in 2008 to avoid impeachment.

<h2 id="main-heading" tabindex="-1">Pervez Musharraf: Born in Old Delhi's Daryaganj</h2>

Musharraf, who was born on August 11, 1943, in Old Delhi's Daryaganj to a career diplomat, advanced through the Pakistan Army's ranks until being appointed by Sharif as army chief in October 1998.

Musharraf's passing brings to mind an&nbsp;aspect of his Indian connection: his birthplace in the Daryaganj neighbourhood of Old Delhi in 1943. His residence, the "Neharwali Haveli," is situated in Daryaganj near Kucha Saadullah Khan, behind the Golcha theatre. Before migrating to Pakistan in the event of partition, he spent the first four years of his childhood there.&nbsp;

He visited his ancestral home in Daryaganj on his first trip to India as president of Pakistan. He also spoke with "friends" and "neighbours" while he was there, reports PTI.

After retiring as the commissioner of Punjab, Musharraf's grandfather Qazi Mohtashimuddin bought the "Neharwali Haveli." After his family relocated to Pakistan following the partition, the property was abandoned and is now mostly in ruins.&nbsp;

<h2>Pervez Musharraf: Architect of the 1999 Kargil War </h2>

Musharraf served as a key strategist in the Kargil War with India. Nawaz Sharif, however, stopped aiding the rebels in the border war in July 1999 as a result of growing international pressure.&nbsp;Following Sharif's action, the Pakistan Army was enraged, and speculation of a potential coup quickly spread.

Who was to blame for the Kargil conflict and Pakistan's withdrawal was a point of contention between Sharif and Musharraf.

With his top commanders, including the chief of the navy staff Admiral Fasih Bokhari, the chief of the air staff Air Chief Marshal PQ Mehdi, and senior lieutenant-general Ali Kuli Khan, Musharraf had a heated exchange.

General Kuli Khan slammed the war as "a disaster bigger than the East-Pakistan tragedy," adding that the plan was "flawed in terms of its conception, tactical planning, and execution" that resulted in "sacrificing so many soldiers." Admiral Bokhari eventually demanded a full-fledged joint-service court martial against General Musharraf.

Pakistan's biggest strategic error was the Kargil intrusion because Islamabad failed to anticipate the consequences on a global scale. In addition to suffering worldwide humiliation and alienation, Kargil cleared the ground for the US to shift more towards India. The US condemned Pakistan for placing the two South Asian adversaries at risk of a nuclear conflict for the first time after viewing India-Pakistan ties independently and objectively.

<h2>The Agra Summit: When Vajpayee and Musharraf 'almost resolved' the Kashmir conflict</h2>

The Agra Summit (July 14-16, 2001) has gone down in history as one of the most significant squandered chances in India-Pakistan relations. In his book "Neither a Hawk Nor a Dove," former Pakistani foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri wrote that the “solution to Kashmir was in the grasp of both governments”.

The "Four-point solution" to Kashmir was put out by then-Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. Then Indian PM&nbsp;Atal Bihari Vajpayee was said to have been in favour of the idea in principle, but the agreement fell through hours before the signing ceremony, as reported by the PTI.

The Musharraf plan’s four points were:

1.&nbsp;Demilitarisation or phased withdrawal of troops

On both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), millions of soldiers were stationed in Kashmir. In order to achieve a lasting peace, Musharraf said that both India and Pakistan would have to reduce the number of soldiers stationed there. It was up to the two parties to decide whether this withdrawal would be gradual and phased.

2. The borders of Kashmir shall remain unchanged. However, Jammu and Kashmir residents would be permitted to cross the Line of Control (LoC) without restriction.

The Shimla Agreement of 1972 established what is essentially a ceasefire line along the Line of Control (LoC). However, it is not recognised as the International Border by either India or Pakistan. In exchange for Pakistan accepting Indian sovereignty over the portion of Jammu and Kashmir on India's side of the Line of Control (LoC), India would have to recognise Pakistan's sovereignty over Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Both sides would then give up their claims to Kashmir's other half, and the ceasefire line would become the International Border. The inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir, however, would be permitted to travel freely to the other side.

3. Self-governance without independence

Musharraf was ready to give up what Pakistan has long argued for in favour of a higher degree of autonomy. Pakistan has long supported what it refers to as "Kashmiri self-determination." Vajpayee would probably not object too much to this agreement condition because Article 370 of the Indian Constitution already grants J&amp;K autonomy. The repeal of Article 370, one of the BJP's fundamental ideological tenets, would have had to be conceded, but it would also have ended Pakistani assistance for militants in Kashmir who were in favour of independence.

4.&nbsp;A joint supervision mechanism in Jammu and Kashmir involving India, Pakistan and Kashmir.

Musharraf would have had a better chance of persuading Pakistanis at home to support a prospective Musharraf-Vajpayee pact if he had chosen to involve local Kashmiri leadership in the supervisory system.

Even though a draft resolution was prepared for signing, Musharraf claimed that the Indian side had broken the agreement years after the summit's failure. At a 2004 event, Musharraf remarked, "I was told that the Indian Cabinet had refused to give its nod."

However, one account claims that Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the separatist leader, was the only one to become a hurdle in the peace agreement. "He (Geelani) described President Musharraf's four-point plan as vague, and he attacked the president's stance on the importance of UNSC resolutions to Kashmir," Khurshid Mahmud&nbsp;Kasuri wrote&nbsp;in his book,&nbsp;Neither a Hawk Nor a Dove.&nbsp;

<h2>Pakistan's State-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir&nbsp;</h2>

Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf admitted in the year 2015 that Pakistan supported and trained groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in 1990s to carry out militancy in Kashmir.

“In the 1990s, the freedom struggle began in Kashmir. At that time, Lashkar-e-Taiba and 11 or 12 other organisations were formed. We supported them and trained them as they were fighting in Kashmir at the cost of their lives,” Musharraf said in an interview to&nbsp;Dunya News&nbsp;in 2015.

Regarding the actions taken against Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi of the LeT, the former army chief while&nbsp;replying to a question&nbsp;claimed that Saeed and Lakhvi benefited from the status of heroes at the time.

“The Kashmiri freedom fighters including Hafiz Saeed and Lakhvi were our heroes at that time. Later on, religious militancy turned into terrorism. Now they (referring to militants in Pakistan) are killing their own people here and this should be controlled and stopped,” he said.

To a question whether Saeed and Lakhvi should also be “controlled and stopped”,&nbsp;Musharraf said, “No comments.”

He said that "religious militancy," which attracted terrorists from all over the world to battle Soviet forces, was established by Pakistan.&nbsp;He added,&nbsp;in 1979 Pakistan was in favour of religious militancy.
