<p>The smart city project under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), would provide employment opportunities to nearly 10 lakh people, creating a huge scope for boosting employment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The industrial areas will be located in Khurpia,&nbsp;Uttrakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in UP, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan.</p>

<p>These industrial smart cities will be aligned with the vision of 'Viksit Bharat', and built on PM Modi's Gati Shakti plan.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Investment potential in smart cities project</strong></h2>

<p>The investment potential of the project, which will be around Rs 1.52 lakh crore, is prepared to foster a vibrant industrial ecosystem by facilitating investments from large anchor industries and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, these industrial nodes will act as catalysts for exports worth USD 2 trillion by 2030.</p>

<p>In a significant development regarding the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought permission from a Kolkata Court on Tuesday to conduct a polygraph test on Anup Dutta, the Kolkata Police Assistant sub-inspector (ASI).&nbsp; The CBI was conducting the polygraph test on Wednesday at the time&nbsp;of filing of this story. While working on the case, CBI has already conducted lie-detector test on seven people, including the primary accused Sanjay Roy, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, and five more people.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The CBI&nbsp;had taken permission from a Kolkata court to conduct the polygraph test on Assistant Sub-Inspector Dutta, who was earlier questioned by the agency in the case, said a report in The Telegraph.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Officials said that though the information revealed in&nbsp;polygraph test may not be used as evidence during trial but CBI may gather corroborative evidence which could be used in court.</p>

<p>Investigators monitor the&nbsp;psychological responses, heart rate, breathing pattern, sweating and blood pressure of suspects and witnesses during&nbsp;polygraph test to assess inaccuracies in their statements and determine if there are discrepancies in their responses.</p>

<p>The CBI is investigating whether Anup Dutta helped the main suspect, Sanjay Roy, in covering up the rape and murder of the 31-year-old female postgraduate trainee doctor. This horrific incident occurred on August 9&nbsp;in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per PTI, Anup Dutta has close ties with the primary accused, Sanjay Roy, who was a police volunteer at a police post near the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This test will aid the CBI in finding whether Anup Dutta helped Roy or not. The ASI, Anup Dutta, is facing allegations that he helped the primary accused, Sanjay Roy, gain access to police headquarters and motorcycle, as he is not entitled to any of these services as a police volunteer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Officials told PTI on Tuesday that Dutta was allegedly helping Roy, and the central agency is trying to find out whether Roy told Dutta about the crime and received any favours from him. The polygraph test will help the CBI to assess the inaccuracies and discrepancies in the statements of suspects.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Befitting to his name Pawan, literally meaning breeze, the wild cat roamed around Kuno and often went out of the designated enclosure. He leaves behind two litters of seven cubs, one each with Cheetahs Asha and Jwala.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Due to his freewheeling nature, Pawan was selected as the first cheetah from his batch to be released into the wild on 11 March 2023.</p>

<p>After being released into the wild, Pawan travelled large distances and covered over 300 km to the borders with Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, successfully crossing the Chambal river, Kuno officials said.</p>

<p>In a significant development in&nbsp;Jammu and Kashmir, the former Jamaat-e-Islami members have started filing their nominations for the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory. Jamaat Islami was banned by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019 for five years and the ban was extended for five more years in 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jamaat-e-Islami has been against the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir for the last three decades. But it seems that after the ban, the Jamaat leaders have decided to fight the upcoming assembly elections as independent candidates in the Valley.</p>

<p>Several former Jamaat leaders and members have started filing nominations in the upcoming elections. Three Jamaat leaders filed the nominations for the first phase of assembly elections to be held on September 18.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I was working with the government and since 2008 I became a part of politics and with regard to geopolitics. We need to see Kashmir from the prism of GeoPolitics and that's how I got interested in it. Jamaat Islami has a very important role and looking at the situation, we as Kashmiris have to think about the future and how to make it bright. Past has not given or yielded anything, and we lost what we even had so we need to work for our future. I was associated with Jamaat Islami from 2002 to 2014,"&nbsp;said&nbsp;Talat Majeed,&nbsp;Pulwama.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report added that the temple trust, in its latest meeting disclosed that ₹1,800 crore ($214.4mn) have been spent on the construction of the temple so far. Additionally ₹670 crore ($79.8mn) will be spent on the construction of the remaining phases of the temple, scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The annual accounts for the financial year 2023-24 were also presented before the board of trustees. The trust will file income tax return in September. The trust said in the past four years, devotees have donated approximately 20kg gold and 13 quintal silver to the temple.</p>

<p>According to trust general secretary Champat Rai, the total projected expenditure between April 1, 2024, and Mar 31, 2025, would be ₹850 crore ($101.24mn).</p>

<p>“The government has decided to list agencies/firms to give advertisement to promote them for making and displaying content/tweet/video/post/reels about schemes and achievements of the UP government on online platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube,” according to the Principal Secretary, information department, Sanjay Prasad.</p>

<p>According to the category, the influencers/account holders/operators on X, Facebook and Instagram will be paid a maximum of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively per month, the policy says.</p>

<p>Severe waterlogging has affected several regions in the state, disrupting the normal life of residents. State Education Minister Praful Pansheriya has ordered&nbsp;primary schools to remain closed on Tuesday.</p>

<p>IMD has warned&nbsp;of "extremely heavy rainfall" for Gujarat on August 27, while heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected on August 28. The weather condition is likely to remain till August 30.</p>

<p>Baroda received maximum rainfall in the state of 280 mm between 8:30 am on August 26 and 5:30 am on August 27. While 120 mm of rain was recorded in Ahmedabad and 190 mm in Rajkot.</p>

<p>The state has been witnessing a flood-like situation since Monday after which National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams carried out rescue and relief operations.</p>

<p>"The water level increased in the morning, causing water to enter the Hanuman Bhagda and Valsad areas, disrupting road connectivity. We rescued a pregnant woman," NDRF inspector Ramesh Kumar told ANI.</p>

<p>The state police say, one of the individuals who called for the 'Nabanno Abhijan' protest has met with a leader of a political party at a luxury hotel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police also allege that there is a conspiracy afoot to create widespread chaos and anarchy, with the intent of forcing the police to use excessive force.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, over 6,000 policemen will be deployed to maintain law and order and 19 sensitive points have been identified for barricading, reported&nbsp;NDTV, quoting a top official.</p>

<p>Around 26 Deputy Commissioners of Police will be posted at various points.</p>

<p>Barricading will commence at 8 AM, with significant force deployment at locations such as Hastings, Furlong Gate, Strand Road, and Kolkata's twin city, Howrah.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Trinamool Congress has criticised the BJP over its call for a "Nabanna Abhijan."</p>

<p>While the BJP has claimed that under pressure, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has turned to her last line of defense - the police.</p>

<p>The police say they have made special arrangements for students who will be appearing for the UGCNET exams to get to their examination centres.</p>

When the program finished at 12, I couldn't find the girls, I asked everyone I could and searched all over for them but couldn't find them,"&nbsp;the man said.</p>

<p>He said that he found out about the bodies&nbsp;when someone had gone to the farm on Tuesday morning and informed him. The father claimed that he thought that someone had murdered the girls and then hanged them afterwards.</p>

<p>"I think that someone has killed them and then hanged them. But I don't have any enmity with anyone else," he further told the news agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the occasion of Janmashtami, many individuals follow the ritual&nbsp;of fasting.&nbsp;Many people experienced vomiting, dizziness, and shivering after eating pooris and pakoras made from buckwheat flour,&nbsp;one of the foods that are consumed during fast.</p>

<p>“We had fritters made from buckwheat flour last night. After that, I started vomiting and felt a burning sensation in my stomach,” said Priyanka, a teenager admitted to the government hospital, according to the PTI video.</p>

<p>Mahesh, another resident, said in the PTI video, “My wife has become very weak, sje was almost unconscious.”</p>

<p>Dr. Bhudev Prasad, head of the health department's rapid response team, said similar instances were reported in several districts.</p>

<p>“Teams from the Health Department, Farah Community Health Centre (CHC), and District Hospital responded swiftly. Initially, patients were treated at the CHC, but as numbers increased, they were moved to the District Hospital, the 100-bed Joint Hospital in Vrindavan, and SN Medical College in Agra,” Dr. Prasad said, as quoted by PTI.</p>

<p>Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, asserted that 43 patients were admitted to the SN Medical College Hospital in Agra, 29 to the District Hospital in Mathura, 15 to the 100-bed Combined Hospital, 15 to Baba Jaigurudev Charitable Hospital, 10 to Chauhan Hospital, and others to the CHC in Farah.</p>

<p>“Patients showing improvement today will be discharged,” Dr. Prasad stated.</p>

<p>The affected people are from Parkham, Baroda, Mirzapur, Makhdoom, and Khairat villages. The flour was purchased by Jhagdu and Rajkumar, who supplied it from a grocery merchant in Farah.</p>

<p>In a new revelation in the horrific Kolkata murder-rape case, the bike used by the main accused Sanjay Roy, was registered in the name of Kolkata's Commissioner of Police, Indian news media, India Today reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, following the report, Kolkata Police clarified and said that all official vehicles are registered in the name of the Police Commissioner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They further said that some individuals on social media are attempting to "create confusion" around this.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"All government vehicles belonging to Kolkata Police are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police before being assigned to various units," the police stated on X.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, this was the same bike that Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with Kolkata police, had used to visit the red light areas in north and south Kolkata on the day of the incident. Before reaching the hospital and committing the horrible crime, Roy rode the bike for around 15 kilometres in a drunken state.</p>

<p>Moreover, CBI sources said that Roy's access to Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer made him feel "invincible". The investigation agency is looking into a larger aspect in connection with the case.&nbsp;</p>

Kolkata rape-murder case: TMC's Abhishek Banerjee demands anti-rape law

<p>The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, which was inaugurated on December 4, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suddenly collapsed raising concerns over its making.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police have registered an FIR against the contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been charged with fraud, collusion and endangering public safety.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What led to the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue?</strong></h2>

<p>The FIR was registered after the Public Works Department (PWD) complained about the poor quality of the statue and said that the nuts and bolts used in its construction were rusted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tourists and local citizens had also raised concerns earlier regarding the deteriorating condition of the statue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Even after these warnings as well as an alert given by the PWD Malvan division's assistant engineer on August 20, the officials did not take any preventive action.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The PWD said that the rusting bolts and nuts have been posing a risk to the stability of the statue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The steel used in the making of the statue had started rusting. The PWD had already written to Navy officials informing them about the statue catching rust and requested them to take appropriate steps," said Sindhudurg guardian minister Ravindra Chavan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On September 8, the work on the statue was started by the Indian Navy, which does not have any expertise in statue construction. The unveiling of the statue took place on the Navy Day, 4 Dec, at Rajkot Fort.</p>

<p>The Indian Navy said that the cause of the incident will be investigated in a statement on Monday (August 26).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that strong winds likely led to the collapse of the statue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The incident that happened is unfortunate. This statue was erected by the Navy. They had also designed it. But due to strong winds of around 45 km/h, it fell and got damaged," he said.</p>

The FIR was registered after the Public Works Department (PWD) complained about the poor quality of the statue and said that the nuts and bolts used in its construction were rusted. Tourists and local citizens had also raised concerns earlier regarding the deteriorating condition of the statue. The PWD said that the rusting bolts and nuts have been posing a risk to the stability of the statue. "The steel used in the making of the statue had started rusting. The PWD had already written to Navy officials informing them about the statue catching rust and requested them to take appropriate steps," said Sindhudurg guardian minister Ravindra Chavan. On September 8, the work on the statue was started by the Indian Navy, which does not have any expertise in statue construction. The unveiling of the statue took place on the Navy Day, 4 Dec, at Rajkot Fort. The Indian Navy said that the cause of the incident will be investigated in a statement on Monday (August 26). Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that strong winds likely led to the collapse of the statue. “The incident that happened is unfortunate. This statue was erected by the Navy. <p>Dr RV Kumar, the intern wrote a letter to the SVIMS director cum vice-chancellor, saying she was on duty in the Emergency Medicine Department on Saturday.</p>

<p>"I was unexpectedly attacked by a patient, Bangaru Raju, who approached me from behind, pulled my hair and began forcibly banging my head against the steel rod of a cot," she wrote, adding that no security personnel were present at the site to help her.</p>

<p>The intern doctor emphasised the need for improved workplace safety in light of the recent attack and said that the situation could have turned deadly if the patient had been armed. She demanded immediate action to enhance security measures and protect hospital staff.</p>
